Goode Plumbing

I have had experience with owning 7 rental properties over the past 10 years which were completely gutted and Goode is by far the most professional and straight forward plumbing company I have delt with from either the Chicagoland area or Michigan (where the majority of my properties reside). As this project was for my home, I wanted to make sure I had the best person for the job and I am happy to say I found them. Goode also guarantees their work for life which is true to form as they were happy to make small adjustments after the job was finished. Overall, if all contractors, plumbing or otherwise, approached their profession and customer service the way Goode does, we as customers would be a much happier group.

Our hot water heater, which was more than ten years old, went out on Thursday when we had house guests. Mike Goode returned my call within ten minutes. Jeff came out that same day, early in the evening to assess the situation. I had been interested in exploring tankless water heater options. Jeff was very personable, and presented information in a clear and straightforward manner. Tankless options were 3x the price of a conventional water heater, installation could be tricky, and Jeff confirmed reports we heard from the neighbors that city water lines in our neighborhood would not work well with tankless. We weighed the options and went with a conventional hot water heater--Bradford White 50 gal tank with a 6 year parts and labor warranty. Jeff installed the new hot water heater the next day, which we were very appreciative of since we were heating water on the stove for dishes and sponge baths. Jeff was great. Installation took less than two hours, including repiping of two gas water vent lines.

Goode was the first of three plumbers we contacted to get quotes for installing new water heaters. After a few weeks of back and forth from all of them, I decided on Goode. The decision was based on the in-person conversations with them. Goode was not the cheapest, but his explanation of their installation process convinced me he would perform the most extensive and careful installation. The work was scheduled, and performed on time and in a professional manner. After the installation, Goode was patient in answering questions about maintenance and operation.

I e-mailed Goode plumbing late Thursday night and got an instant response from Mike Goode. He came out the next day to inspect the job and give us an estimate. His price was in line with the other estimates we got, but he offered a much better warranty and seemed more knowledgeable and enthusiastic about installing tankless system. He even moved us up on the schedule a few days when the leak worsened on our old hot water heater. I also liked that the same person giving the estimate would be doing the work--that wasn't the case with the other plumbers we contacted. Mike worked a very LONG day and stayed all the way to 7 pm to make sure everything was completed and working properly. He even added a few extras and rodded our floor drain while sticking to the price on the estimate. The new heater works great even in the winter with multiple showers running at once. It's amazingly small and frees up so much floor space. We will definitely use Goode plumbing in the future. It was the best service we've ever had.

He arrived promptly, placed shoe booties on to avoid tracking any dirt inside my condo and gave me a fixed bid estimate and a time to completion. I approved the estimate, he went to purchase the parts, returned and installed the faucet as described. He completed the whole project 30 minutes earlier than estimated - which was wonderful!

I was having problems with a leaky kitchen faucet and also needed maintenance service on my hot water heater. Jeff came the same day as my call and flushed out the water heater. When he tried to replace the faucet there was a problem with the one he purchased from the supplier. He had to return on Monday with a different faucet that was more expensive, which he gave to me for the same price as what he quoted for the original. Jeff is very professional and he thoroughly answered all my questions regarding the work he was doing.

Consulted w/ Michael Goode summer of 2009 as to feasibility and cost. He voluntarily came to job site. Had to determine correct size of gas piping (1.25 inches). Provided ALL paperwork and advice on how to apply for tax credits: local gas company, State of Illinois, and Federal tax credits. Totally professional at all times, available by 'phone and helpful.

I called and left a message for service and heard back from Mike within 15 minutes to set up a time to perform services. He was able to offer available times that day and the day following. On the day of the appointment he called prior to arriving asking if he could come a bit early, which was great. He arrived and competently assessed the situation, performed the required tasks, and was done in under 30 minutes. The work area was left very clean and ready to go! Great professionalism and reliability. Will use his services again and have recommended him to the other units in my building.

Goode was great. We called on a Monday and were able to get an appointment for the next morning. The plumber came to measure, gave us an estimate, and when we accepted, was able to install the same day. Our old toilet was a real water-guzzling monster and took a long time to remove. He did a great job, cleaned up before he left, and our new toilet works great.

A very positive experience. Late last year, I decided it was time to update our 25-year-old storage water heater before it made that decision for me during the depths of Chicago winter. I checked Angie's List for better-rated providers and called Goode Plumbing. Mike came out on a Friday night, took a look at our unit and talked through the options, including tax-breaks and rebates through our gas company if we purchased a new energy efficient unit. We wound up doing just that, saving 40% ($1600) off the purchase and install price. On top of that, Mike honored his Angie's List coupon for an additional 10% discount. Since I purchased the unit through him, he added his "labor" to the six-year warranty by the heater's manufacturer. With his colleague Ernie, Mike arrived on schedule on the day of the install, finished ahead of his estimated completion time, disposed of my old unit and left their workspace cleaner than when they arrived. He also walked me through the basics of the unit, conveniently taped the manual to the new heater, and encouraged me to call him with any questions or problems. Once the unit was up-and-running, our water pressure seemed not as strong as prior to the replacement. I mentioned this in a follow-up exchange with Mike, and he immediately offered to come out, clean our aerators at our sinks/showers, and check out the issue at no cost. Once again, he arrived on schedule, did what he does and our pressure is now better than before. Despite the significant expense of this purchase, I highly recommend Goode Plumbing. Mike is honest, responsive and professional. Worth the investment.

