Joe & Ken were great. They came out and took away our old hot water heater and installed a new tankless. They were diligent and helped replace related issues, like a sticky water shutoff valve. They were patient and thorough even when our installation didn't go completely smoothly (our studs are farther apart than they should be), and they calmly and thoroughly came up with a great solution. We joined the VIP plan as a part of the installation, and I will be happy to call Goode Plumbing again for our future plumbing needs.

Scheduling an appointment was easy. I had specific items to be done. Plumber (Brian) arrived and provided reasonable estimate of repairs with explanation of work to be done. I approved and Brian went straight to work, and finished all repairs that same day. Brian was very professional, polite, and completed all work well. My wife and I were very satisfied with the service provided, and feel we got our money's worth. I would re-hire this company, and request Brian, for any future plumbing needs.

Plumbers were professional and polite. I am a little worried we were overcharged because I usually get quotes first but thought this was a small job and did not. I would use this provider again if I was charged fairly for the work. Any thoughts from readers?
Description of Work: Kitchen sink was clogged. Goode came out and checked drain pipes under sink. Could not find catch basin in yard. Cost $279. Goode came out 2 days later and rodded from catch basin with 3” rodder. Sink is functioning again. Additional cost $559. Total cost $838.

Thank you for having us over to help with the catch basin and rodding work. Each job is different, and yours was more involved than the typical drain cleaning, so the price was more than a typical drain cleaning. It is not always accurate to compare one drain cleaning to another, but I did look over the invoice and spoke to the technicians that were working on your job, and do think that it was a reasonable cost given the work involved. We appreciate the work and the review.

I called for service on a Saturday, and was able to get an appointment for the following morning. Because this business has regular business hours on weekends, there was no upcharge! On top of that, the dispatcher called shortly after that a plumber was in the area and would be able to stop by right away. Problem fixed in less than 2 hours from the time I called. Finally, the plumber was very professional, efficient and keeping the work to the minimum necessary.

Recommended by a neighbor, Goode Plumbing more than lived up to the recommendation. The dispatcher gave me the first available appointment (in five days), but called about a cancellation the same day I phoned! The plumber, Jake Sagli, explained the problems in plain-English, was on time, professional, and polite. Jake installed a disposal, installed a new toilet, and cleared the bathtub drain in half-a-day! I finally have a plumber I can rely on.

Not well. I called this plumbing company and the plumber arrived promptly when scheduled. I knew that there was a $60 service fee that would be applied to the cost of the work performed. I then found out that the services that were to be performed were flat rate fees. I did not realize that this particular company did not charge an hourly rate and when I called the company the scheduler assumed that whatever she had said to me certainly explained that was how the company operated. I wondered when I was very specific about the work that needed to be done why she did not give me the flat rate prices on the phone. It would have save a lot of aggravation. Had I heard the flat rate fee I never would have had the company walk in my house. The plumber who had worked for a short period at Goode had difficulty locating the prices for the services we wanted performed and when he finally did find the prices we were told that it would cost over $700 to rod a vanity drain and replace a faucet. We told the plumber that we did not want the work done. While I was talking to the company the person to whom I was speaking talked to the plumber and I was told that I did not have to pay the $60 service fee. The next day a different plumber did the work for $150 I am writing this review just to make people aware that a flat rate fee may not be the best option for plumbing work. It would seem that this company has used to their advantage, but we found it outrageous

