I went to the store and chose four possible tiles to take home with me. I chose the tile and two days later, the measurer came. The tile arrived within two weeks and was installed days later. One day was for the tile to be cut and placed, and the next morning, a guy came to do the grout.

Not good would not use them they are over priced.
Description of Work: I found that to be way over priced and did not have really anything I was looking for at all. When I approached the counter and told them what I was looking for a woman stated we have lots of that item and they did not have anything that I wanted at all really and then quote a price that was way to high for my small space.

Thank you for the feedback. We offer a wide range of tile to cover most price points. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to cover every price point within every type of tile so once in a while we will not have the product a customer is looking to purchase. Usually we receive praise for our vast selection. I am sorry that we couldn't find what you were looking for on this occassion.

For the most part, installation went well. However, the negative is that they did not finish off the carpet where it meets the tile. When we spoke to them about that, they indicated that to finish it, it would be an additional $125 for another service call. We were under the impression that the original quote of $7000 would have included finishing the job. Upon futher followup to question the credit card charge, they have not been repsponsive in returing our call. UPDATE: We have received a refund for the additional money and they have followed up with a phone call.

The customer was absolutely right to conclude that re-tacking the carpet should have been part of the original bid to install the tile that we should have priced into the job. I, as the owner, appreciate the opportunity to rectify the situation. Unless something is unforeseen we don't add charges on to a job after it has begun.

We have used this store 3x now with excellent experiences each time. In 2004 we purchased carpeting for a bedroom. More recently, in fall 2010 we purchased slate floor tiles and spring 2011 we are in the process of purchasing tile for a bathroom. On these recent occasions we have worked with Fred Alsen, whom I highly recommend. I went to another tile store with a problem to solve (needed to do more tiling, but old tile was discontinued). The other store clerk was useless at best--he had shockingly BAD ideas, actually and was unpleasant. Fred was a night-and-day different experience. Literally within moments of hearing the problem, he came up with an artful solution that was much better than I could ever have conceived on my own. He's a good designer, he communicates well and is easy to work with. I wouldn't shop anywhere else for tile & carpet at this point.

Easy, easy, easy. A real joy to do business with.
Description of Work: I needed a rugged commercial carpet for my work office, (I am a plumbing contractor) and Joel and his team were very easy to work with . I got samples at my office immediately and the job was done a couple of days later. It could not have been easier and I will defiantly use them again for my other offices.

We started out with Bruce in May. We thought a round area rug for the foyer that matched the stair runner was included as discussed with Bruce, including the trim we selected with him in the store. He also steered us toward a different color for the basement as he thought the one we liked would be too light. The install took place in late June. There was no area rug and the basement carpet was ugly. We were invited back to the store and met with Matt who said the basement carpet could be replaced at no cost per the warranty. We also discussed the foyer rug, which he said would be offered at a discount. The basement rug was replaced. We had to measure the foyer and send in a diagram. Then we heard nothing for months. We were next bounced to Meghan, who offered us a "discounted" price on the foyer rug of $800 and we would have to pick it up at the store which is an hour without traffic! At this point, I asked to speak with the owner. Instead, she came down a bit on the price. At that point, it was December and we were looking at Christmas expenses and dealing with ongoing family issues during this entire time, so we decided to pass. We received some money for Christmas and I reached out to Meghan several times in Jan via email and voice mail and my messages were never returned, nor was my additional request to speak to the owner met. I also advised them I was concerned re the stair runner as it didn't seem to be wearing well, despite the fact only 3 people live in our house. So, now we have a stair runner that at 6 mos old looked more like it was 5 years old, and a pattern we can't match anywhere else and absolute lack of professionalism. We feel like we received a bait and switch from these people.

