"Thank you for this review! I appreciate your hiring us for the plumbing repairs that you needed recently. We know that there are other plumbers that you could have used, and am happy that you chose us. We promise to make every effort to deliver great work at a reasonable price, and hope that you will continue to use us should a plumbing issue arise again."
"Thank you very much for having us over to install your new water heater. Originally, this client contacted me on Saturday night. I responded and offered to come out late that night or on Sunday, but to save some money she opted to wait until Monday. There was a fair amount of repiping in order to install the new water heater, but we were able to do this and get hot water restored by the afternoon. We appreciate your hiring us to handle this work for you!"
I am a new homeowner so I am both ignorant about plumbing and have uncovered several questions about my property.
Ed came through the house and answered these questions with clarity and honesty. He never seemed to be trying to drum up more work (in fact, he was giving me tips on how to perform repairs by myself. I even asked him some questions about a renovation project we are planning and he gave me thoughtful, COST EFFECTIVE advice.
He was also incredibly nice to my dog and my kid, for what that's worth.
Finally, the cost was incredibly reasonable. No charge to come out to the house, no attempts to nickle and dime or upsell.
Overall, knowledgeable, helpful, cost-effective. WIll definitely use them again and will be keeping them at the top of my list for bigger projects.
"Thank you very much! I appreciate your very kind review as well as rewarding us with a service call. We are a small company, and I am careful about who I hire to send to your home-honesty and integrity are very important, and that includes not selling our customers more than they need or desire, but also educating you on what we are doing and why, and why we recommend certain procedures. I am happy that you are pleased with us and look forward to serving you again in the future. Mike Goode, Goode Plumbing"
He also made sure to ask me where I'd heard about Goode Plumbing so that I got my 10% off. I was so happy to have it fixed that the Angie's list referral had slipped my mind until he mentioned it.
I left work and met Ed, who arrived about five minutes after I did which worked out very well. I explained that I needed an under sink water heater installed (or more appropriately, I needed my installation to be fixed), he checked it out and walked me through how he arrived at an estimate of $225. His logic seemed reasonable, but it was a little more expensive than I expected (without much reason behind my expectation). He capped the ice maker line for no charge. There was one part he needed and didn't have in the truck, so he went to a hardware store to get it and then returned and performed the work.
Ed was great. He not only knew what he was doing, but also explained what he was doing to me, which I thought was fantastic. After he finished the install, he pointed out that our drained looked loose. It clearly was because when he shook it to show me that it was loose, it actually came off in his hand. He re-installed it much better than it was previously done for no additional charge.
I wouldn't hesitate to call Goode again if I have another issue.
"Thank you very much! I appreciate the work as well as your taking the time to write a review about us here. I normally answer my emails the same day, and often times in an hour or two. This weekend, we were pretty backlogged with emergency calls with people having major leaks from pipes that were frozen, and thawed with the warmer temperatures the past few days. Sometimes when pipes freeze, they can burst or split, causing some fairly major damage! So I do appreciate your patience with my response time for your project. Ed is a very knowledgeable plumber, and I am happy he did a nice job for you. Regarding our pricing, while it is true that we are not the lowest priced company around, I think that our service and quality still make us an excellent value. If one were to shop around, I am confident you would agree that for the money, we are pretty tough to beat! Thank you again for your kind words and for choosing Goode Plumbing to take care of this service call."
"Thank you very much, Member. We have done various projects and repairs to the plumbing system at this client's home. We appreciate the loyalty-this member is a very nice person and a pleasure to work for-he is always appreciative and we are happy that he has rewarded us with working in his home."
I had several smaller jobs rolled together and he knocked them out in less than an hour. The main reason for the call was a toilet "flapper" that had failed, which he replaced for me and tightened up the handle. Then he checked my kitchen sink which was draining a bit slowly. He offered to rod it out but together we decided it probably didn't need it at this moment and that mostly I was getting an air lock with the removable food trap. He then schooled me on water heaters since mine has been "gurgling" of late. At a later date, I will service it unless I replace it outright, in which case I will call Goode to help me! For a closer, Mike cleaned out the shower head that had been clogged with minerals and the water pressure is now much better.
Great experience. Fast. Friendly. Affordable. And I learned several things in the process about plumbing and water heaters. Goode is now my plumbing service. Thank you!!
"Thank you very much for the review and the service call. This Member had a few minor repairs on his punch list. I installed new flapper in his Toto G Max toilet and tested the kitchen sink drain, which was slightly slow but not bad-I believe it was this way due to the design of the disposal catch, rather than a true obstruction in the drain. I also looked at his water heater and gave him some advise, as he mentioned. I cleaned a shower head in his guest bathroom, which had poor flow due to sediment build up. Your business is appreciated!"
