Very well. Mike Goode was prompt in returning my call yesterday and setting up an appointment for the following afternoon. I also liked how he called about a half hour before to inform me that they were running late. Ernie was very meticulous and polite, putting on shoe slippers and asking if he could borrow a paper towel. Good customer service although what was most important to me is that he was honest ... trying to fix the problem versus pushing an expensive replacement unit on me. I also asked him to take a look at another lingering problem, some periodic leaking from a bathroom upstairs. He's got a pretty good hunch of the root cause and we'll be investigating repair options in the near future.
Description of Work: The garbage disposal in my kitchen sink ground to a halt a few days ago. I wasn't quite sure what the problem might be, but had a hunch something was jammed inside -- yet didn't want to stick my own fingers down the drain in order to find out. I found Goode on AngiesList, liked what I read, gave them a call, and had them out the next day. It took Ernie just a couple minutes to identify the problem ... there was a penny jammed inside ... and about a half hour to fix it. That's because he was trying to save the unit I already had versus taking the risk of damaging it and, thereby, creating the need for a replacement.

Thank you for the work and the review. I appreciate your mentioning the fact that our plumber that did the job for you, Ernie, was able repair rather than replace the unit. We pride ourselves in doing honest work, and keeping our clients informed of when things can be repaired, and when they are in need of replacement.

It was a great job...they responded quickly to the call that there was a leak, found the problem and fixed it.
Description of Work: There was a leak in the condo unit on 1st floor bathroom. Goode Plumbing came out and determined the toilet in the 2nd floor bathroom wasn't seated correctly and was leaking down into the 1st floor. They re-seated and sealed the toilet. The leaking stopped.

Thank you for the report and for rewarding us with a service call in your home. The leak that we fixed was one of the more common ones that we come across-a toilet leaking when flushed due to a failed was seal. We installed a new seal, anchor kit, and supply line, and tested the work once it was complete.

I was referred to Goode through a neighbor after my basement had flooded for the third time. Mike Goode provided me with options and estimates to solve the ongoing problem. I had received an estimate from another plumber I had used previously, and Goode's pricing was much more competitive and the bid more professional. I decided to have Goode install a new flood control system which was a major project. I interacted with at least five different employees of Goode Plumbing over the course of the project and each was more professional and competent than the next. They not only did the work, but left my basement extremely clean and in order. Subsequently, I've had two toilets with problems and used Goode to fix both of these. In the most recent case, I was in need of having the toilet fixed on short notice because of guests coming to my home. Mike worked with me to have someone come the same day so that it would be working that evening. If you are looking for extremely professional plumbers, who do excellent work, I highly recommend Goode Plumbing.
Description of Work: I have used Goode Plumbing on three occasions: to install a flood control system and twice for toilet repairs. The installation of the flood control system involved demolition of my basement floor, removal of an old sump pump and installation of a new system over the course of more than a week of work. The fill valve on the toilets needed to be replaced.

Hello, Thank you for the report. Our policy is to price things up front whenever possible. If there is ever an issue with price, I will always do my best to work with our customers within reason. We do not ever want anyone to feel that they got anything less than a fair deal. Our plumbers all know that if a customer has a problem of any kind, to call me personally so that I can work with the customer on whatever the issue is. Please remember that our plumbers are highly skilled and can complete things, in most cases, more quickly than those with less skill. If any customer has an issue with ANYTHING-be it price or anything else, I ask that you please let the plumber, or myself, know, and we will do our very best to work with you, or at the very least, explain why something is so. If you would be kind enough to call me on my cell, (773) 407-1884, I would be happy to discuss the issue. We are providing you with a service, and you are rewarding us with the work in your home, so we need to work together. Thank you, Mike Goode

The representative showed up, evaluated the work I requested to be done, and provided an estimate. Once the estimate was approved he picked up some necessary parts from a local hardware store, returned promptly and began on the work. The work was done quickly, clean and since some rust was detected in the hot water line he cleaned that out as well. Everything worked as expected at the end of the visit. Very professional, very polite.