I am very unhappy seeing this review to say the least. We never want to let our clients down, but in this case I feel that we were correct. I am the first to admit when we err, which does happen on very rare occasions-and on those occasions I work diligently to make things right. However, I have to disagree on some points of this review. It appears that this client rated us an F overall solely on price. We appreciate the A ratings in Responsiveness and Punctuality, but why not on Professionalism? Our tech spent time going over the work needed and explaining everything. Our dispatcher explained how we worked as well. And how did you rate us an F in quality, when no work was performed? The only things you were unhappy with were the fact that we cannot price things accurately over the phone and the price after we arrived. Two things I cannot apologize for are not giving prices over the phone, and the prices that we have to charge. You may be able to explain things well, but we still need to see it. There are too many variables that can have great effect on the price that we, as professionals, cannot guess at. I cannot tell you how many times early on I would quote a price over the phone, only to find the actual work very different than what was described, and then have the client expect the phone estimate. So we do not give prices over the phone, because it would be less than professional and would be inaccurate to do so. Our flat rate pricing does not mean that all sink drain rodding or faucet installations are the same. That means we will come out and give you an up front price before we start the work. The reason for this is so that you, the client, know what something will cost before the work begins, rather than getting an hourly rate. Getting an hourly rate means you have to hope the plumber works quickly enough to keep the price low, but not so fast that mistakes are made. That also means you would potentially pay a slower, less skilled plumber MORE than a faster plumber with greater skills in a given area. That makes no sense to us, or to the client. The upfront pricing is best for the client, which is our priority. In terms of our pricing, I will never promise to the be the cheapest in town. We have proper licensing, insurance, and bonding that are expensive, but are legally required and are in place for the protection of you, the homeowner, our employees, and the company. They are required. There are companies that skirt some of these requirements to come in at a very low price, but it is illegal to do so. Can you imagine a worker falling down your stairs and suing you because they don't carry workers compensation insurance? All those savings are gone and then some. Plumbing is a very professional trade. We have professional vehicles, uniforms, the aforementioned insurance/bonding/etc. It takes a minimum of four years education, plus continuing education every year to be a plumber. We hire only the best techs we can, who deserve to earn a real living and have proper benefits. Again, there are companies that hire low priced workers with zero health insurance, which results in a high turn over and/or workers that do not care as much about quality and service, coming into your home. We only want the best for our clients and their homes, so we compensate our techs as the professionals that they are. I am not saying that you cannot find a plumbing company that is less expensive. I know that you can. But given our fantastic customer service, our high quality materials, our skilled technicians, and our goal of doing everything right and standing behind our work like no other company, I KNOW that we are a great value. Again, I am sorry if we were unable to explain this to you, though we tried (I also left you a message this morning), and hope that your service call went well, and I can be reached at (773) 407-1884 whether it is 1pm or 1am, if you find that I can be of any assistance. the plumber came the friday after thanksgiving, as i put 9 lbs worth of carrot and ginger down the garbage disposal while making a thanksgiving soup. they waived the holiday weekend charge. still, i thought the price was expensive for what i thought would be a small job. they reduced price a bit, and proceeded to spend 8 hours in my house trying to unclog the drain. after all that work and hours spent, they did not try to raise the price. also, the owner of the company came by to see if he could help figure out how to solve the problem. they were honest, reputable, and would hire them again for sure!

Thank you for having us over the day after Thanksgiving. We often see a sizeable increase in calls similar to yours (clogged kitchen sink drain) during the holidays. This was a bit more complex than usual, because of the way the original plumber installed the kitchen sink drain work behind the walls. We made some changes that should make things easier the next time you need the drain line cleaned out. We appreciate the service call and your review here!

It's true...you get what you pay for. The installers were on time, prepared and replaced our bathroom sink as well as correcting a plumbing issue that we didn't even know we had with that sink. For anyone who is worried about the prices with this company, well 1st of all quality costs. Also, the workers are not day laborers. They are from what I understand licensed professionals who stand behind all work. For me and my husband, this along with the quality work is indeed worth the price.

Prices are NOT reasonable and it feels like they recommend the expensive route to all customers knowing that they will most likely pay as customers are desperate to get their hot water back. Quotes are $60, no quotes over the phone. I requested a quote for maintenance work, but received up-selling in return. Techs recommended replacement of the water heater. The techs did not drain the water heater to inspect inside to come up with their recommendation. I received a quote between $2,300-$3,000 to replace the water heater. The 50 gallon Bradford White 40,000 BTU (Part#RG250T6N) water heater retails at roughly $600 and everything is included, so majority of the expense is going towards labor which is ridiculous. I'm certain that Goode has a contract with Bradford White and pays below list price, so replacement cost all together is unbeliveably high. My current water heater was not leaking, just needed to replace the gas control valve. The gas control valve I replaced was less than $200. I also replaced other wear /tear items such as the dip tube, anode rods etc. All said and done, I have hot water again. The techs however were courteous and professional. However, for future plumbing work, I will choose a contractor that is trust worthy. Those that represent Goode are not interested in providing customers with a cost effective route and will most likely recommend replacement of your water heater as plumbers receive a commission.

