Sorry this review has been so delayed in submitting, but this experience was quite involved and needed to shared with others. Initially, the installation of my new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal was going well. The two hour "deal" was nearly up, and Ivan was about to attach the disposal. That's when the difficulties began. He announced that the disposal doesn't fit. He said it was too close to the copper water pipes and could cause a rupture. Nonetheless, he continued to try wedging it in. Then he suggested moving the copper pipe to create more clearance. I agreed to that approach, but he did not have the appropriate tools to accomplish this. This glitch required him to go to the hardware store for a blowtorch, solder, etc. Prior to that, he had tripped an electrical fuse. In the process of resetting it, I discovered the that electricity was completely blown to one half of my entire house. I am NOT IMPLYING that he was responsible for the that power outage. It may have been completely coincidental, but it added further chaos to the situation. Now I had to call in the power company and had guys all over my property with a cherry picker and pole climbers. Meanwhile, Ivan returned and began working on the pipes. I was distressed to see him working under the sink using only his cell phone as a flashlight--while working with a blow torch. I offered to supply a hanging flashing light, but he declined. After bending the copper pipe to allow more room, he proceeded to install the disposal. It was still an extremely tight fit with absolutely no clearance between the copper pipe and the disposal. At first, he said it didn't fit, but then seemed to reverse that opinion saying it did fit. But now the problem was that the new unit was a plug-in while the old unit was hardwired-in. He explained that a new type of electrical box/switch would have to be installed. I was astonished that he hadn't assessed the wiring requirements BEFORE staring the job! By now it was almost 5:00 pm, and he had been there since 12:00 noon. He said he's have to come back next week to do the following: install proper electrical parts and move the copper pipes to the other side of the sink. (He further stated that the soldering job he did was of inferior quality because the hardware store 'didn't have any better products.') This made me wonder why a plumber would knowingly leave a customer with low grade materials, and why he didn't carry more of his own professional-grade tools?) My bill for that day was $150, which didn't include the $99 I had already paid through Angie's List for the "Big Deal." Later that evening I realized some of the water supply lines were leaking and water was dripping down from above where the faucet had been installed. What's worse, for the next five days, the only way I could use the disposal was to crawl under the sink, unplug my dishwasher, manually plug in the disposal, and flip a switch. Then reverse the process to use the dishwasher. What's more, the black flange thing you shove food threw fell in after a few uses and was getting ground up inside the disposal. I called the owner the day after all of this happened to express my frustration and concern. (Before proceeding with the job, I had told the owner my concerns about the tight space under the sink for the new disposal. He said the only problem might be some of the plastic drain pipes might have to be replaced. He assured me that his workers knew the location of the nearest Home Depots, etc. To be proactive, I purchased some plastic pipe parts to have on handto avoid the worker having to run to the hardware store.) At this point, the owner said he would investigate what happened. The next call I got was from Ivan again to set-up another appointment. I was expecting the owner to call with back, and I would have requested a different handyman. Over the weekend, I decided to cut my losses and purchase another new disposal with a smaller circumference that was hard-wired. This cost me another $185. I did not want to risk further complications, more trips to the hardware store, and pay to have my copper pipes re-routed. When Ivan returned the following week, he proceeded to remove the first garbage disposal and re-solder the copper pipes with better materials. I became uncomfortable while he was using the blowtorch. At times, he was aiming it at another pipe, which looked like it was bending. Then, he held it outside of the cabinet where a plastic bag from the hardware store was hanging over the counter. Then, while working with the pipe, the torch was angled toward the back of the cabinet, which began to show scorch marks! When I