Goode Plumbing was able to schedule my appointment very quickly.Develle called prior to his arrival and left a very polite, professional message. He was very prompt. I would recommend Goode Plumbing.
Description of Work: I had a clogged drain in the powder room sink. I called Goode Plumbing to correct the problem. Thank you very much for the work and the review here on Angie's List. This client had a food waste disposal that would not operate. I as able to retrieve an obstruction and clear things up to get it working again (in this case, someone had dropped some screws into the unit, causing it to jam).

We were happy with the service Goode Plumbing provided. I managed this project for a small condo building. It took time, many emails and calls and meetings to get bids from multiple plumbers but when we went over everything we selected Goode. They didn't have the absolute lowest price but offered a solution that met our requirements and provided a longer term solution than other bidders by using cast iron pipes and not clay. They were willing to address options that other companies brought up to discuss pro's and con's. Mike Goode was always easy to talk to and he was straight forward and easy to understand. He was patient with the smattering of questions that rolled in as our condo owners came up with new questions. Calls were returned promptly, even when they were occupied with other jobs. As for the work, they were prompt, clean and thorough. The guys on the job were universally polite and considerate. They took time to explain to me what they had done and what they were going to do whenever I checked in. They spent extra time and materials to provide more than the minimum solutions, too. For instance, besides using cast iron instead of clay, when removing the grease trap, instead of putting in pipes that made the most direct connection (and thus using the least amount of copper piping), they took it on themselves to put in extra piping that put the pipes out of the way, so the room was more usable. I can't really judge the quality of the buried pipe work, which is why I waited a month to enter this report. So far everything is flowing smooth, the basement looks better than it did before they arrived, and my fellow owners are happy.
Description of Work: Removed grease trap and separately dug up sewer line to remove roots and repair the line.

Thank you very much for rewarding us with the plumbing project at your condo building. As was the case here, we cannot always promise the lowest price-but we do our best to give you the best possible service and quality. The quality of the materials here are backed up by our excellent warranty. In Chicago, it is required that one uses cast iron below grade, within the structure of the building. We agree with this in this situation for durability reasons. This was a two part main drain repair. We did find some additional damage to the drain, which took some extra time to repair properly, so we do appreciate the patience of the residents.

Develle (aka Cadillac), called prior to showing up which was helpful and showed up when he said he would. He was friendly, polite and always had a smile on his face throughout the job. He was willing to show me what the problem was and reassured me that his solution would fix the issue. Once complete, Cadillac showed me the repair and took time to explain what he did. All was tested and he then cleaned up his work area and even took the trash with him. Bottom-line, Cadillac not only is him nickname it is also the way he performs! I would gladly call Goode back if needed and certainly would welcome Develle as the servicing rep. Tom Zullo

I called Mike Goode Plumbing to do a whole house inspection. Mr. Goode and myself inspected the old plumbing and found a couple ofproblem areas. Mr. Goode made repairs to the drain (water running very slow) and replaced a loose water pipe under the tub. Mikle Goode was very professional and knowledgeable about the old brass pipes used for plumbing. I would highly recommend Goode Plumbing.

The whole experience went great. Develle (the plummer) came out on 7/18 to check out the work that had to be done and provide an estimate. He and Ed came on Friday morning to do the job. They did the wall demo, old heater removal, disposal, new heater install, and cleanup in about 7 hours. They explained exactly what was done and why. Very professional. On top of that, Develle and Ed were great guys! I recommend them to everyone who has plumbing problems.

Thank you , Member, for both the work as well as this report. I am glad we were able to assist in the replacement of your water heater. This one was a little tougher than normal due to its location, but we were able to get it done. We also referred the member to another highly rated Angie's List company for drywall repairs. The unit that we installed was a power vented Bradford White, which is efficient and is backed by our full six year parts and labor warranty.

Excellent! Goode Plumbing is a family owned business. There was not one guy we didn't like they all worked well and hard together from start to finish. For seven days they were here from early morning until almost dark each day working with the village and us. They went above and beyond in so many ways. Taking care not to destroy shrubs and grass, making sure that during it all we were inconvenienced as little as possible. Their work was impressive and exceeded Village inspections. Each night they made sure to put up the barriers so no one could get inside the worksite or get hurt. On the last day they power washed our drive and porch. A week later a smaller team came to replace the sidewalk and grass. They left our home better than it was before the work. Mike Goode and his team take great pride in their work and we would recommend them very highly.

