In MAy I called Edwin because we had water in the basement coming up from the drains during a pretty good storm. David, his associate arrived on time and proceeded to rod out sewer line starting from the catchbasin. After over 80 feet he hit an obstruction. He tried various claws to break up the blockage but nothing worked. He then sent a camera down the sewer to video where and what the blackage was. He found that the entire sewer pipe had collasped. He then measured where this occured and found that it was actually on city property. David then called his boss, Edwin. Edwin notifies the city and was then told about all the permits and red tape needed to be done to get a city inspecter here and the sewer fixed. Edwin jump thru all of their hoops no matter what it took and we finally had a city inspecter here at the end of July. Edwin was even here with his rodding equipmement and camera in the sewer line ready for the inspecter. All this at no extra charge from the initial visit. Two week later city came and dug up the old pipe and replaced it with a new one.Edwin thanks again.
Description of Work: rodded line from catch basin to city main line. Found an obstruction then sent a camera thru an videoed where to blockage was.

I started calling plumbers from Angie's list about 10 a.m. and mostly got machines. About 11 i reached Edwin at Chicagoland Quality Plumbing. When I explained what I needed, he said he would call me back with a time that I could expect the service man. 10 minutes later he called and said that someone would be here by about 2. At about 1 David called to say he was on his way. He came in, took a look at the problem and explained that all I needed was a new handle. He explained that he would be happy to go and get it, but that the repair was simple and he didn't want to have to charge me the travel time for what would be a five minute repair. He even looked up the closest store to purchase the part I needed and explained exactly how to do it. He left within 15 minutes, told me there was no charge and was on his way. I went out, bought the part and happily, our shower is again in use! What a pleasure to come across someone who wants to help and not simply gouge a customer for money. I will definitely call them the next time I have plumbing problems.

The water heater that services our condo blg went out on a friday morning. It was 14 yrs old so I knew it would need to be replaced. After calling several plumbers, i decided to go with Chicagoland. I had used them previously for a simple faucet installation, and felt Edwin used the most common sense in the sequence of events that he felt were needed to determine if the old unit was finished and ordering, delivering and installation the new unit. A plumber was at our building within 2 hours. The new unit couldn't be delivered until the next morning. But, I felt that was reasonable....given that it was now friday afternoon. The new unit was delivered on Sat am and installation was started. There turned out to be an electrical problem w/the wiring of our bldg. and Edwin needed to call the electrician he used regularly. So the unit was not fully operating until the electrician came on Sunday morning and did the needed wiring to connnect the water heater. Edwin was fully committed to solve our problem and was in constant communication about the next steps that needed to be taken. I felt he was very professional and would recommend his company to anyone w/plumbing needs.I have been the condo president of my building for 10 years and have dealt w/many contractors. He was exceptional.

Very well. The owner returned my call promptly. Later that day the service man called to confirm the next day's appointment. They called to say they were on their way the day of. Was very polite, professional and efficient. A pleasure to work with. The bill came in under the estimate. I used the angie's list coupon--they mentioned it, I did not have to. I would use them again and refer them happily. The best plumber experience I have ever had. A+++

We started talking about this issue back in October or November. Today the work was done. They remembered me in the meantime, which was great! Everything has gone very well.
Description of Work: I live in a home that is 114 years old and one of its bathrooms was in great need of repair to fix an issue causing a leak down into the kitchen. I have finally gotten around to fixing it and Edwin and David have been great to work with. The issues were explained to me very clearly and the solutions they offered made sense. The work was just performed today - new, up-to-date PVC pipes. When I arrived back home the work space was clean and neat. Yay! I still need to decide on new fixtures, so right now I can't comment on how well the plumbing works, but I'm confident it will work exactly as it should.

Water heater wasn't working. I suspected something to do with the thermocouple. I put out a general call to several plumbers, and these guys responded second, but were the most available. They said they could get out there the same day but I had to work, so they pitched Saturday and I said, "yes!" Showed up almost exactly when he said he would, listened carefully to my story, took a look, cleaned the contacts on the thermocouple and reset the whole thing, tested it a LOT, and we were up and running! I asked, while he was here, what it would take to replace the whole thing with a tankless, and he suggested they wouldn't be interested in doing it because we would need extra special venting and that would be lots of work (if it was even possible). I accepted that, and decided to get another opinion (mostly to see if the state of the art had changed, or if I could get a more thorough estimate from an expert). Overall, I was most impressed. They charged me only for the service call (no hourly rate) because he wasn't here more than 15 minutes. Nice touch!
Description of Work: Inspected water heater that wasn't working. Pilot wouldn't stay lit. Cleaned thermocouple contacts. Re-ignited pilot. Water heater started working.

