Carlos was extremely helpful, patient with all of my questions, professional and courteous. He explained everything to me in detail before beginning the work. He worked with the city to take care or permits and the scheduling the follow up appointment. All work was preformed just as he indicated it would be. I'm really happy I chose Caval Electric!

Mr. Valencia and his crew ( family members) arrived on time. They started the work right away. They were very professional and very polite. You can tell that each and everyone of them knew what they were doing. They worked throughout the day keeping the place clean as they go. They installed the pipe making sure that my roses were not disturbed. Mr. Valencia took care of getting the Electrical Wiring Permit. Electrical work makes me anxious since I don't know much about it, but meeting and talking with Mr. Valencia and his son, Carlos, Jr. made me feel very comfortable. Both were very knowledgeable of Chicago City codes for electrical work. After meeting with them, I knew I chose the right company to work with. I will surely use their service again. Excellent job; friendly people and left my yard clean and in order.

The overall experience was great. I first spoke with Carlos and he had his son in to troubleshoot within 24hrs. Carlos Jr. lied me through what I did wrong and made recommendations for future DIY projects. Cabal's speed, punctuality, and price were all great. I'll definitely be having them back for additional work (i.e. Repairing my work) for sure.
Description of Work: Troubleshoot some work I did myself over the weekend. I rewired an outline and ran new conduit. Upon completion, the outlet worked just fine but the refrigerator didn't work. I missed a neutral connection when refitting the new outlet. I also had them replace a switch and rehang a switch box.

This is our third time using Caval and they've been great every time. They do a fantastic job and pay attention to little details that just make their work shine. Beyond being extremely talented electricians, they're really nice guys. They spent about 4 days at our house working on three major projects and my husband just really enjoyed having them around.
Description of Work: Combined 2 electric meters, moved electric meter outside, combined and moved circuit breaker boxes, replaced electrical service wire to the house, installed a new ground, modernized wiring in garage, installed new light fixture, pulled permits.

Called on Sept. 19 at about 11 AM for estimate; came out later that day about 4 PM. It was father and son, Carlos Sr. and Carlos Jr. that I did the walk-through with. Carlos Sr. took notes on what I needed done. Father and son talked a few minutes and wrote up their price. They just wrote what they would do and the price on the back of their business card. I had two other estimates already but I called Caval Electric the next day to schedule the job with them. We scheduled the job for Sept. 25 at 9 AM. Carlos Jr. called at 9:15 AM to say they were running late. Carlos Sr. and another worker (did not catch his name) arrived close to 10 AM; Carlos Jr. told me he would he would be there around 11 AM (and he was). They let me know when the power was going to be turned off. I went down to the basement here and there just to see how it was going. The guys were talkative amongst themselves about the work etc. They answered my questions anytime. About 1 PM they took a 1/2 hour lunch break. Job was completed at 4:30 PM. They replaced the breaker panel and ran a dedicated conduit pipe for the microwave upstairs. They labelled all the breakers when done. Did a final walk-through with Carlos Jr. to see everything they did. They also replaced a broken socket on a tube light that I had in the basement and it was just included in the service. Guys were nice and professional. There was just a little dust and debris that I cleaned up after they left. I would use this service again.

This cost included all of the parts and labor. They even wired the new AC unit we had purchased. They did a really good job explaining what they were doing step by step. They were very thorough and pleasant. Carlos was the one who did the work, and we are very satisfied with the end results. The entire project was completed in a very timely fashion. He was by far the least expensive electrician we spoke with.

Contacted Carlos for help after our landscaper hit existing electric line when planting a tree. He and his father Carlos SR. came over within the hour since they were in the area that day. He gave my husband and I a quote to replace the line and incase it in steel so we would not have this happen again. The following day at 9;30a.m. both Carlos's and another gentleman arrived. They worked straight though till about 2;30p.m. I was so worried that my yard would be a mess and my shrubs would be damaged. But, they showed us how they would run the line and we would not lose anything. After they were done I could barely tell they had done all that work. My tree, plants, and grass looked great. And my electricity works perfectly in the garage again! These guys are the best. Polite, friendly, honest and neat. They even put down a runner on my unfinished basement floor for going to and from the electrical box. They turned a potential nightmare into a walk in the park.

