Budget Right Handyman

He came out and it was a lousy experience. I would notuse them again.

These people are great. I've used them before.

I will not use this company again. I requested the following tasks to be done: Stack dryer on washer Change dead bolt lock Paint door Fix leaking sink I purchased the 2hr Handy Man Special for $110.00 One worker showed up and he couldn?t stack the dryer on the washer by himself. It was his understanding that I told the person who took the order that the dryer was LIGHT. If the dryer was LIGHT, I would have stacked it myself. I didn?t tell the person who took the order that the dryer was LIGHT and I didn?t like being told that I did. They wanted to reschedule my appointment but it took 2 weeks to get this appointment. We agreed on completing the other tasks on my list, because I already paid for the service and didn?t want them to come back to my home again. The main reason for calling them was to stack the dryer on the washer. The worker also mentioned that my home was a long distance from their office.

Pete did a good job at that for me. He gave his opinion as to what he would do if the house was his. I appreciated that. He told me what to look out for and pointed out the valves to turn things off in case of emergencies. He installed an antique light fixture for me, and it looks extremely nice. I didn't use the full 2 hours, but it's ok. He did ask me a couple of times was there anything else he could do, but I wasn't prepared, so I said no. Next time, after I am fully moved in, I will make sure to have a list ready. I will use them again.

I had used this service for a few years and spent a great deal of money with them and in return they leave me a rude voicemail insinuating that I asked a worker to do things outside of the scope of services that I contracted for which was absolutely not the case. Yet they had no problem cashing my check which had a generous tip for this worker. I could not believe they had the nerve to leave such an insulting voicemail after I had been such a good customer for such a long time. I would never recommend this service to anyone. This is the first negative review I have ever written. I choose to only write positive review normally, but his company does not deserve your business. Thank you.

Everything was great, except the installation of the outlet First, the great things: ceiling fan installation was great. Works perfect, very happy. He also replaced 2 traditional light switches with "smart switches" which work perfect. The bad thing is, that the outlet he installed does not work. I should have tried it before he left Regardless, I would use him again. Maybe I can get a partial credit for the outlet that doesn't work? I would like to book another appointment to install 4 more switches just like the "smart switches" the handyman previously installed Thanks Matt

I would have rather paid a monkey to scratch his butt in front of me before I used this company again.

I know I spent more than I should have, because this was supposed to be a special deal. Most likely would have spent less if contractor had all tools needed. Very puntual, very nice. However, paid more than budget.

He did a very good job. Arrived early and finished early.

Would have been great "DEAL OF THE DAY" if they weren't in CHICAGO!

Alberto did a great job (described above). He gave me options when we discovered the walls were not square while the vanity cabinet and top were. He executed the install of the cabinet and top very well. Near the end of the work, he did not install the cabinet hardware with the same quality as the other work. He offered to fix this but it was simple enough for me to set the hardware where I wanted it. I will use Budget Right Handyman again and would be okay to have Alberto back.

The handyman arrived on time, possibly even early. He got right to work on the desk, and finished that in a little less than an hour. The knife holder project took at most 10 minutes. The bathroom project required a new sink stopper--luckily, the hardware store across the street had it in stock. I purchased this for the handyman to complete the project. So I still had nearly an hour left during which time I had the handyman do what I'm sure for him were really minor repairs/maintenance tasks, such as helping me figure out what brand dimmer I owned, tightening a toilet seat cover, and the like. Then I asked him some general questions about painting and plaster repair projects. All in all I wish I had planned better but I was satisfied with the work he did for me.

.I have been avoiding writing this review because I was not sure what to say, but I decided just to write what happened and others can make their own judgement. The handyman was VERY nice, but the stairs did not come out well. The bottom step was much too high. I expressed some concern, but he seemed to feel that it had to be that way and would be fine. The next day, someone tripped and fell going up the stairs, so I decided I had to do something. I called him back and told him that it was dangerous this way and had to be changed. He was very understanding and came right back with someone else and the two of them tore the steps apart and put them back differently--perfectly! So is this a good review or not? Not sure!