I called Chicagoland Quality Plumbing because I had used them before and they seemed very honest, which is what I value most in any business transaction. The shower in my 1879 row house had dwindled to a mere trickle, and The City of Chicago Water Department tested the water pressure and told me my only option was to replace the old horizontal pipes, a difficult and expensive proposition. Nevertheless, a daily shower is important to me, so I called and spoke with Edwin, explained exactly what I needed, and he said he would send someone the following day. At precisely 2:00 the following day, a pleasant young man came by prepared to flush out the pipes. I explained that no, that's not what I needed. Chicagoland Quality Plumbing had already flushed out the pipes earlier this year and it hadn't helped, so I needed the pipes replaced. He seemed surprised and genuinely confused, but at my invitation he cut open a wall to look at the pipes so an estimate could be given. I was surprised when I never heard back from Chicagoland Quality Plumbing. A few days later I got a one-line e-mail that simply said "Call if you have any questions." It was clear they did not want the job, which is an ongoing problem with this old house. Meanwhile, if anyone knows a good plumber who would like to replace my pipes, please let me know

A written Proposal was emailed the next day , to replace the galvinized pipes to copper. The member said that he had other estimates for this work and would call back, if the price was in his budget . We had done work in the past and he was very pleasent to work for. I though the estimate had a very fare price and we were hoping to hear from him soon, but aparently he did not receive the Proposal. I will give him a call today and I hope to keep his businness.

Edwin was very professional and thoroughly explained the issue and remedy. Was surprised to find out the builder did not install the pump correctly (or should I say took the cheap way out) and did not properly configure the piping to include a bypass and the appropriate valves. The home inspector did not catch this either....hmmmmm....go figure. Although the re-configuration will be costly, my research has shown the quoted price to be fair. Stay tuned for followup review once the configuration work is done in a week or two. UPDATE: Follow up work was just done. I must say they are very prompt and in fact they were a little early. The work was completed sooner than expected and I was versy satisfied with the final outcome. Therefore, the final invoice cost was less than expected. Bonus!!! Friendly, but very professional. This time around the owner sent another employee to complete this phase of the work, but he took the time to stop by and speak with me and make sure the job was progressing to my satisfaction. I was very pleased. No one relishes having to call a plumber, but if I need a plumber again I will definitely call Chicagoland Quality Plumbing and I won't hestitate to recommend them to others. I definitely give kudos for quality and professional work and have been known to scream from the rooftops if I believe shoddy work has been performed or their has been any degree of unprofessionalism.
Description of Work: Needed a plumber familiar with booster pump installation and service. Required a service check for the booster pump (pumps water from outside city lines through all 3 floors of home at same pressure). The pump was turning on even when there was no water being consumed, the reading on the pressure gauge was not remaining steady and there was a leak at one of the joints.

They arrived ahead of time. They then figured out where the problem was and how they wanted to approach the problem. They tried the two different cutters, the large one ended up removing some roots from the pipe. The final cost for sewer line cleaning was $295.

I am very pleased with this company and Edwin is an honest stand-up guy, he and his crew did excellent work and did several of the above items and only charged me for the materials, Edwin did not add any additional labor which I thought was un-heard of, I have worked for a mechanical contractor (we do not do plumbing) and have dealt with plumbers, electricians and many other sub-contarctors over the past 25 years and I must say that Chicagoland Quality Plumbing is the company you want to be doing ANY type of residential work. As I said above, I will be hiring them again. I am completely satisfied and highly recomemmend this company!
Description of Work: They replaced all of the existing galvanized horizontal hot and cold water piping from the service valve (which they also replaced) with new copper piping to each vertical hot and cold piping and installed isolation valves, then they insulated all of the cold water piping to keep it from sweating, they piped in a new hot water heater and installed an expansion tank (water, gas and flue), they replaced the existing sump pump with a new submersible pump with a back up pump and battery back-up with alarm, including a new sump cover, they replaced a section of the main vertical cast iron drain and clean-out tee in the crawl space and pitched it properly towards the catch basin outside, they rodded ALL sewer lines and then ran a camera through the whole system and gave me a DVD. They did find a break at one connection in one section of sewer line which I will be hiring this company to fix and install a vertical form the new connection up to ground level with a removable cap so any future rodding can be done more efficiently. They also re-worked the piping under the kitchen sink to be more efficient, the main hot and cold water piping that they replaced was done in such a way that there were few bends and 90's and ups and downs.

