Unfortunately, this is my third plumbing problem in the last few months. Fortunately Mike and his staff are really great plumbers and people. Mike came by on time this morning and took a few seconds to figure out the primary reason for my call, i.e. water leaking under my kitchen sink. While he was there I asked him to check out a slow leak from the faucet in our powder room. Finally, the caulking from my last job with them in my master bath had deteriorated, so he redid that. Aside from the time that Mike needed to go and get new cartridges for the faucet (unavoidable) Mike got everything done quickly and neatly. I'm really happy to have found them on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Replaced the hose that drains the dishwasher and replaced the cartridges in our powder room.

Thank you so much for your review! I've always have a pleasant conversation with this member while working in his home-thank you for being so welcoming. As the client mentioned, he had several issues. I did have to go pick up a pair of cartridges to properly repair one of his sink faucets. I am glad the parts were in stock so that we were able to get everything he needed completed the same day. As always, I appreciate the work.

the drain, probably during construction. It came out on the end of Mike's "snake". Mike then checked and made sure that the drain was clear by running water from the hot water tank into the drain. All in all a very inexpensive fix for what we were afraid would be a major repair. Thank you Mike for your professionalism and the recommendation of a painter/drywall professional to repair our water damage.
Description of Work: We had a water dripping into our hall bath intermittently and talked to the upstairs owner who confirmed that everything was dry up there. Our bath room was under his utility room. Mike Goode arrived right at the specified time. He looked at the damage to our bathroom and said it had to be coming from up stairs. I took him up to that unit (owner had given me permission and the key) and Mike immediately discovered the cause of the dripping. The condensation drain was plugged and would only overflow when that A/C unit was running. Mike rodded out the drain and discovered that a PVC elbow had apparently fallen into

Thank you very much for your review, and for the service call. As the Member has stated, there was a leak coming from one floor and penetrating the ceiling of the unit below. I found the leak was from a drain in the mechanical room near the water heater. It seems that a PVC elbow fitting had dropped down-probably during construction-and fallen into the drain and eventually caused the back up, and subsequent leak into the unit below. I am glad we were able to assess the issue and correct it inexpensively (the actual price was $175.00 after the member used his Angie's List coupon. The $17,500 above is a typographical error-it would be nice if that were the going rate for this type of work, but we have to draw the line somewhere!)

Provider came to evaluate my hot water heater. They determined the hot water heater needed to be replaced and provided an estimate that was at least double what another competitor would offer. I got the water heater replaced to discover after the fact that it did not need to be replaced, there was a water leak NEAR the hot water heater.

This is most definitely NOT the kind of review that I, nor any of my employees want (obviously). I spoke to the Member after seeing this review, to learn a little more about what happened. I would agree that there was an error made by one of my plumbers. All of my plumbers are well trained, with a lot of experience, and we all take a lot of pride in honesty, integrity, and making a correct assessment. In this particular case, my plumber was dealing with a person that was not the homeowner, but rather someone watching the house. The Member called because he believed he had a leaking water heater due to water under and around that unit. My plumber looked at it, agreed, and gave him a quote. Regarding the cost, I feel that our water heaters are priced very competitively for what they are-a high quality brand, the only storage type water heater brand still made in the USA, one that we back up with a fantastic warranty, and include fittings to prevent corrosion and ease servicing that the vast majority of our competitors do not offer. I am not sure of the brand of installation quality that the Member received, but I will say that if it was truly half the cost, I am very confident the brand and installation are not on the same level as ours. Just as different makes and models of cars are different prices, so are water heaters. Having said that, it does sound like the issue was something other than the water heater. The Member had the water heater replaced by another company, but the leak remained, and turned out to be a drain issue. For this I have to apologize-our plumbers, including me-all take finding the true cause to a problem very seriously. If we had been the company to install the water heater, and the problem with the leak remained, I would have definitely made good on this error. I do appreciate the homeowner taking the time not only to call us and schedule an appointment initially, but for explaining what happened. We have meetings every day at 7 am to stay on top of new products, issues in the field, and general questions and discussions regarding plumbing and our customers, and this will be discussed in detail so that we do our best to avoid it happenening again.

