Plumbers were professional and polite. I am a little worried we were overcharged because I usually get quotes first but thought this was a small job and did not. I would use this provider again if I was charged fairly for the work. Any thoughts from readers?
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for having us over to help with the catch basin and rodding work. Each job is different, and yours was more involved than the typical drain cleaning, so the price was more than a typical drain cleaning. It is not always accurate to compare one drain cleaning to another, but I did look over the invoice and spoke to the technicians that were working on your job, and do think that it was a reasonable cost given the work involved. We appreciate the work and the review."

Ken went above and beyond! He wasn’t satisfied until everything was improved after he was done. Great guy. Mike, the owner, was as quick to call me after leave message initially as possible.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you very much for the kind words! I am glad I was able to call you back quickly, and that Ken was able to get out there to help with the issue itself. Thank you for your review and for rewarding us with the service call!"

I called for service on a Saturday, and was able to get an appointment for the following morning. Because this business has regular business hours on weekends, there was no upcharge! On top of that, the dispatcher called shortly after that a plumber was in the area and would be able to stop by right away. Problem fixed in less than 2 hours from the time I called. Finally, the plumber was very professional, efficient and keeping the work to the minimum necessary.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you, Member! We truly appreciate your review. We have now opened up Saturday AND Sunday as regular work days! We do charge an emergency for night time hours, but even our regular weekday, non emergency fee hours have been extended ! We know that not all plumbing issues happen Monday-Friday from 8-4, so we decided to further improve our customer service by helping those in need on Weekends and evenings without a penalty. I am glad that you were happy with our service, and appreciate the work!"

Recommended by a neighbor, Goode Plumbing more than lived up to the recommendation. The dispatcher gave me the first available appointment (in five days), but called about a cancellation the same day I phoned! The plumber, Jake Sagli, explained the problems in plain-English, was on time, professional, and polite. Jake installed a disposal, installed a new toilet, and cleared the bathtub drain in half-a-day! I finally have a plumber I can rely on.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for your review! We truly appreciate your taking the time to write about us and grade your experience with us. Jake has been with us for a bit over a year and has really worked hard for our clients-thank you for mentioning the fact that you were so pleased with him!"