I was not satisfied, my husband called them and said to them a dishwasher and the sink were clogged, they were 2 separate problems, he came out and took care of the sink, and he said he could not do anything about the dishwasher, and it was a very unsatisfactory experience. We assumed that by coming out, he could fix both, and he said he does not really work on dishwashers, and he came out right away.

I checked the discharge hose, and the supply line the problem seem to be from the water pump it would not discharge the water completely. We recommended to have a dishwasher tech diagnose the problem. The only other thing I would of been able to do was to install a new dishwasher.

The last time I called Chicagoland Plumbing was 1/27/2012. Very satisfied with that project so I called again for a leaking pipe attached to my garbage disposal. David arrived slightly earlier than 9:00 a.m. promised time. I showed him the problem, and he set to work. What I thought would be just a simple pipe replacement turned in to a garbage disposal replacement. After about 20 minutes, David called me in to show me what he did. He replaced and tightened the pipe, but while testing it by running water through the disposal, water was leaking out of the bottom of the garbage disposal. This In-Sinkerator is 10 years old. What I like about this service company is that they will fix the problem while they are already in your house. David traveled to Home Depot and picked up the new In-Sinkerator, installed it along with some extra "Y" pipe that should have been there in the first place to keep the garbage disposal debris going down one pipe and the other drain going down another. He was here a total of 3 hours which included the Home Depot trip. I knew that they charge $55 for coming in to the suburbs and that the hourly fee is $95. The only extra on this was the new disposal, and the materials he used to complete the installation.I received 10% discount off the 3 hour labor fee as well. It sounds like a lot of $ but I did get a new In-Sinkerator disposal, installed properly with no more water running out of it. Satisfied again and highly recommended for city/suburbs
Description of Work: Loose pipe running from the garbage disposal caused a dark leak under the kitchen sink base cabinet. Pipe was not the only problem; the garbage disposal was leaking too. Removed and installed new In-Sinkerator disposal along with proper pipes for the disposal and the drain.

