The joinery, and side rail brackets, on the vintage day bed were pretty much all broken and/or non-operable. I made new joints and used special fasteners, in very low profile inconspicuous places, to assemble the day bed. I filled a few deep gouges on the headboard and smoothed out a few sharp edges on the side rails. All in all - a wonderful success and the customer was thrilled with my craftsmanship.

I sent Marcus pictures and he gave me an estimate via text. I arranged to meet him at his shop and he explained thoroughly what he planned to do. He used pocket hole joinery to stabilize the dresser, which wobbled dramatically from side to side. Then, he re-glued the drawers and added support. To finish things off, he added a coat of polyurethane to the top. He took about two weeks to finish the project and his final price was within his estimate range. When he finished, he had another job near my home and was able to personally drop the dresser off. Very convenient. The dresser looks great (see the picture). I will use him again.
Description of Work: My wife and I found an old dresser that matched one handed down from my grandmother and we bought it on impulse. Unfortunately, when we got it home we realized it had structural issues and the drawers were in bad shape.

The vintage dresser I restored was really a wonderful piece. I disassembled the top, sides, face frame and back. I reassembled the entire dresser making sure that all joints were rock solid as well gluing up the three drawers. I prepped the dresser and applied a couple coats, sanding between each coat, of gloss urethane. The end result - PERFECTION!

Unwilling to relegate a pair of elaborately carved, century old armchairs to the scrap heap solely because one had a shattered front leg, I turned to Angie's List in a desperate attempt to locate a skilled wood craftsman who would be willing to attempt the impossible, and fortunately located Mr. Marcus Sroge of Easy Does It Furniture Repair, Restoration & Custom Carpentry. The challenge was threefold: to repair the broken chair to ensure it was both attractive and serviceable for its intended purpose, to minimize the appearance of any visual differences between the original, undamaged chair and the repaired chair, and to do so for a reasonable price. Mr. Sroge accomplished all of these objectives to my complete satisfaction. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: After many months of searching, I had come upon, at an online auction, just the perfect pair of vintage Victorian armchairs upholstered in matching velvet fabric I had in mind to complete the furnishings in my period living room. Tragically, one of the chairs was delivered with an irreparably broken leg, and the auction house refused to provide anything beyond a partial refund. A furniture repair shop local to my area rejected possible restoration work as too complicated and excessively expensive to undertake, and advised me to simply discard the chairs and begin a new search for another pair of armchairs, which I did not have the heart to do.

I had to source two new Queen Anne chair legs for this chair restoration. The legs I found were not a perfect fit. I had to size, modify and shape two new maqtching front legs before installing them on the damage chair. The two new legs had to be cut to perfect height, pitched correctly and stained/sealed to match the rest of the chair frame. This job was not for the faint of heart. I took my time, was as meticulous as an orthopedic surgeon and did it right. The customer - she was thrilled!

I refinished two arm chairs using a commercial grade dark cherry stain and sealed the chairs with multiple coats of urethane - sanding between each coat of stain/vanish. The sanding between each coat of stain and urethane varnish produced a really smooth high gloss finish. The two end tables were a total strip sand, and refinish. I stained both tables using a commercial grade Early American stain. The natural wood grain really popped and looked fabulous. The finished pieces looked showroom new! Really nice furniture to work with!!

I felt it went very well. The work done in the shop was turned around quickly. The work in my home was done as scheduled. I found Marcus very easy to work with, creating manageable schedules, keeping me posted and meeting his schedule as planned. All of the work was very high quality.
Description of Work: I had moved into a new (old) home recently and there were wooden kitchen cupboard repairs, window sill cauiking, air conditioning return installation, the repair of several folding doors and other general repairs whichneede to be done. In addition, the wood of 8 DR chairs, 3 bar stools and a couple of small side tables needed to be either refinished or refreshed at the shop.

The customer retained my services to refinish an heirloom end table and set of four high boy chairs. I also touched up (matched color, stained and sealed) numerous pieces of her high-end furniture and made several repairs to the customer's kitchen cabinets. All went very well. It has been said - "you are only as good as your client." The customer knew exactly what, and how, she wanted things done and was very hospitable. Success***

The hutch was huge, as in MASSIVE, and could not clear the freight elevator. It was very solidly built. I examined the joinery on the hutch top to bottom and finally identified that the bottom assembly, feet and trim/molding, could be carefully removed. This was not a job for the faint at heart - lol! The hutch was an absolute beast, but I got it done and the client was thrilled! What can I say - success and another very happy client.

Marcus picked up the dresser and brought it back to his workshop. Marcus stripped the paint, filled in the spots that needed it, sanded and painted the top. He was unhappy with the initial result, but kept working on the dresser until he got the results he wanted. He dropped off the dresser,, and we were very happy with how it turned out. It looks like a brand new dresser,

The 12 feet, and framing, of the two sofas that form the sectional were damaged...virtually beyond repair. I had to open the bottom facing to access a variety of repairs. I used the most industrial fasteners, new lumber, exterior grade glues and clamps to make the multiple repairs. The sectional is now on very firm footing and I am very pleased to say - I have another very happy customer.

