Heatmasters has been a family owned business since 1950 providing state of the art service to our customers. We have been able to maintain our high level of customer service by always investing in our customer oriented employees. We have two divisions to serve the needs and desires of our customer base. Our residential division serves the heating and cooling needs of homeowners in the Chicagoland area. We pride ourselves in taking the same level of care for the smallest to the largest of projects. Our Mechanical Contracting Division serves the mechanical needs of our commercial, industrial and institutional clients. Our professional staff strives to meet our clients' objectives by providing timely, cost effective solutions. In our 60 years of servicing Chicago and the surrounding suburbs many things have changed, but there is one thing that remains constant. We have grown and flourished by remaining consistent to our core principle of placing our customers’ needs first.

We were happy with them at time of installation, but since then we've had a few problems with our HVAC equipment, which never seem to fall under warranty, despite their hard-sell twice-yearly $120-for-20-minutes maintenance visits. We get the impression they know and care less about HVAC than they do about long-term service contracts. After succumbing to their you'll void your warranty threats for a few years, never being able to get help when we need it, we're going to look at other companies to service our system. We're disappointed, after a good first impression, and I suspect a lot of the good reviews here are based on their initial installation, which was good.
Description of Work: Installed new furnace, AC, humidifier, and hot water heater in a 2-flat, plus spring and fall checkups for three and a half years, and other service calls.

THE JOB WAS COMPLETED THE DAY I CALLED, AND COST CONSIDERABLY LESS THAN FIRST QUOTED!
Description of Work: MY BOILER WAS LEAKING WATER. HEATMASTERS FOUND A BAD RELIEF VALVE AND THE WATER AT 28 PSI. THEY DRAINED THE TANK, REPLACED THE RELIEF VALVE, CHECKED FOR LEAKS, ADJUSTED THE WATER FEEDER, AND FILLED TO A PROPER 12 PSI. MY BOILER IS OVER 30 YEARS OLD, SO I WAS HAPPY IT COULD BE REPAIRED.

A SALES REP CAME QUITE QUICKLY, WAS ON TIME AND VERY FRIENDLY, AND WE DISCUSSED WHAT I NEEDED. BECAUSE I HAVE A BOILER AND NOT A FURNACE, I NEEDED TO ALSO REPLACE THE AIR HANDLER UNIT AS MY OLD ONE WAS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW EQUIPMENT. BECAUSE HEATING AND AC WAS MY FATHER'S BUSINESS, THERE HAD BEEN SOME CREATIVE INSTALLATION OF MY OTHER UNITS (MY DAD DIED IN 2001 AT THE AGE OF 96). HEATMASTERS SPENT EXTRA TIME ADJUSTING TO WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY DONE AND WORKING WITH IT. THEY WERE NEAT, CLEAN, EFFICIENT, PATIENT, AND THOROUGH.
Description of Work: A SERVICE MAN SPENT A VERY LONG TIME TRYING TO GET THE CENTRAL AC, MY FATHER INSTALLED A LONG TIME AGO, TO WORK. HE FINALLY DECIDED IT WAS THE BEARINGS IN THE FAN MOTOR, AND HE WASN'T SURE REPLACEMENT PARTS WOULD STILL BE AVAILABLE. I TOLD HIM THE UNIT WAS NO LONGER ADEQUATE AND WANTED A NEW ONE. HE SAID HE WOULD SEND ANOTHER PERSON OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE, BUT WOULD CHECK ON PARTS IF I WANTED HIM TO.

WE'VE USED HEATMASTERS BEFORE. OVERALL, I WAS THRILLED WITH THE SERVICE AND THE PROFESSIONALISM OF JAMIE, WHO MADE THE CALL. IT DID TAKE 2 WEEKS TO GET AN APPOINTMENT, THOUGH WE WEREN'T IN AN EMERGENCY. THEY CALLED TO SAY THEY WERE ENROUTE TO OUR HOME. I WISHED THEY WERE STILL OFFERING THEIR 10% ANGIE'S LIST DISCOUNT. THEY SEEMED TO THINK IT WAS MORE ANGIE'S LIST IDEA THAN THEIRS AND HEATMASTERS DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY WERE STILL OFFERING IT. DIDN'T SEEM TO KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT. AL: PLEASE ASK HEATMASTERS TO OFFER THE DISCOUNT AGAIN! THANKS.
Description of Work: CHECKED REASON FOR LOW OUTPUT OF COOL AIR FROM OUR SYSTEM AND OFFERED ADVICE ON HOW TO BETTER BALANCE COOL AIR THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE (COOL IN BASEMENT, HOT IN BEDROOM). THEY TESTED THE FREON LEVELS AND CLEANED THE UNIT, CHECKED OUT OUR FURNACE FILTER, AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS. THEY OFFERED US A 3-YEAR CONTRACT, BUT IT SEEMED CHEAPER TO HAVE THEM COME OUT AS NEEDED.

