Chicago Estate Repair and Liquidation

I bought a deal on Angies Big Deal. Scheduling went well. They were a bit late showing up to the job but not a big deal. The father was very responsive and assertive. The son did what he asked. The light was installed with a gap between the fixture and the brick wall, which they informed me of after they were done with all of my work. They told me to go buy silicone from Home Depot, which I did but the gap was so large (1" or more) that silicone won't work. It was a real problem because there is electrical there and with weather, water/snow would easily get back there. The PVC work was done well, and it wasn't exactly an easy thing to address. Understanding this is a handyman service, i was still surprised at some of the things they were asking me to supply to do the work. It felt like they were essentially just labor without relevant tools. I also felt uncomfortable with them in general from a personality standpoint.

It went fine and I'm generally satisfied with the work.

Jose and his son are great. Very professional, thorough and thoughtful. Good, honest people who do good work. Willing to help on anything. I would recommend them.

It never happened. and we moved so we lost our money and had no services performed.

Scheduled work. Tony(?) arrived and said he was only there for an estimate. Rescheduled w/company for a time when my husband would be available,but then had to reschedule. Call back to schedule, Sarah said fine. Then she called back and said they don't come to "that" side of town,their work is mostly on North side and she said she wasn't coming to "that" side of town at night, although we didn't ask for a night appointment. Sounds like racism, classism to me.

They installed a pot rack we had ordered independently that arrived with grossly inadequate instructions that would have caused damage to our ceiling had we done the work ourselves. They went out and purchased all the needed hardware and installed the rack correctly and it's been functioning perfectly ever since.

It went very well. Jose and his crew were honest, professional, and brought all the tools and supplies needed. They were a team of three and worked continuously till 9pm at night to finish the job. They came back once again to finish up where they needed to finish up the work. We were very satisfied with them and I would use them and recommend them.

Quick clean, professional installation

This was a terrible experience. First, when he came out we made a list of items that were to be completed: a drywall patch, fix and patch some dropping curtain brackets, paint over an old water stain, and patch some trim. He said it would be 3-3.5 hours to complete all of the work, he made a list of materials to bring, and we agreed on a fixed price. The contractor had to cancel the first day, so we rescheduled for the next week. When the contractor came, he actually spent 5 hours and did not complete all of the work. He didn't patch the trim, nor did he paint over the old stain he said he would. The work he did do he left without painting, so we now have to find another contractor to come in and finish the job he started. At the beginning of the day, one of the workers was asking for matching paint and at the end of the day the main contractor was telling me that they didn't do any painting. In his words "I don't even carry a paint brush." Never mind that we specifically had listed a number of painting tasks when he made the estimate. They did not properly clean up their work. The mud they used in their drywall patch wound up on the walls, on a mirror, and under a dresser (which they moved to try and cover it up hoping we wouldn't notice). What they did do didn't work. One of the curtain rods they repaired ripped out of the wall within one day, creating a much larger problem than we originally had. When it came time to pay, the contractor tried to stiff me by asking for $100 more dollars than we had agreed to because it took more time than he had anticipated....even though he didn't finish all of the work and there were no surprises in what he was doing. Eventually I convinced him to take the original amount, but it was very unprofessional.

They were great. I would use them again. They were quick and efficient. They cleaned up after themselves.

They were very prompt, friendly, and efficient. Gave me some good suggestions too.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and once they finally came it was fine. They don't answer the phone in their office and the appointment was scheduled with my by text, which was fine. But, the guy did not come within the time window that was scheduled. I called again and was told the appointment was the next day, even though I had confirmation for this day. He finally came and it was great, but it was difficult to get him here. The work was great, but it was just the customer service on the front end.

Stacked our washer/dryer and added dimmers to 3 different rooms... Very professional and quick. Included in cost was extra fee for electrical, which was quoted up front and the cost of the dimmers. They did an awesome job!

I liked them. Jose and Paul (father and son) were very punctual. they went right to it. the installation was a bit more difficult than I expected since railings had to be cut, holes had to be drilled into the tiles and the closet opening was apparently not leveled. I know they worked hard the entire time they were here. I had originally paid for 2 hours via Angie's list but I know they worked a bit more than 4 hours so I offered to pay more for the extra time. They hauled all the debris away with them including the old doors and the boxes for the new doors.

great job, on time, fast, polite

Not good. I do not recommend others use this company. Due to physical health conditions, I am unable walk around much. After this company had initially completed the work I was only able to glance at the completed work, such as in the basement which initially looked clean to me. Therefore I initially thought they had done a good job overall. However, after later thoroughly inspecting the work, I found many concerning issues. Below are a few of them: 1. I found they had damaged some of my husband’s tools beyond repair. 2. I found they never put the wheels on the industrial shelving I hired them to set up in my basement. This means it will be nearly impossible to properly clean my basement. 3. They didn’t properly paint the walls. In one of my bedrooms I hired them to paint the walls a cream color. After their employee, Jose, completed an initial coat, I requested he paint it again because the old green paint on the wall was showing through. Jose then said he couldn’t put on another layer because the paint may peel. I later found Jose also did not apply a needed second coat in my landing a stairway area. 4. They damaged my railing. I found an employee of this company had stepped on my railing to paint some places, rather than using a ladder. This railing is now starting to come out of the wall and needs to be repaired 5. My ladder was replaced with a ladder in poor condition. I’ve had a regular 6 foot aluminum ladder that has always been in very good shape. The ladder this company left at my home is definitely a workman’s ladder, with paint and dirt all over it. My aluminum ladder was never in the condition of the ladder they left in my home I talked to the owner of the company, Sara, about these many issues as well as some others. She is a very smooth talker and tried to talk her way out of all concerns I brought up. Sara also insulted me by asking me if I was on meds, which I felt was an insinuation that I can’t think clearly. Again, I do not recommend anyone else use this company.

They did a great job. Not only did they fix the toilet, but they removed the old caulk from the previous (bad) job.

Great job! Timely, worked fast and efficiently and fair price.

These guys were great! Came in, got set up quickly. Diagnosed the problem and fixed something I had been working on for several hours with little success in a half hour. Highly recommended.

Sarah was terrific in scheduling and keeping me in the loop with any updates. John and Jose did a great job. I plan on using them again very soon!

The hot water tank went out. It had been out for months on the second floor. I thought it was going to cost a fortune and take a long time. It only took one day for the contractor to complete it and fix the plumbing as well. They also fixed a broken window.

They both were very nice , hardworking people! Although i really didnt have much done in my home i would definitely call them back for future work in my home; as a matter of fact, He will be comming out next week to upgrade my electrical panel which is currently a mess!!! VERY SATISFIED WITH THE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE THAT JOSE HAS!

I purchased a big deal for handyman services by Chicago estate and retail. Jose and his son were excellent! They were punctual, courteous.and skilled. While Jose's son assembled a bench for my entryway, Jose worked on repairing a cracked wooden door in the guest bedroom. Jose applied wood filler in the crack and then painted over it. The door looks great! Jose then installed crank handles on my kitchen windows. Lastly, Jose looked at the cracked paint on the window and door casements throughout my house as well as some damaged drywall, and quoted a very fair price for the work. I highly recommend Jose and his son and will definitely use them for my next home project.

Jose has outstanding workmanship - could not ask for a more professional job with everything listed- courteous even with all my many requests - given a completion day and finished early - the prices were very reasonable - the quality of work was outstanding - would recommend Jose for any type of job -

All work was performed as promised. Jose and his son were very professional, competent and fair. Work was done neatly and on time. I would definitely use them again, and recommend them.
