Budget Right Handyman

Satisfied customer here! I had a 10,000BTU and a 5,000BTU window AC unit I needed installed in my 4th floor apartment window. Budget Right contacted me immediately after I purchased their deal of $110 for 2 hours of handyman work, and I was scheduled for the next day at 5pm. The employee was thorough and assured me that for the job at hand that they'd send out 2 workers. However, around 5pm, both of the handymen they were sending out called and informed me that they'd be late, and needed to reschedule for 2 hours later at 7pm. Luckily, I had nothing to do and it was fine, but as all handyman work goes, schedules are very flimsy. Once they arrived, they carried the (very heavy) units up all 3 flights up stairs and got right to work installing! They were professional, quiet, and quick. They had both units installed and running in just under 2 hours. I was caught by surprise when one of the units had cardboard jammed into a hole to fill a gap in my window that the AC unit didn't fill, but the worker explained exactly what I needed to purchase and what to do to fill it (a very easy process). Overall, I'm pleased with the work they did and will be working with them in the future.

I am so appreciative of the empathy displayed by the person who took my initial phone call and the effort he made to locate and dispatch a technician so quickly. My technician, Anthony, was very professional, courteous, and skilled in correcting my initial problem, as well as installing the ceiling fan. I will definitely utilize Budget Right Handyman service again, as I have additional projects on my "to do" list.

I needed some work in my kitchen and the guy who was supposed to help came in 2 hours delayed. I missed a concert at Ravinia, waiting for him to have my work done. He was not doing a great job. He talked a lot and worked little. His boss, Tim did not want to help. Moreover he told me that I have a difficult personality. In fact, i did not want to disclose some detailes, because I did not want Aaron to lose his job. I am not happy with his work, but I wish he was more responsible.

Edgar came out and was speedy, handy and professional. Would definitely use this company again and specifically ask for Edgar again.

Badly. Specifically, I bought an Angie's list 2 hrs work for 1 hr coupon ($220 for $110). The placement of the tub, bolting it into the floor, and all that , which I can't done, was fine. The problem was hooking up the plumbing. I bought new connections, p-trap, etc. but the handyman used the old ones. Before he left, I ran water through and saw no sign of a leak. I use the tub for cleaning off my dogs. After the first time I used it and the dogs jostled the tub, water started pouring out of the connections. I have a plumber in my house right now expressing contempt for the way the connections were done and am paying $159 to do it right. I didn't think this was a hard job, I just don't own a drill for bolting the tub to the floor. I thought hooking up a p-trap was not a big deal. At this point I decided better to hire a plumber than do it myself but I'm very disappointed.

Everything went well, extremely pleased with the service. I would hire Dave in a heartbeat again, he does excellent work. I will be recommending him to others, he's a keeper!

Appointment was supposed to be scheduled for 8:00 a.m.; however, no one arrived and I called multiple time to confirm if anyone was going to show up. Company notified me that handyman was in traffic. Handyman did not arrive until 9:00 and informed me that he was not aware of the appointment until just a while ago. I needed 6 8x10 frames hung up and had already notified them of this need; however, Handyman left to go purchase equipment but was gone for over 40 minutes. Called and cancelled services due to delays and lack of transparency

Art was super friendly and fast, and he did all of our projects and a few more that just happened this morning. He even called us to move up our appointment because he had a last-minute cancellation, We recommend Budget Right Handyman without reservation. What a pleasant experience!