I repaired and/or restored a total of eight chairs that were in need of serious repair. One chair, I learned upon delivery, was once in Abraham Lincoln's office. I could not believe it. The client showed me a certificate of authenticity that featured a photo of the exact chair. Indeed - the chair truly was once in Abraham Lincoln's office. All I can say is....WOW!!

He came to my house very promptly and returned a very sturdy coffee table and rocker within a day! He then worked a miracle on my chairs. You cannot even tell the one that had been badly broken from the others. He not only made them all very solid again but he got rid of the scratches and restored the oak beautifully. He made me 5 new wooden seats which my friend will help me cover. I consider Marcus an artist who has a love for his work and many creative solutions for any restoration job that comes his way. He returned everything well before Easter and checked in with me to see if I needed help with the seats. Marcus is a real professional. His price was fair and his work was masterful. I have a hope chest for him to help me refinish and I am really looking forward to putting my grandparent's furniture in the hands of someone I can trust to do the best job possible .
Description of Work: I have an oak table and chairs that are over 100 years old. The chairs are quite rickety and the cushions are shredding. One chair was broken into several pieces and I had been advised to throw it out. I also had a children's wooden rocker and a coffee table that enthusiastic relatives managed to break. I called Marcus one week before Easter.

Marcus provided excellent service. He was prompt with getting back to me and setting up an appointment. The modification and repairs to the chair took less than one week. Marcus removed the old seat and replaced it with a sturdy wooden seat to match the chair and accommodate weight from sitting for years to come. He also touched up the nicks and scratches. The end result is wonderful. The chair looks almost new and is comfortable to sit on.

Marcus did a great job. I bought this table years ago from ebay and it was in horrible condition. Bumps. Bruises. Paint marks. Scratches. Gouges. I knew someday it would get restored, but I thought I would be the one restoring it. Unfortunately, I never found the time. Fortunately, I found Marcus after I moved here to Chicago. He was able to bring out the natural grain of the wood and brought back the original luster to what I had imagined it could look like when I bought it. Kudos!

A wonderful teak drop-leaf table to refinish! I stripped and sanded all components (top, side rails, legs and X3 leaves) of the table before refinishing it. The teak grain was absolutely gorgeous. I applied multiple coats of Danish Oil which helped the grain "pop" and the color proved itself to be truly amazing...beautiful. P.S. Danish Oil is a penetrating, low luster, finish that seals hardwoods from moisture and mildew.

It went extremely well. Marcus was very flexible and responsive in the scheduling phase and came out within 4 days of first contact. He was friendly and did an excellent repair on the couch. Marcus was wonderful to come to the house check out the table, then schedule a time for pick-up, service and delivery. He was ethical, punctual, direct and his work is very good, clean and professional. I will definitely reach out to Marcus again for any upcoming work in the house. I also thought that he was fair and reasonable with his pricing, we knew the table was going to cost a significant amount to refinish, but we felt that of all the options we thought that Easy Does It Furniture was proper in their pricing, I feel good about the money we spent, time it took and the final outcome! We love our new table! Thank you Marcus!

We were very happy with the service and quality of work.
Description of Work: I had a nightstand that belonged to a bedroom set that had family value to it, but it was badly scratched up and needed some TLC. The set belonged to my daughter's grandmother, so we wanted to try and keep it. I found Marcus and contacted him and had a response within 24 hours. The price was inline with other refinishers and he was willing to pick up and deliver. He was was able to match the color to the bed frame perfectly and made all necessary repairs. It looks amazing and we are very happy with the quality. In fact, b/c the bed frame is so old, it ended up breaking the day before he delivered the night stand, so we had him take a look to see if it could be repaired. He was able to quote me on the spot (super reasonable) and took the side rail with him to be repaired and be more secure than how it was originally built without compromising the craftsmanship! We will definitely use him again!

Couldn't have gone better. Marcus showed up early, was very professional and an over all good person. The customer's stairs, leading to the second floor, had pulled away from their supports and stair stringers/risers. I had to disassemble 2 - 3 stair treads/risers, re-position two stairs back to their original location and secure everything back in place. A part from the bathtub faucet fixture was broken beyond repair. The part, which diverts water to the shower head, is no longer made. I had to fabricate a NEW part, from my personal inventory of hard to find plumbing parts, to make the repair. The repair was a wonderful success. This customer was the best of the best! She, her husband and dog Bruce (lol) were very welcoming and hospitable.

Marc had a good attitude, showed up on time and handled the work like a pro. His whack sense of humor aside he did a good job and priced it fairly.

The tech cabinet with splintered wood on the bottom, well Marc came up with the idea to trim this basic black unit with wood that matched the floors and made it look like a piece of furniture instead of a black plywood box.

Response from Easy Does It Furniture Repair, Restoration & Custom Carpentry
The Zero Gravity chair was pretty much in shambles and inoperative. I had to disassemble the entire chair and installed new bolts/fasteners to the glides, seat and back supports. I went over every part of the chair to make sure every working part was in good working order. Thank you very much for hiring me to repair and restore your Zero Gravity Chair. I really enjoyed working on it and giving it a new life. Again, thank you!