Thank you for your review. I left a message with you, member, as well. Anytime there is an issue with a client, we follow up to see what could have been done to improve the situation-every client is valuable to us! If you get a moment, please call me at (773) 407-1884. There are some cases where a gas valve on a water heater can-and should be replaced. Same with the anode and dip tube. But if the water heater is more than 6 years old, having a professional do this work may cost more than it is worth investing in. The average water heater lasts 10 years, so to invest a considerable amount of money into an older water heater may not be worth it. I will look up the information we have for your water heater to see what the situation was. In cases where the water heater is not very old, it may still be covered under some parts warranty, which helps make replacing a defective gas valve or other part more realistic. Please understand that not all water heaters are the same, and not all installations are the same. If you are looking for the lowest price, you can get that from big box store, but I can tell you that I have reinstalled, or corrected more installations done by their subcontractors, than I can recall. We do our work to a high standard and use only excellent quality parts and materials. I am not sure where you found that price, as it is lower than what we pay for one. If it is online, we do not buy items such as water heaters online. Why? Because we feel paying more for great service is worthwhile. You can find sump pumps, water heaters, etc. online, for less than our cost. But what happens when that water heater goes out, or the pump stops working? We want to be able to remove the bad item and replace it the same day for you. You will not get that service online. We once had a client call us about a water heater they installed themselves that would not work after they were done installing it. We went out there and found the mother board was defective. We called the manufacturer to try to get the part sent under warranty. Unfortunately, when they ran the serial number, they found it was a unit that was supposed to be scrapped, so there was zero warranty. Had we supplied and installed the water heater, and it did not work, we would have obtained and installed the part under warranty, with no issue, because we deal with local suppliers. The water heater prices that we quoted (we gave you a couple of options) included our brass fitting package, full port drain down package, etc. Are competing bids including an expansion tank, and a full parts and labor warranty, as ours does? Comparing a repair you did yourself to one done a licensed, bonded, and insured company that hires only the best techs we can find, is not really fair. If I fix my car myself, of course it is cheaper than it is if I bring it in to a professional mechanic. They are also going to charge me more for parts than if I ordered them online. We want to be in business for many years to provide great service for our clients, and that would be impossible if we sold parts for our cost yet had to stock and warranty them, and did not charge for labor. I will never promise to be the least expensive in town-my dedication to hiring excellent techs who do great work and install excellent products that are backed up by us and the manufacturers as well, is not inexpensive. We also do not rig things together, as I do not want my name or reputation on something that is done less than safely, correctly and reliably. I am sorry if you were not happy with us, and I hope this helps to explain why we do things the way that we do them. I can always be reached on my cell if I can be of any assistance to you on this matter or any future plumbing issue. Thank you, Mike Goode

Thank you very much for the work as well as your review. We appreciate you mentioning that a plumbing company should be as professional as possible. Over the years, we have witnessed the industry struggle with this-from technicians showing up at the door wearing an old T shirt and jeans, to trying to sell the client something they don't need. It takes years of training and education to become a plumber, and we could not agree more that this is truly a profession and not just a job. Our company works very hard to project the image and experience of a professional team.

We do charge to send a professional plumbing service technician out, that is correct. However, that charge is credited/waived if any work is performed. Please understand that we are a quality focused company, and as such, we hire only the best technicians that we can find, rather than salespeople or lower quality techs, and we have proper licensing and insurance for your protection, so we do have to charge a minimal fee to come out to you. They were able to come out the same day, and install the new heater. Awesome! Guys were very professional and knowledgable. Pointed out some code problems with the original installation, including an unglued exhaust vent which presented a real CO2 hazard. Grateful for them remediating those issues. I don't buy water heaters very often (thankfully) but it isn't bargain pricing. I do have high confidence they did great work installing the new unit, and use very high quality equipment and materials. That comes at a price.

This was the second time I hired Goode and they lived up to and exceeded my expectations once again. The plumber arrived on time and was incredibly professional and friendly, explaining why he was doing certain things along the way. He ran into an issue with a part and made several trips down to the truck to find a part that would work (someone had used a toilet part under my kitchen sink!). Even though this added to the time he spent installing the faucet, the price was the same as quoted, which I love about Goode - they give you the pricing upfront and take the time to do the job right. Also, everyone at Goode is incredibly pleasant to deal with, from reception, to the guy who walked me through choosing a faucet when I called with questions, to the plumber who came out this time as well as the one from my previous visit. It's rare to deal with a company where everyone is friendly and helpful, and I really admire that about Goode. All in all - great experience. These guys are my go-to for any plumbing issues.