Prices are NOT reasonable and it feels like they recommend the expensive route to all customers knowing that they will most likely pay as customers are desperate to get their hot water back. Quotes are $60, no quotes over the phone. I requested a quote for maintenance work, but received up-selling in return. Techs recommended replacement of the water heater. The techs did not drain the water heater to inspect inside to come up with their recommendation. I received a quote between $2,300-$3,000 to replace the water heater. The 50 gallon Bradford White 40,000 BTU (Part#RG250T6N) water heater retails at roughly $600 and everything is included, so majority of the expense is going towards labor which is ridiculous. I'm certain that Goode has a contract with Bradford White and pays below list price, so replacement cost all together is unbeliveably high. My current water heater was not leaking, just needed to replace the gas control valve. The gas control valve I replaced was less than $200. I also replaced other wear /tear items such as the dip tube, anode rods etc. All said and done, I have hot water again. The techs however were courteous and professional. However, for future plumbing work, I will choose a contractor that is trust worthy. Those that represent Goode are not interested in providing customers with a cost effective route and will most likely recommend replacement of your water heater as plumbers receive a commission.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for your review. I left a message with you, member, as well. Anytime there is an issue with a client, we follow up to see what could have been done to improve the situation-every client is valuable to us! If you get a moment, please call me at (773) 407-1884. There are some cases where a gas valve on a water heater can-and should be replaced. Same with the anode and dip tube. But if the water heater is more than 6 years old, having a professional do this work may cost more than it is worth investing in. The average water heater lasts 10 years, so to invest a considerable amount of money into an older water heater may not be worth it. I will look up the information we have for your water heater to see what the situation was. In cases where the water heater is not very old, it may still be covered under some parts warranty, which helps make replacing a defective gas valve or other part more realistic. Please understand that not all water heaters are the same, and not all installations are the same. If you are looking for the lowest price, you can get that from big box store, but I can tell you that I have reinstalled, or corrected more installations done by their subcontractors, than I can recall. We do our work to a high standard and use only excellent quality parts and materials. I am not sure where you found that price, as it is lower than what we pay for one. If it is online, we do not buy items such as water heaters online. Why? Because we feel paying more for great service is worthwhile. You can find sump pumps, water heaters, etc. online, for less than our cost. But what happens when that water heater goes out, or the pump stops working? We want to be able to remove the bad item and replace it the same day for you. You will not get that service online. We once had a client call us about a water heater they installed themselves that would not work after they were done installing it. We went out there and found the mother board was defective. We called the manufacturer to try to get the part sent under warranty. Unfortunately, when they ran the serial number, they found it was a unit that was supposed to be scrapped, so there was zero warranty. Had we supplied and installed the water heater, and it did not work, we would have obtained and installed the part under warranty, with no issue, because we deal with local suppliers. The water heater prices that we quoted (we gave you a couple of options) included our brass fitting package, full port drain down package, etc. Are competing bids including an expansion tank, and a full parts and labor warranty, as ours does? Comparing a repair you did yourself to one done a licensed, bonded, and insured company that hires only the best techs we can find, is not really fair. If I fix my car myself, of course it is cheaper than it is if I bring it in to a professional mechanic. They are also going to charge me more for parts than if I ordered them online. We want to be in business for many years to provide great service for our clients, and that would be impossible if we sold parts for our cost yet had to stock and warranty them, and did not charge for labor. I will never promise to be the least expensive in town-my dedication to hiring excellent techs who do great work and install excellent products that are backed up by us and the manufacturers as well, is not inexpensive. We also do not rig things together, as I do not want my name or reputation on something that is done less than safely, correctly and reliably. I am sorry if you were not happy with us, and I hope this helps to explain why we do things the way that we do them. I can always be reached on my cell if I can be of any assistance to you on this matter or any future plumbing issue. Thank you, Mike Goode"

the plumber came the friday after thanksgiving, as i put 9 lbs worth of carrot and ginger down the garbage disposal while making a thanksgiving soup. they waived the holiday weekend charge. still, i thought the price was expensive for what i thought would be a small job. they reduced price a bit, and proceeded to spend 8 hours in my house trying to unclog the drain. after all that work and hours spent, they did not try to raise the price. also, the owner of the company came by to see if he could help figure out how to solve the problem. they were honest, reputable, and would hire them again for sure!
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for having us over the day after Thanksgiving. We often see a sizeable increase in calls similar to yours (clogged kitchen sink drain) during the holidays. This was a bit more complex than usual, because of the way the original plumber installed the kitchen sink drain work behind the walls. We made some changes that should make things easier the next time you need the drain line cleaned out. We appreciate the service call and your review here!"

It's true...you get what you pay for. The installers were on time, prepared and replaced our bathroom sink as well as correcting a plumbing issue that we didn't even know we had with that sink. For anyone who is worried about the prices with this company, well 1st of all quality costs. Also, the workers are not day laborers. They are from what I understand licensed professionals who stand behind all work. For me and my husband, this along with the quality work is indeed worth the price.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you very much for your review as well as the work! We cannot promise to be the least expensive plumbers out there, as we strive to hire the best technicians we can find and use only high quality parts and materials. Your home is most likely the single largest investment you will own, so we believe that only a professional belongs working on it. We still provide an excellent value for your money, with great work and a true belief in real customer service."