The GREAT part I called and Edwin immediately made appt for the next day to see the work needed to be done and give estimate My main concern was an odor, which hopefully removing the toilet and replacing the seal would correct. It was explained to me that there was a $55 travel charge, and then $85 an hr & that I would get a 10% discount. 4 items were put on my "ticket" for the estimate =$320. One item my condo building insisted on doing, power rod the shower drain, so $85 was deducted for $235. My building engineer cleaned the drain in less than 20 minutes. The other items aside from the toilet were remove plug from drum trap and vacum clean, and repair pop up on sink. The appt was made for Wedesday morning. Tuesday morning Edwin called & wanted to send the plumber, when I had explained on Saturday that Tuesday did not work as I had an appt late in the morning. He called me back and said Carlos was fast and would be coming that morning, Tuesday .I was happy at least this toilet problem would finally be over. I told my sleep deprived doorman I was excited that the plumber was now coming this morning, instead of Wednesday. When Carlos the plumber arrived, my doorman never contacted me, and without my knowlege told him to come back tomorrow. I was never called by my doorman, or Carlos the plumber, that he was at the building. All this time I am waiting for him to come with anxiety as I have an appt that morning. Finally at 9:26 I called Edwin & left a message that it was getting too late. I called him back at 9:45, he answered and told me Carlos was there and that my doorman told him to come back tomorrow! I felt terrible, and couldn't believe what my doorman did!!!! NEXT Chicagoland plumbing was very understanding, and rescheduled Carlos for the next morning, Wednesday the original schedule date and time. Carlos & his assistant were on time. They covered their shoes, and put covering down to protect the bathroom floor. He removed the toilet, then he began on the drum trap. The drum trap was cemeneted shut, and instead of letting it go, in hind site as they should have, they repeatedly tried to scrap away the concrete to open it for over 20 minutes, until the tile was chipped. The drum trap was never opening or vacummed. Next the last item on the list was to fix the pop up in the sink. Carlos said he did not have it on his order. I showed him my copy. Then he saw it on his copy. He briefly looked at it, and then explained they could not do anything, they did not have the part, and that I would need to purchase a new plumbing fixture. Had I known this, in other words had Edwin told me this when came to scope out the job that Saturday, I would have purchased a new fixture and had them replace it while they were here for the additional charge. My quote for the work was NOT reduced, even though they did not vacum the drum trap, it was explained to me that they had spent the time working on it to try and get it open. Total time spent on my job an hour and a half. The Next Morning The next morning I opened the bathroom door, and went to sniff to see if the smell was going away. I noticed water behind the toilet on the floor, and saw near the drum trap that the tile had a tiny chip. I called Edwin to tell him the problem & left a voice message. I was mostly concerned about the water as it was NEVER there before. After an hour I called back, Edwin answered this time and was extremely rude, and said I was costing him more time and trouble than he wanted. No apology about the chipped tile, he then said he would give me my money back, and hung up on me. Great, just great, I just wanted to make sure that the toilet was not leaking! I called him back and he said Carlos was at my building, and that they would never do work for me again, and that they would write me a check back for the amount I paid them. All I wanted was an apology, & to correct the water issue and to ONLY pay for the work performed, not work on the ticket/estimate that they did not perform. Carlos arrived and saw the chipped tile, and explained that the water on the tile was condensation for having the bathroom door closed. I then explained I had this bathroom door closed for over a month, as it was not in use do to the odor. I never saw water behind the toilet before, or noticed that the metal flush ometer had water on it. They left......I hope the dripping goes away, if not, I will 1st ask my building engineer to check it out. AFTER THEY LEFT Edwin called back & again said he would again give me my money back. I explained that was not necessary, I just wanted the issues fixed. He then said he would write me a check for the chipped tile. Summary, I could NOT recommend them to my friends because of how Edwin spoke to me! Had he apologized for the chipped tile and been understanding about the water I noticed on the floor, I would gladly recommend them, but because of his awful attitude , I would not want to put any of my friends through that experience. Shame because they were extremely reasonable, and probably better than most plumbers out there, and they do keep appointments, show up on time, cover the flooring, and generally speaking very good. So if I gave my friends the warning that everything on your list may not be completed, then they would be aware. I am realizing that not fixing the sink really disturbed me, because now I will need to find ANOTHER plumber, and pay another travel/service charge for a "new" plumbing job. A for making appointments and arriving on time and keeping them, especially after what my doorman did! A price even though they did not perform the items written on the estimate, the cost to replace the seal on the toilet was very reasonable compared to some other plumbers that could charge $400 C for making work order and then not fixing the items, my sinks pop up C for the plumbers not notifiying me that they chipped the tile F for the way Edwin spoke to me, when I told him I had a problem I paid with a credit card, and after my complaint, I received a check in the mail for the full amount, which I tore up. I didn't want a full refund, I just wanted the work done. I later hired another plumber to replace the faucet.
Description of Work: Services Performed: Removed toilet, replaced seal, put toilet back (other services were written on the ticket to be done for this amount and NOT performed) they did not remove plug from drum trap and vacum, they did not replace pop up in sink 1) they could not remove the plug from the drum trap and vacum clean, because it was cemented in, and/but they kept on trying for over 20 minutes to try to get it to open, resulting in a small chip in the tile, this item was included in the estimate, when it could not be done, my total was not reduced, because of the 20 minutes they spent trying to open it, I was not notified of the chip 2) Also on the ticket was for them to fix the pop up in the sink, which also could not be done, again no reduction in price. I was really counting on them to fix this, and I was told it wasn't on the ticket/work order. I got out my copy of the work order & pointed it out on the ticket. I was then informed it could not be done and I would need to replace the fixture, had I known this in advance I would have purchased a new fixture for them to install (*Note before the plumber came, the boss, also a plumber came out 1st to inspect what work needed to be done, and he wrote up the work order and estimate. Had he told me we can't fix it, you will need to get a new fixture, and we can put it in for you, I would have been good with that, and purchased a new fixture for them to install.)