WE CALLED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE AC UNITS ON THE ROOF INSPECTED FOR FAULTY WIRING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS MEANT TO ARRIVE BETWEEN 1 AND 4 ON A FRIDAY. HE DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 5 PM. BY THEN, IT WAS TOO LATE TO DO THE WORK. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE CALL WAS BILLED AS AN EMERGENCY CALL, WHICH WE DID NOT SPECIFY ON THE PHONE. THE TECHNICIAN WAS FLIPPANT AND SEEMED TO UNDERSTAND LESS ABOUT THE JOB AT HAND THAN WE DID. WE RELUCTANTLY PAID THE $70 FOR THE CALL, BUT NO WORK WAS DONE. WE CALLED AGAIN ON MONDAY TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE WITH A SUPERVISOR. THE SUPERVISOR WAS WILLING TO DEDUCT THE $70 FROM THE ACTUAL BILL FOR THE ACTUAL WORK, BUT THEIR ESTIMATE ENDED UP BEING MUCH HIGHER THAN AN ELECTRICIAN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A SIMPLE CHECKUP AND CLEANING OF YOUR HEATING UNIT, THIS COMPANY SEEMS FINE, BUT MORE EXTENSIVE WORK SEEMS OUT OF THEIR RANGE. THIS IS TOO BAD, BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE THE FIRST CALL YOU MIGHT MAKE FOR HVAC. NOW, IT SEEMS YOU NEED TO DO A FURTHER DIAGNOSIS ON YOUR OWN.
Description of Work: HEATMASTERS HAS DONE ANNUAL SERVICE ON OUR HEATING UNITS IN A SIX FLAT CONDO BUILDING. THE FIRST SEVERAL EXPERIENCES WITH HEATMASTERS WERE VERY GOOD. WE HAD PERSONABLE AND PUNCTUAL TECHNICIANS WHO DID A FINE JOB. WE HOPE THAT OUR MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE WAS AN ABERRATION. PERHAPS THIS WAS THE FAULT OF A CARELESS TECHNICIAN.

I CALLED HEATMASTERS TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION. I HAD TO CALL AGAIN TO FOLLOW UP. THEY DID AGREE TO REFUND MY MONEY.
Description of Work: MY FURNACE WAS NOT WORKING. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM INCORRECTLY, WHICH INCLUDED ORDERING A $180.00 PART THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT ON FOR A NUMBER OF DAYS. THEY ALSO REQUESTED IMMEDIATE PAYMENT. ANOTHER COMPANY CAME OUT AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND FIXED THE FURNACE THAT EVENING.

I WILL SAY THE WORKMAN WAS PROFESSIONAL AND POLITE ALBEIT INCORRECT, I COULD HAVE SPENT $$$ ON SOMETHING I DIDN'T NEED.

WHEN I HAD ANOTHER FIRM LOOK AT THE FURNACE AND HUMIDIFIER, HE TOLD ME THE HUMIDIFIER WAS WORKING FINE BUT JUST NEEDED A NEW FILTER. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WENT WITH THE NEW FIRM. ANOTHER THING, A SALES PERSON CALLED ME MANY TIMES AND LEFT VAGUE MESSAGES ON MY PHONE (''THIS IS HEATMASTERS CALLING ABOUT YOUR FURNACE''). WHEN I GOT IN CONTACT W/THEM, IT WAS SIMPLY TO INDUCE PURCHASE OF THEIR MAINTENANCE PLAN; A MAJOR TURN OFF.

MY ORIGINAL PROVIDER CAME OUT, AND THEY WEREN'T SURPRISED AT WHAT HAPPENED. THEY INSPECTED MY SYSTEM, AND WITHOUT BEING TOLD ABOUT MY OTHER EXPERIENCE, FOUND NO GAS LEAK, OR ANY OTHER REASON THAT I NEED TO MAKE A BIG INVESTMENT. WE LOVED OUR SALESPERSON AND WE'RE GOING TO GO WITH THE COMPANY, EVEN THOUGH THE QUOTE WAS SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN OTHERS. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TWICE DURING THE AFTERNOON TO CONFIRM THAT A TECHNICIAN WAS SCHEDULED FOR A SERVICE CALL AND WAS ASSURED THAT I WAS SCHEDULED AND THAT SHOULD THERE BE ANY CHANGES I WOULD RECEIVE A PHONE CALL. AS OF 6:00 PM THAT DAY NO ONE CALLED OR REPORTED FOR THE SERVICE CALL. I LEFT A MESSAGE ON THE ANSWERING SERVICE, MY CONCERN/INQUIRY WAS NOT ANSWERED WITH A RETURN TELEPHONE CALL THE NEXT DAY, AS THE RECORDED MESSAGE INDICATED.