I appreciate the work and the report. Thank you. I replaced the drain work under the kitchen sink as well as some of the drain work going into the wall. I redesigned the lay out of this tubular drain work so that it was properly installed-previously, the drain work was done incorrectly. I also replaced supply lines to the faucet and flushed out the isolation valves, which had some corrosion which was causing low pressure at the faucet.

This plumbing company is really great. They are efficient, fair and do good work and always come out in a timely manner. I definitely recomment them for your plumbing issues. John came out today after I called about a rusted out pipe under my sink. He was excellent. He was efficient, fast and fixed the problem with ease. He was also very clean, which I appreciate very much. He didn't charge me because they had come out before to fix the piping underneath before and he said their work is always under warranty. I appreciate that so much and was really surprised about that, I will recommend these guys to anybody. Fantastic. I will be bringing them back soon to fix my outdoor spigot.

Thank you for the kind words! This work was completed under warranty as the client stated. A new P trap that we installed some time ago started to leak. We found the trap to be defective and installed a new replacement, 17 gauge (which is our standard-heavier grade part) at no cost. Our goal is not the be the cheapest company in town, but one that provides excellent workmanship, top quality materials, and a great warranty that we really stand behind.

I am certainly sorry that you are dissapointed with us, and would like to say that I have settled this matter with the client. However, there are a few things I do feel the need to clarify. Firstly, we do not quote prices over the phone as there is no real, accurate way to do this. Our customers know that we like to come out and look at the situation first and give an accurate quote. Second, I never quoted him $65 per hour. We charge by the job, not by the hour, and have done so from the day we opened our doors. This way our customers know up front what the cost will be, and not worry about how fast or slow we work. If we did have an hourly rate, there is no way we could remain in business at that rate. The cost of putting a licensed plumber in a professional van, and have him or her fully insured as is required by law, etc, would not permit that rate. While we are very competitively priced, our standards of quality and running a completely legal. legitimate business, do not allow us to have rock bottom low pricing. We have to price things so that they are done correctly, and so that we are able to remain in business to for many years to come! Originally, my plumber went out the the job and quoted a price to install a disposal and rod a drain. The Member, who lives out of state (his tenant let us in), called me and felt the price was high for the disposal. I told him that the disposals we stock are professional grade with either a 6 or 8 year warranty depending on model. He asked if he cold have us come back and install an inexpensive unit that he would have his tenant purchase. I told him this was no problem, and we agreed on a price. My plumber went back once the disposal was purchased, and installed the unit. He also rodded the drain line-which, to do properly, takes drain cleaning equipment. My plumber charged the tenant and was paid. The owner called me back and said that the price my plumber charged was higher than the price I had agreed to him on. I asked him if he would give me a couple of days to look into the matter, as we were a little shorthanded and I was working in the field more than usual that week. He agreed. I told him that if there was a mistake in the pricing, I would certainly take care of it. I do admit, that I should have been faster to respond and get the refund to the client. I did refund the differenence. Again, my apologies for the delay in getting this refund handled. I do not agree with everything the Member has written-he was very happy with the quality and everything else except for the confusion on pricing and my speed at getting the refund to him. I do understand him being unhappy about this confusion and the speed, and do again apologize. We have certainly not grown to be so big that we charge whatever we want. Our prices have not been raised in over two years. We are still a small shop and we care about each and every client. Which is why I agreed to work with this member on our price and have refunded the difference to him. I hope that I was able to make this situation up to the member, and appreciate his business and his paitence.

Our water heater had been leaking for about a week and we were concerned that it would "blow out" and flood our basement. I called Mike Goode and asked if he could come out to assess the situation and give us an estimate on a new heater. Mike was pleasant and accommodating and very knowledgeable about his trade. His estimate was in line with another company that gave me an estimate over the phone, but it only included a warranty on parts--Mike's warranty is 6 years on parts AND labor. We decided to have the work done and he installed it the next day. Mike did the work with one of his technicians--they were efficient, polite and prompt. We would definitely call him again. My husband asked him about an unrelated problem with a water faucet and he told us how to fix it. It is so nice to have really hot water again--and no leaks!

