We initially contacted Goode Plumbing because the valve and hard piping to our dishwasher was clogged. Several of the shutoff valve handles had broken off and needed to be replaced as well. Our existing pipe was galvanized, which tends to corrode. When George arrived he listened to the issues we saw and after a look around under the sink, he was able to give us an initial estimate for the work. All of the units of our building are served by one main shut-off in the basement. George was able to replace our under sink shut-offs within 30 minutes, which helped to ensure our neighbors where not without water for long. He also noticed that the aerator for our sink was missing and had a replacement on hand. When the work was complete, we tested the dishwasher and it worked perfectly. George replaced the old galvanized pipe with new copper and provided new shut-off valves for the sink and dishwasher. He kept his work area clean and was very professional.

Thank you for the work as well as the review here on Angie's List. George has been with us for some time, and fits our team well-he is very careful and really wants his work to turn out great. I am glad that he did a great job for you. The valves that he installed were quarter turn units, with brass internal construction-much better than the plastic valves that we see all too often.

We had a broken pipe at our house during the -40 windchill/-16 at night on 1/6 that was inside our instant water heater. Goode Plumbing identified the main issue with the broken instant hot water heater and said that the exhaust system was the problem. Goode said that the manufacturer should cover the replacement since installation was done properly and just failed during the extreme temperatures. Goode refuted several "no" responses from the manufacturer and successfully got the manufacturer to cover the replacement equipment. We only paid for the cost of the initial call during the frigid weather and then the installation after the manufacturer sent the replacement. Not only did Goode Plumbing really know their stuff, but they were incredibly helpful in lowering the replacement costs by directly dealing with the manufacturer.

Thank you for the words and for making time to write this review. Normally, there is no warranty against damage caused by freezing-which we have seen a LOT of this winter, to say the least. However, this particular water heater-which was not installed by us originally-was supposed to have a protection against this. Because of this, we felt the manufacturer should stand by the claim that this feature would protect the unit from freezing temperature. Eventually, we were able to get them to send the client a replacement unit under warranty. We installed the new unit, making a few improvements over the original installation.

Thank you for the review. As mentioned, my plumber, Jeff, and his assistant, Donny, removed an old water heater and replaced it with a new, high quality Bradford White unit. This was indeed in a very tricky location, so it took quite a bit of time to get it in properly. We appreciate your having us out to install this water heater, which is backed by our 6year parts and labor warranty.

I am now a loyal client! If we need a plumber going forward, Goode is going to be my one and only call. Mike came over on time and was honest with the assessment. He actually did not charge me for the service call which was super nice. I really appreciated it and will definitely use Goode again. THANK YOU!

Service was great. Bob from Goode was friendly and professional and attentive. He arrived in the scheduled window, assessed what we needed done, then went to his truck and got all the parts and tools he needed. He swapped out the broken sink and replaced all the drain pipes quickly and then replaced all the drain lines on the 2nd sink as well. Service was about and hour and 20 minutes for both sinks and him to be out the door. No complaints, the ladies who scheduled the appointment were friendly and professional as well, and got us scheduled as soon as they had an opening. The $311 certainly was more than I would have like to pay (since I could have just done it myself, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of it). But for good work, done right, I think it was a fair price.

Thank you, member, for taking the time to write a review about us here. I also appreciate your having us out to do this work for you. Bob, the plumber who completed the work for you, has been doing plumbing for about 30 years, and is a skilled technician. Of course, doing something yourself may be less expensive than hiring a company to do it for you (although sometimes it doesn't work out that way if things don't go well), but keep in mind that as a business we have to charge a certain amount to cover the costs of being in business and paying our plumbers a fair wage. Also, this way, the workmanship has a warranty on it, which is always nice to have to rely on.

Wow! This company saved our Thanksgiving! We were hosting 15 people and of course the sink stars backing up the night before. We called at 9pm and someone was out by 10:30pm--it took a few hours to fix -- they were lifesavers! What was most impressive is that they accomodated us even though they were working another, very involved job -- they worked it out so they could help us. I am SO thankful -- of course we had to pay a little extra for emergency hours but it was better than others I had seen. HIGHLY recommend!!!

Thank you very much for the review as well as the work. It seems that serious plumbing issues always creep up at the worst of time-a broken pipe at 1 am, or a clogged up sink the night before a house full of guests on Thanksgiving. I am glad that I was able to get the sink in this case working again. We don't advertise 24 hour service, but do our very best to provide it, and typically keep it in mind around holidays and unusual weather that we may need to put some extra effort into working a bit later than normal.

