FABIAN & SON HEATING AND COOLING

This latest appointment was just to fix a broken furnace but I have used Mike Fabian for new furnaces and new AC units as well as repairs for my 15 apartments for over 10 years. Always reliable, always prompt, always fairly priced and excellent work. When my city friends ask me for HVAC recommendations I tell them I only use Fabian and Sons.

We own apartment buildings and thus own more than 50 HVAC systems. We count on Fabian and Son for all of our installations and repairs, and have done so for nearly 30 years. They are professional and reliable and get the job done right the first time.

I have been using this company for several years. Recently I had my furnace cleaned and every year I have routine maintenance done on my AC unit. Always professional and courteous. Alfredo was the most recent technician, and he did a thorough job cleaning the furnace, was super nice and professional (didn't have to ask him to put on slippers for the hard wood floors), plus he changed out my humidifier filter without me having to ask him, which would have taken me an hour to do. I would definitely request him next time. Great job, as always.

My gas company had told me they would not check my external gas line for my bbq, and that I needed to contact an HVAC company. (Still not sure why a gas company wouldn't check a gas line?) I called Fabian & Son and explained my situation to the woman answering the phone. I was very briefly placed on hold when much to my surprise Mike himself came on the line. He was very helpful in talking me through the steps I needed to complete the hookup. He also made it very clear that if I was not comfortable doing it myself, they would be happy to do the installation, but there would be a wait before they could come out. Mike was incredibly helpful. I know summer is a busy time and I was impressed by the fact that he took the time to talk me through the steps. I know this is a very small job that most companies wouldn't even bother with, so I was also appreciative of his offering to do the job if I was still not comfortable doing it myself. I may not be using his services this time out, but based on his professional and helpful behavior, you can count on Fabian and Son being my new go to for all my HVAC needs!

They came out to check my AC/Furnace/Thermostat. I did not think the thermostat was working correctly. They are so unbelievably helpful. They work long hours, and the employees are very nice. Their prices are very reasonable as well.

It's an older unit. They were very professional. They did not have the part to fix it. The church had used them and had an excellent experience with them. It was the owners son and an appreentice and neither had seen a piece of equipment so old. They did their best, but it wasn't a good fit. When they put in the new unit at the church it was an excellent fit and and excellent experience.

I have been a Fabian & Son customer for approximately 10 years. They are prompt, professional and courteous. They quote their work and that is exactly what it costs. They helped me get energy rebates when I needed a new furnace. No matter which technician they send they are there on time, take great care in their work, and almost always fix it first time around (except the time my furnace was completely dead and needed to be replaced, they did that next day, because it was 7pm at night. They are the standard I hold every other type of home service provider to, and I have no reservation recommending them for any HVAC job.

This was a class act from start to finish. Mike (the owner) analyzed the system and made a recommendation. He even suggested testing if it might work before making our decision. Mind you if it didn't work, he would have been out the job. His analysis was correct and we scheduled the job. The day of the work the technician arrived on time and was friendly, professional, and neat. He thoroughly explained the system and made sure that we were satisfied. A great experience! We will definitely use them again.

We got estimates from 3 different places and Mike offered the best price. They were responsive to our needs during the project even when they differed from their ideas. It took longer than anticipated but we are very happy with the end result. They updated and re-worked the heating system to make it much more efficiient and even in the house, and they did a great job with it. After living in the house for a bit, we had them return to do some additional work. They were responsive, the price was good, and they were quick with finishing up the job.

You ever ask your friends if they have a furnace "guy"? Well Mike Fabian is that guy! So let's recap why these are the guys you want to call when you have heating or cooling issues: (1) Urgency response to no heat (2) Quality, on time , on quote and clean service (3) Full explanation of problem and resolution steps (4) High integrity of the work done and on getting me the best price (5) Feeling that they are doing good, honest work and value you as a customer. My experience. I receive his name from a friend when my furnace would not fire up. I called their service around 11am and the lady who schedules the day first asked how urgent it was (for the record, I said we had no heat, but space heaters were working so we are ok in the short term). She couldn't guarantee me a same day service but promised first thing the next morning. 30 minutes later, they called to see if I was available later that afternoon! They charge by the hour + parts and labor. The guy game out, diagnosed and fixed the problem within in the hour service call. He also noticed some funny wiring on my furnace's humidifier and ask if I wanted him to fix that as well. Everything was fixed and complete on time with good service. Unfortunately, I had another issue 3 weeks later and called Fabian and Son's again. They came out same day. Found another issue and fixed it under warranty of the furnace. Didn't charge me because he thought they should have caught it the first time (honestly, I don't know how they would have caught it the first time) and even thought about the parts they installed last time to realize they were under warranty too! He took the old part with him from the previous visit, checked the warranty and called me 2 weeks later to let me know I would be getting a full refund on the parts from the last visit.