show him where the water had been leaking, he explained that this happens when you attach a new water supply line to an older, existing shutoff valve. This made me question why a good plumber would--again--knowingly make these inferior connections. (The other leak turned out to something completely different than he initially claimed it was.) He wanted to replace the connections with new shut-off valves, but said he would have to go to Home Depot for those parts. I suggested he call the local hardware store to see if they have the parts. He claimed they did not, because he had been there last week and their inventory was limited. I did not want to pay for travel time to Home Depot, and I wanted the job DONE. He said the alternative was an inferior compression value connection that would be guaranteed to leak eventually. I opted for the "inferior" solution. Low and behold, he returned from the local store with the appropriate shut-off valves and installed them. Finally the new disposal was installed. He wrote up a new bill for another four hours of work. At this point, I didn't even know what I was paying for. He kept talking about using coupons, and I wasn't sure if the Angie's List deal was ever even part of it. About two hours after he left, the smoke alarm went off in my kitchen. I was not cooking or doing ANYTHING. This alarm is incredibly sensitive, and has never gone off in five years without cause. I have of heard pipes in the wall catching fire. Because of the blow torch usage, I was very concerned and decided to contact the fire department. They tested for heat and smoke, but luckily did not detect anything. I contacted the owner to explain my disappoint over all of these trials, tribulations, and cost. I asked for a price adjustment, but he said he could not "take money out of the mouths of Ivan's babes." His justification was that 'he operates on a very tight margin with these Angie's List deals.' Essentially, his business profitably problem was more important than my consumer satisfaction. As for the fire department, his response was: 'since nothing burned down and no one was hurt' and the faucet and disposal are working...there is no problem. His attitude is simply that the means justify the end. If the job was completed, and nothing is leaking, I have no legitimate complaint. Actually, the job was NOT complete, because by now, the faucet had become so loose that it was about to fall out of the hole in the sink! He agreed to send the same guy back to fix it. I demanded he send a different person. After a number of delays, no shows, and odd denials by the owner, a new person was sent late in the day to tighten the faucet. After some tinkering, this man realized that the faucet had been installed incorrectly. It would have to be removed and re-installed. An appointment that should have taken minutes now turned into HOURS! He worked extremely hard to get the faucet in properly. After a few hours, he was finally done. This man did a very good job, and I have no problem with his efforts. But, the saga with Budget Handyman was still not over! There was no charge for the work, because it was a repair of the original work. But then he pulled out a form for me to sign, stating that the job was done properly, I would agree not to write a negative review on Angie's List! I was astonished. I refused to sign the form, which made him extremely nervous. I got the feeling that he was not supposed to leave without that signed document. He went outside to call a supervisor and ask what to do. We were at a stalemate. I explained in detail to this man everything that had gone wrong with this job. He said that he would never have tried installing the first disposal in the first place. If it was too large and the hook-up was different, it should never have been attempted. He understood why I did not intend to sign the form. Apparently, the concern (from the owner's viewpoint) is that if I write a review saying they came back to do more work, other Angie's List members will think they can get free work done beyond the two hours. This was so preposterous, I could hardly believe it. My guess is that the men sent on jobs under pressure to get the job done fast, come with no extra tools, make trips to the hardware store for parts, and don't make much money on the basic job. Then they are pressured to discourage the customer from submitting a negative review. Overall, the $99 Big Deal cost me $650, which may or may not include the original $99. Add to this, the aggravation, time spent on this complicated review and the cost of the original disposal which is now useless to me, I am out far more than this amount!!