Thank you for the work and the words. I appreciate your hiring Goode Plumbing to install your new water heater. As this Member mentioned, this unit is covered by our parts and labor warranty, which is good for 6 years in this case. That means if something fails on the water heater in a couple of years, the Member will not have to pay us to install a warranty supplied part-we will take care of it on our time. We have done a lot of research and testing of brands and feel confident when offering this protection. And we take care and pride in our work when installing them, so that we are confident in offering a lifetime warranty against defects in our own workmanship.

I had originally gotten another estimate from another plumber for the work (that also appears on Angie's list) but I was put off by the fact that the other plumbing service kept trying to upsell me on warranties before I had even agreed to any work. So, I called Goode Plumbing based on the great reviews as well as Mike's responsiveness to those reviews. I wasn't disappointed. Mike was punctual and professional. You can tell he takes great pride in his work and stands behind the work he does and will work to make sure the customer is happy. The water heater works wonderfully and I feel that Mike took great care to make sure that it was installed properly so that it will last a long time. The other repairs were minor but were taken care of and were tested to make sure everything was in working order. I would definitely call upon Mike Goode for future plumbing needs and feel confident that the work being done would be quality at a fair price.

Thank you for the review and the work. We installed a new, Bradford White water heater as well as repaired a few small plumbing items in this client's newly purchased condominium home. In most cases, an extended warranty does nothing to improve the quality of the water heater. In some cases, a second anode rod is added. Most often, it is just money tacked on for peace of mind-which we do understand. However, our standard warranty on water heaters recommended, furnished, and installed by us, are covered for both parts and labor. In nearly all other cases, the labor warranty-even on extended warranties, is only for one year, since it is required by law that a plumber covers his or her labor for that time. Our standard warranty on a basic water heater is 6 years, parts and labor. Plus our standard lifetime warranty against defects in our workmanship. I feel with that kind of protection, you really do not need to obtain an extended warranty. They are available to those who do want them.

This was the first time I called Goode Plumbing. I had been unsatisfied with my last experience with the plumber we had before, so I looked on Angie's list, and picked them based on the reviews here. I called them about a week before to have them come out to re-hook up all of the kitchen plumbing after the install of new counters and under-mount sink. They checked in with me the morning of the install. I told them that the installers were late, they would check in with me later. it turned out that, not only did the counter project get started somewhat later than expected, but also took an hour longer. I called Mike Goode when the installers finally left. He said that they had gone to another job, but he would try hard to still fit me in that day. He said he would call me in about 40 min. Sure enough, I did get a call from a plumber that worked for him later saying that he was about 5 min. away from my home. Because the new sink was much deeper than the old one, he had to reconfigure the pipe so the garbage disposal would fit. He was able to do it with materials he had on his truck, which was a relief because it was getting late and the plumbing supply place was closing soon. The plumber who came by was very competent, polite and everything seems fine. I would definitely hire Goode Plumbing again.
Description of Work: They came out to connect my sink, garbage disposal and dishwasher after I had new counter tops and a new sink installed. They also installed the new faucet and did a couple of minor repairs in my bathroom. Because the new sink was much deeper than the old one, they had to reconfigure the pipe to the garbage disposal.

Thank you for the work and the report. We had the Member scheduled for a late morning connection of a new sink that she was having delivered after her new counter top installation. The company doing the counter top installation was delayed, but we did our best to work around them. While we are a small shop that stays busy and cannot always reschedule within the same day, we do the best we can especially in a case where the client would have been without use of a kitchen sink or dishwasher. The plumber that we sent out on this particular call, Bob, worked late to get this Member's kitchen back up and running again. I appreciate the work from the member and the hard work from our plumbing technician. Mike Goode, Goode Plumbing LLC

