I have a spigot in my back yard that, when you turn the nob, it doesn't turn on. I asked the plumber, during the inspection, what his thoughts were on this. He said (and I quote), "How could I know? I'd have to know where this pipe goes". I thought that this was a joke, but it wasn't.
What did I learn from my inspection: that none of my sinks leak. My toilets flush. My back yard spigot doesn't work. So, nothing. I learned nothing.
But, hey, he was on time and nice to me.
"Member, I do not have any record of you in our system. Could you possibly have us mixed up with another company? I looked this up by both name, date, and address, and could find no match. If it is possible that your Angie's List membership is under a different name and address and you are certain that this was performed by us, I would truly appreciate you contacting me on (773)407-1884, which is my cell. I know that several plumbing service companies offer home plumbing inspections. Ours is pretty comprehensive. We do the basics, which it looks like you did have done here-we check for sink leaks and toilets running. But we go beyond that-while we cannot see a pipe that disappears into a wall or ceiling without doing damage, we do test all shut off valves to make sure they work, we check for code violations, sump and ejector pump age, etc. We look for items that may still be in working order, but may be a problem in the near future. We have a checklist that informs you what items are in good working order, which ones may need attention soon, and which should be dealt with immediately or in the near future. We give you individual prices for fixing each item, and if you decide you do want some things repaired, we give you special "package deal" pricing if you have several items done at the same time. If you are confident that this was us and you did not receive this comprehensive service, PLEASE let me know so that we can make sure that you receive the service that you paid for and deserve. Thank you, Mike Goode"
"Thank you for having us over to help with this service call! Our manager and excellent plumber Mike Davis visited this member's home to unclog a fixture recently. Thank you for rewarding us with the work as well as the review here!"
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Bob and Mike were so patient with the install of the new water tank, but they got it DONE!!! We were pleased with the overall turnout of the install and the ultimate result of nice HOT water flowing in our sinks and showers. We're so blessed to have Goode Plumbing as our Go-To source. Our next project will be the catch basin in the Spring :) Words will never capture the true appreciate we feel for Mike and his team. Thank you for everything :)
_____________________
Our relationship with Mike and Goode Plumbing began February 2014. Since this time, Goode Plumbing has been our Go-To source for our plumbing needs. Last week we reached out to Goode because we heard a "snapping" sound each time we turn on the water and a weird roaring sound when we turn on the shower. As usual, we received a prompt callback from Mike then a follow-up from Carrie to schedule our appointment. Carrie also provided a helpful tip during her call. She's awesome!
Bob stopped by to check out our problem. He was prompt, courteous and personable, much like the other Goode team members that have performed services for us. Bob provided a detailed quote outlining the services and the brand of the water tank. Honestly, my mom and I were overwhelmed by the price. Bob shared that Goode Plumbing tends to be higher, but the services are warranted for the same length of time as the tank - something Mike had shared during my initial call. Bob, made some other suggestions if we chose not to go with Goode for the tank, as he understood our budget concerns. Bottom line, we need to replace the tank, but have at least a couple of months before we need to worry:)
After Bob's visit, my mom and I further discussed the matter and we are going with Goode Plumbing to replace and install the tank. The factors we considered were:
1 - The work described is more than what a typical retailer would perform2 - Bob made other tank recommendations if we chose not to go with Goode3 - Bob described the difference between the tank Goode recommends and that of regular tanks from retail stores
I realize this is a long review just for a quote, but I want to share this experience because Goode Plumbing has NEVER tried to take advantage us. Since the death of my dad in 2009, my mom and I now the ones responsible for making decisions about repairs and upgrades on our home. Often times, contractors have tried to take advantage of us so we're leery about whom we do business. Since our initial interaction with Mike, we've been extremely satisfied with his work and the work of his team. We trust Goode Plumbing and highly recommend them for servicing your home! Many Thanks to Mike and the Goode Team!
"Thank you very, very much for your trust in us! That means a tremendous amount to all of us here at Goode Plumbing. We know all too well how many companies-in many industries-are less than honest. We pride ourselves on being the opposite. I have heard horror stories from clients, and experienced situations in my own home or with vehicles I have owned, where a tradesperson was rude, tracked dirt into the home, did less than stellar work, or sold someone work that really did not need to be done, etc. We do not do that here. We will explain the work needed, go over any options and pricing up front, perform the work properly, and leave things neat and clean. We may not have the lowest price in town-our standards of workmanship, quality materials, and the fact that we are a legitimate, properly licensed and insured business with excellent employees, do not allow for that. But over the long term, our quality and fantastic warranty mean you are getting a better value than anywhere else. I appreciate the fact that you recognize this and have been loyal to us over the past few years! Mike Goode"
"Thank you very much for having us over to help with the toilets. We definitely take a lot of pride in our work and ensuring that our clients are completely happy with their experience with us. Thank you for noticing this, and reflecting that in your review!"
"Thank you very much for having us over, and for your loyalty. We have done several plumbing related repairs over the past several years for this Member, which we very much appreciate. Thank you also for taking the time to write a review about your experience with us."
