We found CEC through google, and contacted the company. From our 1st round of calls to potential auditors, CEC was the most responsive one. So we decided to go with it. Brandon, the owner came to our house and did the blower door test. On the day, he walked through each room, inspected every possible cavities and gaps, opened every single floor vents. He even crawled into the outer area of our attic through a small opening. He took two pictures of each problematic area, one regular and one infrared image. During the process, he answered my questions about what to do patiently. When my husband came home from work, he answered a lot of questions twice. He spent a good 5 hours on our house. A few days later, he sent us a 90 page report detailing every leak with support of regular and infrared images. He analyzed our gas and electricity bills and gave us an estimate of cost of leak and the savings we could achieve through insulation effort. He also compared our leak rating to the average of a house in IL and recommended a target rating for improvement. In addition to the comprehensive report, he gave us a summary report that focuses on the top actions we could do to improve our rating. The report helped us to carry out some DIY projects. In Oct. 2090, we finally decided to hire a professional contractor to thoroughly insulate and seal the house. We were able to define the project scope accurately. We showed the pictures of the problems to the contractors. It eliminated a lot of guess work. While debating which contractor to use and which insulation method/effort gave us the best return, we called Brandon. Again, he was very helpful, and gave us some valuable advise. With the help of the report and the job done by a contractor, our house's leaking was reduced from the initial 3400 to 2140. We have seen a similar reduction in our gas bill this winter. Needless to say, our house is more comfortable in winter now. We would highly recommend Brandon, CEC to anybody who is looking for a professional, responsible energy consultant.
