Budget Right Handyman

I purchased a Big Deal for handyman services. Darren, painted the bathroom ceiling, installed a front doorbell ringer, he installed a hook for the backyard gate, and he tightened the front porch banister. He did a great job. I have used Budget Right Handyman before and I plan on using them again in the future and hope to get Darren again.

My first experience was not great, the 2nd experience with the carpenter was very good, but the 3rd experience with the electrician was wonderful. He was very good and worked quickly. I had a recent experience with a carpenter. Do not use Budget Right! I sent the pictures in to John, the manager. The trim was all cracked, because the nails that they used was too big for the trim. They did not want to pay for the trim. They stated that because I did not give John the opportunity to replace it. I did not want to replace it because of the bad experiences that I have had. It was about $40 worth of trim. I do not want anyone to go through the same experience that I did.

Guy came out and did the job as I needed and expected in a timely manner

He was good at what he was doing, he explained everything he was doing, and he knew what he was doing. He swept up after himself. However, he didn't use a drop-cloth to make sure not to damage flooring, so that bothered me a bit.

Got everything done in a good time. The guy that did the install was Mario and he was great!! Thank guys.

I thought the worker rushed through everything. He didn't have the right bit to installed the outside doorbell into brick, used part concrete glue which was messy. He claimed the 15' water connection line to the refrigerator was too short, so that didn't get done. The one thing that did get done was replacing the storm piece with the screen. I was not happy.

Mike was punctual, explained everything related to this project in detail and very skilled.

Have used Budget Right about 4 or 5 times. Always happy with their work. Did not know handyman companies existed until I discovered them on Angie's List. Have tried other companies since but keep coming back to Budget Right.

It was a great experience. He was a little early. Mario S. was very efficient and professional. He got the job done in less time than expected. He gave excellent advise on what I should buy and look for in this project. He cleaned up after himself and it was a great experience.

It was fine. It was a week or two after I purchased it.

The two light fixtures that were replaced on my garage do not work as they should. They are motion lights. One light stays on all the time and the other comes on and off to fast. The door knob that was put on the service door works great. Thinking an electrician might be needed to resolved this problem. The serviceman that was sent out was very nice and professional but I do need this problem corrected.

Darrin called before he arrived to keep me updated on his timing. He was friendly and professional. I have an older home with plaster walls, but this was not a problem for him at all. He was careful with placement of the TV, and cleaned up the debris when he was done. He even offered to take care of any odds and ends in the time that was left after the installation of the TV, It was a great experience. I would definitely use this company again. Thanks Darrin!

I went to Angie's List Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2016. Within the hour, I had spoken to Paul, the Project Manager. My appointment was made for the next day - today. Darrin Vance came at the time he was scheduled to be here. He explained that my estimated time was two hours. I asked if he could stay if all the odd jobs were not done in two hours. He said he would stay as long as necessary. He did everything I asked. Fixed sticking doors. Fixed Storm door closing Fixed cabinet door that was difficult to open. Replaced a Haligon (sic) light bulb. Reglued the base to a lamp. Fixed seams on the wallpaper. Changed door knobs Cleaned exterior limestone windowsills. He doubled checked to be sure that each job was done to my satisfaction. He cleaned up after himself. I am starting a new to-do list today. When I have approximately two hours of work, I will call Budget Right Handyman and ask for Darrin Vance

Extremely efficient in reaching out & following-up, maximized the time we had purchased and stayed within the estimated timeline provided prior to job.