After I related to Mike that the water was not heating properly with new system, he responded immediately and sent a NEW crew out to check the issues. George was part of the new crew and he was fantastic. After several tries he diagnosed that the wrong type of water heater was installed and the radiant heating system needs to better routed. They had to order a special type of water heater and the company was out of stock and thus the company had to build one for our specifications. Thru out the process Mike was very understanding and compassionate. He wanted to make things right and wanted to make insure that I was happy. Mike worked with me on the additional costs for the heater, fixing the radiant heating, etc. Needless to say, he was very generous and I will be forever grateful to him.
George came over on the weekends or late evenings to suit my schedule and spent days and hours to fix everything correctly. It took a few months to get everything working in order but I was never worried as Mike has always treated me fairly and honestly. George did a fantastic job and everything is working perfectly.
Many thank again Mike and George. You really care about your customers and I wish other companies had your attitude and fortitude . Mike and Goode plumbing will be first company that I will call for any plumbing issues. I have also notified my neighbors and friends that Goode plumbing is the place to go.
I give Goode Plumbing the highest of recommendations.
"Thank you so much for your review! We also appreciate the loyalty. We do our very best to build a working relationship with our clients-it is in our best interest to provide outstanding service so that when a homeowner has a plumbing issue, they can be confident that when they call us, they will be treated with respect and receive excellent quality work. In this Member's case, we have done several projects and services over the years. This one in particular was a water heater replacement. He had a somewhat unusual water heater, so our initial plumber called our water heater dealer, to get an idea as to what might be the best solution. We were given a water heater model that they were confident would fit the needs of this home. After installation was complete, the homeowner called and felt the heater was not performing properly. We took another look and found the heater itself was performing as it should be. After some adjustments were made, the homeowner felt things were still not quite the way they should be. We consulted the manufacturer directly, and spent considerable time online and on the phone with them, before coming to the conclusion that this water heater was less than ideal for the needs of this home. In order to make things work, the manufacturer would have to custom build one to meet these needs. We left our water heater in place while this was being done, so the homeowner did have hot water. After the new, custom unit was completed, we swapped the units out, reconfigured some piping to make everything fit and function properly, and made sure all was in good working order. The homeowner reported that all was good. This was a lesson learned, but I am very glad that it worked out in the end and we are very happy to have a satisfied client out of it!"
We had also hoped to get our Kohler toilet upstairs adjusted, so that there would be more water in the bowl, but he was unable to fix that issue.
He was quick and efficient. Only issue was the price. After he left to get parts, I did some online searching and found a site where people list what their plumbing costs were for specific jobs. One woman, in San Antonio, had the same work done and thought the $375 she was charged was too high. Oh well, we are in Chicago.
Originally, Brian was going to charge me $500, but I checked Angie's List and saw that Goode was offering a 10% discount to Angie's List Members. Thank you, ALM, for saving me $50!
"Thank you for your very nice review! We have been doing work for this Member for several years, and we appreciate the loyalty! I am glad Brian did a nice job for you on this most recent service call. Some toilets can be modified or adjusted to perform better. Unfortunately, the toilet that you mentioned here was at it's optimum performance, based on it's design. In terms of price, we are truly very competitive. I won't promise that we are the cheapest in town-you really don't want that, because we have seen the resultant work of very low priced plumbing companies, and something is always missing-be it quality, warranty, licensing, or something else. We prefer to do our work to a high standard, install quality parts, back everything up with the best warranty in the business, and charge reasonably for it. And you are correct, the cost of living and doing business in Chicago is going to be higher than in Texas-that is something we have no control over. Internet sites such as the one you visited should be taken with a grain of salt, as there are really just too many variables to accurately determine whether the service someone received is the same one that you did. But they can be good as a basic guideline. As always, I am happy to explain any of our charges-we want everyone to feel that they got great service at a reasonable price! Thank you, Mike Goode (773) 407-1884"
They were unable to screw in the shower knob the way it was before the plumber had worked on it the last time. Before that we had no issues whatsoever with the knob unscrewing. This time we were told that the knob only has one screw.
The strange thing is that we never had the problem with the knob in the two years before they had to replace the temperature control.
Finally, we had the toilet in the basement checked and were told that it was fine, there's no point to put an augur through. It was nice for the plumber to try to save us money, but now we have a toilet that keeps clogging and we should have just had the water clogging situation taken care of. Now we have to call another plumber
"I am very sorry that you were less than happy with our service. We went out to this member's home for an estimate, and gave advise on the items that needed work. If we fell short in this area, I certainly apologize and would love the opportunity to make it up to you. I am waiting for this member to call me back, as we take great pride in doing an excellent job in both our workmanship and customer service, and do not want to leave anyone less than completely satisfied. Thank you, Mike Goode (773)407-1884"
"Thank you for your review! We appreciate the loyalty, having used our service for various plumbing needs. We do not give prices over the phone, because there are simply too many variables. We wish we were able to, but in most cases, it is nearly impossible to be truly accurate. As for the wait time, we are always trying to improve that! We appreciate you waiting for us, and for the work recently."