The electrician showed me that the outlet was dangerous and had started to melt down inside wires. I saw the items that he replaced , he gave them to me and said that the faulty wiring could have started a fire in the wall. I had told him that I was smelling electrical burning and that is why I called this number from Angies List.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 overhead closet pull string light fixtures and replaced an out of date outlet in a bathroom with an up to code outlet with circuit breaker that will turn off electricity to the outlet, in case of an overload or any dangerous reason.

These are hands down the best electricians I have EVER come across in Chicago. So often I find guys who cut corners, use shoddy product, speed through their job--and most customers are unaware. Not me. My great-grandfather, grandfather and dad were all electricians. I've sat next to them as they wired entire houses. I know just enough to get myself in trouble*as my dad liked to say*. I've been using them exclusively for about six years now. Found them on Angies list. They have run the gamut from small jobs like installing interior/exterior light fixtures to large jobs like rewiring an entire house we rehabbed, removing an old fuse panel and replacing with a sub panel, running conduit through walls to supply heated floors in a bathroom, wiring an entire second floor for ceiling lights. Its come to the point that I don't even have them come give me estimates. I just call and say " Carlos, we need "x: " and he fits it in whenever he is coming north (we are in Glenview---they are located way south). I've seen a couple of these comments where they say that he doesn't call them back. Here is my two cents on that; this is not a business where these guys have the luxury of sitting at a desk scheduling appointments. Often they take the call while sandwiched in a crawl space, hanging from a harness, precariously perched on a ladder ----on the off chance this is an emergency they pick up the phone. Do they return most calls? Absolutely. Do a couple get lost? Sure. Unless you have worked that kind of job its tough to comprehend. As the daughter of a union laborer I've stood next to my dad as some women read him the riot act for not returning her call. My pop would humbly hold his head down and accept her ire. Unknown to her---there was an electrical fire at a restaurant and he was called to help. No. She didn't want to hear that. She just wanted him to apologize-and from what I see here, that is what Carols and his dad are doing. No excuses. Just an "I'm sorry". If you call a large business that can afford to pay a secretary to answer the phone - you get a guaranteed call back and that cost will be reflected on your invoice. Even as a regular customer Carlos has forgotten to call me back before. I get it. I lived it. I'm the daughter of a blue-collar guy. I don't bellyache over it---i just call him back. It isn't personal. It isn't unprofessional. Its the reality of dealing with a very small family owned business working on "the fly". In closing--I would not hesitate to recommend these guys. In fact, I have. To many folks. They have become the exclusive provider of electrical repair services on my street. We have widowers living in ranch homes and large families living in $3 million dollar houses. All trust him. And the cost is the cost. Regardless of how big or small your home. They are fair. They good fantastic work. They are trustworthy and reliable.

I called him and informed him. He said he would come back out and fix them but it will be an additional charge. I never heard from him again.
Description of Work: I hired them to install dimmers in all the rooms of my new home. He did the kitchen and I was very pleased with the type of dimmer he used. I then informed him to proceed. After he had left, I began to notice that the dimmers in the other rooms were not the same as the kitchen.

Carlos responded to my initial phone call in a very timely manner. We had recently replaced the sod in the back yard. The installers of the sod must have nicked the cable underground and therefore we lost electricity to the garage. Carlos was very sensitive to my concern about ruining the newly laid sod. His men actually dug by hand the 18 inch deep trench required to replace the cable and took the time to replace the sod beautifully. I would trust this company with any and all of my electrical needs. Super company.

Great Job from start to finish!
Description of Work: My ceiling fan fell from the ceiling the day before a family function. I called the company based on the recommendations from Angie's List. Not only did they come out the same day and repaired the fan, but they installed two other light fixtures I had sitting around the house for months. They made a very stressful situation go away. I will use Angie's list for other contractors, but I have a forever electrician from now on! Great Job Guys! Thanks for bailing me out!