We (my husband and I) called and left a message with ..Edwin? at around 10:45am and he called back within 10 minutes at which point we explained our exact problem, which was that the toilet was clogged and at the same time was leaking from the base. Having done some research on the internet, it was obvious that the wax seal was the issue, and I think we even talked about this on the phone before giving me the estimate, which (upon asking) was $95/hr + $55 driving fee. I said, "so about $150 then..." and there was no argument, if a repeat of $95/hr + $55 driving fee. I know that this does not bind him to charging that exact price. We'll get to that later. So, pretty soon thereafter, David called saying that he would indeed be here within half an hour and he was right. He immediately set to work after hearing the problem again (11:35am) and was very personable and gracious, even to the point of letting me watch and learn from what he was doing so that I could possibly do it in the future (he was a great teacher). From what I could tell, he was very thorough and had obviously done this several times, which is always nice to encounter. 100% competence. Thumbs up. We even joked around, which made the experience even better. All in all a great experience so far. BUT THEN at 12:55 (1 hour and 20 minutes later), he gave me the price: $275. For what I thought would be around a $150 job. That's not that great, sure, but what really made it bad for me was how it was broken down. Which was as follows: $190 - Labor TWO hours (not 1 hour 20 or even 1 and 30), which I was horrified to hear was a regular practice in that line of service. Then I mentioned the coupon, which broke it down to $171 instead of the actual FAIR cost, which would have been $127 (for 1hr 20 min) - $143 (for 1.5 hrs). $20 - Materials This is how much things shoud've cost if he'd used the ENTIRE product ($19 to be exact), which of course wasn't necessary- we didn't use a whole tube of caulk or a whole bucket of putty- we used a fraction of them but paid enough to have bought them outright. Which I'm sure everybody does, but it doesn't make it right. $10 - Equipment (auger) This one really got me because everyone knew he'd have to use an auger to unclog a toilet. We'd never dreamed we'd get charged this nonsense fee on TOP of what he'd quoted us. This wasn't some out of left field cost, this was an absolute fundamental cost of doing the job. The quote was given knowing exactly what he'd have to do and what he'd have to use to do it. When he told me repeatedly we'd be charged $95/HOUR + the driving fee, not an equipment fee. Even as the smallest fee, to me it is the least justified. $55 - Driving Fee I'm assuming he had to rent a car for this price. Or maybe he drove from O'Hare. I don't know. I want to make it very clear that even with our qualms with the pricing, there is nothing else about our experience we'd take back. David was professional, competent, and on time and I'd suggest their services to other people with the caveat that they look into pricing first. Husband's take: We originally went with the service as we assumed the cost would be around $150. If we had been told on the phone it would end up costing over $250 (it might be over an hour, we round up the hours, auger fee, materials, etc) we would have NEVER paid it. We would have DEFINITELY done it ourselves. Weighing up $50 to go to home depot for an auger and wax seal and fitting it / +$250 to have someone else do it - of course you would choose the do-it-yourself option. Although David was very nice and professional he was out of the building getting the seal from his car for 10-15 minutes and was kind enough to put our new toilet seat on for us - which unfortunately added up to another $95 (20 minutes rounded up to an hour!), which is completely unreasonable. I feel this company should get a C for this transaction, as it would never have taken place if we had known how much it would end up costing, but my partner feels that this is too harsh and so they will get a better score, but buyer beware- the cost of this company doing it is literally 5x higher than you just going to get an auger and a seal and doing it yourself.
Description of Work: Unclogged the toilet, replaced the wax seal, and re-sealed around the toilet with caulk. Oh, and put my new toilet seat on.

David charged a extra hour because he past an hour of service. We never have had any complaints about our rates. I am sorry that this price was upsetting to you, I would of instructed him to waive another cost. I wish that you would of called me before writing all of this. We are very fair to our customers.

