Budget Right Handyman

Hired this company to paint 1 bedroom (fully primed, minimal prep work needed) and 1 bathroom which has very little wall space. The person on the phone said it would take 3-5 hours, which I agreed. A professional painter could knock this out very easily. However, the person who they sent appeared to be very lazy and moved slowly. He took one look at the room and said that it would take at least a day. Are you kidding me? I even asked him to do as much as possible within the 5 hour window and he refused. He didn't want to do any work, completely unmotivated! He acted like he had something better to do. I'm very disappointed. Don't bother with this company.

This was an extraordinary disappointment, and Budget Right handled the numerous problems that arose with extreme arrogance. The job was first scheduled mid-June, and I was notified about the materials to buy prior to the job with the promise that their best carpenter would be scheduled for the job. On the day of the job, a confused technician showed up saying that he was scheduled for the job at the last minute, and had no idea what he was supposed to do. I showed him the job and he said that he would be able to do it, but it would look really ugly, so I called the center to reschedule again. Take Two: A week later, The best carpentry guy they had showed up, and decided that the materials that we have are all wrong, and that we would need to buy different materials but that he would not have the time to do both. He offered to buy the materials, send pictures so that we could agree that they would look good, and schedule us for the first day after the weekend. Take Three: With no communication about our appointment or the materials, I call both the guy and Budget Right. I finally reach Budget Right and they tell me that the guy is not coming. They have the manager call me who repeatedly implies that the problem is my fault because I should have known that the guy cannot schedule appointments, and offers to reschedule again. When I ask him how I can trust that they will take care of the job the fourth time I have scheduled them, he demurs. No deal. Another wasted morning. How can you trust a company like this?

We needed an exterior door installed. A guy was sent out to do the job with over 30 years experience under his belt, but he did very sloppy and incomplete work and was not polite and was also trying to charge for 5 hours of work when he spent most of that time talking. Installing the door took him maybe 1.5 hours tops so we felt the 5 hours were not fair. He settled on 4 hours but the work was very sloppy, the door was not level, some parts were more in then out, was not sealed properly, and the trim was left off. Called the company and was not happy with how bad the door was installed so they immediately sent out a new guy named Justin Pinkus to fix the bad install for free. Justin did an excellent job!!! He was polite, friendly, and the door was properly installed like it was meant to be. We were thrilled with the quality of work and the final product, so much so that we are going to have him come out again and install a pocket door for us. We are happy customers.

Service was excellent. We hired this company to handle a few issues our tenant had and handyman was punctual and professional and completed all of our requested tasks quickly and efficiently. We will definitely use this company for our future projects.

My wife and I are getting ready to put our condo on the market and we had quite a few things we wanted to get done at the condo first. I called Budget Right based on a referral from a friend but I also called two other companies for estimates. When I called Budget Right they went over the work I needed done, they asked me alot question and took the time to get a good feel for my project. They gave me an estimate the same day, actually at the end of my call with them. They estimated my project to take 16 hours which would cost $944. The other two firms I called provided me estimates that where much higher. One of those firms took two days to get back to me with an estimate and seemed agitated with me when I was asking them questions about the estimate, the other firm took three days to get back to me with an estimate and continued to call me to try to book an appointment after I told them, "No thanks". The service rep from Budget Right showed up on time both days. He was very courteous and professional. Everything went very smooth which surprised me because I'm always anxious when I have someone in my home to do work. It always seemed like something would go wrong, this was not the case with Budget Right. The thing that surprised me the most was when the job was completed it ended up only taking 14 hours instead of the 16 hours estimated. When I spoke with Budget Right on the phone to get the estimate they told me that I would only be charged for the hours worked so if the job took less than 16 hours I would only pay for the time it took. I thought "Yeah, right" when they told me that, "Nice sales pitch". I didn't think there was anyway the job would take less than the estimated time. I was proven wrong. My project ended up costing me $826 for 14 hours of work I found Budget Right to be honest, professional, and competent. I will be using them in the future when I need work done in the new house we are moving into. I would highly recommend their service. Sincerely, John Jacobson

They have done work for me before. There was a coupon that brought me to them and I liked their work. Subsequently, I asked them to come back out and so they are coming back out again this Friday. This was aside from the deal that I got through Angie's List.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Budget Right Handyman. I contacted them on June 10 to get a quote and check availability. I also contacted a few other folks that day, but decided to go with Budget Right because they were the first ones to contact me and they had a date that worked (today, June 18). We asked if they could help with repairing 2 walls, a small area in our kitchen ceiling, small portion of flooring and trim a closet door. They indicated they could do all of that. A few days later, I received a call from another rep at Budget Right who started to indicated he wasn't sure if they could do all of these activities. I re-explained the scenario, and indicated the other rep said they could do it...but please let me know if that's not possible and I will find someone else. Fast forward to today at 8AM, which is the time they are supposed to arrive. My phone rings and it's a Budget Right representative...I immediately know what's about to happen. Of course, he tells me their guy got sick last night and called in this morning to say he couldn't make it. The rep implied he knew last night the guy was not feeling well. Common sense would indicate you should call your customer and let them know ahead of time, but common sense apparently doesn't come into play here. Instead, they call me at 8AM to let me know the guy who is supposed to be there at that very moment, will not be arriving. Mind you, I woke up early to start moving a bunch of furniture to prepare the areas for his arrival. I also went out and purchased all the supplies and parts so he would not have to be slowed down on my account. The rep says to me "I hate having to make these calls, but we have a policy to comp you 1 free hour." I'll take that to mean he makes them relatively often, such that they have a policy to deal with these situations. I don't know how else to interpret that. I need the work done on a Saturday, so I ask if he can get someone out next Saturday. He asks me "what about during the week?" To which I re-iterate what I've said since I first made the appointment. "No, I need a Saturday...and I need it to be next Saturday." He says, "Sorry, no one's available, but I understand you need it done. I wish we could help." That's it..."I wish we could help." Great...just great. I am trying to get our house ready to put on the market, and this company just set me back at least a week. In real estate, a week is a long time. I now have to find someone else to do the work, which means at minimum I will be a week behind, but more likely than not I will be a few weeks behind. These guys completely blew it, and instead of making it right, they just threw up their hands. If the company was smart, they would see that the "free hour" is not what's important to me. It's getting the work done ASAP. That would mean finding a way to get someone out next Saturday to get the job done. But nope...business intelligence is apparently in short supply here. Maybe our situation is just an anomaly, but I now see enough "F" reviews for this company where I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Shame on me for not being thorough enough to read the "F" reviews and understand some of the risks in choosing to work with this company. I got burned big time, so I am leaving my own "F" review to warn others. Hopefully other Angie's List subscribers will be more thorough in reading reviews than I was.

