Budget Right Handyman

I chose budget right because they could fit my schedule as opposed to "we can fit you in about three weeks from now but will have to cover the end of one week and start of the next" The price was also a bit high, but that was acceptable for an hourly rate outfit. The other quotes were in the 2500 to 3000 range. From the picture you can see an example of the finishing work that was not able to be completed in the quoted time/price. There were numerous such places throughout the job that had to be remudded and sanded to resolve the problems observable in the picture. In some very visible areas the work was exceptional and we were very satisfied. The most frustrating part was that I had to have worker #1 redo the work of worker #2 as worker #2 sanded the drywall seam down to the tape and in some cases the paper fuzz. An entire day of work by worker #2 was wasted due to this problem. The wet sanding that worker #2 did was a total waste of time as worker #1 had to remud both areas to resolve visible tape lines and edge chopping similar to that seen in the picture. While worker #1 was able to get 2 of the 3 areas redone on the final day, the 3rd still requires considerable time on my part to complete. I would say on the whole that both drywallers would be excellent choices for small jobs as they were both competent and expedient in getting the work done. Worker #2 requires substantial lighting as that is the only explanation I can put forth for him sanding the seams down to the underlying tape as he did a great job in the garage. As for large drywall jobs, I would say stick to the professionals for both pricing and quality. As for the service, they were quick to respond to setting up the job but obviously did nothing to resolve the cost issues of having one worker redo the work of the other. I will note that this is the first time I went with paid drywallers as I normally do this myself which is why I cut them 4 hours short on the final day because only one of the workers was doing the finishing work to my preferred level (reread part about sanding down to the tape) and I did not see the point in paying worker #2 any more money.

They didn't complete the job and when I complained they sent out another contractor that destroyed more materials and completed the job at first glance. Later the quality of the repair was apparent when a week later the drywall was bubbling and paint cracking. Also when I removed the tape the contractor told me to it removed the finish on my quarter- round. When I submitted the form to update them no response.

I am putting house on the market and needed help installing kitchen cabinet hardware, filling in a gap (from settling) under my front steps, installing a ceramic soap dish in my shower, and install some cellular blinds. I hired handyman for two hours (special deal). He arrived over a half hour late, which cost me extra since I took off of work. He made a template which I could use to easily install hardware myself and save time, but template was slightly off for drawer handles so I had to adjust with my drill. He did a good job on filling in the gap under the front steps and explained how I could use the rest of the concrete mix I had purchased for a later project. He went over the time and charged me for an extra hour. During the three hours, he produced the template for the kitchen cabinets and filled in the gap under the steps. In my opinion, he should have been able to do a lot more in the 3 hours. That said, what he did was very helpful. I hired Budget Right Handyman previously and was very happy. I might hire again, but would probably try another vendor, first.

Not good. The company called me Saturday am and left message to confirm. I called them back same day to confirm the time of the appointment as I had a 10 am appointment elsewhere, no answer. No return call that day. Someone called on Sunday in the morning, but I just missed the call. I immediately called back. No answer. I sent a text and called again on Sunday. Finally got in contact with Brad who told me that he was the only person in the office. Advised that I needed to speak with someone regarding the time as I had a 10 am appointment elsewhere. Was told that my appointment with the Handyman was actually at 8 am and not in the afternoon as I thought. I advised that I couldn't make an 8 am appointment---and here is when the conversation went completely awry. Before I could even continue about trying to make another time, Brad threatened me with a 24 hour cancellation charge, which shocked me because no such charge was agreed upon. I told Brad that the company was not authorized to charge my card as no 24 hour cancellation charge was agreed upon. (and because I would have cancelled the day before had anyone bothered to call me back to tell me the time of the appointment) He tried to get me to admit on tape that I had agreed to the charge, but I refused because I had not agreed to the charge. He put me on hold (purportedly to speak with his Supervisor--which was interesting since he initially told me he was the only one in the office). He came back and told me that because my voicemail message the day before didn't mention cancelling the appointment, that they would charge my credit card for the cancellation fee. I again advised that such as charge was not agreed upon or authorized. I also stated that I would be posting about my experience on Angies' List and Nextdoor. Brad called me back later and told me that he listened to the "tape" of the initial conversation and agreed that I was not advised of a 24 hour cancellation charge so they would not charge me. I told him that I would still post about my experience as one of the worst transactions I've ever had with a company.....whereupon "Dirk" got onto the call. Dirk stated that he was the owner of the company and that since I was not charged I had no transaction with the company. (I guess he figured that if I had no transaction I couldn't report my experience) I attempted to explained to him that the word "transaction" is not limited to "financial" exchanges, but he refused to listen. Call ended. I'm glad I didn't let them do the work. Not recommended based on customer service and attitude. I cannot comment on the work of the actual handymen because I did not have any work performed. If you choose to retain this company, please make sure everything is in writing before the appointment so you don't have the same experience I had. Addendum: After reading several reviews, I noticed a pattern. For nearly every “F” or "D" review, the company responded with an attack on the reviewer rather than an apology. That behavior is entirely consistent with my experience with this company.

