 + -1 moreIt always astonishes me when a contractor can't be bothered to respond--not even to make a 30-second phone call and say, "I'm sorry, we don't do that kind of work," or "I'm sorry, we're too busy to take on new assignments right now." Instead, they simply ignore you and hope you'll figure it out on your own. Chara Construction may do great work but if he can't be troubled to return calls (not one, but two), I can't be bothered to chase him. In this case, I had a list of projects ranging from the small to the large (and potentially expensive), but I prefer to see how a smaller project goes before hiring someone to do a large one if I can. Guess Chara is happy without me--and I'm grateful, in the end, not to be bothered with him.
Description of Work: Door insulation and potentially rebuilding the front entire door frame.

 + -1 morePaul replaced the baseboards along the north side of my condo which had been damaged from window seal problems. He quickly responded to my call, came for an estimate and scheduled the work. He did a great job and left the area clean and tidy. I highly recommend Paul for carpentry work!

Description of Work: Paul removed existing large glass block window from exterior shower wall on second floor bathroom. Framed exterior wall for new smaller shower window. Installed shower window and redrywalled the shower wall. This job was tricky because the floor-to-ceiling cabinet that I wanted to keep was partially covering the glass block window. Paul (and his assistant) were able to get the old window out without damaging the cabinet.

 + -1 morePaul was easy to work with and seemed to care as much about my house as I did. He was especially careful when jacking-up the beam to minimize wall damage upstairs.
Description of Work: Paul shored the center beam supporting my 104-year-old, 2-story house, removed the old posts, dug out the old concrete footings, created three good-sized steel-reinforced concrete footings (flush with the basement floor), jacked up the beam about 3/4", making the floors above more level and secured three 6 by 6" wood columns.