We take all complaints seriously and once we received this complaint I (the owner) immediately contacted the customer to reassure her that the misunderstanding regarding the rug was an honest mistake. It looks like we are going to be able to resolve this to the customer's satisfaction at this point. When the customer was at the store she certainly asked about getting a rug that matched the stair runner. This, however, was not communicated to our employee who measures the jobs. The customer wasn't quoted or sold the rug. Once this was brought to our attention by the customer we quoted the rug at what is our cost with no profit by the store. At this point, we are also offering to deliver the rug for free and to provide the pad at no charge. The last thing we want is an unhappy customer. In addition, we have emphasized how important it is for any carpet to be vacuumed regularly to maintain its appearance. Stairs are the most difficult carpeted area to maintain because it is difficult to vacuum in that area. With respect to the carpet the customer didn't like in the basement, we replaced that at no charge to the customer with a different selection through our Beautiful Guarantee. Uniquely, we offer on about half of the carpets we carry this incredible warranty that allows for replacement at virtually no cost to the customer if for any reason the customer doesn't like the look of the carpet. We pride ourselves on communicating promptly with our customers before and after the sale. The customer's concerns about lack of responsiveness have been addressed with all the individuals involved and violated one of our core principles. It is something that we watch very closely and I am grateful the customer brought this to our attention so we have the opportunity to address it and rectify the issue.

The work done by them was very good. The quality of the product I got was very good. The installation was good. I went in there with my paint samples that I was painting my hall with. I also had some people there who helped me pick the right color for what was going on. So, I really appreciated that and I would use their services in the future too.

The salesman was knowledgeable, and gave good advice regarding our specific requirements (stairs, and carpet in rooms with pets). Came to our home to better understand the job. Friendly, professional. Their prices were in the ballpark compared to two other quotes. Installation team did a great job. Two years later not a single complaint with the carpet itself, or the work done putting it down.

After favorable reviews on AL, I contacted them for an estimate on replacing the padding in our basement. No new carpet, just new padding. I called them and spoke with Bruce, we went over all the details. Scope of the job, square footage (approx 600), what I wanted, estimated costs, how they determined those costs, etc. We then scheduled time for an estimator to do a detailed measurement, so that the estimate could be finalized. The gentleman arrived on time, was polite and thorough. The written estimate arrives the following day via email, and it is almost double our initial conversation's estimate, with the same square footage. When I call the salesman, he explains that he misunderstood the scope of the job. After quoting 600 sqft of padding-only on an hourly-labor basis, the written estimate was based on square footage, and included several additional per-sq-ft charges for "take-up" and "haul away" and "furniture removal" - nothing that had been mentioned before. There was no way to misunderstand the scope. This was a classic bait and switch. I asked him to honor the original bid or meet me halfway. He said he had no say over the price, as his sub-contractors determine everything. You have no say over the work you give to your subs? Another red flag. The kicker was that a manager called me the following day to apologize, and ask if there was anything he could do. I told him to honor the original estimate, or meet me halfway. He said he couldn't, but continued to stress his sincere apology for the mix-up ... and he hoped this wouldn't affect my opinion of them / report on AL. If you have to say it out loud, you know it's bad. Avoid this company, and their runaround. I found a more reputable firm on AL (see my other reviews), and was very happy with them.

The experience, beyond the initial sale, was frustrating. We were told the remnant would take a week to prepare (including the pad and binding the remnant to our dimensions). When more than a week passed, I called the store only to be told that he couldn't find the rug. Two days later they find the rug and set up delivery. When the delivery arrives I watch the men unroll the pad. It is DUCT TAPED TOGETHER. Horrendous and unacceptable. Further, one of the edges they duct taped doesn't fit flat and is buckling. When I point this out the delivery folks (who, by the way didn't remove their shoes and are stepping all over the new rug) suggest flipping the pad over. Um, no. There is a right and wrong side to the pad. Their next solution is to remove the offending part of the pad, thus removing a piece approximately 7.5 ft x 1 ft. Note that the store charged me for every square inch of that pad. They then unroll the carpet and obviously there is a huge slope where the missing pad is. Only when I tell them that it is totally unacceptable do they call the store, leave, and return with a new pad cut to the proper size with nary a piece of duct tape.
Description of Work: We were looking to carpet a nursery but have beautiful hardwood floors and were afraid of doing something wall to wall. We were thinking of finding a carpet and cutting it to leave a border around the edge of the room. The salesman helpfully showed us to some remnants that would fit our dimensions and, ostensibly, save us money. I believe we did, in fact, save money.

We went to their showroom in February and got bounced around to a couple of different sales people. We worked with Bob, but he was not very enthusiastic. We ended up giving them a down payment that same day, but then had buyer's remorse when we got home and had a chance to study the quote. Joel, the owner, was very nice and gave us our money back after we realized that they were WAY over priced. We ended up using Scharm Flooring in DesPlaines and got the exact same job done for 1/2 the price with excellent quality.