Justin showed up on time and came and assessed the damages before committing to being able to repair the problems. He was very professional and made me feel completely at ease with his abilities and engagement. He had all the tools needed to make the necessary repairs in a very timely fashion. Long story short, he made Angie's list seem like the best solution to any home repair need. My dad built the inside of this house from the upstairs to the basement. Now 52 years later and illness from neuropathy to dementia, he is o longer able to do any repairs or provide any resourceful help to get things done that are falling apart. I have moved back in to take care of him but had no idea what it would require to take care of this home I had grown up in all my childhood to adult life. My dad had made it seem effortless for years! I was so distraught that I couldn't find good help, After contracting three plumbers and paying skyrocket prices,the repairs never resolved the water leakage problems that were beginning to wear away the floor foundation under the kitchen sink. Justin came and repaired the problem in about 15 - 20 minutes and it hasn't leaked since! the stairwell was busted and torn down to be able to put furniture in the basement that wouldn't get through any stairway without destroying the wooden frame. Justin went to his car came back with this machine and drilled and repaired the stairwell with the wooden railings in less time than it took others to tear it up!! Unbelievable!!! The work was done so professionally and in record time. He completed everything so fast and efficiently that I was able to get an estimate on the next job I would have him do for me on his next visit. I highly recommend Angie's list and I highly recommend Justin for all home needs. I'm not gonna share too much more info about Justin because I want him to be available when I need him. At this rate because of his work ethic and expertise, I'm sure I'll have to schedule weeks in advance. But that's okay Justin is worth the wait! Thank you Angie's list! Awesome service!!

Called in to inquire if it is okay to come in 1 hour early, told him that was okay. Came in and did the work. Took less than 1 hour to do all the work!

Reese showed up on time and worked at a steady pace completing the work on time. This fan was shot and needed replacement but it also wobbled. Reese corrected this problem with the new fan.

After reading the reviews, and discussing the job with the owner over the phone, I felt really confident that I had chosen the right company. The technician showed up on time, and he completed the job thoroughly and efficiently. He knew exactly what the jobs entailed before I even had the chance to tell him, and he kept me appraised of his progress. When he had an issue installing our new medicine cabinet by himself, he made me aware that another technician was coming to help him keep it level, and that he was going to move on to the next job in the meantime. I was happy with the work completed, and I'm glad that he asked for help to get the job done right. My problem was with the professionalism of the technician. When the doorbell rang, I answered the door and found the technician on my doorstep smoking a cigarette. He put it out immediately (on my porch), and put the extinguished cigarette in his pocket. He made a comment that he had rang the doorbell a few times prior, and said "I wasn't standing here listening to you or anything", which I felt was a very strange comment. (Also, I was right in the kitchen just steps from the front door, and our doorbell works perfectly fine- kids ring it all day long). I do not have a problem with smokers, but any professional should know to finish the cigarette in the car, before walking up to your client's door and ringing the doorbell. My second issue is that when it was time to pay, the technician was fishing for a tip. He pointed out the gratuity on the invoice and said that I could add more for gratuity and that many people give tips. It was inappropriate and awkward, and probably more so for him, because I did not give in. When it comes to jobs like this, I will only tip if I feel the person went above and beyond. This guy did a fine job, but I did not feel that he went above and beyond. I am not saying that I would never hire Budget Right again, I would just ask for a different technician in the future.