Tony did a great job. He's very experienced and knows how to work in all sorts of situations even in an older building such as ours. He was punctual, professional and did high quality work. When he discovered that the sink we bought had manufacturer's defects, he gave us the options for dealing with this, and even helped us return the defective item and pick out a new one. He went above and beyond in my opinion. He gave us accurate estimates for the cost of the work before he began. Highly recommended.

It went well. They identified right away that plumbing adjustment was required to install the garbage disposal as well as new electrical connection. They knew exactly what to do on both counts and accomplished the task in a couple of hours professionally. Everything worked fine. The only disappointment was the cost of doing the replumbing and electrical work required but I suspect the cost was in line with the market costs for this type of work.

Brian was extremely professional and excellent at his job. He carefully explained charges and reviewed his work with us after it was done. I have nothing but the highest praise for a job so well done. We are signed up for future checks and service. Highly recommend with no reservations
Description of Work: We had specific plumbing work that we knew needed to be addressed, but we also were aware that it had been years since we had done an overall evaluation. This included but was not limited to repairing leaking toilets, replacing a broken toilet, replacing piping that was incorrect for designated use, fixing additional leaks and malfunctions in the kitchen sink, basement sink, replacing broken bathroom sink and more

Thank you, Member, for having us out. We are glad that Brian did a great job for you-he is very thorough! When we go to a home that we have not been to before, we like to walk through the plumbing system with the owner so that we can make sure everything is in good, reliable order, and to show you things that may potentially cause an issue. We do not want to see our clients have an expensive emergency! Thank you for the work and your review here on Angie's List!

It went great. They showed up on time and quite quickly after I called. Examined the problem, provided an estimate, and did the work in less than an hour. Friendly and professional. Highly recommend.

They charged $60 to come out which would be waved if they did the work after providing an estimate. However they wanted nearly $800 installed for a new disposal (similar parts only cost $99 on Amazon). I paid them the estimate and didn’t use their services.
Description of Work: Needed investigation of leaking under the sink.

$60
Response from Goode Plumbing
Thank you for having us out to your home. I am sorry that you were disappointed with us. However, I would like to explain things, and how we work. Yes, we do charge $60 to come out-which is, as you mentioned, waived if you have us perform any of the work we recommend. The reason we charge $60 is because, unlike an increasing number of our competitors, we do not send a salesperson out. Far too many companies are advertising unrealistically low prices, or offering free estimates, in an attempt to get a foot in the door and upsell. We instead send a professional plumbing service technician to your home, who will take the time to properly evaluate the issue, and give you an honest, written quote. So while it may cost a little more up front, we find it often saves you money on the actual job. Having said that, I will never promise to be the lowest priced company in town. In fact, I assure you that we are not! Why? Because we are professionals. We hire professional service techs that enjoy proper pay and good benefits. We only hire the best that we can, and work hard to retain them. We could easily hire less expensive employees that do not do the best work-but would you want that person in the most expensive single investment you are likely to ever make-your home? Neither would I. We also carry proper licensing and insurance-for our protection, and yours! Can you imagine hiring someone that was cheaper bit skimped on workmans comp, and had them fall and get hurt in your home? Plumbing is very physical job, so all of this is very important. We have meetings every morning with our techs to go over issues, technical updates, etc. When we say we care about who we send to you home, we mean it. Now regarding your particular job-we love Amazon! I just bought a book from them last week in fact. I do not, however, buy items I need to actually rely on. Why? Because if it breaks, I want to be able to call the installer and tell them to deal with it, or return it to the local store I bought it from and get a new one. Firstly, not all disposals are the same. Just like there are different makes and models of cars, there are different makes and models of disposals. I assure you , our disposal is no $99 Amazon special Our disposal is not the cheapest, but it is reliable, quiet, and comes with a great warranty-that we back up! And it is installed. The $99 disposal online is not installed. You would still need to get someone to do that if you cannot do it yourself, and you would want to make sure that someone includes the pipe corrections that ours did. This was not just a simple disposal swap. And if it breaks, we deal with it for the next seven years. No pro rated warranty. No removing it, or having someone to remove it (at additional cost), and shipping it back to Tel Aviv or wherever the vendor you got it from is. You call us, we come fix it or replace it. I get that not everyone wants quality. And there are plenty of handypersons that will install a low quality disposal at low price, but you most often getting what you pay for.