It was fast and the least expensive

It all boiled down to glue – a bottle of Gorilla glue which sells at Walgreens for $5.99. Unlike a request to repair a leaking faucet or toilet, during which the repair process may reveal a need for a new rubber ring or washer, when I specify that the service I’m requesting is minor furniture glue repairs, I expect the technician to be equipped with the tools to do the job, i.e., glue. Apparently though, glue is not a “tool” but rather a “supply”. After completing a ceiling fan installation, the technician addressed the next project on the list, the aforementioned furniture gluing. He told me he did not have any glue and would go get some and would not be long. I asked if he was familiar with the area, to which he replied he was. One hour later he returned with the glue. I asked if he got lost. He said no. He was told (not by me) to go to Home Depot. When the job was completed, I was disturbed to see that I was billed at the hourly rate of $82 for the 1 hour trip to Home Depot. In total, I was billed the equivalent of 2 ½ hours for 1 ½ hours work. When I spoke to The Budget Right Handyman representative, from the 1st he was argumentative, which suggests to me he’s had to defend this practice before. “Why would you expect a repairman who is paid hourly to forego an hour’s pay when running an errand to buy supplies for YOUR project?” My reply was that when I specify the job is gluing furniture, I expect the technician to come prepared with the tools to do the job, at which point I was told the glue is not a tool but rather a supply, and that if I had read my service agreement I would know that I was solely responsible for providing all supplies required for the project. My next question was why I would be charged for a 1 hour trip to a remote Home Depot through airport traffic to buy glue which is available at the Jewel/Osco 4 blocks away or at the Walgreens on virtually every corner? As a concession, he agreed to reduce the charge to ½ hour and is that fair? Frankly, I don’t think $41 is a fair charge for a bottle of gorilla glue. I also don’t think “fairness” can be negotiated. Either your practices are fair or they aren’t. But I agreed to the charge, because I accepted that the fault was mine in hiring this company for the project in the first place, with the understanding that I would never use them again for future projects. The BRH representatives said that this was fine on their end. Although the service agreement may have specified my responsibility for providing the glue, a little courtesy goes a long way. If the technician had mentioned at the 1st that glue would be needed for the project, I could have gone to get it and been back in the hour he spent installing my ceiling fan. But it appears courtesy, along with customer satisfaction and return business are not priorities for Budget Right Handyman. My advice if you hire this company, is to read your service agreement thoroughly, and make sure you have all required supplies on hand for your job lest you end up paying $82 for the blades for your technician’s Exacto-knife. Anybody interested in buying some Gorilla Glue? I’ll let it go for what I paid for it - $41. That’s fair, isn’t it?

The handyman did a very good job. He painted 1 wall in the bathroom and closed a stuck window for me for a 2 hour voucher which cost $110.

It was great. Great job by Nate. My only issue was that they advertised the deal to be for 110 for 200 dollars worth of time whereas, in reality, they normally charge 118 for two hours. It was not a deal per se. I would still hire them but directly rather than through Angie's list.

Budget Right Handyman was exactly the service we were looking for. We had several small projects that needed to be done, but I had put them off a short while because I figured I had to call several different places. I was wrong! Budget Right sent out Mike, who was just fantastic, to install a new motion detector light, remove some old plumbing in a bathroom we're looking to rehab mostly ourselves, and inspected and repaired some rotting wood at the base of an otherwise sturdy shed we have. The best part was that he was able to diagnose exactly what we needed to have done, then could run out for parts, and do the work we NEEDED, rather than me guessing what had to be done. In the end they budgeted a high of 9 hours for our projects, but we only used about 7, so that is what we paid for, plus materials. They also were able to schedule him the day after I called, and I was told the hourly rate up front, so there were no surprises. I am very impressed with the service, responsiveness, help and quality of this entire experience. I will be sure to call Budget Right Handyman in the future.

Steve is usually the person that comes out and always does an awesome job. There is not too many things that he cannot tackle or figure out to make it work. He is courteous and listens to you and any concerns that you have about the job and in addition he does not linger over his work that will cost you more money. When he is not available, I will wait until he is available to do my jobs. He is great!!!!

The door was not installed properly. The door has been installed in the middle of the walkway, it is not flush with the edge of the trim. Now the poor installation of the door is affecting my alarm system and the storm door as well. I had expressed to the Handyman that the door didn't look like it was being installed properly and he had informed that it was. I have reached out to the company 3 or 4 times to complain about the poorly installed door. No one has contacted me back to fix the issue.

The work went very well! They were very professional, and I felt very comfortable with them in my home. I was very impressed with their work!

It went very well. Mike made it a point to explain the procedure, told me what he would do and how he would do it. Also explained that any materials he would sho me the bill and I would pay for it. He was very prompt, organized and very informative. He shoed me what he did when finished to make sure I was happy with it. He also cleaned up and vacuumed when he was done. I would highly recommend him for future job I need done.