I've used this service before and was really happy with it.( professional, on time, on target and good work) I sent a request for a porch repair and this time the person who called me back sounded like a kid. Verbally gave me a quote, didn't ask for pictures. I asked for the quote in writing which I got but when I pushed ( because the quote was really low) I didn't get the response I expected. Seemed very inconsistent with my previous experience with this company. I realize that no one typically raises an issue with a quote that is to low but in this case I moved on from what I thought was a reliable vendor to other services due to the vagueness of the phone support.

I received a call from Chris the project manager telling me there was a delay with the job my requested tech, Mario C,was working on and that if I wanted to keep my prepaid and scheduled appointment they would have to send some else or I would have to WAIT another 8 to 10 days to get the tech Mario C. I am livid. I already prepaid and waited over 8 days for this appointment. As well as paying for an estimate for what I thought was going to be an 5,000.00, upcoming job with. Budget Right Handyman Services seems to disregard their printed and promoted concept of efficient affordable home repairs. It appears that Budget Right is no longer concerned with previous customers and our small jobs of home repairs, only larger projects. It appears they are bumping out prepaid pre-scheduled customers and their home repair needs. The only was I will continue doing business with this company is there is a honorable resolution reached and they enforce honorable work and scheduling practices.

I was so pleased: from my initial phone call being answered after being on hold for under a minute! I sent pictures of the damage and was gotten back to within 15minutes. We booked a time for that day and by noon all was completed. It was all done in under an hour! Dave was really good.

Found out toilet was not clogged anymore after running water test. However per technician the broken dishwasher had a leak that warped flooring beneath it making it difficult to remove. He finally got it removed but tore the wall behind it in the process. Broken dry wall, insulation and electrical pipes sticking out ( Floor and wall will be next project).

great, board was replaced quickly and looks like new.

Work was completed with a half hour to spare.

Handyman was on time, wore feet coverings and got the job done in quick time. very pleaseed

I purchased a coupon through Angie's List for $110 for 2 hours work. I told the scheduler the coupon I had and the exact job--removal of overhead microwave and installation of a new one...not complicated. We scheduled a date. On the date, the handyman was running late--4 hours late! I took the day off of work, so I agreed for him to come out anyway. When he arrived, he went to the kitchen, came back out and said that it would require 2 men to do, so he couldn't do the job anyway! ***! I'm a single mom of 4 kids...to schedule a day off of work is a huge financial hit! So after a wasted day, I had to schedule a new appt but for 2 men. I described the work, they sent 1 man to do--they should have known better! So trying to re-schedule, I'm told they couldn't honor the coupon I purchased because the work now requires 2 men and the coupon is only for 1. IT DOES NOT STATE ANYWHERE IN THE COUPON FOR 1 MAN ONLY (as a note, that same offer is still live and still does not state for 1 man only as other competitor coupons clearly state whether 1 or 2 or doesn't matter). They said they would look into it and call me back -- I had several weeks of run around. I gave them clear times I'm available for a call, but they would call on any time other than those I specified as available--it was clear they did not want to speak directly to me and own up to their mistake. I would call back, and the manager was all of a sudden not available....and again would call me during times I specified I would not be available. I got sick of it all, contacted Angie's List for a coupon refund. I ended up going through Yelp, and found a great Handyman service (Big Helpers) who...when I described the job, scheduled for 2 men...showed up early, finished the job early and threw in extra work with the time left over--faster, cheaper, more reliable service. I now use them regularly and have referred to other friends and family. As for this horrible experience with Budget Right, I'm also cancelling my Angie's List membership because I clearly found better work and customer service on (free) Yelp.

This is not a review of work done by Budget Right Handyman. Rather it is a cautionary tale to anyone who might require their services. We needed 21 feet of privacy fence replaced at our home in Chicago. Budget Right charged $19 to estimate and said the job would take as much as 2 1/2 days to complete and gave us a cost estimate of $3000 for labor only. We were to buy the materials ourselves at an estimated cost of $500. We were surprised that 21 feet of fence would cost $3500 to replace so we got a second estimate. That estimate from a reputable company came in at $1,500 for installation AND materials. The moral: get additional estimates.

They mounted a TV on the wall. At first, it was not good. It ended up fine because I contacted Angie's List and they came back and fixed it.

The technician that came out was on time and professional and had all the right equipment to do the job that I needed to be done. I would have no problem hiring this company again.

He was very nice and everything was done on time.

They were punctual, knowledgeable, did a good job and the price was right. I'm pleasantly surprised. It's not often that I can honestly say I think I got more than what I paid for. I'll use them again. I've used them twice so far.

He did an okay job but I could have done the job better. The work was sloppy and was not sealed well at all. It was not leveled. I would not use them again.

He fixed it in 15 minutes...then we asked him to straighten out a cabinet door in our kitchen. He attempted to fix it...but was not able to do it to my liking. He had an hour felt on his service we paid for...and was in a BIG hurry to leave...he was suppose to arrive at 5pm...came at 6.... and the first 2 appts. he never showed up...no call no show. Will never use this service again....whoever does the scheduling is an idiot....at least call the client if the handyman is not coming or is running late.

Could not have ask for a better response to my needs. The technician was very knowledgeable and quick to find solutions to discovered and potential obstacles. He was very personable and the kind of guy I would trust to take care of my grandparents. I am very very happy with the results. It looks so.................professional.