It is not difficult to convey the urgency of replacing your only toilet that is no longer functional and Mike was sensitive to this, given that we have two small children, one of whom has just recently transitioned into potty training. Mike was clear about what was possible and what could be a slippery slope in having to re-tile the floor, as the footprint of the new toilet would not be the same as the old one. He was very careful to wear coverings over his shoes every time he entered our home. He took a couple of measurements, we arranged a call for early the next morning to discuss models and price, and less than an hour after that call, Bob D. arrived to install the new toilet. He was absolutely the cleanest and most thorough contractor that has ever worked on our home. Bob patiently listened to my questions about potential snafus we may run into if/when we re-tile the bathroom. Bob showed me the potential cause of the busted toilet was the amateur and uneven floor tile work performed by an earlier owner, and made some suggestions on how to do the job right in the future should we decide to go that route. Bob left the two mounting bolts long so if we do re-tile the floor, we would have length to work with to still securely mount the toilet to the floor, depending on the depth of the underlayment and new tiles. Bob completed the job in just about an hour and I could not be happier with my overall experience with Mike and Bob of Goode Plumbing. I can't recommend them highly enough, absolutely the best contractor experience I have ever had through Angie's List.
Description of Work: Mike Goode was able to make it to our house in the early evening of President's Day to give us an estimate for replacement of our only toilet, the same day we realized that our toilet of unknown age had cracked completely around the base. Clearly, our need for a new toilet was immediate. True to everything that Mike asserted to me about price, delivery and installation, Bob D. arrived early the next morning and our new toilet was in place less than 24 hours after initially calling Goode Plumbing.

Thank so very much for this! I also appreciate the phone message that you left with me as well. All of the plumbing technicians at Goode Plumbing work very hard. We really and truly have a great group that cares about the company and the clients they work for. There are times that, as humans, we are imperfect. It honestly and truly bothers me and all of us here on the rare occasion that we may have not been one hundred percent perfect-because that is what we aim for with each job, whether it is a small service call, a flood control system, or a complete repiping of a home. When we get a review like this, it makes us really keep aiming for that one hundred percent satisfaction goal. In this case, the Member had a toilet with a fairly unusual rough in for the toilet of 14 inches (standard these days is 12 inches, 10 inches being the next most common, in older homes), so the choice of toilets was already limited. The second challenge came in finding one in stock locally, since this was the only toilet in the house. I have five kids in my own home so I could see this member's panic in being without! We made some calls and one of our dealers located a 14 inch toilet of good quality and reasonable cost, in stock, and I am very happy we were able to get this in for the member. I appreciate the work and the kind words.

During the estimate, Mike stated that it was important to not only just change the washer for the hot tap, but change the what I think is called the stem assembly along with the washer for both hot and cold taps. He stated that the old sink stem was made out of a soft metal and just by changing the washer, it could begin to leak again within a few months. Therefore, he felt it was best to do the washer and stem for both so it will be good for many years to come. Bob was the one to come and do the work. He was very nice, on time, and did not leave a mess at all. I would totally use them again. I now feel better knowing that I know someone who has expereince with the old fashion plumbing and sinks. I love my old sinks and do not want to have to replace them if I do not need to.
Description of Work: My old fashion farmer Kitchen sink's drain piping was corroded where the pipe attaches to the drain itself. The pipe and the drain needed to be replaced. Also, I have the original bathroom sink that hangs on the wall and has the back splash. The hot water tap has been dripping for quite sometime. I was afraid to get it fixed because it is so old and was not sure if a plumber would have the experience for the old sink. They did. The stems and washers were replaced for both cold and hot water taps.

Thank you for the report and the service call. I replaced a fill valve and water supply line for this Member. The fill valve gasket was leaking, and since the valve was of low quality and had to be removed to get at the gasket, I installed a new assembly. The supply line was made of a low quality material as well and did not meet code, so I replaced it with the proper part. We cover these items with a two year parts and labor warranty.