It took about 3 messages/phone calls for Matt to make initial contact with me by phone. When we finally spoke he said he can't keep all of the customers straight. He had trouble finding the email I had sent him with four pictures of the area needing work, as he had requested. After a price finally made clear verbally, the contractor was able to schedule an appointment for me. On the date of the arranged appointment, it was 20 minutes past arrival time when I received a phone call from the subcontractor, Ken, that he was sick. I said no problem. I checked in with him again Tuesday, but he said he was still sick and I asked him to call me when he is able to do the job. When I still hadn't heard from him by the next Monday, I finally called Matt at Budget Right back. He said he didn't know anything about Ken not showing up. He thought he had done the job! I said I hadn't heard from Ken since Tuesday. He seemed surprised and again couldn't remember who I was. With some begging, he was able to make arrangements for another subcontractor to come out on the dates I had requested. They offered me a free hour of work since the previous contractor was a no-show. Today the newly scheduled subcontractor was supposed to arrive at 8:30, but at 8:30 no one was here and I worried that it was going to be another no-show. I called Matt who quickly called the subcontractor, and found out that the contractor was running late. He had taken a wrong turn, and likely hadn't left in time. When he arrived 15 minutes late, he wasn't sure what job he was supposed to do. He asked me where the drywall was to do the job. He said he expected me to have purchased the drywall and to have it ready for him to install. After a few harsh words (from the built-up frustration), I explained that I was not told I had to have the drywall. I hurried out as I had to take my kids to summer camp. I assumed he was going to take measurements and obtain drywall. When no one arrived within the next hour, I called the subcontractor back. In general, he stated that he has enough other jobs and he is not going to do the job because he thought I was rude. I guess the schedulers hadn't informed him of how many problems I had already had with Budget Right. I left a message for the manager to call me back, which he did later that morning. He listened to my side, and I listened to his. He said that he was sorry I was wronged, but since Alberto had walked out on the job because he didn't feel he could please me, he wouldn't send another contractor back. He said they hadn't collected a dime and that I could contact Angie's List to get my $220 back. So, it's been 33 days since my initial contact with them, and I'm right back where I started. I have my mother coming to stay here for surgical recovery in 26 days, and she needs to have a bed in this room. I hope I can get the job finished in that time or else little pieces of drywall will be falling all over her bed when my son is in his room above. No love from this company, use someone else and save yourself the frustration. Plus, they aren't really that inexpensive---I got a quote only $15 more from another drywaller. Perhaps their lower quality is the reason they are "budget"-worthy.

We had purchased services through Angie's List in June 2014 but had not been able to find work to fit the coupon. Just as the coupon was expiring, we hit on an idea and called to schedule service. The owner was VERY accommodating and told us not to worry that the coupon had (by then) expired. he honored the coupon, came and repaired the damage to the garage, and left the worksite clean. i will definitely use this provider again.

The contractor arrived early, was friendly, and worked quickly to determine how he would weatherize our doors and repair the drywall. He went to the local hardware store and got supplies which took maybe an hour. He performed the work in 1.5 hours. He did not do as much drywall repair as I requested but he explained in some areas steel wool was best for both plugging holes around pipes and preventing rodents. One area where I thought he would repair the drywall was inaccessible due to cabinetry so he cut a side panel for the area, which made sense. For the area he did patch in our furnace closet, he applied a drywall patch but didn't clean up the compound that dripped on the walls and floor. He also left a little bit of garbage for us to clean up rather than just tossing it out. The door weatherization work he did was good, but our front door now doesn't lock so perhaps the strip is too close to the door? Not sure. We will have to call out a second contractor. I would possibly use Budget Right again but there wasn't a "maybe" option. I say i would maybe use them again because my requested repairs took some troubleshooting. I might call them back out for repairs that are more basic.

It was ok. He didn’t come prepared with the right screws and had to make a run to the store. He wasn’t very accommodating

They charged a $25 fee to come to my house. This was a surprise and not told by Angie's list sales person. He calls me close to time of arrival and says that he'll be an hour late. And then he says it may not be enough of time, 2hrs to finish what the company said he could do.

Mitchell was great; polite and efficient. He installed 3 floating shelves in three different rooms and replaced our worn out mailbox on our brick house. He had opinions when I asked him for them and kept to the task at hand.

I didn't dislike anything about them because I had a friend who also used them, she told me they are excellent. I was really pleased with what he did. I was really happy with them and I haven't had any problem with them.

Steve was awesome - did the entire job in the amount of time that he said he would and it looks spectacular! Steve is friendly & personable and really knows his craft. I definitely will be calling Budget in the future for other projects and will be asking for Steve by name...

Company was very responsive, called me back right away. Handyman was on time, knowledgeable, and very competent. Was concerned that they would try to go beyond the two hours (had a two hour deal) but he stayed within the two hours, in spite of giving them a lot of small project. Will use them again, for sure.

Steve showed up right on time and got to work. No dilly dallying, very efficient. Did a very good job, made sure I was happy with his work. He was also friendly/personable. Yes, that does matter. No one wants to deal with some grouch who doesn't like his job, been there,done that. This is my second time using Budget Right and will call them again in the future. Will request Steve again since he did such a great job.