Prior to service, I uploaded photos to Budget Right Handyman's website showing the door/frame attached to the brick wall. I also uploaded photos of the existing porch-light showing it was attached to a craggy uneven stone wall. Someone from their office called and gave me an estimate of 3 hours to complete the job. The "technician" they sent, Anthony R., arrived 30 minutes late. He proceeded to pull off the piece of the wooden frame. While removing the left piece, chunks of the brick and concrete mortar fell off. He attached the new piece of wooden frame. However, the screws he used were wood-screws. When he completed his "work", there were substantial gaps of approximately 1 inch between different parts of the brick wall and the new piece of wood frame. The wooden frame piece was poorly secured to the wall, the wood was loose and shaky. Anthony said I could just put in concrete or fill the gaps with foam myself. After Anthony was done with the door, it was just about as jammed/sticky as before, except now my door frame was loose, unsecured, and I had a big gap between the door and the wall. If i were to give the door a solid kick, it would easily be kicked open. When I confronted Anthony about this and expressed my displeasure, he blamed it on Budget Right Handyman HQ not giving him enough information about the project (they did not give him the photos that I had uploaded to their website) so that he didn't have the necessary masonry drill bit or other tools to do the job correctly. He said he could come back the next day to finish the job properly with the right tools and grind down the mortar/bricks to provide a flush surface to remount a new piece of wood for the door frame. Anthony then attempted to do the 2nd part of the service - remove and replace the existing working porch-light. Anthony removed the old-light but was unable to install the new standard porch-light, again blaming HQ that he didn't know that the wall was a craggy stone wall and that he didn't have the right equipment for the job. He said if he were to try to install the new porch-light, it would probably just fall off since the surface was uneven. Again, Anthony said he would bring something to stabilize the new porch-light when he comes back. Anthony taped up the wires and left the porch-light with no fixture whatsoever attached saying he would finish it tomorrow. He tried to get me to sign-off on the work and say I was satisfied, but i declined to sign the "satisfied" & "complete" line. Anthony wanted me to pay him before he would leave, so I gave him with the Angieslist Deal coupon (2 hours for $110). Anthony said he would come back and finish the project within 2 additional hours even if it actually took him longer to complete since the company and he screwed up (so that my total cost would not exceed 4 hours for both visits combined). I wanted him to put his promise in writing that he would come back the next day to finish the project as specified. However, he said he couldn't put it in writing and that I would need to re-schedule it with HQ so that he could come back the next day with the correct tools and to "trust" his word that he would finish the project as promised. He said to make sure to reschedule it with him so that HQ will send him since he was familiar with the project and would have the right tools, otherwise if HQ sent another handyman it may take more time and they might not have the proper equipment either. I called the HQ and (spoke to John) with Anthony standing next to me and rescheduled Anthony to come back the next day to complete the project. The next day, I received a call from another handyman from Budget Right Handyman, named Joe, asking if he could come earlier in the day instead. I was confused because it was my understanding that Anthony would be coming back instead as scheduled. Joe said he would call HQ and have them change the schedule so that Anthony would come as originally scheduled. About 2 hours later, John from Budget Right Handyman HQ, called about the change in handyman. I conveyed the events of the prior day and John said he doesn't think Budget Rite and my project was a "good fit" and that Budget Right Handyman would not be completing the project. When I asked why Anthony wasn't coming as promised, John claimed that I had tried to get Anthony to sign a contract (I asked him to put in writing that he would come back the next day to finish the project before I would pay him for his shoddy work) and that Anthony was not comfortable with that. John then brushed me off and refused to fix the problems left by Anthony (unsecured, shoddly attached frame and the removal of my porch-light). John also refused to refund me for the Angieslist coupon that I used to pay for the "service". I am extremely upset with Budget Right Handyman for the damage caused to my property, and at the very least, would like the $110 I paid for the Angieslist deal returned to me.

Art came on time sharp at 11:00 AM as planned. He immediately got to the work to be done, assessed what needed to be purchased, went to the Home Depot, got the materials needed and completed the job to our satisfaction. He first tried to resolve the door-jamming with WD-40 and determined that it was not adequate. What I liked about him is his sincerity, work ethic, punctuality and attempt to resolve the problem in a cost-effective and simple manner and explore other more expensive alternatives only as needed. If we need more service from Budget Right Handyman, we would look forward to Art coming and doing other work around the house as needed. I would highly recommend him for other customers just based on our experience.

I purchased the 2 hour deal, the person on the phone said that in most cases that is enough time to replace a door slab. However in speaking with the handyman, replacing/fitting the slab can take time, as the slab needs to be cut, notched for the hinges, bored for the locks; everything needs to match the old door so that it fits properly. All in all the job went ok, it just took over twice as long than anticipated. He worked very hard to get the door in, so overall I am satisfied.

They are awesome! Darian came out to dry wall a huge hole in our ceiling (due to a leaking pipe). He did a great job applying the dry wall, sanding it down and getting it ready for paint. Unfortunately, due to the Chicago heat he had to come out twice (the dry wall wasn't drying fast enough), but he wanted to make sure the job got done and was done right! He even cleaned up!! No joke, he took my vacuum and started to clean up after - I told him that wasn't necessary, but he insisted. I highly recommend Budget Right Handyman and I recommend asking for Darian!

The workman was pleasant, thorough and worked hard. He explained what he needed to do and then did it. Just as it should be! A pleasure.

He was careful and efficient. Had to adjust a few things to make the new items fit. . . .no fuss, no muss. He was terrific.