John H. Was very punctual. He had great communication throughout the entire process and performed the jobs properly and efficiently. John H. is also pet friendly. I am very pleased with the repairs and additions John made to my home and will request him for future services if available.

I emailed the company and they got back to me immediately. We set up an appointment for that week. Mr Galanza arrived on time and completed the tasks within the two hour window. Would definitely use the company again.

They were excellent. Arrived on time. The guys were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. It was just a great experience.

Scheduling outdoor painting is difficult because of weather conditions. Mario called prior to the appointment to see the project. When he arrived he said he could paint the awning but determined that i would need more cans of spray paint. He brushed the awning and worked with what was available while I went to purchase more. The store only had 5 cans left. He worked with that amount though he preferred more. I was very pleased with the results and what he accomplished with the 7 cans. The awning is about 40 years old. This was an Angie's List Big Deal I purchased. I was impressed with Mario. He was willing to find a solution to get the job done. I had misinformation about how much paint would be required.

Alberto was running about 10 minutes, but phoned to inform us. No problem. He arrived, and went straight to work quickly. He assessed that he needed to replace the switch in the bathroom, and then promptly went to Home Depot to purchase the part. He was done within an 1.5. Very thorough. Thanks!

It couldn't have gone better - we are so pleased!

He started quickly and dug right in. It turned out I bought the wrong hardware for the slide by door, so he switched to a second task while I went out and got the correct hardware. There was not complaints on his part. He was pleasant and efficient... knew what he was doing and what the tasked required.

Went very well. I appreciated that the worker came on a Sunday to accommodate my work schedule. He was very professional and honest. Very personable and professional.

Very unprofessional customer service......Apparently asking for quotes for work from this company equates wasting their time. I asked for the approximate cost of tiling a tub surround and installing can lighting in our kitchen. I was about to hang up after I completed our call only to listen to the person on the other end of the line (he must have thought he hung up) rant about how I was just shopping, wasting his time, how he could not get me off the phone, and how he missed two other calls while talking to me. I believe the total time that we spent on the phone was 3-5 minutes and that I only asked him about 3 separate jobs. The price that he gave me for the tile work sounded right and I likely would have had him formally bid the job but I am glad that I heard what I did as I would now never give this company a dime of work. Given the way he handled this situation I would not recommend their services.

They could have been better with the price. After the guy was done, I could still see some leaking. I had him come back.

I wouldn't know where to look for someone with Elaine's level of skills and experience intentionally, so I'm lucky to have hired her by chance through a promotional offer on Angie's list. She made fast and easy work out of hanging a large mirror and stabilizing a sagging shelf that was installed by someone else. She explained things and taught me a lot about the walls of my apartment, which are several different materials. She was even able to fix a bike trailer that was missing original parts - she improvised with what she had to reinforce the kickstand.

On the day of service the handyman arrived 20 minutes late (not a huge deal in our book). I printed the punch list I had originally provided for my estimate and did a quick walk through to ensure it was clear what we needed accomplished. The handyman made a list of materials that were needed from Home Depot and provided it to me. When I mentioned that a material run to the store was included in our estimate, he informed me that he would not go to purchase the items and that if I wanted to the work done I would need to go. Since I wanted the work completed, I went ahead and headed to the store returning less than an hour later. In the meantime the handyman began the projects he didn't need materials for. Five hours after his arrival he informed me he needed to leave for another job and went over what he had accomplished: Re-hanging the closet door, replacing the catch ball hardware on three doors, hanging a curtain rod, removing the old caulk from the shower and bath tub and re-caulking the shower and 1/2 of the tub. What about finishing the caulking in the other half of my bathtub and the rest of the items on our punch list???He told me he'd run out of time and needed to leave and that we'd need to speak with someone at the main office about booking more time - at an additional cost - to finish our list. We called Budget Right to voice our complaint and discuss possible solutions. It took days for them to respond to several voicemails and emails. We were told that they would follow up with their worker and management and get back to use with a solution. However, 3 weeks later and we still haven't received a response from them even after following up two additional times. I had high expectations from Budget Right Handyman, as their reviews were stellar, but the service, professionalism and responsiveness have been anything but. We do understand that sometimes work estimates are off, but to only have accomplished half our list in the time quoted is in our opinion unacceptable and should have been addressed before the actual work began. The quality of the work was satisfactory; The handyman was knowledgeable of what he was doing and his work showed it, but his attitude, the slow pace at which he was working and the overall service was very disappointing.

not good...as leak in home and no contact...DAYS....(EVEN HAD TO CALL ANGIES LIST FOR HELP)... finally after leaving two different names (not knowing what other is DOING) and leaving a message about heating??? had to pay and get someone else.. please refund as your representative said I was eligible for.