Mike and his crew initially installed basement heating when we were remodeling shortly after buying our house. He did what he said he would do on time and on budget. Nice guy, good crew. In September, 2008 and April, 2012, the North Branch of the Chicago River came over its banks and left us with 5.5 ft. of water in our basement. The heating system mentioned above was saved/cleaned/repaired when flooding made that necessary. But this is not the best thing Mike did for us. Both times we have flooded, he has replaced our water heater immediately or very quickly (the first time the floodwater had only been gone few hours.) We have this picture of his crew walking the new water heater down the street and into our house from a long block away because non emergency vehicles were not yet allowed on the street. So while most people on the street were still standing in mud trying to figure out where to start, he was getting our cleanup/rehab started by getting us hot water. And a hot shower helps so much when things are bad. He also removed and took electronic parts from our boiler with him and either replaced or cleaned and carefully dried them. This work prevented us from having to buy a new boiler. While we had some parts that needed to be replaced, the expense was about 10% of the cost of a new boiler. There have been times through the years when Mike hasn't returned a phone call as soon as we called. However, once in a while, when we have had a lot of rain and the river is high, Mike will call us to ask if we want him to come and remove the delicate electronics from our boiler in case we flood. And during the summer/fall of 2012 he removed them "just in case." How do you beat that kind of service? I'm half afraid to tell people how wonderful he has been to us because we might need his help again and we don't want to have to wait in line!

We use them all the time and they're great. We've been using them for a few years. We had them come out about a month ago and we spent $20 for them to do a standard checkup. Even if he can't figure it out the first time and he needs to run some trial and error sessions, he would just come back a few time during the week until it's fixed and he doesn't charge me extra for the visits. He's extremely close by, he's responsive and he's easy to schedule. He's a very nice guy, I feel very comfortable with him and he's always able to figure things out and fix it. If it takes more time he's still on top of it. He knows what he's doing.

Mike and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with. He is a very smart and innovative guy; he enjoyed the novelty of this job, and really got into creative problem-solving mode for some of the sticky points. Mike's enjoyment of the job and the problem solving made what could have been an irritating and expensive install into a fun challenge. He often would come to the site in the morning having thought about - or even written up - a solution to one or another vexing problem we faced. So, not only no griping or exorbitant extra costs, but a real "let's get this complex system to work" attitude. I can say that working through this install with Mike I learned A LOTt. He is very open and straightforward about what is going on, both the good and the bad - i.e., problems he had trouble solving. Mike's whole team is very quality oriented. He is NOT the guy you call in for a cheap and dirty installation of your new Sears heating unit. Rather, you should call him if you have a more systematic job and want - are are willing to pay for - a real quality installation. He insists on using high quality components, fittings and everything else, so that can push the dollars a little, although quality in something as basic as HVAC more than pays for itself over time.

We coordinated the scheduling of an estimate via email, which was very convenient. The contractor arrived on time and did a cursory check of the ductwork to be completed. It took quite awhile to get an estimate back via email - at least one week. The estimate was very high in comparison to the others that we received. We received estimates ranging from $250 to $5500. Fabian and Sons was the highest. We ended up having the work done with another company that was right in the middle of the wide range of estimates. Overall, the contractor was punctual and professional; mainly the estimated price led us in another direction.

Called Fabian and Sons when the a/c died in the middle of one of our summer heat spells. Two other contractors had said that due to the type of issue (hole in coil), they could only do a complete replacement. Fabian and Sons staff were honest about their chances, but were willing to attempt a repair. Due to their skill and attention to detail, their repair was successful and a $4000 new A/C system became a $255 repair and re-charge.

Very professional. Punctual. Did trouble-shooting with our A/C unit to figure out why it wasn't cooling adequately. They helped us understand some issues with our duct work which were unrelated to the service call. Would definitely call again, completely satisfied.

I am hesitant to write this review as my selfish side would like to keep this treasure for myself but this is what AL is all about, right? Mike has been helping me with my heating and cooling issues for almost 15 years. I trust him and love his work. He has replaced my furnace and air filter, re-routed some oddly placed ductwork and serviced my AC. As long as Mike and Matthew are working, I will be calling them.

Even a call to say they were going to pass on the job would have been a bit more courteous.

Furnance went out and I left messages for several companies. Not only did they get back to me promptly, they said they could come out 1st thing in the morning. My location was a little out of their service area, but they still came at no extra cost. They replaced the ignitor and also cleaned out the furnance, wire brushed the heat exchangers, replaced filter, and also unclogged the humidifier that was backing up. They suggested some other things with the setup of the furnance that could be done to enhance the life/functionality of it as well if I ever wanted to do them in the future or do my self. Great service, great price! Anyone looking for good HVAC guys that won't rip you off that will do the job right should use these guys. I have several rental properties and this is the first time I felt like I didn't take it in the chin.

Mike Fabian was great. Two neighbors and myself all wanted new furnaces before the end of 2010, to take advantage of any tax incentives. We live in a condo building, and were debating between the 80% and 95% furnaces. We had several different furnace people come out, and Mike had the best pricing for the best furnace. He was not super quick in getting the proposals back, but it is the busy time of year for HVAC companies. Once we decided on the furnace of choice, and got dates for install, MIke's installer came 3 different days for each of our installs. He was on-time, cleaned up after himself, and was very thorough in his explanation of what he had done, and how to use the new thermostat. Each of us are thrilled with our new furnaces, and MIke is our new go-to HVAC guy.