I appreciate your having us out to service your tankless water heater. In this case, the homeowner had a Rheem unit that was installed some time ago by a different plumber, who did a nice job with his or her work.. This was a standard maintenance, including descaling the heat exchanger and cleaning the water inlet filter, This unit need a bit more cleaning that normal, perhaps because of recent city water main replacement on her block. Thank you very much for your review! One of our plumbers, Develle, replaced old galvanized water supply lines in the laundry room with new, Type L hard drawn copper tube. He installed brass fittings where he connected to existing galvanized fittings-we have found this to be much better in terms keeping corrosion at bay compared to the much more commonly found dielectric union fittings. I am very happy that you were pleased with the work and service.

If I recall, I was disappointed because something wasn't set right with the flush mechanism and it caused some problem - running or something and I had to call the plumber back. He came promptly and made the adjustment and all was well but I didn't think I should have had to ask for the extra visit. And I thought it was a little expensive at the time although I know plumbers are expensive generally and I had no basis for comparison.

Response from Goode Plumbing
Thank you for having us out to complete the toilet repair. I am sorry that we had to come back to make the adjustment-we check our work when we are done, usually repeatedly, but once in a while we get a flapper that stops seating properly, so something similar. In terms of pricing, I can't say with any honesty that we are the least expensive plumbing company in town. Our high quality standards, and general costs of running a completely legitimate (taxes, insurance, bonding, workmans compensation, etc) business, don't allow it. However, I think if you were to compare our quality and customer care to other companies, we are a fantastic value! You are correct, professional plumbers in general, are not inexpensive (I admit it, I cringe when I have an electrician or heating/air condition professional in my own home for a repair), but comparatively speaking we are quite good. Again, I appreciate your service call, as well as your taking the time to write this review.

Amazing. Everything has been said - they are prompt, nice, reliable, knowledgeable and everything good you ever wanted. I've talked to Goode several times on other issues and they always talked me through things that I could do myself and thus, never had to come out. This was a burst pipe and they were willing to come out at 2am, but instead talked me through the situation, got things under control and saved me an emergency charge by coming out in the morning. They quickly located the burst pipe and fixed it. They explained everything (multiple times) answered every question I had, gave me lots of advice and suggestions on how to deal with future issues and were generally awesome. They are the best contractor (not just plumber) I've dealt with. Everything you want and need and are ridiculously nice to boot.

Thank you so much! The insanely cold weather last week had us out some very long hours. Even though we do not advertise 24 hour service, I do my best to provide it, especially with the cold snap we had on Monday-Tuesday. I called several highly rated plumbers from AngiesList and they all told me they were booked up. Might have had something to do with the fact that it was the coldest day of the winter (-40 wind chill). Goode was actually my first choice based on the reviews but they were also officially booked for the day. But they called me back and said that Mike, the owner, was going to come take a look. He was great. Super professional and knowledgable. Not only did he take care of the flood, to get his equipment in from the street he had to shovel a path up the sidewalk to our house! (Did I mention it was -40 with the wind chill?) Super impressed. I'll be calling Goode again in the future.

Thank you so much for this review. As the member stated, we were pretty booked for the day, but I ended up getting a gap in my schedule as I finished one job earlier. My receptionist mentioned that a very nice family called and could use nothing in their house, as sewage would back up in their basement whenever they tried to. This was on the coldest day of the year, but luckily, right before we started getting a huge volume of calls due to frozen and broken pipes. I made it over, and found the main drain was obstructed. I rodded the line to get things flowing well, and made several additional passes to make sure the line was clean.

This company really takes their reputation seriously and I will definitely use them again for future plumbing needs.A workman came and spent a few hours fixing the problem. When he left, everything seemed to be in good working order. Unfortunately the problem returned again within a few days. We called Goode's back and they promptly sent the workman back with a second plumber and they both spent several hours basically re-piping everything. Even though the second job took much longer than the first, we were not charged any balance.

