Budget Right Handyman

They do not service outside of Cook County without an additional travel fee of $25. I wish this had been written prominently in the big deal before I purchased it. It was on the voucher.

Brad (our handyman) arrived early! He looked at the gate and knew what he needed to do. Brad did a great job on the gate, and finished relatively quickly. Afterwards I showed him a few squeaky floorboards on floors that we just had installed, and he offered a few suggestions on how he could fix them. We will definitely call again!

Everything went very well. I spoke with Matt on the phone to setup the appointment and explained what needed to be done. He recommend a hardware store I never heard of. I followed up on his suggested after not finding anything close to what I needed at the local, more well known hardware/lumber yards; it was the only lumber supplier that could come close to matching the baseboard I needed. Nick was the handyman that came out to do the work. I'm not sure if all the handymen are as honest and helpful as he is or if I just lucked out. He did a great job on a difficult situation, trying to install a straight baseboard on a not so straight, 100 year old plaster wall. In the end it came out looking better than I had hoped. I will definitely use these guys again and will ask for Nick to do the job.

It went well. Leon was here on time, few minutes early. He was professional and completed all the work that I asked. We went together to home depot to purchase the shower head, and spigot. Also, we tried to look for a replacement tap handle for the hot water but couldn't find it because it might be pretty old.

We had a shower that was leaking into the roof of our dining room. Since it was multiple issues (shower demo & reinstall, drywall, ceramic & marble tile replacement / repair) I thought a handyman was the answer. The first guy from Budget Right (Brad) was incredibly impressive (Mike Homes..."do it right the first time" was his hero). We loved him and thought he was our answer for this job and other issues around the house. He gave us a quick estimate of $500 to $600. That was soon changed to $1500 plus $100 to $200 in materials. We were a bit surprised but soon found that wasn't unrealistic and agreed. Somehow our e-mail communication didn't quite work (I kept confirming the job but Brad didn't see / receive the e-mails) and as a result Brad told us we should find someone else. We shocked at first but called Budget Right and they agreed to send someone else. The manger said it sounded like a 4 day job. 10 days later our new handyman showed up and said it would be a $1900 5-day job and he would need $325 in materials. He seemed to know what he was doing so we agreed. Two weeks later we have a shower that isn't leaking. The old shower was installed incorrectly and we now have one that seems to be installed the right way. We have new marble tiles on the wall and a marble mesh floor in the shower....and the hole that was cut in our dining room ceiling is partially fixed. The materials cost jumped to $565 for a job total of $2465 Unfortunately the quality of the work was uneven and we have spackle or tile cement on our back porch, back stairs, inside walls, dining room chairs & table and a front door rug that has be thrown away. Initially the new marble tiles were not correctly color matched and had to be pulled up and replaced. Close inspection also showed the tiles laid down were not flush with existing tiles and were not all cut to a uniform size. As far as I can tell the demo was done correctly and the new shower was installed properly. Part of the problem was me. After I insisted the mismatched colored tiles be pulled up and replaced I was hesitant to say anything about the tiles that were not uniform or flush. We will just live with it. Our materials cost also jumped from $325 to $565. The one thing that really rankles about this company is in the middle of the job we found out our new handyman had just been with Budget Right for 4 weeks and he had never done a big job like this before. So they sent out a guy who had just started with them to do a big, complex job. The moral of the story as far as I'm concerned is that I should have hired a tile guy to install our tile. I will never again use a handyman for a big complex job. That is on me. There are some talented people (Brad) working for Budget Right but if you want to hire a company that puts the customer first I would stay away from Budget Right. We will never use them again.

This group was great. The man they sent out did a fantastic job, advised us on other odd jobs and was quick and professional. We are planning to utilize them again in the near future.

The technician was scheduled to arrive at 11 am, but he called me saying that he was available sooner. I already had the parts needed for installation. He showed me how to put the arrestors on. The technician also checked the downstairs toilet water supply valve. It started to leak when I shut it off. He showed me why the valve was leaking, and instructed me on how to fix it next time.

During the last storm, all three windows on my back porch extension were blown out. Ramis arrived promptly and was incredibly fast at putting up the plywood. He was so fast that we had to find other things for him to do. He realigned the back porch door, which had not closed properly for over a year and repaired or replaced three door locks. I would recommend Budget to anyone looking to have quality work done at a reasonable price.

Aeron called to let me know he would be able to come two hours early, if I wanted that. I did, and he showed up right on time. No task was too big or too small -- he was gracious and professional throughout. He put down a cover on the bed before working on hanging the painting. He was extremely careful in hanging the drapes that he didn't break anything on the sills. His general attitude was one of kindness, capability and skill. He was the perfect handyman and I will call him again anytime I need assistance.

