Deljo Heating & Cooling

My experiences with them have been very good. I've used them many times. They're excellent. They're always prompt, courteous and professional. They're an excellent company and do very good work.

They regularly do work for us. They come here every year to do routine maintenance and cleaning of our heating system. I think it always turns out fine. The service was great. They are very good. We have used them many times. A year and a half ago they came out to put in a new boiler and hot water heater. They are excellent. If we ever have a major problem we will call them with that.

They did a good job but they're very expensive. I think they overcharged me and advised me that there were a lot of things that were broken that needed to be repaired. They were trying to get more revenue. They ended up not needing to be fixed. But, in general, they do a good job. They could offer a service contract.

They were going to do the job but, couldn't do it. They found the reason why they couldn't do it because, there was something wrong with the furnace. I had them come back and give me an estimate to replace the furnace. I did not use them to replace the furnace. The amount was considerably higher than what I hired them for. They were about $700 higher than the other company. They were very good. I have used them many times in the past and was very satisfied with them. If something came up again in the future, I might call them in for an estimate. I wouldn't write them off.

Well, I signed a service contact with them and I knew several other people that used them so I continue to use them. The service contract I signed means I get an automatic spring and fall servicing of my unit.

I returned from a trip on a Saturday morning to find that my furnace was running, but not blowing any hot air. Since the weather had just turned cold this was a big problem. I called Deljo because they were the company that originally installed the furnace, and I had very positive experiences with them in the past. They answered the phone immediately, and to my surprise, they said they could have someone at my location in less than an hour. I couldn't believe it. But sure enough, within just a few minutes the technician (Mike) called and left a message saying he was on his way, and not long after that he arrived. After some investigation, Mike was able to determine the problem and get things working again. He was extremely friendly and professional, and explained what he was doing in detail. This is the type of great service I'd come to expect from Deljo. And the price was more than fair. This was one of the best service experiences I've ever had. I still can't get over how quickly they were able to schedule an appointment and fix the problem. I literally can't think of any way it could have been better.

They never called back, so I took my business elsewhere and now I have heat.

Woke up Saturday morning to find furnace wasn't working, temperature in house down to 60 degrees and weather forecast of temps from 30 to 50 over the next 24 hours. I have been a loyal Deljo customer for 5 years so I called them at 8:30 am. Despite their claim of providing emergency service, I was told they soonest they could get someone out was Monday. I called another company and someone was over in less than an hour.

We hired Deljo to redirect a boiler pipe in our basement so we can put in a new bathroom. We couldn't have been happier. David came only a few minutes late, after calling ahead to let us know. He showed us the different option we had to redirect the pipe, and we were very happy to have his expertise. The work was done in the time promised, and we are happy with the finished product. I would definitely recommend Deljo to anyone.

After more than 26 years of excellent usage, the two furnaces and two air conditioners in my 26 year-old single family home were showing signs of trouble. I decided it was in my best interests to get ahead of future problems and have a reputable local HVAC contractor install new product. After serious research, I contacted three highly reviewed Angie's List HVAC firms. Each came into my home and assessed my needs, answered my questions and soon thereafter made their formal written proposals. Each of the three firms represented different brands. Each of the three salespeople were excellent. Each of the three proposals were within a $1,000 of each other. In the end, I took the middle bid from Deljo Heating, but in truth I would have have taken them even if their bid was the largest. Why? As a salesperson myself, I felt Andrew from Deljo performed his initial sales visit duties in my house terrifically. While the other two representatives were very good, I found Andrew's desire to understand my needs and to make meaningful suggestions were at the "ten scale." Of course a good sales person is not the installer so I grilled Andrew about the install team and suggested that the installers were critical to my decision. He pointed out that one of their best crews would handle the job -- and you know what? They were. David was the lead installer and I really felt lucky to have this guy doing the work in my home. I won't go through all the details of my experience but I will state: I thought the salesman, the installer duo, the quality of the product, the guarantees from Deljo and the overall value of it all was outstanding. Bottom line is, I would recommend this firm in a second.

I have a year long contract with Deljo Heating and Cooling to service my furnaces and air conditioning units. The office called in June to schedule the cleaning and testing of my two air conditioning units. The company office called the day prior to the appointment to remind and confirm. The technician called approximately 30 minutes to confirm that he would arrive. He checked both units inside and the compressors on the outside. He found no problems with the units but did alert me that bees were entering the house around the air conditioning pipe.

his was a tricky job on roof of my Victorian building. A tall vent stack had broken off in a windstorm. Deljo had to coordinate with a roofer in order to do this job properly. It was a difficult project, not made easier when it began to rain in mid-job. The four guys stayed with the project despite the difficulties and did a terrific job all the way up and down the line. I have used this company for many years in my commercial building and they have never let me down.

I like them except we were asking to buy a new HVAC system and they were way overpriced. When we had somebody else come out, they dropped the price to $13,000 immediately. We just did not like that. It just felt like that was kind of being ripped off. You can drop it immediately to $13,000; that seems pretty unfair.

Our experience with them was good and we would use them again in the future.

An excellent experience from beginning to end. Tim the estimator was responsive prompt and fair. The installer David was prompt, professional, clean, experienced, knowledgeable, and responsive. When you want somebody to do a job, you want somebody like him to do it.