I have used Goode Plumbing in the past and was very pleased with their speed and quality of their service so when our shower wouldn't drain, they were the first and only company we called. Initially they said they were booked all day but were able to squeeze me in early in the day. Michael arrived within the time frame that was provided and immediately started trouble shooting the problem in our shower. The issue ended up being more complicated than a simple clog as he believes water actually froze inside the pipes which made it impossible for the shower to drain. Eventually, after using three different, heavy duty tools and running extremely hot water from our adjacent tub, he was able to clear what was assumed as ice. Unfortunately, if it was ice, there is no way to fully prevent this from happening again but there are a few preventative measures that he recommended we take during extremely cold days. Michael was here between 1.5-2 hours and the cost (with my Angies List discount) was a little under $300. Considering there were no new parts installed, the cost seemed a bit high; however, I was appreciative of the timely response and solution to the issue.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, as well as for calling us again for your plumbing needs. I was called to this job for a shower that would not drain. All of the other fixtures in the bathroom were draining well, so I figured it was a simple shower drain rodding. I could not get the first machine to open the line as I could not get very far down the line with it. After doing some investigating, I felt that there was a possibility that this drain, which was made of copper, could be frozen. There was an access panel for the bathtub, which was located very close to the shower. I removed the panel and felt very cold air blowing in very close to the shower drain. By getting a connecting pipe hot with hot water running through the tub, I was able to get some heat transfer to the shower drain. Between that and rodding with a larger machine, I was able to get the line open. I also advised the client to keep the panel off to try to get some room heat into the area where the drain was. Unfortunately, it seems that the builder of the home did not well insulate the walls around this bathroom and the drains, which were located near an exterior wall. Regarding the price, I do agree that while not inexpensive (professional plumbers seldom are!), for the work, it was very fair-while no parts were used, it did required specialized rodding equipment, for which plumbers do typically charge a little more for than if we were doing a repair requiring simple hand tools.

Given burst pipes all over the city Mike was able to get to our building at 9AM Sunday morning. This compares to responses from other plumbers that they couldn't be out for another 3-4 days. Mike understood the importance and came out after a couple hours of sleep to take care of our situation. He arrived on time, was professional, and quickly assessed the situation. After troubleshooting he identified the problem to be a leaking faucet in the unit above - the faucet was running for 48 hours at the recommendation of the prior plumber to prevent further freeze. Mike gave an honest evaluation, resolved the issue, and charged us only for the emergency call.
Description of Work: Goode Plumbing (Mike) assessed what we believed to a 2nd burst pipe over a 2 day period in a small 3 unit condo building. The kitchen ceiling was leaking in one the units - this following a repair to a burst pipe 48 hours prior in another area of the building. The call was an emergency call placed on a Saturday night at 10:00 PM.

Thank you very much for this review. I got to the job as soon as I could-as the Member has mentioned, we were pretty backed up the night before with frozen and broken pipe issues, but I was able to meet him and see what went on. It turns out that the issue here was unrelated to frozen piping-although they did have a frozen pipe issue in a common area of the building, which I made recommendations on how to prevent that from happening again. We have done work for this client previously, and appreciate the patience and loyalty. I am also glad that there was relatively minor damage caused by the leak.

Thank you very much for having me over to help with this service call. The issues here were two obstructed sinks-a bathroom and a kitchen. Normally, in an older home such as this one, the two are unrelated. Some remodeling had occurred at some point in this home's past, and these fixtures had been tied in together, even though they were relatively far apart. They had been connected in an unusual manner, so it took some investigating to find out just how this had been done, so that I could use a drain cleaning machine to get the line open. Everything went well, the owner was very pleasant to work for as well. I also appreciate your taking the time to write this review!

His office was friendly and very responsive. He squeezed me in on a busy day. I did not know there was a burst pipe, I only knew there were some odd noises coming from various parts of my home and they all sounded like Niagara Falls. He came and he worked under some pretty unpleasant conditions for several hours. He explained that water in the pipes in the extreme weather we have had is creating a lot of burst pipes, so he not only made the needed repairs, but he also put in a user friendly configuration and a drain so that I can easily prevent this from happening again. I really enjoy dealing with the people from Goode Plumbing. I recommend them to friends and relatives. I wish Mike had other craftsmen working for him that provide other services. With his high standards, I would hire him to remodel, paint, do electrical work, etc.

Thank you SO much for your very kind words here, as well as for your loyalty and trust in us. This member has had us in her home for several other repairs and projects. As already mentioned by the member, she heard a rushing water sound. Based on the weather we have had recently, I figured on the phone that it was a burst pipe, caused from freezing and then thawing. When I arrived, the member had already been able to shut the water off about 90 percent. Her shut off valve for this section of piping was very old and was not working completely, so I replaced the valve as well as several sections of water supply piping that had split due to freezing. This was to an outside hose faucet, so I installed a separate shut off and drain valve so that she can prevent this from happening in the winter.