"Thank you, Member. I appreciate the review as well as the service call. Jeff has been with us for quite a while and is indeed a true professional-I am proud that he is a member of our team. I am glad that the simplest solution in this case worked for you!"
was to provide me with a quote for just updating connections and then another quote with updating connections and a new water heatet. After a couple of weeks I received two quotes, one with a basic water heater and one with a venting waterheater. That was fine but I never got a quote for the basic upgrade of my connections without the purchase of a new water heater.
"Hello Member, at our meeting, it was my understanding that you did not want to leave the old water heater. You mentioned to me that due to health reasons and a busy schedule, you did not want to leave the existing water heater. We discussed replacing the water heater and several fittings that had been installed incorrectly by a contractor in the past. I sent you a quote with some options. I followed up asking if you had any questions. Your reply was that you were going to look the quote over and get back to me if you had any questions, etc. I would have been happy to give you a quote for simply replacing fittings, but again, based on our discussion both in person and via email, you were looking to replace the water heater at the same time. I apologize if there was any misunderstanding on my end, but again, I was quoting things based off of what we discussed at the time. I'd love to be able to assist you, whether it is with quoting portions of the work or in service those items. Please let me know if I may be of any assistance. I've left you a reply on your email, and can also be reached on (773)407-1884. Thank you, Mike Goode"
I called two companies that were recommended by the Village of Lincolnwood, both came in with proposals in the $2000. range.
I called Goode Plumbing because they had good reviews on Angies List. They sent Develle Wilson, The estimate was $1200. I liked the price and the detailed explanation that Develle gave of the work that would be done, so I chose Goode.
Develle dealt with the Village in getting a permit and an initial and final inspection. The work was completed in a half day. When the inspector requested a valve change, even thought he did not mention it at the first visit, Develle came out the next day and changed the valve. All of the work was done on a very cold day. Phone calls during the whole process, were returned promptly and Develle was neat and wore slippers when he came in the house.
The cost of the project came in at $175 less than the estimate and a !0 % Angies List coupon was honored.
Overall, I was pleased repair and the Develle's professionalism. I would here Goode again and would recommend them to others
"Thank you for the work as well as the review. We appreciate your rewarding us with the repair work. Sometimes changes to an original scope of work are required, in this case that change being one requested by the Village Inspector. I am glad that Develle did a great job for you and that the work turned out well and passed inspection. He, takes a lot of pride in his work, as do the rest of us at Goode Pumbing."
The plumber said all the pipes would need replacing (the house is ~100 years old). He gave a ball park of $2,000 (not an official estimate). I paid for one drain cleaning. Before the plumber left, he gave the impression I would be hearing from the company again to set up another visit with a different plumber with the proper skills to determine the cost of replacing the pipes.
I didn't hear from the company for a few days, so I contacted different plumbing company. The second company was able to quickly clean the drain and restore service to both the tub and vanity.
UPDATE: I really appreciated the owner following-up with me after I posted this review. I understand there are many uncertain or unknown qualities or conditions for this type of work. I agree the plumber was skilled. After hearing the plumbers explanation about using pressurized air, I didnt want to risk a leak either.
I called the second company because I wanted another opinion. Luckily - and I'd bet it was just luck - the second plumber got me a temporary fix.
I anticipate I'll have to make a permanent repair and replace the pipes. I will call GOODE when that time arrives for an estimate.
"I would like to begin by saying that I apologize for your having a less than positive experience with us. I have sent an email and left a voice mail with this Member and hope to hear back to get some detail and to see if I can help to make up for this visit. I spoke with the plumber that I sent on this service call and got some feedback from his end of things. His opinion on what happened here was that, as the Member explained, he had a drain obstruction in his bathroom. The drain piping was visible from the basement. This piping was of poor design, and in marginal condition. Because of this, he attempted to remove the obstruction with a drain cleaning machine as opposed to another option, a kinetic water ram which uses pressurized air. This did not work, and may have moved the obstruction so that a fixture was not draining, again, as the Member mentions. After using the drain cleaning machine did not work, the options left were to remove the old section of drain piping, or to use pressurized air. From what my plumber-who is very skilled, and has a lot of experience with vintage homes, old piping systems, and drain obstructions-tells me, he explained these options to the homeowner. Because there was a chance the air pressure could possibly cause a leak in the old piping because of it's poor condition, the owner opted to hold off. This would leave the replacement of the drain piping as the best option for a PERMANENT repair. From what I can gather, my plumber wanted to ensure a proper repair and therefore recommended replacement of the old drain piping (he only wanted to replace the drain piping in the problem areas, not "all" of the piping in the home, or anything close to that). I believe that the homeowner, after hearing our estimate, decided to get a second opinion-which I completely understand. I believe the second company probably used pressurized air to open the line-and got lucky that there were no leaks in the piping. Air pressure to remove drain obstructions can indeed temporarily open a drain clog. We do not prefer this method, but have used it in cases where our options are limited such as this. It sounds like there was some miscommunication. If our plumber promised a follow up or update, and we did not deliver that-as indicated by the Member, I am very honestly and truly sorry. This is not acceptable and not how we typically operate! We pride ourselves in giving our clients the best advise and options, as well as top quality workmanship. I hope that this Member does return my call or email and that I can get a little more detail on the situation."