Thank you very much for the review as well as the work. This was for a flood control system for a home. Our systems feature all cast iron drain piping within the flood control system, clean outs for rodding, a heavy duty cast iron ejector pump, copper pump discharge piping, and a pre cast enclosure when possible. In this case, we had to remove a walkway section, which we came back to replace after the ground settle for a week or two. We appreciate the business and have to say that this client was just wonderful to deal with. Everyone at Goode Plumbing that worked on this project appreciated the hospitality and the work.

We appreciate the kind words, the work, and the report here on Angie's List. We do a good number of environmentally friendly products-Water Sense products, dual flush toilets, and energy conserving water heaters. In this case, we came to the agreement with this client that a tankless unit made the most sense here. We use our mounting board which makes the installation more solid than using simply the factory supplied units. Our standard valve kit makes maintenance easier. Proper gas supply, venting, and intake are all very important, and we have the experience to make sure that these things are done as they should be. This Member was very nice to work with, and appreciate your allowing us the extra time needed to finish this job correctly.

UPDATE: Mike from Goode Plumbing contacted me as soon as my post on Angie's List appeared. He was very apologetic and explained how Bob may have misunderstood the reason for his visit to my home i.e. inspection v. estimate, which I totally understand and accept. As I said in my prior post, Bob was very professional ( I graded him an "A" in the prior post) and he did, after all, address my water pressure and extractor pump concerns. In no way should my post be construed against Bob's ability or professionalism. Mike also promised a full refund, which I did not expect, and a return visit to complete the inspection - also unexpected! Within 6 hours of our conversation Mike and Bob also provided an estimate of the work needed to correct my water pressure concerns, and an additional offer to check my water heater at no charge. The response by Mike is more than I expected and I would have been happy to just have the estimate and the inspection completed, but Mike's insistence to correct the situation, and go above and beyond what is expected, is consistent with the excellent ratings Goode Plumbing has received on Angie's List. I will be sure to use them for my plumbing needs in the future. OLD POST: Bob showed up on time which was great and his demeanor was very professional. However, he did not seem to know why he was at my house! When he asked what problem I was having, I informed him I had purchased the Whole House Inspection and I was having water pressure problems. Bob inspected the water pressure in the first floor bath and kitchen. He then did the same in my basement bathroom. He inspected the piping from the main and suggested a repipe of the horizontal pipes in the basement. When I asked him if he wanted to "inspect" the 2nd floor bath he replied there was no need. I then asked him to inspect the subpump and he determined the extractor was inoperable and needed to be replaced. He promised an estimate within two days to repipe and replace the extractor pump. To date, he has not provided that estimate. In all, the process took less than 40 minutes.Bod did not check any of the drains in the home, toilets, sinks or showers. He totally neglected the 3rd bathroom and the in-law kitchen. For $179.00 I expected a thorough evaluation of discussion and possible solutions. Once Bob left I called a second plumber in order to get an estimate to compare to Goode's, which was supposed to be emailed to me in two days. The second plumber was thorough and took two hours to inspect the piping, extractor pump and other issues at a cost of $0. This reinforced my dissatisfaction with the Goode inspection. Surely, not a good deal.
Description of Work: I purchased the whole house plumbing inspection. As per Mike at Goode Plumbing, it includes inspecting every drain and faucet in the home, the main water valve, evaluation of repairs needed and price of those repairs needed.

This is NOT the kind of report that I EVER want to see. I take huge pride in customer service, and when, on the very rare occasion, I hear we have not met expectations, it bothers me to no end. The complete home plumbing inspection is something that I have offered for several years, but only recently have been working with my other plumbing techs on. As Members can see from past reports, Bob as well as the rest of our team also have a lot of pride in workmanship and customer service. It is with my sincere apology that we did not do this inspection as it should have been. Our home plumbing inspection, when done as it should be-IS indeed a good deal. We go through every aspect of the plumbing system in the home, starting with the main water shut off valve and going through every accessible valve, fixture, etc. We make a comprehensive list of what we find and make recommendations and price the tasks out, with options when applicable. As we go through the system, we also make small adjustments when we find something-such as water level in a toilet being to high, cleaning aerators in faucets, etc. I do admit that we have been a little backed up with emergency calls due to the recent rains, which may have added to the delay in getting the estimate sent out in a more timely manner. I am going through the correct way to do a proper home plumbing inspection with all of our plumbing technicians again, to ensure that no matter who comes to your home from Goode Plumbing, this is done comprehensively and correctly. I did contact this Member, and offered a him full refund as well as redoing the home plumbing inspection personally and at no cost, which he accepted. I apologize again that this did not go well the first time, but promise that I will do what I can to make it right.