Thank you for your review. I agree that our quote for water heaters may not always be the lowest, but I am confident it is still an excellent value for what we provide. Our standard, residential storage water heaters are made by Bradford White-the only one still made here in the USA. These are built up to a high standard rather than down to a price. We believe in that quality enough to back up Bradford White's 6 year parts warranty, with our full 6 year labor coverage also! In addition, we use a series of brass fittings rather than the much more common dielectric fittings at the water connections to and from the tank, for superior protection against electrolysis corrosion. We also replace the factory supplied drain valve, which has a very small opening, with a full port drain valve-which allows much more complete sediment removal during maintenance flushing. I truly appreciate your considering us, and hope that we may be of service to you with a future plumbing issue or project should the need arise.

Bob was able to come earlier than the appointment time, which was better for my schedule. I'd been having extremely low water pressure, and so I talked through some of my theories, and Bob listened and explained clearly what he wanted to investigate. He had several good ideas, and I appreciated his patience and problem-solving skills. In the process, we discovered that my sewer was backed up, and he was able to immediately power-rod the line from my outside cleanout for $295. I was also interested in quotes for a new water heater, and Bob took the time to really inspect my current water heater: he took off the access panels to the combustion chamber and showed me that everything looked fairly good considering the age of the heater. I can't thank him enough for putting me at ease because my water heater has a couple more years in it after all. I'll definitely call Goode and ask for Bob when it's time to replace it. Bob also followed up by email with information on a pressure booster pump. Fortunately, my pressure problems were resolved when the city fixed my leaking buffalo box/valve.

Thank you for the service call, and for writing this review. This Member had almost no water pressure in her master shower, which included body sprays as well as a shower head. I found deposits in the thermostatic cartridge and check valves, which I cleaned and reinstalled after flushing the lines out. These deposits came from sediment in the water heaters, which is why I recommended flushing them (when we do a water heater maintenance, we change the drain valves to a full port valve which allows more complete sediment removal).

1) I wanted to install a backup ejector pump with a battery backup. I didn't realize how expensive batteries were for ejector pumps (which is different than a sump pump). 2) Spoke with plumber from Goode Plumbing. In retrospect, I think we were confusing ejector pumps and sump pumps. He gave me an estimate just about $3000. 3) I spoke with Mr. Goode, who offered to work on the price. He came back with a lower estimate and I agreed to the work. I had to leave town for a few weeks, but scheduled the appointment while I was gone, as someone was going to be in the apartment while I was gone. 4) When I came back I checked out the work. Only a battery backup had been installed. No backup pump. 5) I spoke with Mr. Goode, and explained to him what I had wanted. He set up another appointment. 6) Mr. Goode came and installed the backup pump. When all was said and done, the final price was in between the 2 estimates - at about $2800 including tax. He threw in a bunch of labor to rectify the confusion. There are some things that I should've done differently. I should've scheduled the work while I was there personally. I should have expressed my expectation when receiving the second estimate. The first plumber I spoke with at Goode, however, was not responsive to what I was wanting. For his part, Mr. Goode was good about rectifying the situation after everything was cleared up. Goode Plumbing remains my plumber of choice. This project, as it turned out, is an expensive one because the part is so expensive.

Thank you for your review. I do apologize for any confusion on our end. We do our best to explain things to our clients who are not able to meet us, but as the Member mentioned, sometimes things can be a little confusing. Most sump pump back up systems do indeed come with a back up pump, as well as battery power. There are not many options for ejector pump back up systems, and those that are designed for an existing ejector pump basin, do not come with a back up pump, but rather, is a power inverter that provides battery assistance in the event of a power failure. I thought it was explained well, but since there was some misunderstanding, I felt it best to take care of the client and assist with the installation of a back up ejector pump as well. This is not always feasible-often times, the ejector pump basin is simply not large enough to reliably accept both pumps. I am glad that this one worked out, and appreciate the review and the work.