Took care of several things both inside and outside the house. Installed an Elfa shelving unit on a wall, cut down a hugely unruly bush, and fixed things that needed fixin' in a few rooms. I paid for 2+1 hours and then added an our due to the amount of work required with the bush. I plan on using this service in the future.

Excellent service. Nick was thorough, cleaned up after himself (a blessing!) - he explained and demonstrated where bathroom faucet is broken - cannot be repaired - he will return as soon as I call him with the new fittings I highly recommend this company.

Everything was excellent. These were projects I was dreading to do forever, but Aeron came in and got them done in no time. Aeron was very accomplished and skillful. The jobs were done in a very professional manner. I highly recommend him and will use his services again.

I used Budget Right in late October and early November of 2013 after using them in the past and referring them to others. For the first appointment Bob came out with no tools and was only able to the smallest of the five projects on my list (after I insisted that he do something to justify wasting my time) but still charged me a ?convenience fee? and made a big mess. My second appointment with Ivan went smoother, but he was not able to find everything he needed so I had to make a third appointment. We had to reschedule the third appointment twice, but Ivan came back out. My recent experience with Budget Right was expensive (they will charge you for the full two-hour window every time they come out even if they are only there for 30 minutes) and frustrating (workers showing up with no tools, and have to reschedule multiple times). I had budgeted and prepared for one appointment which ended up being stretched out to three. I basically feel like I was taken advantage of and I would not use or recommend them again.

Wow, very impressed. On time, good communication, fast, complete, and cleaned up after jobs were done. Would recommend and would use Nick again.

They came out last October and the service turned out really good. They came out on time.

Leon was punctual and professional. I showed him what needed to be done and he was particular about making sure it was done correctly and safely. While the entire lamppost wasn't replaced, he provided an idea that saved me money and aggravation. It was nice to work with a perfectionist. I will call this service again.

Aaron is extremely professional, polite, thorough, and knowledgeable. He has even pointed out other things in the house as he's been working that could pose harmful to us if we don't get them repaired soon (these are not jobs that he would do to generate more business, these are simply friendly warnings to us). He is cost conscious, running all potential costs by me before doing the work. He finished one job early and asked if there was anything else he could help with since we still had more time available. We did have a small repair to our aluminum siding that needed repair and gutters to be cleaned. He did those two jobs for us too! (And he got terribly rained on while cleaning the gutters - and still left with a smile!) The company is also great - great pricing and very accommodating with setting up appointments for jobs to be done. We have a great deal of handyman jobs in our home that need to be done and we've been searching for years for a company like this. We are very happy!

The serviceman was extremely professional and on time. He was also knowledgeable about what needed to be done. I was extremely happy with the job that was done on my front deck stairs. Moreover, the serviceman kept to the specified timing to complete the job. I am already planning on using this service once again. Thank you, Angie's list.

He arrived early and was incredibly thorough, walking through each item he fixed at the end. Highly recommend! Also, he said they do everything from wood floor refinishing to remodels. Will definitely use them for bigger projects in the future!

My experience was great! Nick was prompt (even a few minutes early), professional, and tidy. After scheduling an appointment with a representative from the company (for the next business day!), Nick called me later that day to confirm the appointment and arrival time. I purchased the $94 for two hour special that the company is offering now. Nick assessed the repairs, made a run to Home Depot for a supply that was needed, and finished the work all within the timeframe. He checked in with me periodically to make sure the system and its attachments were installed to my liking. He also explained how to remove different parts if I wanted to reconfigure the closet. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience and the quality of work!

First off, Aaron was an hour late but he did call to let me know and apologize. So....it all started out great. After he was there for about 45 minutes and went to make the first cut he realized his saw was not big enough to cut through a 4.5 inch baseboard and therefore would be unable to do the job. He suggested we just call someone else and set up another time. That would be all good and fine if I hadn't just taken half the day off of work to be home for him. I had to go out and rent a saw for $60.00 and go pick it up for him to do the job. On top of it, the office called and I expressed my displeasure at having to provide their handyman a tool and I shouldn't have to pay full price for the job. He told me he would talk to his boss and get back to me which he NEVER did. I was charged for 4 hours, plus the $60 saw rental and on top of it he charged me a $25.00 travel fee since I live in DuPage County. (no where was I informed of this policy) The 2 hour job turned into 4 hours plus $60.00 for a saw. I wasn't expecting the job for free, bu I was certainly expecting a handyman to come with the proper tools to complete a job and NOT be charged full price because THEY messed up. Very disappointed with the service. Aaron was a good guy though and did a good job after I got him the proper equipment. He did a couple extra things for me which took him about 15 minutes and didn't charge me. (he did joke though that he didn't charge me for a screw)

The worker was very professional, arrive a little late due to the heavy rain. Perform all the tasks in a timely manner. He was so good that I already rescheduled another appointment.