I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY AIR CONDITIONING UNIT SINCE I MOVED INTO MY CONDOMINIUM. I CALLED HEATMASTERS TO HAVE THEM INSPECT IT. THE 1ST TIME THEY WERE OUT (LAST SUMMER), THE TECH SAID I HAD A LEAK IN THE EVAPORATOR COILS AND THAT THEY NEEDED REPLACEMENT. HE DID NOT KNOW IF THE PART WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT SAID HE WOULD PASS THE INFO ALONG TO HIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER 3 OR 4 FOLLOW UP CALLS WITH NO ANSWER EITHER WAY, I LET THE MATTER DROP SINCE THE WEATHER WAS BECOMING COOL. I FOLLOWED UP ON THIS IN APRIL. I HAD ANOTHER TECH COME OUT AND ESSENTIALLY TELL ME THE SAME THING. I THEN SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE EVAPORATOR REPLACED. I TOOK THE DAY OFF WORK AND WAITED. THE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WAS AT 11:30A, I RECEIVED A CALL AT 11:45A INFORMING ME THEY COULD NOT REFILL MY FREON (WHICH WAS OFFERED A SHORT TERM SOLUTION) OR REPLACE MY EVAPORATOR. THUS I WASTED AN ENTIRE DAY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SIMPLE MATTER FOR THEM TO TELL ME THIS OVER THE PHONE. I WASTED AN ENTIRE DAY AND
Description of Work: AN ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE WHY MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT PERFORMING PROPERLY (IE. FAN SPINS BUT NO COOL AIR). I CONTACTED HEAT MASTER (I WAS USING THEM FOR MY FURNACE AND I HAVE A COMBINED UNIT, A RHEEM, WHICH IS ABOUT 5 YRS OLD). FIRST VISIT FROM THE TECH INDICATED A LEAKY EVAPORATOR COIL WAS AT FAULT. A LATER VISIT FROM ANOTHER TECH CONFIRMED THE 1ST TECH'S ANALYSIS. AFTER WHICH ANOTHER TECH WAS SUPPOSED TO VISIT TO EITHER REPLACE THE COILS OR AT LEAST RECHARGE THE FREON. I WAS CHARGED FOR 2 VISITS, ABOUT $100 PLUS THE COST OF THE FREON.

THE HOUSE VISIT IS VERY REASONABLE AT $55 (DON'T FORGET TO USE THEIR COUPON IN THE NEWSLETTER FOR AN ADDITIONAL $15 OFF). IT TOOK THREE VISITS TO FIX MY CHALLENGING PROBLEM, BUT I WAS ONLY CHARGED FOR THE INITIAL VISIT AND THEN FOR THE FINAL CORRECT REPLACEMENT PART. ALL TOLD THESE GUYS WERE A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH, PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY. I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN.
Description of Work: MY 10 YR OLD CARRIER FURNACE WAS NOT RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY. IT CYCLED ON AND OFF SO OFTEN THAT MY HOUSE WAS ACTUALLY GETTING COLDER, AND THE FURNACE JUST COULDN'T KEEP UP.

I HAD AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE WITH HEATMASTERS BEFORE AND THEY MADE SURE THAT THE MATTER WAS ADDRESSED WITHIN A FEW DAYS. ESTIMATES CAME IN AND THE RESPONSIVENESS WAS EXCELLENT. THIS COMPANY OBVIOUSLY CARES ABOUT ITS REPUTATION AND WAS WILLING TO WORK WITH ME TO RECTIFY WHAT MUST HAVE BEEN AN EXCEPTION (POOR TREATMENT ORIGINALLY) RATHER THAN THE RULE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM IN THE FUTURE.

THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD DONE A FEW THINGS INCORRECTLY AND THE HEAT MASTER GUY WORKED DILIGENTLY IN GETTING IT ALL SET UP RIGHT AND CLEANED. HE EVEN TOOK THE AIR FILTER OUTSIDE AND WASHED IT OFF WITH THE HOSE.
