Budget Right Handyman

On time and did a great job. Aeron did A+ work, quickly and without a fuss.

Installer (Rob?) was very professional and friendly, seemed like he really enjoyed his job. Couldn't ask for anything more.

My experience with Budget Right Handyman was timely and efficient. Aeron called to inform me that he was available to come early. Which was great but unfortunately I could not get there at that time. Aeron was completely professional and thoroughly check with the unit and its working now. He capped the loose wire in the basement and had time to do one more project. The front outside outlet need to be upgraded to GFCI and waterproof cover, he did this quickly and skillfully. I told him about a door that need some work, he gave me sound and helpful advice. I will definitely call for future service.

I called the company one day and he responded the next day. Set up the time and date to do the work. The work had to be rescheduled because of the weather. On the new date, the person was more than 1/2 hour early, which I appreciated. Aeron went to work right away. It took quite a while for the patio repair to be completed - which was expected. He had to cut and shape the wood so it would look good when he was finished. Aeron asked if it was ok for him to stay late and finish caulking the tub and the tub surround which I agreed to because then no one had to come back to complete this work. With the coupons for the hourly rate, the average hour was exceptional. I would definitely use this company again.

They did a couple of different things, they hang a short shower curtain rod and hang some shelves but the biggest thing was they drilled the mailbox in front of my house. I thought the service was very good. The gentleman was very nice and he seems to have project manager skills. I think the quality was excellent and they were also responsive.

I have used Budget Right once before. It took a while to actually reach someone and to schedule the appointment, but when the work was done, it was good. This rating is not for the handyman - he was great. This rating is for management and organization of the work. My main contact has been Tim, with whom I have spoken on several occasions. My most recent conversation with him was last week, when I asked him to set a time for someone to come by to give an estimate for replacing a door frame. He told me that they didn't send people out just to give estimates for jobs like this. He said I could just tell him what needed to be done and he would give me an estimate. Since this wasn't a quick job and would be about 4-hours plus, I was really intrigued by his answer. It told him what needed to be done (remove the storm door, take off the old frame, replace with new frame, etc). I told him that I would need to see the estimate first, but that he could put me on the schedule for the first available date. He agreed, and we set a tentative date of Friday-October 11 pending my review of his written estimate. As of this writing (10/09/13) I have not heard from Tim - neither by phone or email. This is a consistent problem with Budget Right - very low on the scale of responsiveness. They claim to never get your emails, and they typically return calls when h*** gets close to freezing over. Today, I used Angie's internal email service to send an email to Budget Right - letting them know that essentially I won't use their services (I am inclined to suspect that the agreed upon date was never put on the schedule anyway). I also made 2 suggestions about how they might better service their customers - which I will share with my Angie's List family now. My suggestions pretty much complete this review. (Following is the portion of my email to Budget Right that relate to my suggestions): (written to Budget Right) "...I would just say that as an Angie's List business member myself, it would be a disservice, if I didn't give you my reflections/suggestions: 1) Get organized - don't agree to take on work you have no way of servicing - it's bad business and bad customer service; 2) Hire a scheduler/order taker, and make her/him responsible for the calendar and for following up with returning and potential customers. Also have that person access and route emails from customers, and have them coordinate communication between your handymen and your customers. It is important that you respond to your customers - as opposed to no response at all. - I really hope you are able to get better organized because your people are skilled - but your business reputation is at stake..."

He was right on time and I told him what needed to be done. Looked at each project and knew exactly what he was doing. He explained what he was doing and what would or wouldn't work. He is coming out again next week to do some more work for me.

Ivan was very organized and assembled the furniture in the two hour time I had purchased. He worked neatly and left no mess behind. My only disappointment was that I was charged an additional amount because I was in DuPage county. I should have been told about the extra charge when I made the appointment.

I bought the 2hr special. Told Tim I would like him to change the kitchen faust and unclog the bathrrom tub. He said he did not bring any tools to unclog the tub. With the kitchen faust he took off the sink. Never had to have it removed before to replace the faust. I have a stainless steel sink and after he changed the faust he did not put any putty along the rim to tack it back down. Sink is bent in various places. Had to ask him to seal around the edges. He wasn't doing to do that. He said "It really doesnt need it". I showed him the gaps from him taking it out. He did seal it around after showing him. Thought that was standered practice. Don't think he sealed around the new faust either. The new faust I bought, the sprayer is connected to one of the fausts. The old one ran to a pipe. He didn't have anything to cap the old sprayer connection. I had to go out and buy that myself and connect it. All in all he was nice and in time but they way he worked was puzzling. Still can't get over that he had to remove the whole sink. Wish I knew he was going to do that. I would have bought a new sink.

It took a while for me to nail down an appointment. He came late due to some car issues and couldn't finish the job because some parts were needed. It was a series of mishaps.

