Green City Landscapes

JD was helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable, responsive, and professional from start to finish. He responded to my initial search on Angie's List within a minute! We got an estimate from one other business, which was considerably less, but it became clear that JD was much more knowledgeable about trees and landscape design. He met with us twice before we had even committed to hiring him for what was a fairly simple project on our small property. In other words, I'm sure he has plenty of other jobs that result in more income, but he took our project seriously and made sure all our questions were answered. He understood the look we were trying to avoid, and had several excellent suggestions for alternative approaches. He mentioned some possibilities for future landscaping in connection with our tree installation, but he did not try to "up-sell" us. I was excited about the ideas and look forward to working with JD in the future.

Very pleased with Green City Landscapes. Luis and his crew are incredibly knowledgeable and do very high quality work. Green City was recommended to me by a work colleague who used them to completely design and build her backyard, which included building a large patio, several retaining walls, a grill/cooking area, handling drainage problems, rebuilding their front porch stairs, and plant evergreens and various other trees and ornamental shrubs in the front and back of their home. The finished product looked very high quality so I decided to give Luis a call for what I wanted done with my own landscaping. I'm glad I made the call. Green City is probably not the least expensive landscapers out there but you are assured high quality work that is done correctly and with great customer service. I have used several landscapers over the years and have often been disappointed by the quality of work and finished product. That was not the case with Green City.

We had always been under the impression that when you hired a contractor locally that it shouldn't be a problem, especially when the contractor is roughly within your own zip code. Apparently we were mistaken. We contact this company, explained to them what we wanted an estimate for, provided them a considerable amount of information, and then were told that we could schedule a date for an estimate/proposal. The representative said they would call back. When they did they stated that they could not send anyone out because our residence was beyond their geographical boundaries! Really? Since when is a matter of 5 miles within the same city outside of the geographical boundaries of a particular company. If it were the suburbs I'd understand. But this sudden revelation is bizarre . . . that is unless this particular contractor "red lines" certain areas or neighborhoods. For his information, the neighborhood we live in is made of of all working and retired people, professional, middle to upper middle class - regardless of race. It is the Pill Hill/Calumet Heights community. Guess it just goes to show that the old "race issues trump business" once again rears it's ugly head in Chicago.

Luis does all of the quotes and he is incredibly professional. He arrived on time for the appt and returned the quote within 24 hours. He gave us some good ideas about how to approach this project. We have had him quote a number of projects and he was very patient with us while we were being indecisive. In fact, he had quoted the job about 6 months before and we waited to pull the trigger. Their prices are not the cheapest, but I think the prices reflect the quality. He scheduled us about two week out since they were busy with spring work. He came out to the site the day before the work got started to be sure nothing had changed and he understood the scope of work. They arrived as planned and completed the work exactly to specification over the course of two days. They left the site clean and we were totally satisfied. I would use this provider again.