Hello, after seeing your review, I looked through our records and cannot find you in them. I wonder if it is possible for you to have mixed us up with another plumbing company, who has an all to similar name to my last name, which is also my company's name! While it is possible, the type of service you received is not the kind that I would accept from one of my plumbers-and the services you mentioned that you needed are things we do almost daily. If you are certain it was us, please call me any time on (773) 407-1884 as I take each and every issue very seriously! However, I did check my phone records, my email records, our invoice records, our computer file with client names, and even GPS where my trucks were on and around the date you listed, and came up with nothing related to your name or address at all. Bob and Ernie removed our old 75 gallon water heater and replaced it with a new 60 gallon Bradford White model. They carted the bulky, heavy units up and down our right-angle stairs to the basement and through the doors without a scratch. They worked carefully and efficiently, and cleaned up after the job. Before the installation, Bob, Mike and Judy helped us pick the Bradford White water heater model that was best for us. I would definitely recommend them.

Mike showed that he really cared about doing things right. He was not in a rush, he was not looking to cut corners to get out as quickly as possible. He explained everything he was doing while replacing the cartridge and trim, and even offered to go above and beyond. He ended up making a special trip to a hardware store to get something to secure an unsecured shower pipe that wobbled around when you adjusted the shower head. It wasn't what I called about, but it was a nice bonus to get that taken care of. He takes the time to diligently clean the tile before installing something new. I certainly will call them for future needs.

Thank you very much for the work and this review! It was very pleasant to work for this Member. I installed a new cartridge in his shower valve, and installed new trim work which he supplied. I noticed that the plumber that installed the piping behind the wall did not secure that pipe that supplied the shower head, so it moved around quite a bit whenever the showerhead was adjusted. I purchased a bracket clamp to prevent this from happening. Everything was caulked properly and tested.

It took 2 weeks before they had opening to investigate a water leakage. My father-in-law and I already cut a hole in the drywall to isolate where the water was coming from. The plumber had trouble seeing exactly where the water was coming from. He wanted to cut a hole in a foyer wall to see the plumbing stack from behind. It took nearly 15 minutes of me convincing him that the plumbing stack was not located there before he was convinced that I was correct. Instead he ended up cutting a 5 inch hole in the ceiling directly next to the whole we already made before he ?could see it?. He charged me $150.00 for the quote because he had to cut a hole. He told me that the only way the plumbing stack could get fixed was by cutting the entire thing out and replacing it with another cast iron piece. I asked if it could be replaced with PVC and he said there was no way. The ridiculous quote I received was $2200.00 and it would take another week before they could get back and fix it. I called AHS Plumbing later that morning and Dan came out within an hour. He said it could be replaced with PVC and that it would be done that day for only $955.00. It has been over a month since AHS fixed the problem and absolutely no issues. Goode Plumbing charged $150.00 for the quote and was $1245.00 more expensive than AHS Plumbing.

