"Thank you for your message. We recommend draining and flushing the water heater annually-two years on city water on the outside of things, to help remove sediment. We recommend changing the drain valve to our full port valve for more complete sediment removal. The Angie's List deal includes the drain, flush, and basic inspection of the water heater. We do this to help maintain the heater and prevent emergencies from happening."
"Thank you for your review! We appreciate your having us out to help with the plumbing issues in your home. We have all experienced tradespeople or a mechanic leaving a mess in our own home or car, and it is upsetting-which is why we do the opposite and try to leave things even cleaner than when we arrived."
I think the price was reasonable.
"Thank you for having us over for the evaluation! We appreciate that, and for your grading us on Angie's List."
Bob was on time, extremely professional, easily worked his way into the cramped area behind the dryer, had the right parts with him, was very easy to have in the house and even cleaned the dust from behind the dryer. He was great.
I couldn't be more pleased with the service from Goode and they will be my go to plumber for any future work.
"Thank you very much for having us over. Bob is indeed tall and lanky-and a good plumber as well! I am glad that everything went well and we were able to get things done. Kerri is a great help and we appreciate her hard work as well. We also appreciate the review here on Angie's List."
"Thank you for having us over to help with the water heater. I am very glad that you were happy with everyone from Kerri to the technician that we sent out. Water heaters used to last twenty years-sometimes longer! Nowadays it seems they average about ten years. All storage type water heaters should get some basic maintenance every two years-more often, if your water conditions are harsh. We recommend draining and flushing the tank and inspecting the anode rod, which should be replaced with a new one when deteriorated. Our full port drain valve with safety cap replaces the factory drain valve. We use these because the opening is about three times the size of the factory one, and allows considerably more sediment to be removed from the tank as a result. Thank you again, for the service call and your review."
"Thank you very much for rewarding us with this work! Reggie installed a new Zoeller ejector pump, quiet type check valves, new basin covers, and the Ion Genesis back up controller system. These are excellent quality products that should give you years of reliable service. We are glad that you were so happy with Reggie (the Member and I also spoke on the phone about the work)-he is truly a great plumber and all around great guy. Thank you again for the work, and for taking the time to review us here."
"Thank you for having us over to help with the sump pump. Normally we carry one on each of our vans, but with the recent heavy rains, we have been using more than usual! We try to keep them in stock at our shop also, so we typically have them available at all times. This was a high quality, all cast iron pump that we warranty for three years, both parts and labor. We also appreciate your review here!"
Placed on wait list due to the company being busy. They were able to come out one week early.
Located and fixed leak. This was accomplished in 3 hours.
"Thank you for having us assist with the leak. We do our very best to give you up front pricing so that there is no surprise once the work is completed and we hand you an invoice. We are very picky about who we hire-so sometimes we do get a little booked up, but often we can get someone in as other jobs get completed. We appreciate the work as well as the review."
"Thank you for using our Sump Pump Inspection deal. Always a good idea if you have a sump pump, especially given the rains we have had here in the Chicago are the past few years. These pumps really work hard. While it is impossible to give an exact life expectancy, we figure 5-7 years is about what one should expect from a good quality pump such as a Zoeller. Home center pumps and similar low grade units may last considerably less, and pumps such as a Tramco should last even longer. Thank you for the service call and your very kind review here on Angie's List."
"Thank you for having rewarding us with a service call! Our plumber, Bob, went over to take care of a toilet leak. I am glad that things went well, and appreciate your review!"
"Thank you so much! We may not be the cheapest-our high standards for quality and customer service do not allow for us to give the rock bottom prices that we wish that we could, but I am confident that if you shop us compared to our competitors, we will come out as a fantastic value. We are happy to have a young helper! It is a good sign if your child is interested in the workings of your home! My five year old helps keep our VW Buses and my Model A Ford clean, and knows what water heaters are the ones to use."
"Thank you for your review. I apologize for you not having an A worthy experience in every aspect. The plumber that was out to you is a fantastic employee, but it seems that he made a couple of missteps with you. Regarding the price, he did give you a price up front that was discounted-he actually did a little better than the Angie's List coupon on this. We do our pricing up front, and by the job rather than by the hour, so that you know what you are going to be paying and there are no surprises at the end. We also do that so that you are not paying more for a slower plumber. All of our plumbers are technically very competent. Some are faster than others at certain tasks. We do not think it would be fair to ask our clients to pay more money to a plumber who may take a little longer at doing a certain job than they would to someone who may get things done faster with the same end result. And vise versa. The plumber that we sent to your home that day happens to be our fastest when it comes to service work such as you had. The actual job-driving there, setting up, doing the work, cleaning up, all takes considerable time, but he did get the job done more quickly than the average plumber. We have plumbers who do other things such as piping faster than this particular plumber, but again, the price will be the same. We find this a very fair way to do work both for the company as well as our customers. I do apologize for him not taking the time to answer your questions. While he did indeed have a meeting with a building engineer scheduled, our policy is to take one job, and one customer, at a time, to give you the best service, whether is actual work or advice. It does seem that we dropped the ball here in this case, and I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have. I will try to contact you today, but you are always welcome to call me on my cell on (773)407-1884. Thank you, Mike Goode Goode Plumbing"
"Thank you very much for the work as well as the review. Brian installed new power vented, energy efficient water heaters, complete with our excellent six year labor warranty to match the factory six year parts warranty, as well as our full port drain valve for proper maintenance and brass fittings at the water inlet and outlet connections to help prevent electrolysis corrosion. I am glad that you were happy with us, and also appreciate your taking the time to write this review about your experience with Goode Plumbing."
