Checkmate Movers

I NEEDED TO COMPLETELY CLEAR OUT MY MOTHER'S CONDO FOR A RENTER WHO WANTED TO MOVE IN RIGHT AWAY. I CALLED SEVERAL MOVERS FROM THE LIST FOR A NEXT DAY MOVE ON A SATURDAY. THIS COMPANY WAS MOST RESPONSIVE AND HAD THE BEST PRICE FOR A SMALL JOB. THE OFFICE PERSON WHO ARRANGED THE MOVE WAS VERY PROFFESIONAL. THE MOVERS WERE WONDERFUL. THEY WERE CAREFUL, ENGAGING AND REASSURING, NOT TO MENTION ENERGETIC ,ON A HOT DAY. I FELT VERY SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE.

My roomie and I moved ALL the boxes and small stuff before the movers showed up, so all that was left were the large pieces that we couldn't fit in the car (or carry down the stairs). We sent them a fairly detailed inventory of stuff beforehand, and they estimated 4.5 hrs for a total of around $500. Sounded good: three stories down, three stories up into a duplex. The guys (three of them) showed up 15 minutes early, and we were ready for them. They started immediately after we signed the papers. I was amazed at their speed, and individual guys were strapping things onto their backs and going down solo. This was my first time using movers, so it was impressive to see their efficiency while I felt lazy sitting on the window sill drinking coffee. They even had the courtesy to exchange witty banter with us between loads! There was a snafu at the destination in the alley when the truck couldn't make a sharp turn, but they decided just to come in from the other side. Everything was unloaded with the same blazing speed and they took instructions from us where to place the items. There was a heavy desk that the griped about, but we all laughed about it's enormity in the end. 3.5 hrs, so we left them a nice tip (I hope!). The best line of the day from one of the movers: "This is going to be fun. And that's why we can't hang out with normal people."

They were a little late, but they apologized upon arrival (and they didn't charge me for the lost time) and got straight to work. They quickly but carefully loaded the truck. A table wouldn't fit through my door, so they disassembled it and re-assembled it at my new house. They removed a door and replaced it after moving a couch through it. They were were polite and professional, and took care with the items.

The three men arrived on time and were extremely polite -- not only with us, but amongst each other. They were efficient and asked for guidance along the way. Before wrapping anything, they asked which items we preferred having wrapped; therefore, they didn't try to run up the wrapping fee on us. They disassembled the required furniture with care and made sure to correctly put it all back together at the new home. When we got to the new house, they also offered suggestions on how we could help make the move go faster so that we wouldn't waste time (and therefore money). In the end, we only went 15 minutes over the estimated time. I would definitely use Checkmate again.

They sent a three man team which arrived on time and went to work immediately. They were polite and personable and got any instruction I may have given the first time. Even when I mistakenly gave them the wrong directions they took it in stride and help me correct the problem. The move took only 2 1/2 hours which was less than estimated and the cost was better than I expected. Everything arrived at the new location in good condition and arranged just where I wanted it which helped a great deal in getting me set up again.

Checkmate was great! They arrived right on time, they secured all of our furniture with enough padding, and were extremely careful with all of our stuff, as well as the hardwood floors and doorways. I under estimated the amount of stuff we had, which was my fault, but it really didn't take much longer than they had estimated, and professional. Highly highly recommend Checkmate. We'll use them again!

I asked for an estimate on a furniture move. Just a few small pieces, but I cannot move them. The man gave me an estimate for a 3 man crew. When I asked "why 3 men", (given the very small size of the pieces), he actually laughed at me. When I asked him why he was laughing, he said that I wasn't his only customer, and they send 3 man crews out sometimes. Most customers KNOW that they're not the only customer in the world, but it's the special companies that make you FEEL like you are the only customer in the world. List users should know this before calling this company.

They were careful with our furniture. They did good quality work. They were a little tough to get a hold of. I would recommend them to others.

I was very pleased with this move. They covered the mattress and sofa in plastic wrap. I directed what room the furniture went in and they accommodated me and even set up the bed. They were very polite and pleasant to be around.

I spoke with Kevin prior to the move about my needs, truck size, house size, etc. He quoted 3 men @ $111/hr for probably 4 to 5 hours (so total of about $555). Prior to the move, Kevin asked about the house size and the size of the truck, saying that he questioned if the truck would be large enough. We discussed that issue and I asked if he would be able to take any goods that wouldn't fit in my truck and place in a storage facility located by their office. He agreed. The loading of the trucks went rather badly. Checkmate was scheduled to show up with the 3 people at 2:00 PM on the move out day. Instead, they showed up at 5:20 PM with 7 men. The supervisor was driving the guys to work very quickly. That might have been ok, except they were pretty disorganized and 2 of the men didn't appear to have any training. Two of the more experienced guys loading the truck kept telling the guys unloading the house to "slow down" since furniture was queuing up on the street...and it was raining. Also, they didn't wrap all the furniture before moving it or taking it out of the house. This is my biggest complaint. So, the furniture was damaged, dirt & smudges on light colored upholstery, dings & scratches on wooden furniture, water stains on some wooden antique items. The experienced guys on the team did a adequate job. The leader knew what he was doing when handling furniture himself. But the group needed much more coordination and 2 of the guys didn't know what they were doing. o be fair, one factor that added confusion to the mix was that there were certain items that we needed on the truck, while other items could be put into storage if they didn't fit on the 1 truck we had. So, that made the choice of which item to load a bit confusing I think that could have inflated some of the loading time. The actual cost of the loading was $905, which broke down into 2 parts: loading of all household goods onto the trucks at the house ($693) and then drive time, insurance and unload time of the household goods for the "overflow" truck ($212). While the dollars were higher than the estimate ($555 estimate vs. $693 actual for loading), I feel OK about that. I think they would have been more efficient without the 2 untrained guys and with more coordination, but that would have only reduced the cost by a modest amount ($50 is my guess). So, I don't have any huge complaints about the dollars.