Like the plumbers very much. Work went as smooth as could be expected. I really do think a plumbing company should be as professional as possible and they certainly are. Would hire them again.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you very much for the work as well as your review. We appreciate you mentioning that a plumbing company should be as professional as possible. Over the years, we have witnessed the industry struggle with this-from technicians showing up at the door wearing an old T shirt and jeans, to trying to sell the client something they don't need. It takes years of training and education to become a plumber, and we could not agree more that this is truly a profession and not just a job. Our company works very hard to project the image and experience of a professional team."

It went well. They identified right away that plumbing adjustment was required to install the garbage disposal as well as new electrical connection. They knew exactly what to do on both counts and accomplished the task in a couple of hours professionally. Everything worked fine. The only disappointment was the cost of doing the replumbing and electrical work required but I suspect the cost was in line with the market costs for this type of work.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you very much for the work! We appreciate the service call and the review here as well. Professional plumbing, or electrical as you mentioned, are not inexpensive, but to have it done properly adds safety, reliability, and value to your home. Thank you again for having us out!"

They were able to come out the same day, and install the new heater. Awesome! Guys were very professional and knowledgable. Pointed out some code problems with the original installation, including an unglued exhaust vent which presented a real CO2 hazard. Grateful for them remediating those issues. I don't buy water heaters very often (thankfully) but it isn't bargain pricing. I do have high confidence they did great work installing the new unit, and use very high quality equipment and materials. That comes at a price.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for having us out! We were very surprised to see the disconnected exhaust vent-a very dangerous, potentially lethal situation. I am glad that we were able to get the new water heater installed properly for you. As you mentioned, we are not bargain priced, as we do our work to a high standard, providing great materials and fixtures, installed correctly, and covered by a great warranty. We appreciate the work and your review!"

This was the second time I hired Goode and they lived up to and exceeded my expectations once again. The plumber arrived on time and was incredibly professional and friendly, explaining why he was doing certain things along the way. He ran into an issue with a part and made several trips down to the truck to find a part that would work (someone had used a toilet part under my kitchen sink!). Even though this added to the time he spent installing the faucet, the price was the same as quoted, which I love about Goode - they give you the pricing upfront and take the time to do the job right. Also, everyone at Goode is incredibly pleasant to deal with, from reception, to the guy who walked me through choosing a faucet when I called with questions, to the plumber who came out this time as well as the one from my previous visit. It's rare to deal with a company where everyone is friendly and helpful, and I really admire that about Goode. All in all - great experience. These guys are my go-to for any plumbing issues.

Tony did a great job. He's very experienced and knows how to work in all sorts of situations even in an older building such as ours. He was punctual, professional and did high quality work. When he discovered that the sink we bought had manufacturer's defects, he gave us the options for dealing with this, and even helped us return the defective item and pick out a new one. He went above and beyond in my opinion. He gave us accurate estimates for the cost of the work before he began. Highly recommended.