"Thank you for having us over to look at the issues that you had after the heavy rains. Bob offered a couple of options to help prevent that from happening in the future. We offer flood control systems, overhead sewer conversions, and seepage piping systems to help eliminate water in the basement depending on each situation. We also appreciate your review on Angie's List!"
"Thank you for having us over to complete the installation of new sump and ejector pumps as well as a new battery back up system. The pumps that we installed have a three year warranty-which includes both parts and, through us, labor. We also installed the back up system-a brand and model that has proven to be very reliable over the twenty years I have been installing this system. This one had a defect, so we replaced it with a completely new unit, and sent the original back to the manufacturer. We appreciate your working with us, as well as your taking the time to write your review about us."
"Thank you very much for your review. As you will see based on our hours listed on Angie's List, we don't advertise for emergency service, but we do our best to provide it whenever possible. In this case, the Member was working on a repair of a tub and shower valve when things took a turn for the worse. Happens to the best of us. After receiving the message, I spoke to the Member and it turned out that they had to turn off the water supply to a multi unit building. After getting some information, I stopped by our shop on the way over for the parts that I thought he might need based on our conversation. I was able to install the new parts, adjust them properly, and get water restored. I wrapped up around 10:30 pm, so the unit owners could use water again. We appreciate the work and the nice review!"
"Hello member, Are you certain that you have reviewed the right company? I have no record here of your name or address. Could you have left a review meant for a different company? It does happen-frustratingly, there is another company with a very similar name located not very far away from us. If you could check that, it would be appreciated. If you are certain that you have the correct company-perhaps your Angie's List account is under a different name and address than the actual job-I would very much appreciate it if you would be kind enough to call me on (773)407-1884 or (773)463-7858, as I take customer service very seriously-when someone is less than completely satisfied, I like to find out why, and how me might be able to do better. We value every customer, whether it is someone calling for a flood control system or a home repipe, or a small faucet drip. Thank you, Mike Goode"
"Thank you for having us over. Reggie worked on a disposal for you, and we appreciate the A rating. We would love any other feedback that you might have, and appreciate your business very much!"
"Thank you for having us over for the service call. Bob removed a drain obstructed from the kitchen sink, and we appreciate your letting us know that you were happy with his work. Regarding the price, I do realize that services can cost more than anticipated sometimes (our policy is to give pricing up front before the work is started to try to remove any surprise at the end!)-I am always a bit in shock when we bring one of our vans in for service, for example-but if you were to compare us to other companies, I am confident you would find our pricing to be "A" worthy."
Plumbers from the firm also cleaned out my old water heaters of their alkaline concretions, so the hot water pipes are much for forthcoming than before.
Goode gave an estimate for replacing the old water heaters. When the heaters die, I will replace them but only then.
I am very satisfied with the work.
"Thank you for your review. This client was one who wanted certain items done that, if I am honest, most plumbers would have been reluctant to tackle. I ended up handling this one personally. I rebuilt some items including vintage toilets. Several us love vintage fixtures and are proficient at working on them, and usually parts can be obtained, but one has to keep in mind that after restoration and some use, once in a while some adjustments may be required, which I did have to return for once. Often times, the replacement parts must be aftermarket, because originals are not being made any longer, and the quality is not always consistent. We often have to modify parts to improve this area-our goal is to deliver a good, reliable product in the end. As mentioned, we also flushed out the water heaters, which are very old but still functioning. We appreciate the work as well as the review here!"
The technician quickly switched out the toilet tank and pressure unit inside the tank for the quoted price of $180. Then he took apart the faucet and found a huge amount of rust buldup. He cleaned out the rust, put the faucet back together and now we have great water pressure. Very efficient and professional!
"Thank you very much for having us out! I am very glad that you were happy with us, and that your toilet is back up and running properly and the pressure has been corrected. The situation that you described-a building that had it's water supply shut off and restored, causing pressure issues at certain fixtures, is a fairly common one. Turning the water supply back on very slowly and leaving a water supply near the shut off valve open can help eliminate that issue. We also appreciate the very nice review. Thank you!"
