Description of Work: I went down the basement stairs to feed our cats about 5:30 p.m. yesterday to find water four inches deep over most of the basement. There was no obvious explanation, no leaking pipes, no broken hot water heater. Gabe's son was out on an emergency job with the family truck at the time, so Gabe came over himself to assess the damage. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a blockage in the sewer line between the cutout in front of our house (a cutout he installed several years ago after we had a similar problem) and the street. He surmised--correctly, as it turned out--that roots from the tree on our parkway had invaded the sewer line and were the cause of the problem. When his son arrived about 45 minutes later, about 20 minutes of rodding in the sleet and snow that had begun falling did the trick. The bit on the rodding line came back twisted with tree roots. The water began flowing into the basement drains.
