I contacted Pierre by e-mail and he responded the same day. He explained that he could not quote me a price because the price depends on how much research he would need to do. I called him to set up a time to drop off the paintings. He works in a warehouse turned art gallery on the South Side. My husband and I met Pierre and looked at the paintings with him in his cozy office. He was able to figure out the artists' signatures and look them up in his databases. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that our paintings are far more valuable than we imagined, so I am especially glad that we had them appraised! Pierre was not an art snob and delightful to work with. He created a report for each painting, which includes a photo of the painting, measurements, a description of the frames, and a biography of the artist. I suppose $500 for three artists and four paintings is what an appraisal costs, but it is still a lot of money! It will be well worth it, however, should something happen to our paintings.