I am sorry that you were not happy with us, member. As you can see from our hundreds of excellent reviews, I take a lot of pride in our work as do the plumbers and receptionist that work here. I take any issue that a customer has very seriously. If it is something that I feel we have not done properly, I am the first to admit it and will bend over backwards to make up for it. I will be honest in saying that in this particular case, I do not agree with the review, and will explain why. The plumber that visited this member's home has been with Goode Plumbing for several years. He is very professional and cares about his customers and our company. He went out, and the member's husband and father were home to let him in. They had indeed already cut a hole for access, where my plumber said they could all see water leaking. But what they could not see from this hole was the SOURCE of where the water originated. The member did try to tell my plumber his thoughts, which were listened to. However, please understand that this is what we do every day and we need to go through a process of checking and measuring and making sure of things, rather than just start making holes in walls and ceilings hoping things work out. This is because we, again, care to do things right. My plumber did check and measure and test things-and opened up the area where the leak was and located the source, which was a section of stack and related piping. This is what the $150 was for-my plumber's knowledge, labor, and time. Them member had a cast iron stack and iron piping. The quote that my plumber gave to the member was to replace a section of the stack using similar materials, because in the middle of a stack run, this is REQUIRED BY CODE. The other plumber, with all due respect, replaced a section of a stack in the middle of a run using PVC. I have seen inspectors come out on jobs like this and require that either A) The remaining stack going all t he way through the roof be replaced using PVC or B) That the newly installed PVC be removed, and replaced with Cast Iron. While I do not disagree that what the other plumber did may be functional and less expensive initially than our suggestion of doing things properly and to code, if you do get an inspector in there, be it for your inspection if you pulled a permit as required by law, or if you someday sell the home, the cost of redoing a handyman type repair will surely exceed that of the cost of doing things properly the first time. In terms of the report card grades, I would like to run through them with you. PRICE-F. We were more expensive that the other plumber you used. But the work was not the same. Ours was quoted for a job done to code. You would need to get a quote from him for doing the work to code as we did to truly compare pricing. Just as all makes and models of cars do not cost the same, different work varies in price. QUALITY-C. No actual repair work was done, so not sure how we got any grade here. My plumber did, however, properly located and diagnose a problem while keeping damage to you home to a minimum, so don't we deserve an "A" here? RESPONSIVENESS-C : I see that you had to wait two weeks for someone to come out. I agree this is a long time to wait, and unusual for us. I appreciate the fact that you were willing to wait that long for us. I am assuming that the rating is for this time, because we did respond to your initial call quickly. PUNCTUALITY B: My plumber arrived on time according to my records here, so again, I am not certain as to why we got less than an A here. PROFESSIONALISM C : Honestly not sure why we received a C here. Our receptionist took your call quickly. She was up front about the schedule and set up a time with you that you agreed upon. My plumber took the time to properly and carefully assess your problem. He was neat and clean and gave you an accurate price on doing work to code. I really do appreciate your having us over. And if I felt that anyone at our company had done something improper, I would own up to it. I honestly think that in this case, the member should have researched things a bit more and compared work that is done properly to work that, while less expensive, may end up being a headache and higher cost in the long term either during inspection or home sale time.

Thank you very much for the service call. I am glad that things went well. We use 17 gauge P traps and other under sink drain parts for this type of work, which is considerably longer lasting than the much more commonly found thinner grade metals that we see all too often. The technician, Develle, arrived promptly, quickly assessed the problem, and made sure I understood and agreed to the verbal price quote. The appointment was a little longer than I expected, as he had to go to Home Depot to obtain a new handle (the handle he had with him didn't work for my toilet). He retrieved it and was back well within the time he said he said he would be. Throughout the appointment he was very courteous and friendly, and extended the 10% off coupon offer because I cited Angie's List, although I didn't have a copy of the actual coupon with me. I was very pleased and the toilet is working perfectly! The two-year warranty is a plus, too.

Thank you for rewarding us with this service call, and thank you for writing this review. We try to stock a variety of parts for common fixtures, but did have to make a run for the particular brand that you had. We appreciate your patience. You mentioned our minimum two year warranty on items sold, endorsed, and sold by us. The minimum warranty required by law is one year, which I felt should be doubled since we believe in the products that we carry. Thank you once again for the work!