David showed me the different tiles that were in stock because we needed them right away. He suggested white subway tile which look perfect and fit the character of our house. For the floor we found some beautiful marble tile that were overstocks. This is one time the small size of our bathroom was a good thing since there were a limited number of the tiles available. David was always professional and enthusiastic. I had to go back and get additional tiles due to a change in the way we tiled the shower area, and David had everything ready when I arrived. They have a nice selection of tile and offer helpful advice.

Buying quality carpeting takes hard work by both you and your retailer. There are thousands of good carpets out there, so you have to discipline yourself first by i) not falling in love with a carpet that is too plush or too soft, and ii) persistently asking your retailer to show you every single carpet type within your chosen style. We wanted a berber style, but at first we only "visualized" the mid-sized loop types. Our main salesman at Home Carpet One patiently showed us many sample boards, and finally hit on the idea that we might like a smaller-sized loop. Eureka! We quickly found a tight, small-loop, level, two-tone-yarn carpet that comes from an excellent mill, made with long-wearing fibers, and in a great set of colors. The lesson for us is that a talented salesman at a great retailer with a huge sample set can help you focus your own thinking. Once we settled on our carpet and color, the carpet estimator came over and was very careful, so we didn't over-purchase yardage. Still, we needed a lot of carpet, so we were wisely advised to wait for an upcoming new run of our chosen color from the mill so that all the carpeting would be from the same dye lot. That took a couple of weeks. They said they would have a nearly double-sized installation team on the chosen day. This turned out to be eight guys at one point. True, the house was empty, but we were very pleased that they completed the install of 1400 square feet, including 45 steps, in one day. The team has some real specialists for things like fitting around corners, door moldings, French door closet cleats, and the steps. They were very careful to avoid damaging walls, and cleaned up really well at the end of the work. So far (eight months in), the carpet is wearing like iron, the installation looks perfect, and we've gotten great comments on it from our friends and relatives. Not cheap, but worth every penny!
Description of Work: New carpet and pad purchased and installed for all carpeted areas of the house about eight months ago, including 45 steps, of which 6 or 7 are wedge-shaped. Old carpet and pad had been taken out weeks earlier by another firm so we could do major electrical and painting. The new carpet is all one style and color. On their recommendation, the padding for the steps is a firm felted pad, while the padding for the floors is a slightly softer natural rubber sheet.

The experience was great. They walked me through the whole process from picking out the flooring to installation. Matthew arranged for the installation/repair team to contact me to arrange a date for the repair. The repair is an hourly charge. He was very clear on the cost of the repair for the first hour and each additional hour. The installation team called and was able to come the next day to do the repair. I was given an hour window. Went to store to get ideas and since they had a sale we bought carpet on the spot. Worked with Bruce who knows his stuff, but wasn't as fun to work with as Dave who we had known previously but wasn't available when we asked for him. Carpet looks great, but had some headaches with installation. Guys did a good job, but we had a difficult transition issue we tried to tell them about ahead of time and we shouldn't have wasted our breath because they couldn't do what they said they could. Bottom line: salesman tells you what you want to hear and doesn't talk to installers to know if it will work and it doesn't. Probably shouldn't have expected them to adapt to strange situation, but live and learn.

The individual coming to give the quote had to reschedule and on the day he did show up, he was a bit late. He quickly measured, however, and told us a quote would come shortly. Four days later the quote came via email but, with the wrong product quoted. After some back-and-forth, the correct quote was sent. While the price seemed reasonable, compared to other flooring companies who also sell the product, we decided it was too expensive and would look into other options.

THIS CUSTOMER PURCHASED WOOD FROM US AND DIDN'T NEED IT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. ACCIDENTALLY WE SOLD THE WOOD THAT SHE HAD PURCHASED AND DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TO FILL HER ORDER. IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE HER FOR OUR ERROR, WE UPGRADED HER TO A BETTER QUALITY. THE TIME SHE WAS TOLD SHE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT WAS FOUR WEEKS, NOT TWO OR THREE MONTHS. WE WERE SURPRISED AT THE MEMBER'S REVIEW GIVEN THE FACT THAT SHE CAME BACK TO THE STORE TWO WEEKS LATER TO PURCHASE CARPETING FROM HOME CARPET ONE.