The control/sensor unit on our water heater was not functioning properly, resulting in everyone's favorite--cold showers. You don't realize how much you depend on it, especially with a wife and kids, until it goes out. Mike understands this and does his best to get the household back to normal ASAP. He called me back promptly, and was even able to squeeze me in more or less same day, even with a full slate of appointments. Mike Goode did a great job fxing the water heater. He was prompt, knowledgeable courteous, professional, and an overall good guy. I really appreciate that he was able to get us back up and running so quickly. I would definitely use Goode Plumbing again.

Thank you for the rewarding us with this work. We added a frost resistant hose faucet where there was not one previously. Even though the faucet is, as stated, "frost resistant", we do recommend installing a shut off and drain valve when installing these. One of the most common service calls we get in spring is for replacing frost resistant hose faucets that were damaged from freezing. Shutting off and draining the water is the best way to prevent this from happening.

We discussed the project with Mike on the phone and came away feeling Mike was competent and professional. We purchased the service call through Angie's list which reduced the service call cost from $59.95 to $25.00. Mike further reduced the price using the coupon from Angie's list. Price without discounts would have been $315.75, we paid $235.00. The work was done well and the work area was left clean. Nothing was damaged in the process. A couple of days after the installation, we noticed a slight leak from the old plumbing under our bathroom sink. Mike came out again promptly and repaired the leak. We decided that we would prefer to have the single handle kitchen faucet on the left side rather than the right side as it was installed. Mike switched it around and did not charge us for his time. We are very satisfied with the work Mike performed and my wIfe and I both felt Mike was professional and pleasant. I would feel comfortable recommending Mike Goode Plumbing to family and friends.

We had a previous plumber out to try to clear a stubborn clog in our upstairs shower. The previous plumber tried his best, but couldn't clear the clog. We believe there is a drum trap that prevented the previous plumber from being able to snake the drain. Mike from Goode Plumbing came by and cleared the drain in less than 30 minutes using a specialized tool that he had. After a week, the shower continues to drain like new. Mike also did a nice job of communicating what he was doing and what types of things we could do in the future if we want to fix the drain more permanently.

Thank you for the kind words, Member. As the member mentioned, there was a covered drum type trap under the floor of this bathroom, which would have been nearly impossible to get through using a conventional drain cleaning machine without breaking into the floor. I was able to clear the obstruction using a kinetic tool, thereby keeping the bathroom intact. I also drilled out a screw that someone broke off in the tub overflow and installed a replacement.

We needed servicing on our floor control system installed in front of our house. As new home owners, we of course used Angie's List to find a plumber. We obtained 2 estimates, but Mike from Goode Plumbing offered the best price and explanation of the services we needed, including the model of the new sump pump we would need. He even recommended an electrician to run the electrical to the outdoor flood control/sump pump. When it came to installation, Mike worked around our schedule, completed the work even when we weren't home, and came by again afterward to walk us through his work and future maintenance. We're VERY happy with Mike and Goode Plumbing and would recommend him to all our friends and family.

Thank you very much for the work and the kind words! I visited this Member's home to do an inspection of a flood control system as she had just purchased the home and wanted to make sure things were in good working condition. I found that no electrical power had been run to the system-and that the pump that was installed, was did not work when I ran an extension cord to it for testing. She hired the electrician we recommended-Wilson Electric, who is also rated highly on Angie's List. After Wade from Wilson electric ran electrical power to the flood control system, we installed a new, high quality ejector pump, a new, brass check valve, and added a brass union to make removal and installation of the pump easier in the future. Our new ejector pumps now come with a 3 year parts and labor warranty from us. We certainly appreciate gaining this new customer!