We preformed this work a year ago. We are a time and materials company. It was a complicated bit of pluming and electrical work. This job simply is not possible without a torch, and even the review and the electric company agreed that was not our falt. We stood behind our work and fixed the faucet. Why, a year later, due to her distress we owe her $340? I have no idea.

Everything went great. Aaron called while I was at a previously scheduled appointment to see if they could come a little early as they had finished the previous call early. I couldn't accommodate them as I was tied up. We showed them what we needed to have done and they were completely professional and upfront with how things would look and how long it would take (and how much more it was going to cost). After review of our door that we wanted rehung it was determined that Brad and Aaron could have installed it but it would not look right as it was warped and, since it was from the mid 20's, it was not square since the previous folks had trimmed things off as the building settled over the years. We decided to not install that door and I would install folding doors later. The other part of the job was to hang the mirror that is 4'X6' and weighs around 175-200 pounds. I had purchased some Z hooks to install this with but chickened out due to the size of this wood framed mirror. I didn't want to try to get it leveled, centered and make sure it was still attached to the wall after we put it up. They were great at making sure that the clips were anchored correctly in the wall and the mirror and it's still attached to the wall and it's still level. I would like to thank them for being up front with the challenges that we would have faced with what we wanted to do originally. They were both professional and had a great sense of humor. The witty banter continued the entire time they were here. I will use Budget Right Handyman services again when i need something done that I don't feel sure I can do comfortably and correctly. Thanks again!
Description of Work: They were to install a door and hang a HUGE mirror. Only the mirror was hung as the door (from 1920's) was warped and not usable the way that we wanted it to be and would not have looked right.

The technician, Aaron, was very nice and professional! The service appointment was scheduled for 8AM and he was right on time. The price was reasonable for the amount of work performed. The technician completed many tasks around my home and only charge $49 per hour. He worked for around 8 hours to complete my projects. He was an extremely trustworthy gentlemen and I will certainly use Budget Right Handyman for my future projects!

I contact "Budget Right Handyman" to see If they could handle the door repairs before purchasing the Angie's List special. They answer all my questions. After making the purchase, I call them on 1/29/2014 to make an appointment. Since they had a cancellation they agreed to come at 10:30 am. Repair showed up at 10:29 a.m., was very professional, and performed the work very quickly. I was very pleased and plan to use them again.

When I did finally get the service man out, (Stood up first time, late the second time but arrived after yelling on the phone) he was fine. Couldn't get him back to finish what he started though, (got stood up the second time again after multiple emails texts and calls) so I finished the job myself... I have probably six wasted hours on the small job myself if you include me waiting for the repairman, being stood up, and communication. Again, repairman was fine. Scheduler couldn't care less. He was attentive to my payment though. Very on point in getting his money.
Description of Work: Okay, I know you all heard this from others, BUT, I REALLY don't like to write reviews. I do feel compelled here though. I worked so hard to get this appointment set up and confirmed that I could tell from the outset that the company was disorganized. Phone calls, emails, texts..nothing worked. I still got stood up...Twice. I should have listened to that little voice in my head saying stay away!

Handyman was pleasant and energetic. He confidently completed all the tasks we wanted done. For the most part, I was pretty happy. However: - the work he did on the cabinet shook an adjacent wall and caused the paint to crack and made a hole on that wall. Not his fault (and probably not avoidable) - but when I noticed it he pretended to be surprised by it and claimed it was already there, then got defensive, then finally he told me he knew he did it and was going to tell me. I would have expected him to be more forthright about it. - as he added up my total he looked over in my direction and said "....and.... tip.... $0, I guess?". As he left, I did tip him, and he grinned and said "so you heard my prod, huh???". Not the end of the world, but it seemed unprofessional. I'd use the service again and in fact I plan to soon.

The work was requested by the buyer per their home inspection. They showed up on time and surveyed the work that needed to be completed, then went to get a few supplies. I had a coupon for $80 per hour for the first two hours and they finished within that time. There were no issues with the work when the buyer did their final walk through. The handyman who came out was friendly and took the time to explain what he was doing and made sure I was satisfied with the work before leaving.

Nick was excellent. Cancelled first day because of weather related emergencies-- no problem there, but was late on the re-schedule. Once he got here, he was efficient, engaged and genuinely interested in our needs. I used this company once before and although that experience was a total waste of time and money -- a rip off, actually, I decided to give them another chance but requested a different workman. Nick replace the lazy dolt and did a great job. I've hired him to re-grout my bathroom and to complete several other tasks. If you use this company, request Nick-- tell the dispatcher not to send the tall guy with the super deep voice -- he's lazy, and not smart enough to figure out where to install a toilet paper roll. But 2nd times a charm.. Stick with Nick, though.