The company did appropriate phone set up of the appointment . On the day I was supposed to have the service, one man hurt his back, but they sent another-Aeron to do the job. Aeron removed all items on the sides of my garage. Then swept and power washed. When he was finished, I checked it & asked him to retouch a couple of remote spots, which he willingly did. He left it very clean! I had other companies do it before, but it was "hit or miss". I'd use this company again.

It was a rough start - I called and scheduled for the afternoon of 9/25. Very disappointingly, nobody showed up. I finally was able to speak with them again on 9/27, and they didn't have me in their books. He was very apologetic and did everything in his power to make up for it, which I appreciated. They rescheduled for my next available time, and Aeron came out and was right on time. He took of his shoes and got right to work. He worked quickly and did a great job getting the TV up and recommended where it should be. He had some leftover time so he asked if there was anything else he could do. I was halfway through replacing an outdoor receptacle, so I let him take over and do that. I was very happy with the end result, and with Aeron overall. Even after the scheduling issue, I will be using them again in the future and would recommend them.

Bob did a great job. He removed and installed 2 toilets for me. He was very professional knowledgeable. He even informed me of some tips/best practices which i really appreciated.

It went well as far as fixing what I had a problem with it after they did the service I found out they could have done it far cheaper by replacing the washer. Basically I had to go by based on other plumbers recommendation, new faucets, but then I found out that the washer could have actually been replaced and I didn't necessarily need to replace my faucet that they also took with them, which was something I didn't approve. At the end of the day the faucet is working that is all I can say so there is a little discontent. They charged additional $79 and I also paid for the new faucet material cost and total cost almost $400. I would use them again only in emergency situation.

One of the panels on the door were not put in correctly so I'm still waiting for them to come back to do it. It is really hard to schedule an appointment.

It went great. They were on time, friendly, and professional.

I needed some work done in my condo. When I saw the Angies List coupon for 2 hours of Handyman work from Budget Right Handyman I got it right away and called their number. Tim the manager answered the phone. He was very courteous and helpful. He set up the appointment for later in the week and said Aaron will take care of my work. On the day of the appointment Aaron showed up on time. He looked at the closet door and showed me why it wasn't working. One of the hinges was broken. He offered to fix it and told me what parts he needed. We went to a hardware store close by and got the parts. Aaron went above and beyond....not only he fixed the door, he also put some glue to attach the wooden part that was broken. Since the screws for the hinge were not going in properly he moved the hinge a little further down and made it work. Aaron is a hard working and honest person. Everything was done on time.

Great. Would definitely use Budget Right again. Good service, efficient, quick and at a good price

The service was excellent. They did a very good job, and the workers were on time and professional. I would recommend them.

Work was fine, I was surprised that grouting a bathroom floor would cost $200.00. Bob was a very nice person, just surprised me at the cost. Not complaining about he work, just questioned the price. He is supposed to be coming back to do the kitchen floor, at this point we have not heard anything.

I can't say enough good things about Tim from Budget Right. He was on time, had the necessary materials on hand, and was extremely professional.

Aaron was very friendly and professional in manner. He had come out at an earlier date to repair my door frame, but after inspecting my door, he realized that the whole door needed to be replaced, much to my dismay, since I don't have a lot of free time. He measured the door for me to purchase, and we set up a new date. I was surprised and pleased that he was available on Sundays. My schedule is not very flexible, so that was a great help to me. Not all Budget Right Handymen are available on Sundays, though, so you would have to specifically request Aaron. He did not charge me for that first visit and gave me some coupons to use for the second visit since it was going to take longer than the two hours I had purchased already. I purchased the door for Aaron to pick up, and he came out to set up for the job first. He was about a half-hour late, but he called me to let me know so I wasn't left wondering where he was. We ran into a snag when he went to pick up the door at Home Depot. Apparently, they couldn't find it so he was gone for a really long time while they located the door. After that, however, everything was great. The job did take longer than I expected, but I had the coupons so it helped lower the cost somewhat. This job was more expensive than I had planned (I paid for the new door in addition to the $212 for service), but it was worth it. He did a great job and cleaned up afterward. He even brought the old door out by the trash for me (this involves many stairs). I would not have been able to carry that down myself. Overall, I was happy, and I would definitely call Aaron again for some other jobs when I have the extra time and money.

Made the phone call we kept missing each others call, but we finally connected. He was very polite and proceed to inform me that he would not be able to come out until two weeks. Well that was too long of a wait time for what we need done.

The service was not good. I am not sure what went wrong but it was for my tenant. She said the guy came in and made the repairs and three days later the repairs that he made were undone. I said I will get the guy back in there but he was booked for two weeks and she said she couldn’t wait that long so she took it on herself to find another handymen who came and fixed it. I did use the Big Deal coupon the first time and eight of the items came undone. The pipes underneath the sink were wrought out and it needed to be replaced and she showed me photos of all that. They were always busy and it took them a while to come. The pricing was good. When he was at the house he was good and he called and kept me informed and let me know what was going on but the work failed. He gave me a list of items that were wrong and that service was great but when he did the work on my tenants they were not happy with the service.