Mike the plumber was very quick to respond to my initial inquiry. We set up a date and time by text message of when he could come out to take a look. When Mike got to my place he was very kind, courteous and mindful of keeping things clean (took off his shoes, brought his own mat, brought his own cleaning supplies). He began to investigate the problem with using his high powered cleaning tools. When that didnt work he needed to cut into the pipe. Once in, he found the source of the problem right away. After the pipes were unclogged he then cleaned the rest to remove any and all grease build up there may have been. Mike then installed a new pipe to replace the one he cut. When doing this he took additional measures to ensure that if the pipe was clogged ever again, he nor any other plumber wouldn't need to be called to take care of it. I really appreciated that! When Mike was done he cleaned everything up with his own cleaning solution and left the place better than what he found it. I was very nervous calling a plumber as in the past (before becoming an Angie's List Member) I have been left feeling like I was ripped off. Mike did not make me feel that way at all. He was very trusting, honest and up front. If I ever run into a plumbing issue again, Goode Plumbing will be the people I call to fix the problem (And I will specifically ask for Mike). Thanks Guys!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about us on Angie's List! This Member called me on a Sunday, and I set up an appointment that worked with his schedule. This was a little tougher job than normal. A lot of plumbers, from what I hear, shy away from older buildings, but my opinion is that some of the newer construction-say, the last 15 years or so, can be more difficult to service. It seems that a lot of the plumbing that was installed on some of these properties was installed with not much thought on future issues-such as this sink clog. I had to cut into a section of pipe due to the design of the drain work and the fact that the original plumber left no way to clean the pipe out. I added a clean out and a removable section for easy future rodding, should the need arise. I rodded the drain using a sectional Ridgid drain cleaning machine, reinstalled everything, and tested. I left the site clean after making sure the sink drained properly and did not leak. Thank you very much for the kind words, as well as allowing me to be of service to you. Mike Goode

Had a slight bit of trouble scheduling at first, however once I called instead of emailing we managed to get a date and time set up. Mike called me the morning of our appointment to let me know he was on his way but running a few minutes late, which was fine with me as I was working from home all day. Mike arrived, was professional, polite, cleanly dressed, removed his boots, and went right to work. Within the hour he had the problem solved. I asked him to take a look at a couple of water heaters in the building for routine replacement as they were getting older. He gave me some tips on the hookups they had, we discussed various different options, and he asked if he could email me a quote later which is great. He very kindly knocked some money off his bill because we had had those scheduling issues and he was running a little behind. That was very unexpected but I appreciated the goodwill gesture. I especially like the guarantee the work comes with!

Thank you so much for the work and this review. I was running a little behind that morning, and appreciate this Member's patience. I was able to repair the leak from the toilet, which turned out to be a breached wax ring under the bowl. I also adjusted the water level in the tank properly. We did go over some water heater questions, as well, as mentioned by the Member.

I had used Goode Plumbing several years ago and was very satisfied with the work which is why I called them this time. I basically had the same problem of bad water pressure in my shower plus a few other things. On Dec 2 I got on their web site and left my name and number to be contacted ASAP. I waited all day and received no reply. The next day I called on the phone and spoke to a lady who said she'd have someone call me about coming out. Several hours later a man called and said the reason no one had called me back the day before was because of a mix up with the phone number which I very much doubted. | I explained that my problem involved a pipe leak in the basement, a leak under my kitchen sink and a problem with the water pressure in my bathroom shower which was my #1 concern. I was told that they could not send someone out until the following week on Dec 10th between 11 & 1 PM. I agreed and scheduled the appointment. On that day I waited until 12:45 pm then decided to call to confirm that someone was actually coming out. The woman who answered the phone sounded like she had no idea about my appointment, said she'd check and call me right back. She did not. At 1:10 pm the phone rang and it was the plumber telling me that he was parked around the corner (I have a driveway) and that he'd be at the house in 5 minutes. Twenty minutes later he rang the doorbell. |I showed the plumber the leaky pipe in the basement and he said that it was behind the wall which would require that a hole in the wall behind the downstairs bathroom to be made. Since the dripping was not that bad I told him I'd wait on that. I then showed him the upstairs bathtub and how bad the water pressure was. The water coming out of the faucet and shower head was very slow and minimal. He said that he would have to go back to the shop on Elston Ave. to get the supplies he needed. Over an hour later he returned, did some work and then said he'd have to go back once again to get something else. Upon returning for the second time he did some more work then asked me to come upstairs to look at how the water was running. I told him it was running basically the same. He told me that there was nothing more he could do, that it was the water lines and riser to the shower that would have to be replaced in order to get decent water pressure. By this time it was getting pretty late in the day but I asked if he had time to take care of the drip under my kitchen sink which he did with no problem. He then went out to his truck to write up the bill and estimate for the replacement of the water lines and riser which took another 20 minutes. | |The bills Diagnosis/Solution showed a replaced posi-temp in the shower and a replaced washer under the sink which I had supplied. I was charged $125 for the labor on washer replacement and $315 for the replaced Posi-temp which I have no idea what that was for. I was given a 10% discount with my coupon from Angies List so less the discount I ended paying $391. And I still had my #1 problem. | |From the time the plumber actually arrived at the house at 1:30 pm to begin work and with the 2 times he had to leave to get more supplies, he never finished until after 6 pm. |The next day I called another plumber from Angie's List to come out to see about the water pressure. The following morning he showed up on time, removed the panel off the wall behind the back of the shower, tapped the pipes a few times and I had a full spray in my shower!! I was just charged $95. Needless to say, I will be using this plumbing service to replace my pipes, not Goode.