"We have been to this Member's home a number of times. We sent our plumber, Erik, several months ago, to take care of a faucet cartridge issue and water pressure correction. More recently, Brian went to this Member's home and installed a new ejector pump, check valve, and other items. We certainly appreciate the loyalty, and your review as well. Thank you!"
"Thank you very much for this review! We are glad to have been of service to you. If we can be of help in the future, please let us know."
"Thank you very much! We appreciate your review, and am glad that you were very happy with our services. Regarding the clean up, that an area that we are very big on. I have had mechanics leave grease on the seat of my car, and have had tradespeople in my own home who have left a mess, and it has always amazed me that someone would leave another person's property in that manner. We respect everyone's home, and if ever there is a situation where a client is unhappy with that way that one of our employees left it, I encourage you to call me on (773)407-1884. Thank you again for the work and the great review."
"Thank you for rewarding us with the service call! We appreciate the work as well as the kind words in your review."
"Thank you for purchasing this special deal through Angie's List. I am glad that you were happy with our services, including Bob, one of our plumbers. We appreciate that you plan to continue to use our services!"
"Thank you for your review! One of our plumbers, Develle, furnished and installed a new food waste disposal for this member. Backed by a long warranty that includes both parts and labor, this unit should prove to be reliable and quiet for years to come. We appreciate the work very much."
The thing I am a bit disappointed about is that I retained this contractor specifically for the purpose of discovering the leak and the inspection was not especially cheap. If I was told that this was not the specialty of this contractor I would have called someone else.
"Member, I appreciate the kind words about our plumber as well as the A rating in several areas, and apologize for the things that you were not happy about. I left you a voice mail today to see what you were looking for regarding the inspection, and specific areas that you felt we fell short in. You purchased our special home plumbing inspection online through Angie's List. This is a comprehensive inspection of all accessible plumbing in your home. We start at the main water supply service entry, and check every fixture, valve, the water heater, etc, for proper operation. We write up a report on every fixture, whether it is in perfect working order, not working at all, or something that is functioning buy may be outdated or coming to the end of it's expected service life. We make notes on any issues, and give written quotes for any issues that need attention. This does not include slab leak location, or hidden leak issues. We can help with hidden leak issues, but that does sometimes involve the help of a specialized leak detection company, who can use special equipment to locate leaks hidden below concrete, etc, but these companies do charge several times the cost of the inspection. It sounds to me that this is more in line with what you were looking for. It wounds like there was a communication issue somewhere here, and if it was on our end, I do apologize and would appreciate you contacting me so we can try to make things right. Thank you, Mike Goode Owner, Goode Plumbing (773)407-1883"
After looking at the system and testing the outside drains, I was told that they didn't actually go into my ejector pit, but drained directly to the sewer. The reason I don't have a sump is that one isn't necessary for my setup. I'm glad Goode plumbing figured it out (and saved me thousands on a new setup). I appreciate the attention to detail and listenting to my concerns and making sure the details were understood before making a recommendation.
"Thank you, member, for purchasing our sump pump inspection Deal from Angie's List. We are glad that you allowed us to come inspect things to make sure they are in working order. As a side note, we do recommend replacing a GOOD quality (Zoller or similar) sump pump after 5 years or so. Home Center and other lesser quality pumps should be replaced more often, for peace of mind. They do not give any warning that they are wearing out, so we recommend doing this to prevent flooding damage."
"Thank you very much! We appreciate you having us over to repair the toilet leak. Tony is a relatively recent hire for us, but he has proven to be a good addition to our team, with customer service and quality workmanship goals that are high. Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience here as well."
And given that we have an old house, we should probably keep their number on speed dial.
"Thank you! Yes, we finished up a little early on a previous service call, so we were happy that you were able to let us come to you sooner than your original scheduled time. I am very glad that things went well, and also appreciate your review."
"Thank you for your review! We have done several items for this member, so we very much appreciate the loyalty. Your repeat business truly means a lot to us."
Develle came to fix my problems. I highly recommend Develle...he took his time explaining the issues and recommendations. We discussed the price up front and all the costs were fixed so he was not motivated to rush through the job and instead focused on great service. Develle then spent a couple of hours at various hardware stores trying to locate the correct parts and completed the job very efficiently. Cannot say enough good things!
"Thank you for your very nice review. As mentioned in the review by the member, our pricing is given up front, so there are no surprises at the end of the job, and the plumbing technician can take his or her time to do the job properly. I am very glad that you were happy with Develle, who has been with our team for quite some time now, and our service."
"Thank you again for your review! We have done multiple items for this Member, both small service calls to larger projects including a flood control system and drain tile system, installation of a tankless water heater, installation of water supply to his roof deck, as well as smaller repairs, over the course the past several years. We truly appreciate the loyalty, and have to say it is truly a pleasure working with this Member. He knows what he wants and has a great sense of humor which makes him fun to work for."
"Thank you very much for your review as well as hiring us for the leak investigation recently! We appreciate your having us over and for taking the time to write about and grade us here!"