My experience started with a phone conversation with Mike, who helped me with my initial questions on water heaters and the ability to build a safety pan. The safety pan was a big plus since other providers could only offer me the standard tray that would not work in my small utility closet. Normally I would not think twice about the pan but when you live on third floor in a condo with wood floors you have to think of yourself and those below. From there we scheduled a time for Jeff to come over to inspect the actual setup to get a better estimate what it would cost. After the estimate I was happy with what I would be getting for a water heater but I was surprised by the estimate for the custom safety pan (~1/3 of the water heater). In the long run I was impressed by what Mike's team was offering from a product and service perspective but I did want to mention my concerns on the cost of the pan. After a quick conversation, Mike and I came to a more reasonable price for the pan and we scheduled a time for them to install. The day of thel install went really fast with two guys (Jeff and another) working the get the old unit out, tray installed and the new unit situated. After that Jeff finished up the job and explained new unit and safety pan.Overall I'm extremely happy with the finished product and the service team's ability to explain what was done and how to better maintain my investment.

Thank you very much for the work as well as the kind words. As this Member mentioned, we did recommend installing a safety pan since this was on a upper floor, to protect both his unit and those below should the water heater ever leak in the years to come. Due to space constraints, a standard issue water heater safety pan would not fit-we had one custom made for this application. When the member expressed concern over the cost of the pan, I called our vendor for these pans, who agreed to work with us, and our client, on the cost. I am glad that we were able to work something out that was deemed fair to all. The water heater that we installed for this Member is a Bradford White-a high quality product that we back for 6 years on labor to match the manufacture's parts warranty. And of course, our liftetime warranty against defects in our workmanship.

After replacing my water heater, I started getting low pressure and some small leaks due to sediment being dislodged in the pipes and gumming up the faucets/cartridges. I called Goode for an estimate; the estimator, Deville, arrived on time, looked of the issues I had, and made his recommendations. I was expecting to replace the vanity faucet, but he also felt that the kitchen sink faucet should be replaced due to age and degradation. I agreed that I'd be fine with this. He wrote up the estimate in two options: first if Goode supplied the replacement faucets and second if I purchased them at a hardware store and they just did the install. I went with option two. On the day of the job Mike Goode called to say that the plumber assigned to my job had called in sick, and that Mike would be coming instead but that he was running about 30-45min late due to rejuggling the day's work. Mike did show up when he said he would, and I explained the job as it was estimated. He advised that a couple of the water shut off valves were bad and should be replaced, which he did for parts only, I wasn't charged extra labor for those replacements. Overall, I was surprised at the speed at which Mike worked, he knows his stuff and did a great job in a about 3.5hours and fixed all my issues. Both Mike and Deville were courteous and professional throughout. Mike went the extra mile to make sure all his customers where happy on the day that his employee was out sick. I'm a satisfied customer.
Thank you for the review as well as the work. I do apologize for running late. As you mentioned, one of our plumbers called in sick that morning, so I had a bit of rearranging to do. I am happy to say that all of my plumbers stepped up to the plate and worked quite late that day to make sure every customer scheduled was taken care of. We were a little behind on some calls, such as yours, which I never like, so I do appreciate your patience. We also usually like to send the same plumber back to the house he or she did the estimate at or previous work at, but because of the rearranging, Develle was on another job already. I truly appreciate your business. Mike Goode

Plumber Jeff of Goode Plumbing (pronounced goody) came early and replaced kitchen sink pipes which were leaking and bathroom faucet cold water cartridge which was dripping. He had to go to the hardware store to buy supplies but did not charge extra for that. Worked quickly and finished in less than three hours. Price may have been high but can't tell for sure because I didn't check others for their estimates. Overall very satisfied with work performed.

Excellent. Called on Thursday after normal business hours because our sump pump had failed, leaving 3" of rainwater in our basement. Mike took my call and offered to come out at 10pm that evening to perform the work. Our job was not quite that urgent, so I opted for an early morning appointment (6am) the following day. Overnight, the water receded below floor level naturally. Another plumber from Goode (Jeff) arrived a few minutes before 6. He was courteous and friendly. Jeff assessed the situation and after we discussed the matter for a few minutes, he generated a price quote for the work. His price was right about what I expected the job to cost, so he performed the pump replacement, check valve replacement, indoor and outdoor discharge line replacement. We live in a 90 year old house, so projects can get a bit hairy but Jeff handled it without issue. The work was complete in the time he had estimated, and we couldn't be happier. Goode's prompt response and genuine interest in our well-being made what could have been a miserable disaster into a bump in the road. They've earned our business for any future plumbing projects.