Originally I was just going to install supply lines, as recommended by Mike to make the job cost effective. Once they started the job, they discovered problems with the venting. Mike gave me some options with quotes and explained the advantages/disadvantages of each. The job went longer because of it, and they were flexible about scheduling work when I could be there. Also, a second floor drain happened to plug up while they were there and they fixed it quickly at the end of the day and may not even have charged me for it. The bill was at the low end of their quoted price range. The room where they worked is cleaner than it was when they started. These guys are the best in the city.

Michael was very responsive in both initial response and quoting the job. His estimate was very competitive in pricing and was easy to work with on scheduling. We had the same job quoted with other companies, and did not get the comfort level that the estimate was going to be as accurate. Michael was very good at explaining exactly what he recommended, and cost to do it. We settled on a Sumpro (as I was told by many sources that was the best) and a new secondary pump. Michael arrived as scheduled and did a terrific job. He actually did more than was on the estimate, but swapping my primary pump into the secondary position and putting the new pump in the primary spot (as he found the new pump was a stronger pump). The final job was done exactly as promised (plus some) and he left the work area clean and exactly as he found it. I cannot recommend him enough.

We called them to run a new gas line to our dryer on a Monday, and they came out on Wednesday to do an estimate. The estimate was higher than other estimates that we got, but they came down on their initial quote to compete with the other estimates we received. We decided hire them for the job, and they performed the work on Friday of the same week. I have to say, they did great work and were very thorough and professional. I'm glad that I hired them and not some of the other companies that gave us quotes. They were much more professional and I feel like they didn't take any short cuts on the work even though they came down in price for us.

They also replaced two leaking faucets, replaced cartridges, stopped those leaks. They were very reasonable. I had them come out another time for my other building. They repaired frozen/bursted pipes. They came out and took care of it righ away.

Great. Came on time and finished quickly. Was neat and careful with job.

It was excellent service. Promptly and professionally done. I had to call them back and they were there to fix the issue. I was very pleased and would use them again.

They were prompt, on time and very courteous. The quality of the work was excellent and I would definitely use them again.

Great service -- I called at about 9:30 in the morning, Michael called back within 30 minutes -- I explained that we had sinks overflowing so it was an emergency (i.e., we couldn't use any water, including toilets). He said his guy would be over right after the job he was working on. The service guy called in perhaps an hour and a half, came over, and cleared the blockage in the washing machine and dishwasher pipe. The service rep who came was a young, friendly guy who knew what he was doing. He worked quickly, using two hand held pieces of equipemnt, was out in about an hour. That included his answering my questions about plumbing in the house and our future needs. He didn't try to sell me anything; a good sign! The bill was $195. then when I reminded him that we'd been referred by Angies list (as I'd said on the telephone), we got 10 percent off the price. At my request, he also gave me an estimate on putting in a waste disposal unit in the kitchen sink - $660. Very good experience -- we'd use them again. My only quibble is the price; evern with the discount the cost was about the same as when twice in the past we'd had more serious blockages, between our main sewer pipe and the city pipe. Both times, with different companies, it required a big two man piece of equipment and two guys operating it and doing cleanup, and each time the cost was $175. I know that a lot of the cost is the visit itself but this seemed high for a smaller, less messy job. As for the estimate on a food disposal, that seems way out of line; the units cost less than $200 and the sink has had one in it before, so installation would not be a major project. That said, the promptness of response and the helpfulness of the service guy put's Goode at the top of my list should we need help again. (Just not to install a food disposal in the sink!)

Mike is a friendly and professional guy. Answered all questions when he came out for estimate, then came out and did job as planned. Cost met estimate-- no milking of the job for an extra buck. Very good experience. Found him on AL and was not disappointed. Will use him again and recommend him to others.

He came in with covers on his shoes so he wouldn't get my floors dirty. He was very friendly and extremely professional the entire time. I will use him in the future for any plumbers that arise.

He showed up on time, was professional in appearance, and did a great job on the repair. I've called 5 plumbers to my house in the past 3 years, and these guys are head and shoulders above the rest. They're not cheap, but their prices are fair and they are reliable.

The experience was excellent and they were good. I haven't noticed a problem. He said it was actually all the way up in kitchen sink and he also plumbed out or cleaned out a utility drain too. I would use them again if needed.

It was the day before Thanksgiving and my kitchen sink was clogged. I dreaded the idea of having to wait while I had a lot of errands to run. Mike called me at 7AM because he heard my voice mail the previous night and wanted to respond asap. He was absolutely delightful, responsive, and a role model for customer service.

Mike Goode met with our board members, assessed the need of our three flat building and gave us a variety of options that would fit our requirements. The condo members picked the Vertex due to it's high efficiency rating which qualified it for the US gov't tax rebate. Goode was able to install the unit within two days including the necessary new ventilation work. He was extraordinarily professional and helpful in the process. We highly recommend Goode Plumbing!

Mike was very responsive to email request for appointment. Came out and explained options. No pressure. Installed in one afternoon on the day scheduled. Ended up coming in the afternoon instead of the morning as scheduled but called in advance. Overall a good experience.