I hired Goode Plumbing based on the Angie's List reviews and because of the care with which the owner, Mike, showed for his business and reputation. I felt confident that I was in good hands for the installation of a new....and very simple kitchen faucet.
My initial call to the receptionist, Kerrie, included info on the current and new faucet to be installed as well as the fact that I was an Angie's List member.
Kerrie was polite, efficient and pleasant in spite of being very busy.
I had gotten three additional estimates from other plumbers and had carefully gone thru all Angie's List reviews by previous Goode customers needing similar service to mine, so I would have a rough idea of the cost beforehand.
I think it is fair to assume many people would do the same.
Prior to the plumber's arrival at my condo, he called from his truck and asked "Was I aware of what the installation of a single hole faucet was going to cost me?"
I replied that I had done significant research beforehand and felt I had a fairly good idea of what the cost would/should be.
He then replied that the cost would be $405!
Even having been without water in the kitchen for a week , I would not agree to the price as it stood, sight unseen as it was.
He then offered to "come in and see the faucet and perhaps then be able to negotiate a better price". He also asked "what other plumbers had quoted me for the job?"
The plumber inspected the new faucet and returned to the truck to make a phone call to the office, returning with a price quote of $285, which was in line with previous estimates.
The entire job took 20 minutes which included a trip back to the truck for a tool.
The plumber was respectful of my home, knowledgeable, efficient and clean.
I made it very clear to the plumber that I was not upset with him or his work but the tactics involved beforehand.
Now perhaps this is standard operation procedure or just starting off on the "wrong foot", a misunderstanding or miscommunication, but the initial incident has left me feeling very uneasy and I am not sure I would be comfortable using this company again without clarification of this matter.
Yes, I understand and appreciate that a licensed bonded and insured plumber that offered a two year warrantee on labor is not cheap and plumbing prices can vary upon complexity. I am satisfied with the work done, price paid in the end, but not with the overall experience.
The question that lingers is, had I not objected/questioned to the initial stated price of $405, ****job site unseen, not been aware of prices for like service from equally reputable plumbing companies, or desperate enough to agree to anything, would I have been charged $405?
This is the impression I have been left with and it doesn't sit well.
"Thank you, Member, for having us out and for your feedback. Upon seeing this, I spoke with the plumber that we sent to your home, who has been with us for several years. Our policy is to NOT give prices before seeing a job. There are simply too many variables that can effect price. The type of faucet that is coming off and the type that is going in, the supply lines, and many other factors effect price. Sure, a faucet installation could possibly be expensive-we run across faucet installations in which the old faucet has been installed for sixty years (sometimes more), and everything is corroded-I have had to cut old faucets off with an electric saw in some cases because everything is so corroded. In some of these cases, a faucet installation might take several hours. Then there are those like yours-while it takes us more than twenty minutes for most any job, I will agree as did my plumber, that this was a pretty straightforward installation. These are the reasons we do not give prices over the phone or before physically seeing a job-there is no real way to be accurate without seeing it. My plumber did not follow our policy, and for that I do apologize. I have spoken to him about it, to remind him, and he agrees that he erred here. Once he was in, he did give you a price that was in line with where it should have been, and I am glad that things did work out in the end. I pride myself on running a very honest company, and hope that you will consider us in the future! Thank you, Michael Goode"
stopper on our tub. Mr. Goode reached out to me to ensure we were pleased with the overall experience and I very much appreciate the contact. Thank you!
"I am very sorry to hear about your experience with us! I did speak with the plumber who was out to visit ayou and do the work in your home. From what I understand, the Member was not at home but her husband was. My plumber did say that he gave him some options regarding the toilet, but your husband said he was going to most likely just purchase a new one. I am not sure, but perhaps there was some misunderstanding on this. Regarding the clogged sink, the plumber mentioned that he did agree the obstruction was very minor and easily taken care of. He also did replace the tub drain and overflow trim set with a new, high quality version. I left you a message so that I can discuss what happened regarding the toilet and the pricing. I do hope that you will call me back as I would truly appreciate the opportunity to determine what occurred and what we can do to make up for your experience-as you mentioned, we are very highly rated here, and this is not a normal performance for us! While I don't think the price was outrageous, I do agree that based upon my discussion with the plumber, the price should be adjusted for you. It should be noted that we have NOT cashed your check yet, as we are waiting to hear back to see what we can do to try to make things up to you. Please feel free to contact me on my cell, (773)407-1884. Best regards, Mike Goode Goode Plumbing"
"Thank you very much. We are happy that you were happy with us. There are certain things you do not want to always go with the lowest bidder on, plumbing is one of them-whether you use us (which we like!), or one of our competitors, using someone with patience, skills, and a great warranty to back it up are very important. We strive to be the best in the business and appreciate your hiring us as well as your taking the time to write this review about us!"