Thank you, Member. I was sorry to hear about the issue that you were having when I spoke with you. While we do not advertise after hours or emergency service, we do offer it whenever possible. I am glad we were able to get this situation handled for you in a time that worked with your schedule. The pump that we installed is a very high quality unit and features a two year parts and labor warranty from us.

Thank you, member, for the service call. We removed an obstruction in the toilet trapway and made sure it was clear and that the toilet was working properly, and that the water level in the tank was correct.

On the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, we noticed a gas odor coming from our furnace room. We called the gas company and they detected an ignitable gas leak in two places. Our gas was turned off by the gas company until we could resolve the issue. We immediately referred to Angie's List for a local plumber with good reviews. I called one company and they said they would need to send out 2 technicians, pump up the gas system and determine where the leaks were coming from. We already had determined this information from the gas company and did not feel this was necessary. My second call was to Goode Plumbing. Michael Goode called me back within the hour and I explained our issue and my conversation with the other company. Mr. Goode agreed with our assessment and said he would do his best to get us into his full schedule for the day. Michael called me back within another 2 hours and explained that if they could fit us in on Friday he would call us. Due to his busy schedule, they were not able to complete the work on Friday. Michael called our house at 8pm Friday evening and said he could have a technician out Saturday morning at 9am. Develle, our technician, was extremely professional and quickly assessed the issue. He determined that the gas pipe to the water heater needed replacement. He did not see any reason to fix the 2nd pipe as it was properly sealed/secured. He measured the pipes, acquired the new parts and completed the task in 3 hours. We then called the gas company to come back out to turn on the gas. Develle waited until the gas company arrived to ensure the fix was complete. This was greatly appreciated as there were a few tweaks that needed to happen that was determined between Develle and the gas company technician. All in all it was a great experience. And, Develle ensured we received our 10% Angie's List discount. We are trying to sell our home at this time and we appreciate good, honest service. I would highly recommend using this company.

Thank you, Member, for the words and the work. Because we were booked pretty solidly for both Friday and Saturday, I was unable to promise this member a set time when she called the first time. I did keep her informed as to our schedule, and was able to get one of our plumbing techs there first thing on Saturday morning. We do our best to get emergency situations such as this handled, and am glad things worked out well. We appreciate your business!

We had a mess over Memorial Day weekend when our ejector pump stopped working, which caused a sewage backup in our basement. We called Goode on Sunday night and they had a plumber at our house by 9am on Monday morning (Memorial Day). Develle was the plumber and he could not have been better. He was extremely professional and courteous. He explained the problem and the work that he would do. He replaced the pump and the valve in a couple hours and left the space cleaner than when he started. Most importantly, he made time to do the repair on the holiday because he knew how unpleasant the situation was. Overall, I was extremely happy with Goode's responsiveness and Develle's performance.

Thank you very much, Member. It is never pleasant to have a sewage back up, especially one on a holiday. I am glad that we were able to get out there to help you-I hope you were able to enjoy the rest of Memorial day.The pump that Develle installed is a cast iron Zoeller heavy duty pump, which we back up with a two year parts and labor warranty (which is double the factory warranty-and that warranty covers only parts). He also added a new check valve and anti overheat kit. While not the least expensive pump on the market, this is a quality product that will give you years of reliable service.

I've used Mike and Goode Plumbing on a few occassions now, and I continue to be very happy with the work they do. On this particular occassion, Mike's crew had a job that was running long before mine, and they were not able to start for a couple of days after the original start date. Mike communicated this to me in advance and gave me frequent updates on the status of the previous job, so I knew exactly when I should expect his team to start their work. Mike's policy is to make sure every job is done thoroughly and correctly as opposed to just meeting arbitrary deadlines which I respect. When the work on my job got started, it was like they were never there when my wife and I got home from work each night. The crew cleaned up every day, so our place was still liveable. Mike would update me on how things were going and share any feedback he had as work was being performed in case any new findings came up that we hadn't discussed. The work was done efficiently, and they finished the job in a day less than they originally quoted. Mike has made a couple of follow-up visits for various other things as well. He and his team are consummate professionals, and I wouldn't consider using anyone else in the future. Thanks again for all your help Mike!

Thank you so much for the work and the review. It was a pleasure to work with this Member. Jeff, Ed, and myself handled the work at this member's home and am glad that he is happy with everything. It can be a scary experience to move from one home to another in a new area, especially if that home is older and in need of some work. Overall this home was in good condition but needed some things corrected and upgraded.
