Not well. I had paid for the special online duct cleaning which included 12 vents, 1 return, and 1 main. As it turned out the service provider, Chad, counted 9 vents, 1 return and 3 mains. Immediately after that Chad started to write up a Work Order COntract sheet showing everything they do for cleaning venting systems. I was under the impression that my 9 vents would make things easy for him. I didn't know what the mains were so he explained it to me. I had this done once before and they did the entire job, taking all the vents off the walls and cleaning them with a big vacuum. This is not what happened. First, I was told that the time would be 10:00 am to 11:00 am. I had made plans for the afternoon, which I eventually had to cancel. Chad did not get to my house before 11:00 am. Both he and the owner called me to tell me that he was running late and the owner apologized. The actual time Chad was at my house was 3 hours not 1 hour, and they were not all for working. I expected a complete job ($295) value for $69, but that is not what I got. After counting the vents, Chad immediately prepared a work order contract for me for $914.97 and marked where I was to sign. Every time I turned around there was another problem and Chad had to call his boss. For example, the vent covers had been painted and were too deep in the carpet to get off. This I realized later was not true. When I had this done before by another company all the vents were removed and the floor was carpeted then too. Plus you could see all of the screws that needed to be removed. There were only 5 vents that were next to the carpet and four more vent covers that would have been easy to remove. But none of the vent covers were removced. The return was also next to carpet and Chad removed and cleaned the inside. After Chad spoke to his boss they decided they would use the vacuum to clean the vents and mains from the end of the furnace. I felt this was wrong because none of the vents were even opened and whether you can clean the vents from the furnace I do not know. Chad used a tool on the outside of the vent covers to remove any dust and then used a vacuum on the furnace. Whether that worked or not, I do not know. I know that I had to pay an additional $170 to have the two mains cleaned this way. I was not happy. I let the owner know. Supposedly they gave me an additional treatment of all interior air passages w/ Sanitizer to control germs/bacteria and dust mite feces. I did not see this done and all Chad told me when I questioned him is that he did it. Again I did not see it done and hoad doubts whether it was done or not, since the behavior of being late on hour and staying for three hours and the failure to open vents were not congruent with what the advertising said. I ended up paying $200 to Chad and $69 to Angie's List all to get a small house with 9 vents and 3 mains cleaned. I felt this was false advertising as it left me with the impression that the house vents, mains, and return would be cleaned for the advertised amount and it was not. I don't know if the work was done properly and I resent having to pay an additional $200 to get the work done. I couldn't help but wonder if this bait and switch method is the way of all of the Angie's lists contractors behave or just this one company.
Description of Work: The return was opened and cleaned. No other vents were cleaned even though 4 of them were near carpeting. All nine vents could have been opened and cleaned but they were not. The service person, Chad, insisted they couldn't be opened because they were too deep in the carpet. Not true. The system was cleaned by going through the furnace and sucking whatever came out of the mains into the vacuum. Supposedly a cleaner was put into the system, but I never saw it done. I paid an additional $200 for this poor service.