The contractor was thorough in checking all the pipes. He found the broken section, was able to remove it and replace with PVC without much distress to the function of the main waste stack or really any mess.
"Thank you very much rewarding us with this work! I am happy that everything went well. While no one really WANTS a plumber in their home, we do our best to make it as easy and stress free was possible. Thank you also for taking the time to write this review on Goode Plumbing on Angie's List."
"Thank you for calling on Goode Plumbing for your plumbing needs. The average life expectancy of a good quality pump such as this five to seven years, so at eleven, you did quite well! We replaced the pump with a high quality cast iron Zoeller pump, with a new check valve and anti overheat kit. We warranty the complete package for three full years-which includes both parts and labor. I am confident that the new system will give you many years of reliable, quiet service."
"Thank you for this review. While some plumbing problems do indeed require major work, we try to look at the situation in depth before jumping into simply the most intrusive, costly solution. If we think there is a realistic, reliable alternative that will cost less in terms of monetary amount as well as disruption, we will inform you of this. I am glad that this solution seems to have worked out for this member."
"Thank you very much for this review. Ed is a very good plumber indeed, which is why he works for us! I am glad he was able to locate the odor-odors can be a challenge to locate the source of since they can travel to different areas. I appreciate the loyalty. In terms of pricing, I stand by the fact that I feel while not the cheapest company in town, our prices are very competitive, and I am quite confident that you won't find a better deal given our quality and dedication to customer service."
Very professional, using mats and covers to protect the hardwood floors and stairs during the whole process and installed proper drainage system which developer had never done originally. I would use Goode Plumbing again for all my plumbing needs.
"Thank you very much for this review. The $135 price noted here was for the initial service call only. I went out towards the end of the day, and was able to get the existing water heater working until the client could decide which way to go in terms of replacement. We recommended a Bradford White power vent water heater based on her use, and the quality and efficiency of this unit. I also added a leak safety pan with piping to a drain since this was up on a second floor. I had to do some additional water supply work and vent alterations, but the new unit went in well and will surely provide many years of reliable service. Thank you, Member!"
"Member, thank you for the service call as well as the review. I like to think the few words here, sum our little company up pretty well!"
"Thank you, Member! We appreciate the service call and your taking the time to write a review on us on Angie's List. I am glad that you were very happy with our service."
"Thank you very much for this review as well as for the loyalty. It is very important to us that we build a relationship to our customers. While you may not want to see your plumber often, of course, we want you to feel confident that you will receive great service and a good value so that should another plumbing need arise, you feel comfortable knowing that Goode Plumbing is a solid choice."
"Thank you very much for this very nice review as well as the work that you rewarded us with. I am glad that you were happy with Develle's work and our service. He is a hard working plumber-I have found him pulling into our shop on many days at some very late hours to get our customers taken care of. Our plumbers do their best to get things done properly even if it means working late, something both I , and our customers, appreciate."
Diagnosed the problems and gave detailed estimates in 'legible' writing. Was very impressed. Did the work on time without any hiccups.
Very courteous and helpful.
Even have a price list with all the prices listed out -- very convenient.
The only challenge I see is the price -- more than double my expectation. I had to get it done today so not much of a choice
"Thank you for the review and for the service call. We do take pride in our work and service, including wearing shoe covers to protect your floors. In terms of our pricing, as I have always said, I cannot promise to be the lowest priced company in this industry, as our standards for workmanship, etc, do not allow for it. And I do understand that having a plumber out to one's home can be a bit costly-perhaps more than one would expect. However, I am confident that we are very competitive and think that if anyone were to compare our dollar to quality ratio, it would come out very favorable. I do appreciate you business and hope we can continue to be of service."
"Thank you for the review and for the work. We did get quite busy during the holiday, but did our best to keep up with demand as well as possible. Thank you for being kind enough to wait for us. I am glad that you are happy with our service. As you stated, we may not be the cheapest company in town, but we are also not the most expensive by any means, and think that for the quality, service, and warranty that we deliver, you received very good value!"
"Thank you for the review and for calling us out to unclog the toilet. I have to be honest in saying that this customer has used us in the past, and we were working nearby, and the clog took only a few moments to clear, so I waived the invoice for her. Normally we are still quite reasonable, however! Thank you very much for your confidence in us."
"Thank you for the review and the service call. I have done work in the past for this client as well. In this case, she had a leak in a faucet. The faucet was a bit worn, but since she mentioned that she wanted to remodel her bathroom at some point in the not too distant future, I felt it would be best to repair it rather than replace it at this point. I am glad that I had the part in stock and we were able to get it repaired."
