Description of Work: The serviceman lied to me. He said a certain part did not exist and the job would cost a lot to complete. My handyman did the job for 1/2 the price and took me to the store where the piece DID exist....I would never trust those guy again

Everything was perfect. They were the lowest of several estimates, began work when they said they would, finished early. They were careful of the home and took precautions to avoid damage to floors and walls. They adapted quickly and effectively to a couple of unforeseen circumstances and stayed within the budget estimate. They were friendly, responsive, and highly professional. Working with HeatCool was the first time--out of several over some 30 years--that I actually enjoyed working with an HVAC firm.
Description of Work: HeatCool replaced two furnaces which were passed useful life and two air conditioners getting the same way, installing state-of-the-art replacement units plus electronic air filters and humidifiers. They were installing the equipment in a 125 y/o home and were working with ductwork that was jury-rigged by previous owners some 20 years earlier.

Having the air conditioners installed cost me $1500 and the preventative maintenance cost me $200. When they installed the units, they seemed to know what they were doing as they had to etch around the window to make the a/c window unit fit. When they came to do preventative maintenance, they didn't seem to know what they were doing. They just sprayed something in the a/c unit and wouldn't answer any questions. After this maintenance, one a/c quit working and the other one is making funny noises as if it is going to die. Now it is broken and I am waiting for the service man. They haven't returned any phone calls, come to check it out or fix it. I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: They put in two window air conditioners and have done preventative maintenance. One unit is in the window and the other was installed through a wall.

They made a mess of the duct work causing the distribution of hot air to be totally off. The living room and office combo rooms (about 40% of the house) was getting about 25% of the heated air. Completely denied that their decision on the duct work was wrong and wanted to charge another $1000 to get the duct work right. How could someone who works this stuff everyday design a system that send 30% of air to 40% of the house, especially to the most common unused room. Also they installed the humidifier so it is very difficult to remove the filter and you can barely access the humidistat when it could have easily been installed on the other side for very easy access. As a friend described the tangled mess of duct work, "the furnace that ate the basement", and it still didn't work right!

First made a mistake with wiring that caused the furnace soar to 90 a whole night. Made a bad call on ductwork that didn't distribute heat effectively and instead of fixing it, continuely made excuses, accused me of exaggerating and said that any change would cost more money. I should've know when I heard his conversation trying to placate another customer. Then, in spite of never fixing the problem, continually called to see if I wanted to sign a service agreement. Spare yourself the grief!
Description of Work: Installed new top-of-the-line Bryant furnace. Put in new ductwork based on determined flow.

Saw heatcool ad in paper. John came to check system, recommended dampers and quoted nearly $1,000. First, his guys came to do clean/check on 2 furnaces -- seemed professional & good. Then came their duct cleaner subcontractor who was astoundingly rude and messy, though perhaps latter complaint is unavoidable. Would never use HIM again. Then 2 heatcool guys came back to do damper work, which took 1.5 hrs. As I had a new baby, I was distracted and w/out questioning paid agreed amount. After they left I realized I'd just paid at a rate of about $750/hr. Called John and was pleased to find him willing to reconsider charge. However, it took weeks to get him on the phone again. His 1st offer, a discount on future work, that was unacceptable. Eventually we got him to refund a couple hundred dollars, we accepted just to get it over with. It's disappointing because I think their guys are good. Valerie in office, great. But can't go back to someone who overcharged so egregiously.

The price may seem high. These were the most efficient furnaces they installed. Same for the A/C. The just did the job right. Some examples: 1) There were existing units that had the electrical run to them. Instead of running a junction box to the new units, they ran new wire to the fuse box adding 3/4 of a day. 2) Worked overtime to get the A/C in before an upcoming hot weekend. 3) Replaced an existing 1/4 copper line with a 3/8 inch line for proper sizing back to the evaporator coil. 4)Increased return duct size for proper sizing. The point is, they paid attention to detail that most other would have causally skipped.

CALLED SEVERAL OTHER RECOMMENDED HVAC COMPANIES, BUT NONE SERVICED WINDOW-MOUNTED UNITS. ALL RECOMMENDED I CALL HEATCOOL WHO SPECIALIZE IN THEM. COMPANY REPRESENATIVE JOHN WAS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND GAVE GOOD ADVICE ON OUR OPTIONS. A LITTLE EXPENSIVE FOR THE WORK THAT HE DID, BUT HE DID QUOTE ACCURATE PRICES BEFORE DOING THE WORK. I WOULD USE THEM TO INSTALL NEW UNITS WHICH WE PLAN TO DO IN THE FUTURE. PRICES QUOTED FOR THIS WORK SEEM REASONABLE.