This review is for work performed by Deljo Heating & Cooling in September 2014. I am the board president for a 20-unit condo building. In September, the hot water heater in our building broke and we had no hot water. This event coincided with a chilly Friday afternoon. I called Deljo because they have been our service provider for several years because they are professional, responsive, knowledgeable, honest, and friendly. Todd Peck visited the property personally and submitted a proposal quickly so our board could vote and get the work started immediately. Todd made arrangements to get someone out here by 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday so we would not spend the weekend without hot water. The technician installed new water boiler and pump and a hot water storage tank. He was finished with the work earlier than we expected and hot water was restored. In Chicago, everyone has ?a guy? they call to get things done. When it concerns the heat or hot water in our building, we always call Deljo ? they are ?our guys.? There is a reason they have won the Angie?s List Super Service award for 10+ years.

This is the company you want. They are wonderful. My experience with them now extends to technicians, schedulers, sales staff, and installers. They are all kind, conscientious, and expert at their jobs. For the past two or three cleanings spanning about 18 months, the technicians warned me that there was rust in some components of the furnace and that the unit was past its useful life. When I asked, in February 2014, they arranged for a salesperson to come to my home to take measurements and discuss alternatives for replacement. When the blower failed, they sent installers to my home the very next day to install a new unit, finishing all in one day, just hours before I had houseguests arriving to a cozy warmth. Deljo's workers are punctual. They clean everything up. They are incredibly nice. My upstairs neighbors replaced their identical furnace, installed at the same time, six months before mine died. They paid more than Deljo charged me, even after the additional labor involved in removing and reinstalling the water heater.

Service was prompt, courteous and professional. The furnace is working fine. Deljo will come back this Spring to hook up the air. I have a new HVAC contractor.

I ultimately decided not to go with Deljo even though I have used them in the past and been very satisfied with their service. Here's why... We recently purchased a condo - been living here for about a month - and discovered that two of the bedrooms are significantly colder than the rest of the unit. It's pretty obvious why, too. We have 15' high ceilings and those two bedrooms have one or two walls of exposed brick. Besides the height of the supply ducts being around 12 feet off the ground, the exposed brick walls pull warm air straight of the building. Also, the supply ducts and the the returns and the furnace are a bit too undersized. (Obviously we've learned a lot about HVAC systems.) I suggested baseboard electric heat to Andrew at Deljo and he agreed. Perhaps it was a case of the interviewer or the lawyer leading the witness and perhaps I should have said nothing at all. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with Deljo's approach. Andrew suggested I hire my own electrician (or he would recommend electrical contractors to me) and have someone else do the 240V wiring and that it was not exactly in Deljo's sweet spot and would be more expensive if I had them perform that work. Deljo recommended some high-end electric baseboard radiators from a European maker called Runtal. I've researched them and they are significantly more expensive than many other manufacturers, but very good quality and built to last. Fine. The thing is that Deljo's price was $6300 for the three units, the Aprilaire 700 Humidifier and the duct work. The units and the humidifier total, at retail, about $1700... let's be generous and say they cost $2500. That leaves $3800 in labor to install two returns, a register and install the four units. I'm sorry, but that's insane. Insane. Since I had Andrew out I've had another contractor come in. In an hour, he balanced the output by closing some and opening other registers. It's not perfect, but a vast improvement and that contractor thinks that we'll have substantially better results if we turn our ducts into two adjustable zones and if that doesn't work there are other things we can try before we have to invest in totally different and expensive solution. My objection to Deljo's approach was either the inability or unwillingness to think creatively and suggest an alternative (s) to what I asked for - I'm not a HVAC engineer, I'm a homeowner looking for a viable, affordable, working solution. I expect my contractor to be my advocate and often that might include letting me know that what I'm asking for is the wrong approach. The customer is not always right. Additionally, the other contractor suggested I spend a bit more on a steam humidifier up front and that I'd be much more comfortable than with an evaporative humidifier which, for the most part, perform marginally at best.

I have been using the company for about 10 years. The staff is always on time and the pricing is reasonable. They do a good job, are clean and efficient. I have not had to wait long for them to come out for a service and if you have an emergency they will come out as quickly as possible. It is easy to contact them and schedule a service.

It went well. They were prompt and clean. Good follow up as well to make sure everything was working well.

The control board was the only thing that needed fixed as we ended up getting a second opinion. The control board for some reason was quote $200 higher when Deljo quoted us and they also tried to get us to do their "recommended fixes" which was an extra $600 that really didn't need to be worked on. I will not be using this company again.

Unfortunately I have to write a bad review of my recent experiences with Deljo after using them for a couple of years. Maybe they've had a recent change of management. On their last visit they sent a technician to complete a Gold Star service on my AC units. The technician was very new to the company, didn't understand or have a list of what services he was to perform, and seemed to be very focused on getting me to buy more freon for the units - even though the levels were within suggested tolerance. My work colleague, who also used Deljo, had the same experience. The technician was inexperienced, and told his wife who was home for the service that they needed a pound of freon added to their unit. Unfortunately his wife took the bait and the technician ended up charging them for 2 pounds of freon. Too coincidental and has undermined their credibility with us. Needless to say we're both looking for different HVAC providers.

Dave was the A/C repairman seemed honest and down-to-earth. He took before and after photos of the evaporator coil. He cleaned as much as he could reach with foam spray. The house smells so much better! Since we are not planning to replace the still-running old A/C system, he suggested we purchase RGF that attaches to the A/C vent. He said he has installed one in his own home and it kills most of the germs in indoor air. We will consider it. The service call cost $89 and $248 for level 1 coil cleaning and other minor re-taping of evaporator coil housing to the AC vent minus the $50 coupon = $287. It was much less than I expected. I thought we would be charged level 2 cleaning because the AC system was old.

The installation went well. Two technicians were on time and worked diligently. Work site was left clean.
