 + -1 moreWhen Paul came to give me the estimate, I was very impressed with his professionalism. I liked the fact that this company does an outstanding job with these college students, despite the fact that they need to continually train new students as their staff graduate and move on to the careers they are going to college for. The workers showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves each day, and got the job done quickly, within our tight timeline.
Description of Work: We had lots of knot holes and woodpecker holes in our cedar. They repaired all of them, and applied paint with bug-out to help prevent more woodpecker damage. There were walls up on the roof and even an exterior wall in our solarium that they remembered to get.

Courtney was very professional, trying out different shades of paint we had in our basement to determine the exact match, listening to our concerns, doing her best to schedule us in at the dates we wanted, and responding swiftly to any questions or additional touchups we needed. Her painting crew were great in watching that none of my extensive garden was harmed during their setup, painting, and equipment removal. In all, we are very pleased with the results and would recommend them.
Description of Work: College Works painted the exterior of our home. They did one complete side, touched up where necessary on the other sides, repainted and touched up our pergola, and repainted our deck. This included power washing the entire areas.

 + -1 moreThings went very well. He was timely and organized. I would say the only negative was that cleanup after the job was completed could have been a bit better. Paint chips from scraping were left around the house, otherwise, He was great and I would give a high recommendation.
Description of Work: Kyle Vanwambeke was a good worker and manager. He made sure things were done correctly. He was polite and courteous. They cleaned up at the end of the day.

 + -1 moreThe sales rep was prompt and polite. The real reason I chose not to use the company was simple. He spoke poorly of union painters. I guess I never mentioned to him that I have been in a labor union for well over 20 years. While I do not really car that the company was not union, his bad mouthing of unions turned me off immediately. Therefore he was never in the running to do my work.

 + -1 moreThey did absolutely NO prep work and simply threw pain over peeling pain on 3 sills. The rest of the sills had no peeling paint and just desperately needed a neutral change of color.
Description of Work: Painted 4 exterior doors, the cement covers on the brick front porch and two cover stones on the apron to that porch, and the cement sills on 32 windows for my 2 1/2 story brick home.

 + -1 moreWe are very pleased with the job and give it an Excellent overall rating based primarily on customer focus and value. The workers were not seasoned veteran painters, which resulted in small issues, like small spills and a damaged screen, as well as a longer than expected time to completion. The good news is that the job foreman, Alex Plavnik, was very focused on identifying and rectifying issues as they occurred and did all that he could to ensure our satisfaction. Our house has some difficult ladder setups, so I was glad to see the workers using a safety harness while they worked on the tough to reach areas. A small detractor was that they didn't take the time to capture or cleanup paint scrapings as well as I would've liked. The bottom line is that our house looks great with the job that they did and we recommend them to others and would definitely use them again ourselves.
Description of Work: Stained our cedar-sided 3500 sq-ft home and small garden shed.

 + -1 moreThe sanding, filling and caulking was never done. We were not in town when the work was done which was a big mistake because we were not able to oversee the project. The deck looked beautiful when they were done, but the next summer the stain was already peeling off. I called and they said there was no guarantees in the contract on flat surfaces and there was nothing they could do. We were never told there would be no guarantee on our deck. The product used was terrible. It should not be marketed as a stain. Three years later we are having to redo our deck completely because we have 50% of our deck peeling off. If you use this company read the contract carefully and make sure you oversee the work being done
Description of Work: Sherwin Williams DeckScapes Stain on deck and all playground equipment. Also were supposed to sand, fill and caulk where needed.

 + -1 moreThe painting went OK but I personally spent most of my days while they were working here doing inspections and pointing out areas that were missed. My primary issue was with the caulking which was assigned to an inexperienced recent high school graduate. I personally went over areas on the lower level to remove excessive caulk or added personal caulk to areas missed. Once they stated that the job was completed, they were paid in full. Subsequently, I had a need to go up on a lower roof and found that the upper level of the house, us not caulked at all. I registered a complaint to College Works and about 6 weeks later, two "representatives" came out and spent a full day completing the upper level, including eves. They neglected to bring additional paint and fortunately I had enough of my personal supply to do the touch-up. The representatives cleanup job was not the greatest and next Spring I will be out completing that task.
Description of Work: Exterior application of Sherman Williams "Woodscapes" (paint or stain - can't remember) to cedar siding. Trim, facia, eves and gutters as well as caulking were included. The paint was included. .

 + -1 moreThey are unreliable and do not do a good job. They left spots not painted and they said they would come back out. It took them 3 years for them to finish the job. I would not recommend them to anyone. When they did come back out three years later they did do a good job.

 + -1 moreThis was terrible. They kept trying to paint over areas that were not properly propped - visably peeling and chipping paint that could easily be scraped. They were so inexperienced that they left paint overspray and drips all over the windows, in the screens, driveway, roof - everywhere. The did not handle the lead paint properly at all and I had to clean up after them every day. I'm still finding paint that is bubbling off the siding and they say that they are done. They even put on a whole gallon of the wrong finish of paint and then refused to repaint it with the right paint! The "manager" and "district manager" were of no help whatsoever and just were whining and condesending to our family. This company deserves to go out of business.
Description of Work: I was first approached by the "manager"; and eager youth who sold me on her ability to manage a paint crew. I have an 1800's victorian home so it was a lead paint job (i have three small children). The painters were to follow strict guidelines for working with lead-paint and they did not follow ANY of the laws except not to use a sander. They were supposed to scrape all loose paint then give a full coat of peel-bond before putting on color. When we came home from work the first say they had not prepped a thing, had not put on the peel bond and instead were just spraying paint over the totally unprepped surface!! The manager was not there like she said she would be and this was the start of a three month NIGHTMARE for our family". We suffered through cigeratte butts and lead paint ships in our gardens and walk-ways, broken windows, overspray paint on all the windows and roof, drops of paint on the porch and deck'. Every day was a fight with the workers to do quality work and the manager was never there to help us;. We ended up "managing" the crew for THREE MONTHS and as of today the say that they are done and want the final check but they have not even put the gutters back on and even used the wrong paint in a bunch of places!. THe "manager" was whining to me on the phone today about how "the crew does not want to come back becasue the job was so much harder than they thought that she would have to hire "professional" painters to come in and finish the job"!.During this process I even contacted the "district manager" who came to the house and could not beleive what a horrible job they were doing, left and was not help to us,. I wanted to give these folks a chance - I work full-time have three small children and am in graduate school and like to help people who are helping themselves?. I feel totally scammed by College Works Painting;. PLEASE do not hire them - they deserve to go out of business.

Description of Work: I CALLED TO HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BE HERE AT 3:30 ON SUNDAY. I RUSHED HOME FROM CHURCH, BUT NO ONE CAME OVER. I CALLED THE COMPANY, AND SOMEONE ELSE CAME OUT WITH A CAR FULL OF THEIR FRIENDS.