Thank you very much for the report and for the work. This job involved a somewhat tricky, custom installation of a tub drain clean out to make it flush with the floor and cover it up with a drum trap type of cover so that it looked period appropriate next to the Member's vintage bath tub. When one of my plumbers did not complete this to our high standards, our this client's expectations, I went out and corrected it. These guys did a really great job of turning up on short notice and identifying a hard to find leak in my house. Their initial estimate was 45 dollars and when they left, they told me it was going to be 250 dollars. When I called Mike to clear this up, he immediately reverted back to the 45 dollar charge. They were also very nice and professional and a pleasure to have in the house. However, I ended having my old handyman/plumber fix the entire leak problem for one third what Goode was estimating. Also, my guy managed to correctly diagnose the problem where Goode had missed a serious block in a big pipe that was causing overflow. That said, if I had let Goode continue the work on the house, they would have likely found their mistake.

Response from Goode Plumbing
Thank you, member for the review. This member had a leak from her second floor onto her first floor. I told her that for a $49.95 we would come out and do a basic once over to determine where the leak was from-testing sinks, toilet, etc. When this turned up nothing, we found that in order to locate the leak, we would have to open up drywall to access some of the plumbing. My plumber spent nearly three hours there, protecting floors with drop cloths, and opening up the drywall in areas to determine the source of the leak. He noted that there was a section of vent pipe and soil stack that was cracked and deteriorated, From the openings he made up to that point, he could not determine an exact price as he could only see a portion of the defective areas. The $250 was for the work up to this point. He agreed to let her handyman come in the next day to open up the additional drywall to save her money over paying a licensed plumber to do it. There was a misunderstanding- three hours opening walls and locating a problem area is beyond a basic dispatch fee. However, since my plumber did not make her more aware that there would be a cost to do this, as he really should have, I agreed to waive the usual charge. This member did have her handyman open the additional wall, and he rodded the obstructed line. This relieved the pressure that was causing the water to enter the deteriorated vent piping, which was then leaking down to the floor below. However, it must be understood that since he or she did not replace the defective sections of piping, there is still a pretty major problem here. Not only will it leak if the line becomes obstructed again, which will cause damage to the drywall that was just cut open and replaced, this means that harmful bacteria can be emitted. We can not, as licensed plumbers, leave a problem that poses a potential health hazard. Our price was substantially higher because we were quoting the actual, permanent repair and not just a temporary one such as only removing the obstruction. I do appreciate your having us out originally and hope that you will consider us should you decide to have the defecting piping replaced. Thank you.

Mike did excellent work for me, getting the job done in the time specified and on the budget we agreed upon. His price was the best bid I received and the quality of the work was exceptional. Mike even found some issues within my condo building that hadn't been identified before and was able to repair those at a reasonable price. And when we had issues the next day with hot water in the building, Mike came back and worked for a few hours to try and troubleshoot the issue (it ultimately was an issue with the boiler and had nothing to do with Mike's work).

Thank you for the report as well as the work. We install some new copper water supply piping, installed a new section of cast iron for a toilet, a new tub and shower faucet, and replaced some shut off valves. I am glad we were able to work around your contractor and appracate your working with us on your bathroom project. As the Member mentioned, there was a separate, unrelated hot water issue. I looked at it for him and identified what I believed to be the issue, but since it was a boiler issue I recommended a boiler service company to the customer just to be certain.

Mike responded quickly to our call about a leaking kitchen drain and faucet problem. He made a temporary fix until the store that carries the rare valve part would open after the holidays. He followed up immediately and replaced the part. Mike is courteous, knowledgeable and very pleasant. We will definitely use Mike again for all our plumbing needs.
Description of Work: The kitchen drain was leaking and leaving puddles of water in the cabinet below. The faucet hot/cold stick was very difficult to move and on and off and eventually had difficulty to turn the faucet off.

Thank you for the report and the service call. As this Member mentioned, she had an issue in her faucet that required some replacement parts. As the faucet that she had was not common, we had to obtain the faucet from a specialty dealer, who had closed for two weeks for the holiday. I was able to disassemble and lubricate the facuet enough to get it working well enough to get by until the dealer reopened, at which time we obtained the proper parts for a permanent repair.