I called Chicagoland Quality Plumbing based on the reviews in Angie's list the day after our water heater leaked gallons of water from our upstairs storage area into our kitchen. I called to get a quote from numerous repair agencies, and Edwin was the first to call back to inform me he could come by to assess the situation before providing a quote. He was there by 9:30 am, and I placed the call about an hour prior. His responsiveness was outstanding. Other companies quoted amounts at least $100 - 200 more than Edwin's quote that he provided after visiting our condo. Edwin's team did a great job of dismantling and removing the old water heater as well as building a new structure that was much safer. We had a new hot water heater installed the same day; however, we had issues with our shower receiving pressure and hot water after the old pipes were flushed. Edwin came back and continued to work on our shower pipes until hot water was fully restored. I felt like he went above and beyond to ensure the job was done start to finish. Edwin was very careful to follow proper condo association protocol the entire time for our benefit. He worked effectively and efficiently with our condo management team. He and his team were very professional, showed concern for our situation and were very friendly and trustworthy. I hired him the same day to resolve drain issues at my rental property - both in Lincoln Park area. I will continue to use Edwin for other repair or remodel projects we have.

Description of Work: I was having new countertops put in and needed the sink, drain, faucet and water purifier installed after the countertop man left. They were very prompt in returning my call and accommodating my schedule. They had a man there a couple of hours after my countertops were put in , and everything was hooked up in about an hour. I would not hesitate in calling them again.

My original plumber was scheduled for 01/25 to install a new vanity, countertop/sink and faucet. He called and rescheduled for the next day and then never showed up or called me. I searched Angie's List again. The replacements had to be done since the piping had been leaking under the old vanity for a long time. The base cabinet had water damage and was disintegrating. I had the boxes in my family room and wanted this project done! In any case, Chicagoland Quality owner Edwin Flores responded to the email I sent the same day, and I called him. I was concerned that they would not travel to the NW suburbs, but that was not an issue. The email provided an estimate of $315 for the work. He was able to send Carlos on Friday 01/27 The appointment was for 9:30 a.m. and Carlos arrived at 9:15 a.m. We discussed the project briefly, and I left him to his work. He was careful to protect the wooden floors near the bathroom with a drop cloth as well as the bathroom flooring. He removed all the old materials and started to install the new ones. When it came to the faucet, he discovered I had purchased the wrong size. Carlos went to my closest Home Depot to return and purchase the correct size since I had no available car that day. That took away approxmatley 1/2 hour from the project but it was considerate and much appreciated by me. He completed his work within approximately 3.5 hours including the trip to Home Depot. The final cost with parts which were NOT a part of the original estimate, was $373 which included the 10% labor discount. I am completely satisfied with the installation of all the items and would definitely use this plumber again in the future. The price was very fair considering the owner gave me a rough estimate without even seeing the bathroom first. It was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend this company to anyone -- city/suburbs.

My problem started the previous evening with a clogged garbage disposal drain that I thought I fixed. The following morning the disposal drain was draining slowly again and now the 2nd sink drain was also backed up. I tried to snake the 2nd sink drain but the plastic snake broke right through the metal p-trap. I called Chicagoland Plumbing and gave my information to a woman who said a tech would call me within the hour. I got a return call within 45 minutes and the technician said he could come by within the hour. This was better timing than I expected. Carlos arrived and I explained the situation to him. He immediately replaced the broken p-trap and got to work on what I thought would be a simple unclogging of the disposal sink drain. Turns out the clog was much worse than he or I anticipated. He suggested rotting the drain back to the wall to clear the clog, otherwise my drainage problems would return. He quoted me their flat rate for performing this service (approx $255) and I was fine with that. It took a LOT of time given some issues with our bldgs plumbing back at the wall and a few trips back down to the truck for additional tools but he finally got everything clear. He also pointed out some cracking problems with my garbage disposal and noted that the disposal would need to be replaced in the future, but it would hold for now since I wasn't ready to replace the disposal just yet. He put everything back together and cleaned up the sink area nicely. Since it took so much more time to clear my drain than I initially thought, I was concerned the price he quoted would be higher (I've dealt with too many shady bait and switch types in the past) - but it wasn't. I paid exactly what was quoted. :) I was very pleased to be able to get my kitchen sink back working within hours of my initial call and will be using Chicagoland Plumbing again.