Checkmate was on time with two men and a truck, and they immediately began protecting the furniture. The move over to our place was quick and they placed the furniture where we wanted. One of the cabinets had been missing a knob before they picked it up, so we secured it (we thought) by taping it inside one of the drawers. However, a day after the move it wasn't there. When I called Checkmate to see if maybe they had found it somewhere, they actually searched their truck and found it rattling around! They mailed it to us that day.

They called to tell me they were leaving and provide an ETA. Three very polite and friendly young men arrived at the storage unit, emptied it and loaded the truck in 1/2 hour. They arrived at the apartment only minutes behind me and immediately began unloading. They were more concerned about tracking any dirt into the apartment than I was, and put down pads outside the door to make sure their feet were clean. They emptied the truck and placed the stuff into the apartment in about an hour. All told, they moved my stuff in less than 2 hours, and were very pleasant the whole time.

They moved this down three flights of stairs and then up two flights. They were very fast, and once they got here everything went great. The workers were very professional, pleasant, and efficient.

The team from Checkmate arrived on time. We had placed no parking signs on the street to prevent people from parking there, but people did park there. So the guys parked the truck in the alley and moved it when they had to let cars get by. The entire team (6) walked through the apartment to review what they were moving. The next thing we knew, they started taking stuff out. They moved FAST. They were also VERY careful with the things that could get damaged...soft furniture, antiques, crib, etc. We were a bit unprepared, but that did not stop them. They just kept right on moving stuff out and we packed as we went. There were some things that we had not planned for them to move. The guys always asked if something was staying or going. Before we knew it, the apartment was empty and we were off to the new house. Once we got to the new house, the team went equally fast. They asked where things went and placed them there. Now, I did not have a plan for all the furniture, so they just put things in the right rooms. I'm sure if you told them, they would place the furniture exactly where you wanted it. In the end, we finished our move in THREE HOURS start to finish. Thank you to Tony and the rest of the guys for a job well done.

They called to let us know they were going to be a little late. They were professional and courteous and took great care with out things.

This was a very smooth move, just about 4 1/2 hours, 1/2 hour less than was quoted us. The movers were professional and very hard working. Nothing was damaged. A great experience!!!

PROFESSIONAL, COURTEOUS, CAREFUL, NEAT AND FAST. These movers were impeccable. There was not any damage nor did I worry about it when I saw how careful they were being with our belongings. I would use this company again and again without hesitation!

They packed up our entire house and moved it. My inlaws saw one of the movers not pack our video camera, and they saw him walk out with it over his shoulder. We don't know which of the five took the camera. The owner of the company just said sorry and that we couldn't prove it had happened.

We originally estimated for moving a 1 bedroom apartment, but it ended up that a lot of the furniture that was to be moved was going to stay. The movers were really friendly, not resentful when I told them the change in plans, and did their job efficiently and under the original estimate of 5 hours which would have been close to $600. They are a really fair and above-board company, and the guys who work for it do their jobs well and professionally. They are highly recommended.

They did everything in three hours. Paul was the head of the team, and he was very professional. They did a really good job.

I phoned Checkmate movers a week in advance of our move. They talked me through all the stuff we had and gave me an estimation of around $525 for the entire move (which I thought was probably a conservative estimate because of all the crap we had!). I booked the move for end May. They turned up on time, efficient, polite, and most of all I cannot believe how fast they worked. I paid by the hour which I think was around $105. There were a few things that got broken but we don't have much furniture of any value so I wasn't bothered. Probably would have damaged more myself if I did the move by my own.

They did excellent work. They arrived promptly. There was nothing lost or broken in the packing and move. They had to carry everything to the 4th floor walk up. They were careful and professional.

Checkmate was able to deal with several unknowns from us about our move. They were flexible and happy to help. Also, the movers themselves were really professional, respectful and nice. I was very worried about our fragile furniture, but it was all padded and wrapped beautifully for moving. I feel like I got great service for a bargain. The end result ended up being $150 more than the quote. Considering the total cost, this was not a lot at all.

I found them on Angies list, and were highly recommended. So I called them up. They were very friendly and had good humor. They had clearly worked together for a long time. They did a good job.

Nothing was damaged. Quick, professional service.