Ronnie and Dave did the work and was thorough and professional. We didn’t expect to have what seemed a small job end of being so large but am grateful we are up to code now as we anticipate selling the house. The only ding for these guys is that I told them when I called I was an Angie’s list member and forgot to remind them about the 10% discount offered online which would have saved me $300. They charged $60 to come out which would be waved if they did the work after providing an estimate. However they wanted nearly $800 installed for a new disposal (similar parts only cost $99 on Amazon). I paid them the estimate and didn’t use their services.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for having us out to your home. I am sorry that you were disappointed with us. However, I would like to explain things, and how we work. Yes, we do charge $60 to come out-which is, as you mentioned, waived if you have us perform any of the work we recommend. The reason we charge $60 is because, unlike an increasing number of our competitors, we do not send a salesperson out. Far too many companies are advertising unrealistically low prices, or offering free estimates, in an attempt to get a foot in the door and upsell. We instead send a professional plumbing service technician to your home, who will take the time to properly evaluate the issue, and give you an honest, written quote. So while it may cost a little more up front, we find it often saves you money on the actual job. Having said that, I will never promise to be the lowest priced company in town. In fact, I assure you that we are not! Why? Because we are professionals. We hire professional service techs that enjoy proper pay and good benefits. We only hire the best that we can, and work hard to retain them. We could easily hire less expensive employees that do not do the best work-but would you want that person in the most expensive single investment you are likely to ever make-your home? Neither would I. We also carry proper licensing and insurance-for our protection, and yours! Can you imagine hiring someone that was cheaper bit skimped on workmans comp, and had them fall and get hurt in your home? Plumbing is very physical job, so all of this is very important. We have meetings every morning with our techs to go over issues, technical updates, etc. When we say we care about who we send to you home, we mean it. Now regarding your particular job-we love Amazon! I just bought a book from them last week in fact. I do not, however, buy items I need to actually rely on. Why? Because if it breaks, I want to be able to call the installer and tell them to deal with it, or return it to the local store I bought it from and get a new one. Firstly, not all disposals are the same. Just like there are different makes and models of cars, there are different makes and models of disposals. I assure you , our disposal is no $99 Amazon special Our disposal is not the cheapest, but it is reliable, quiet, and comes with a great warranty-that we back up! And it is installed. The $99 disposal online is not installed. You would still need to get someone to do that if you cannot do it yourself, and you would want to make sure that someone includes the pipe corrections that ours did. This was not just a simple disposal swap. And if it breaks, we deal with it for the next seven years. No pro rated warranty. No removing it, or having someone to remove it (at additional cost), and shipping it back to Tel Aviv or wherever the vendor you got it from is. You call us, we come fix it or replace it. I get that not everyone wants quality. And there are plenty of handypersons that will install a low quality disposal at low price, but you most often getting what you pay for."

Could not have gone better, these guys are the ultimate in customer service and diagnosing problems! I've used them once before and after this second visit, will never use another plumber. Left message on answering service around noon on Thanksgiving day and owner called within minutes. He had me take a photo and send it to him. He called back immediately and tried to walk me through an option to self-repair to save me an emergency visit, but it didn't work. He then took my address and told me he'd call me back with details about scheduling a service for that day. Turns out he was en route to his Thanksgiving celebration and I was nearby so he detoured and came personally. He was able to jury rig a quick fix to get us through the holiday and made replacement recommendations - it was a 15 year old Home Depot low end faucet, so I feel pretty good that we got the full life out of the faucet. They then came back and installed the new faucet. These guys are the very best and the epitome of outstanding customer service - highly, highly recommend!
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you! We weren't about to leave someone with no kitchen sink and guests coming over for Thanksgiving if we could help it! We were able to get the old faucet working for the holiday, and returned the next day to install a new faucet that the client purchased once the supply house opened back up. Thank you for the work and your very nice review!"

The basic problem was simple, yes, but the technician also suggested some bigger repairs due to the age of the toilets. But the price was prohibitive.
Response from Goode Plumbing
"Thank you for having us out, and for allowing us to go over the repair options for your toilets. Often things do seem like a simple fix, and often a temporary repair can be a simple fix. While we can do this, we look at the larger picture-a permanent solution. For example, we often find that the flapper on a toilet is no longer sealing properly, causing the toilet to run. All too often, we find plumbers will replace only this part, despite the rest of the toilet being older as are the other parts inside. Replacing the defective flapper may solve the immediate issue, but if there is an older, lower quality fill valve, we don't want to leave it in there, have it fail a few months later, and have to charge a second service call at that time. We look at the complete toilet-and if all but one part are in perfect order with a long life ahead, then yes, we can certainly keep the repair simple and inexpensive. But if we find a low quality, aging fill valve, an incorrect supply line, a shut off valve that does not shut off all the way anymore, gaskets that cracking, etc., it would be a disservice to you, our client, to leave them and have them fail in the near future. Instead, we find it is more money up front but overall less expensive, to take care of any current issues and soon to become issues, during the initial visit. Our goal is to have you never call us more than one time for the same issue! Thank you again for having us over and for your review!"