Starting at 9:00am the work finished up at 3:00pm. After opening up the basement I was able to get back to work in the office while Caval went to work.
Description of Work: Caval Electric returned to help us finish up porch lighting, outdoor electrical and interior lighting. The porch lighting and outdoor electrical are new while the interior work was corrections on work performed by a former contractor. All told it was five seperate projects. Awesome. These guys are TOP NOTCH. I've used them before and now just hire them exclusively. They follow code to the "T". Use all the right products, take their time and do everything right. The price is on the very low end of fair for licensed electricians. And I should know---my dad was an electrician, my grandfather and great-grand father. In fact, my great-grandfather was one of the founders of IBEW 1. I have never had a situation where they have not showed up on time. They are now the go-to guys on our street. Numerous neighbors have used them all with glowing reviews.
Description of Work: Pulled conduit through an attic to add lights to all of the rooms of the second floor of an older home that did not have ceiling lights. Connected those to the existing switches by fishing line through the walls *did not have to open up the plaster walls*. Removed an old breaker panel from main floor and ran new copper line to a new breaker box they installed in the basement. Transferred all the breakers.Completely rewired a room that we gutted to the studs--adding seven outlets, all new wire, and low voltage lighing. Cost is mostly just labor. We paid for much of the high price material separately. This was a big, dirty job. Took almost two weeks.

Every time I called them they were very responsive and were accommodating to work around our schedule. During their installations they were always willing to answer any questions I had, and they went out to get a special silicone that was required to install the exterior motion detector light that we provided. They were very pleasant and had a very reasonable price.

When I called to request an estimate, they suggested a 9am appointment. I explained that I am not yet living at the house and that I live an hour away, so I asked for a later time. They offered 10am, and I said that would be fine. I got to the house at 9:55am, and there were no cars in sight. I waited 20 min with no sign, then I realized they'd left me 2 message on my cell phone, which somehow didn't ring when I was driving over. At 9:20 they had called to say they were nearby, and at 9:27 they called to say they were at 1429 but there was no one home. The house number is 1329, and as I stated before, the appointment was at 10. By now it was 10:23am and I called them right away; I explained that I got there at 9:55 and that maybe they had the wrong address based on their message. The guy was very dismissive, told me he knew he was at the right house based on how I'd described the tipsy electrical meter in our initial conversation, and said that he was now on the road somewhere else. I asked him to confirm which address he'd gone to, and he said he couldn't because he was driving. It's pretty clear to me that the mistake or mistakes were his, and yet as I politely was simply trying to clarify, he was rather rude and dismissive--after going around about the address, I didn't even bother to bring up the fact that they'd showed up 30 min before our appointment, and that I'd explained I didn't live there. The whole thing was highly unprofessional, and I do not recommend that you use this company's services.

They were on-time both for the initial quote and day of service. The work took 4 - 5 hours with a crew of three. They were polite, professional, worked hard and cleaned up after themselves. The price paid for the work was exactly what was quoted.
Description of Work: Caval performed three separate tasks on our 1888 Workers Cottage. 1. installing a new 220 circuit in the breaker box and running a line to a large-scale shop tool. 2. Running lines from the box and installing three separate outdoor light (motion detecting). 3. re-wiring a damaged light in the back of the property.

Friday night I smelled an awful fish odor in the family room. As the daughter, grand-daughter and GREAT-granddaughter of electricians (my great-grandfather founded the first electrical union IBEW 1 in St. Louis) I knew that meant that something electrical was burning. I traced it to a three way switch that was hot to the touch and stinky. I immediately turned off the switch. I called Carlos first thing in the morning and described the issue. They offered to come out right away but I said Monday would be ok (I didn't really want to pay time and a half for the issue). He explained that they would charge the standard weekly rate. How could I say no! They arrived on time and fully equipped. They took their time to check out EVERYTHING to make sure they didn't overlook a frayed wire in the wall, etc. That is the difference between a good and a great electrician. They didn't take this issue at face value--but made sure that there was not any contributing issues that could prove unsafe and cause a fire. After careful examination we all determined that it was the switch. It isn't a common switch so they had to make a trip to pick one up (didn't charge me for the time). They just charged the minimum of $80.00 and I reibursed them for the switch and metal switchplate. Very knowledgable, VERY professional, very nice men (father and son). They even took an interest in my daughters piano playing. The son sat down at the piano and played a tune to the delight of my daughter. I highly recommend!
