Description of Work: I cannot reccomend Chip highly enough. I have an condo in Chicago but live in New York. Chip was recommended by one of my employees as I was having a hard time finding someone I could trust with my beloved condo while living so far away. I have used Chip for interior painting, fridge repair, lock installation and a whole host of other odds ends. Chip always provides estimates up front, he even texts me pictures of his work along the way. And, in the three times I have used him, his estimate has never been raised by a single penny. My tenant is very meticulous and was not satisfied with the work of anyone other than Chip. I would recommend him to anyone without any reserve whatsoever.

Chip's estimate held true throughout the project. He showed up on time, paying special attention to the weather forecast. After all, it was an outdoor project. He was thorough and cleaned up every day before leaving. Without hesitation, I will contact Don Roach Home Repair for any future needs. I already inquired about a small job before he finished the first! His manner is very personable and it's obvious he enjoys what he does as evidenced by his workmanship. Guaranteed, you will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: I had a front entry door in seiously sad shape. Chip sanded the entrance door down to bare wood. He then stained the wood using a special stain requring three coats, then applied two coats of varnish. He managed to save me a substantial amount by removing and polishing my kick-plate vs. purchasing a new one. In addition, he installed a new porch light after returning to the store to exchage the first one simply because I "changed my mind". He replaced the mailbox and doorbells so they matched nicely with my refished door.

The job went really well. It took over three weeks to complete, with Chip and Andy showing up every day at 7:30 AM and working until 3:30 PM. Several times they worked much later to get a particular job done. The job was much larger than I had thought it would be. At first, I was taken aback at the quote, but now feel that the price was a real bargain (I have already started talking to Chip about the next job, painting my back stairwell). This was the fourth job Chip has done for me, and all were done very well and at fair prices. I used the effort to pack up things and take them to the basement, with plans to weed out unneeded or duplicate items. While Chip and Andy were painting, I was cleaning and replacing. I visited a hardware store that had been recommended by Chip to purchase new shades at prices that seemed very fair. The price did not include the cost of materials. I had to buy the paint and painting materials, but I was able to use Chip's account at the local paint store and got his discount. I haven't added it up, but the paint added at least $800 to the job.
Description of Work: Don (Chip) and his helper, Andy, first removed items from each room being painted. Large items were moved to the center of the room and covered with plastic. Next, they prepped the room, putting down painters tape around the edges of the areas to be painted. The areas to be painted were then washed with a TSP solution. The areas were then scrapped to remove loose paint, and in some cases plaster. Where needed a joint filling compound was applied where needed. The walls were then primed with primer paint. In several cases primer had to be applied several times due to the conditions of the walls/woodwork. Then, the topcoat was applied to the walls. The wood trim was then painted, using a different color. The tape was removed and paint was scrapped, where needed (only a minimal amount). The furniture was moved back into position. Chip also installed new overhead lights in my kitchen and bathroom, painted my bookcase doors, and installed the door between the kitchen and dining room, which had been removed years earlier.

The project went better than expected and was well worth the money. Refinishing is truly his forte. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: We have used Don Roach Home Repair for several handyman projects for our condo association. The most recent and most impressive was for the refinishing and staining of four exterior vestibule doors. The doors are probably from the 1920's and were in bad shape due to exposure from the elements. Don did an excellent job in sanding and restaining the doors. He was very meticulous about the color stain he chose and all the details that made the end result spectacular. He removed, cleaned and polished all the kickplates and recaulked the doors There were holes from the old door handles in order to cover the holes, Don suggested a wooden medallion. This detail made the doors really stand out. He started and finished the project when he said in would and he was very meticulous about cleaninng up. The doors really look lovely. So much so, they have served as advertisement for Don's work and other neighbors have hired him to refinish their doors!

Work went well. Due to the age of my building things were a bit more deteriorated than I had realized. Chip was able to work around these problems and give me a great finished product.
Description of Work: Chip (Don's nickname), scrapped and painted all of my basement windows (9) as well as 5 windows in my back stairwell. He also cleaned and painted my rear entrance door.

I had used Chip (his nickname) before for my front entrance. My garage needed painting badly. The entrance doors were original but were in good shape. He looked into replacing the doors to make them more attractive, but recommended against this due to cost. We had a problem with color (not his fault). The color I selected turned out to be too yellow. I got a different color, which I now am happy with. He did his work efficiently and without any supervision from me, once we got the color issue resolved. The garage looks very good now, and I am very happy with the job. I then asked Chip to quote painting my basement windows, which he did.
Description of Work: Primed and painted the facia, windows and entrance doors on my garage. Also did some minor carpentry work around the garage door entrance, primed the trim around the entrance and painted same.

Excellent job. I'll try to attach before and after pictures. My door, as well as the door of my neighbor which Chip also did, look 100% better than before. Chip showed up on time and worked for three days to get the work done. The price was more than fair, considering the quality of work, in my opinion.
Description of Work: Chip sanded my front (entrance) door down to bare wood. He then stained the wood and applied two coats of varnish. The sanding was difficult because of the wood trim.

Very dependable. He is on the top of my list.
Description of Work: Don has done just about everything that I can not do in both my home and my rental property. This includes everything from rewiring outlets and installing new electrical fixtures, to fixing bathroom and kitchen fixtures and snaking tubs, woodworking trim work and painting. His diverse talents make him the perfect person to keep on your speed dial so that when that list of "to- do's" gets too long he can come and do it all. He is very responsive and flexible. In addition he has custom build small cabinetry for my home. He is truely a jack of all trades.

As I described above, I called Don (Chip is his nickname), he called back immediately and asked for more detail. I described the problem, he considered and explained options, we talked about availability for him to do the work, he arrived promptly, got to work and completed the job to the umpteenth degree without me having to worry. He also lets me know before he spends money what he's spending it on. I wouldn't use anyone else.
Description of Work: Over the past six months I've used Don Roach for everything - from drain de-clogging, to basement cleanup after a flood. He's repaired my back fence, fixed my dryer, rototilled my backyard, dug up bushes, built things - he is a terrific handyman. He is courteous, responsive, easy to have in your house, trustworthy, and his work is excellent. He will also tell you honestly if something is beyond his reach - I wouldn't use anyone else!