I am very sorry to see a review like this. We are a relatively small shop, and I take it to heart when we have let someone down. We all want nothing but great results for every customer. I will say that we did have a change in receptionists recently. While our new receptionist was in training, we relied on our answering service, which admittedly did cause some delays and issues. We have our new receptionist, Carrie, in place, now. She answers our phones during normal business hours, so our response time is back to normal now. I do apologize also for your dissatisfaction. I have talked very seriously with our technician about all of the issues that you mentioned. As humans, we are not always perfect, try as we may, and I do apologize if he did not bring you the results you desired. The issue here was the water supply piping to much of the house was very old, galvanized piping, including to the tub/shower that he was working on. He did attempt to flush the valve body out. He could have tried tapping on the piping with a hammer with the valve apart and the water on-this is an old school trick to TEMPORARILY get pressure-and it is something that I have done, carefully, on occasion. My plumber was worried that doing that could cause damage and leakage, due to the age and apparent condition of the piping in question. He instead recommended that you replace the section of piping in this area, which you declined and decided to get a second opinion. This was a judgment call on the part of my plumber, and he did it because he did not feel that he should risk causing water damage to the home by hitting your very old piping with a hammer and causing a leak. I did speak with you on the phone after reading this review, and you did tell me that the other plumber did indeed bang on the piping and got the pressure temporarily better, but that he, too, agreed that the only way to permanently resolve this was by replacing the piping-something, again, that my plumber recommended as well. Our trucks are normally well stocked. Two parts runs should not have been required for this work, that I agree, and this is something that was discussed very seriously with my plumbing technician. Again, I am sorry for your dissatisfaction. My plumber did not want to risk causing damage to the house-the other plumber you called was willing to take that risk, but please know that the method he used could have potentially cost you quite a bit of money had luck gone the other way. I believe very strongly that customer satisfaction is a must, and because there were some valid points that this client had, I did offer her a refund. As always, we try our best. On the rare occasion we have a misstep, I welcome anyone to call me so that I can help resolve any issue, day or night, on (773) 407-1884. Thank you, Mike Goode, Goode Plumbing

Provider was very difficult to schedule. After 3 phone calls finally scheduled a service window for Thursday 2-4pm. He said he would call when in transit. I took off of work, waited, and no call and no plumber. VERY POOR and unprofessional . Even a great business can have an off day! After my initial review I immediately heard from Michael Goode. He was very apologetic and asked for a second chance after explaining that he had run into some office scheduling issues which he resolved. I am glad that he followed up. He was very professional, punctual, and in compensation for my time offered to do the job for the price of parts alone. A total class act. It is rare to find really good tradesmen these days. My wife and I are now thrilled to have found Goode Plumbing. They will be our go-to plumbers from here forward.

Member, I am SO very sorry that this happened. We have had a change in office staff recently, so it seems that we may have made a scheduling error. I know what it is like to wait home for a service person, and how frustrating it can be. I will call you today and see what can be done. I would love the opportunity to make this up to you, and will extend an offer of a service call to diagnose the issue with the pump at no cost. Again, I really and truly am sorry for this. Thank you very much for having us out. I have to be honest in that the price quoted here was just for the diagnosis, and not for the actual repair. We still try to keep the repair prices reasonable, too. I am glad that you were happy with our work, and hope that we can be of assistance in the future should the need arise.