Disposal rusted through on a Sunday evening - called first thing Monday morning to their answering service. A gentleman called to talk it over and schedule an appointment for 2 pm same afternoon. The technician showed up basically at 2 pm on the dot, diagnosed it, went out to their supplier to get a new disposal unit, and came back to install it. He was very nice and cleaned up the job space really well, letting me know what had happened and leaving owner's manuals behind. And there is a 6-year warranty??? That is really good. The only reason I put N/A on the price was that I was really motivated to get the job taken care of and I did not bid it out. But the tech quoted a price right away and stuck to it, no surprises.

Thank you for the report. We sell and install high quality food waste disposals. They come with either a six or eight year warranty-and we cover the complete disposal-not prorated! While I would not call them cheap in terms of cost, they are reasonable given the quiet operation and longevity.

It's long process to complete a finished basement. They had to break open the slab in the basement and redo all the plumbing in the basement. See above for a detailed list.
Description of Work: We had Goode redo our basement plumbing for overhead sewers and we added a bathroom and a laundry room. They did all of the following: Scope the drains to find where they ran Opened up the slab and rerouted all the sewer lines Added an ejector pump for the kitchen and basement drains New water lines for the outside New rough in plumbing for a shower and bathroom and laundry room Rerouted the gas lines for the dryer Fixed water lines for the humidifier and ice maker It was a lot of work but their team was really skilled and we are very happy with the service.

Mike Goode came in and provided a competitive estimate. When my timing worked, Mike sent another technician to install a new 50 gallon water heater to replace a poor quality heater with no power vent as I needed one that could vent to the side wall.I was not available to oversee the work so Mike's technician let himself in and pretty much spent the entire day on site. There was some clean up and finishing touches I had requested and his technician promptly took care of those on the back end.I'm glad to have Goode Plumbing in the neighborhood that I'm now a part of.

Thank you for rewarding us with the replacement of your water heater. There was quite a bit of vent and gas piping required as the previous unit had been installed, well, creatively. We furnished and installed a Bradford White power vented water heater, backed by our full six year parts and labor warranty, along with our full port drain valve and brass inlet and outlet fittings. We redesigned the venting so that it was done properly, replaced the flexible gas connection with hard piping, and installed a drain pan under the unit since it was close to a finished wood floor. Welcome to the neighborhood, and thank you for the work.

Called Goode on Wed of a busy week near the holidays and they we able to come out after 4pm that Friday (even earlier if I wanted). Called another top company from Angie's to compare and they stop working at 3.30p all days of the week due to union restrictions, so I went with Goode as they work well with my schedule. Mike was about an hour late, but that was fine since it was Friday eve and so late in the day after all the other jobs (plus I live downtown). Mike was very apologetic and I could tell that this is not how he usually arrives. Mike quickly assessed the situation and was very clean in my house with the heavy equipment needed to do the job. He is extremely pleasant to talk with and answered any question I had. On several occasions he thanked me for my business and honored the 10% coupon from Angie's List just by me mentioning it. In the end the price was about as expected and he was in and out in about an hour. I would DEFINITELY use Goode again and would ask for Mike, he's a people person and does a great job.

Thank you, Member for the work and for taking the time to write a report on us here. I try to be as punctual as possible, but unless it is the first call of the day, it can be a little tough-we sometimes run into jobs that take us a little longer than expected. Thank you for being patient. As this member noted, we care about keeping your home clean. In this case, I was removing an obstruction from a kitchen sink-so used padding and plastic on the floor, and laid some plastic dropcloths around the surrounding cabinets.

In detail- Jeff called and asked if he could come early. He taught me about my plumbing, which did not require repair and made a quick adjustment to my shower head. I appreciated the integrity and the knowledge.
Description of Work: I had a toilet that would not stop running and I also asked the plumber to look at my water pressure in my shower. He corrected both issues and did not charge me. I will definitely recommend them and use them again. Best plumbing experience EVER!!!!!!!