We can't say enough positive about our experience with Goode Plumbing, particularly Jeff and his crew. Jeff answered all questions from the numerous uninformed (at least five of us) and also to informed phone calls coming from my construction superintendent brother from CA. He actually was the whole family's "plumbing therapist" as he had to lead us in the correct direction to replace the kitchen pipes which greatly increased water pressure and was the correct thing to do since the kitchen was being remodeled. All work done was very neat and professional and as scheduled. We will be calling Goode again and you should to if they serve your area. Mike, you better tie Jeff up as he is a major part of the business. Let me say just a word about price; Goode is certainly competitive. But they may not be the cheapest estimate but they are the best! Entire experience with office contacts and everyone was great.
Description of Work: Cleaned out and replaced ejector pit and pump. Installed copper pipes to kitchen sink. Replaced two toilets and two bathroom faucets. Cleaned out main sewer line. Cleaned out flue vent from roof. Fixed safety and servicing issue on hot water heater. Hooked up and installed refrigerator, gas stove, kitchen sink, and garbage disposal. Removed standing pipes in washer/dryer area and re-piped utility drain and added vent to existing vent.

Thank you very much for this very nice review, as well as rewarding us with the work! All of us do our very best to keep our clients happy in every way that we can. Jeff has been with us for quite some time and most definitely is a big asset. He takes a lot of pride in his work and in doing right by both our company and our customers. He is truly a rare find in both his abilities as a plumber and his personal character. Again, thank you very much for the work as well as your review. Mike Goode, Goode Plumbing

They were good. I like them, they are very professional, and they seem to know what they are doing. They haven't finished the stack issue yet, and so if they run into any problems, the charges may be more.
Description of Work: I am dealing with Goode Plumbing LLC right now. They are replacing a stack that has a leak. They worked on my heaters in the past.

Thank you very much for your review, Member! We have done a few service calls for this member. Previously we have completed repairs to some hybrid water heaters for him. This call was to replace a section of leaking toilet stack and fittings with new materials to eliminate a leak. I appreciate the loyalty and look forward to working with this Member in the future.

Thank you, Member, for having us over to complete this service call for you. I truly appreciate the work, as do all of us here at Goode Plumbing. You mentioned our clean up, and we take that as seriously as the repair work itself. Thank you very much for also taking the time to post a review up here!

Thank you, Member. We installed a high quality flood control system in the front yard of this Member's home to prevent sewage water from backing up into the basement during heavy rains. Our flood control system is a design that has proven to be very reliable. I have been working on flood control installations for twenty years, and have implemented improvements over the years to make the original design even better. I am confident that you will have a nice, dry basement that you can enjoy without the fear of a sewage back up caused by heavy rains. Thank you for rewarding us with your project, and for writing this review.

Develle Wilson gave a courtesy call about 10 minuets prior to getting to my house and arrived within the 8-8:30 times slot I was given. He was very nice and thoroughly explained to me what was wrong and what he needed to do to fix it. It turned out to be a bigger job than I (and I think he) expected. Turns out a terrible contractor I used to retile my bathroom, and had to remove my vanity to do so, put the faucet back together in a terrible fashion. Didn't seal or lubricate anything. Two or three years later, parts were completely rusted together. That was the last time I used a contractor not from Angie's List! Anyway, it ended up taking Develle about 4 1/2 hours, including time he need to go get parts and attempt to salvage my cartriges (to no avail). Everything looks and works perfect now, and Goode gives a two year warranty on parts and labor. I am quite satisfied. I really don't have any way to gauge whether the pricing was good, but for a job of this length it seems reasonable.

Mike and his crew completed the job in one day. They were friendly and professional. Mike is very personable and skilled at his craft. They cleaned up after themselves and protected the work area from any damage. We will use Goode Plumbing again.
Description of Work: Mike and his crew remove our old tub and installed a new one. He also lowered a waste pipe under the kitchen sink and reconfigured the plumbing under the sink so the dishwasher and garbage disposal all drained properly. He added a cleanout trap also.

Thank you so much for this review, Member! We removed a cast iron bath tub for this client. We also picked up a new cast iron bath tub that this Member purchased, delivered and installed it. We supplied a high quality, brass drain kit and installed that as well. The kitchen sink that was in this Member's home was deeper than the original, and the installer had not done the best job regarding the drain work. We redesigned things under the sink, so that everything is flowing as it should. We appreciate your having us do the work for you, and am glad that you are happy with us!
