We contracted B. Allendorfer Co at the recommendation of a home inspector. It was a huge mistake. We were told several times by Phil Figaro that work would begin "in a couple weeks" only to have weeks go by after that with no communication. Finally after 6 months of waiting and failed promises they showed up. They installed the roof over the course of three days, but did not install the gutter. It rained that weekend. We had water coming in the back windows of our two-flat and our back yard was flooded. They returned several days later to install the gutter and downspout, but the downspout was not installed correctly and now leaks. During this process Ryan from their office contacted us requesting final payment. They had included tuckpointing for the chimney in the quote/contract, but had not done the tuckpointing work and I had to call them out for not completing the job. After all the issues, Brian Allendorfer (the owner) came to our house to do a final walk-through. He promised me to my face that he would have a team fix the gutter that continues to leak. It has been 12 weeks since that day and we have not seen any work done, despite several unanswered emails asking for an update.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. If you decide to hire this company after reading this review, so be it but at least I can say that I shared my stressful experience (to say the least). If I can only go back in time, I would still have the $6,475 down payment that still has not been returned to me. After my uncle passed away, I decided to have the roof of his home replaced in order to prepare the house to be sold. On the recommendation of a family member, I contacted Brian Allendorfer Company, Inc. (“Allendorfer”) to have this done. We hired them on May 2, 2016, selected the color of the replacement roof, and paid them $6,475 as a down payment for the work to be done. Additionally, Marc Livingston, Allendorfer’s representative, stated that work would commence in three weeks. Although the check was quickly cashed, not only did Allendorfer fail to commence work in three weeks as promised, but they failed to contact me to let me know that work was behind schedule. After waiting for another three weeks to hear from Allendorfer, my husband reached out to Allendorfer. He spoke with Ryan Livingston, another representative of Allendorfer. Ryan apologized for the delay and for failing to keep us informed. He then stated that the work could begin in approximately two weeks and that he would keep us informed. Despite these promises, another six weeks went by without a word from Allendorfer. At this point, it had been twelve weeks since we hired Allendorfer. Completely frustrated, I contacted my cousin, who had recommended Allendorfer’s services, to ask him to reach out to Allendorfer. He did so and we immediately received an email from, Phil Figaro, another Allendorfer representative. In his email, Phil claimed that they would start next week. Furthermore, he stated that he did not see a color selection in the file and would “drop off a color sample tomorrow so we can get [the] project going.” However, Phil failed to deliver on that promise. Even worse, despite Phil’s promise, work did not commence the following week. At this point, both my husband and I felt that we had given Allendorfer more than enough chances to deliver on its promises. My husband called Allendorfer to give them a final chance to get the work done or return our money. We were willing to overlook Allendorfer’s continued failure to get the job done if they would start work immediately. During this phone call, my husband spoke again to Phil Figaro. Mr. Figaro gave no indication that the company was willing to do the work immediately and told my husband that he did not have the authority to return her funds, but that he would speak with someone in charge and get back to us.   The next day I emailed Mr. Figaro to follow up on my refund request. No response. My husband phoned again the next day and left a message. No response. At this point, we had had enough. I sent a certified letter to Allendorfer demanding the immediate return of the down payment. It took Allendorfer another month to respond and claim they were behind schedule and that this was “explained” to us. At the end of their response, Allendorfer had the audacity to invite me to contact their office to schedule the roof replacement! I thought that is what I had been trying to do for the last four months! I checked on Angie’s List and was horrified to discover that Allendorfer has earned the grade of “F” 29 times! If only I had known about this company before I gave them my money. It is now more than a year later and Allendorfer has still not returned my money; I gave them multiple chances to complete the work and be done with it, but all they have done is make empty promises. Words cannot express how strongly I wish to discourage other people from hiring this company. There are plenty of roofing companies out there and I have to believe that there are companies out there that have the integrity to stand by their promises or, at the very least, to return the unearned down payment when they fail to begin work as promised.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went fine. As it turned out, they inspected and didn't find any fault that needed to be dealt with. The fact that they said, You're fine, showed that they knew what they were doing and weren't just looking to upsell me. He pointed out one or two little flashing problems and then said, We can do it if you want, but whatever, you're fine, and then I ended up having them take care of it. I actually was surprised they have been followed up. I own a business too and if I were them I would follow up with me, but beyond that, they seemed honest. I remember the scheduling being not an issue at all. They were efficient, the guy who came by seemed competent, and I did not have too much of a deeper experience than that. Overall experience was fine.

We loved Brian Allendorfer. He was always very professional, very nice man & was always there to answer any of our questions. We used them several times for our condo building. His employees were great & were also very professional. Although his prices were higher than most, we felt he was worth every penny of it. Unfortunately, Brian had a horrible accident where he fell off a 10 story building & hurt several major organs. While he was out, we had to work with some of the other B Allendorfer's workers, which in my opinion were not up to Brian's usual standards. We needed his company to dismantle a glass partition on a 5th floor deck & re apply the top of the wall & we were disappointed with the job. The workers had to re do the job several times because of the sloppiness & the esthitics. Now that Brian is recovering, we hope he can be back with the same quality we were used to. We don't feel it was Brian Allendorfer's fault that his workers wern't as compitent as he is & I would never hold that against him.

While we had a minor scheduling problem, they did come out to do the work which we appreciatedas it was a small job. While they were on the roof, we also hired them to do some external painting. They did a great job and charged a very fair and affordable price. Their team was very friendly and nice to work with. I would use them again!

I was also told that once they came out to do the caulking they would have someone come out with a ladder to check the roof. Apparently, the original estimator did not have a ladder high enough, but I suspect he just didn't want to be bothered to get on the roof himself. I rec'd the estimate and items were left off that I had requested - specific windows to be caulked, etc.The estimate was revised and the job was approved. I wasn't able to be here when they came to do the work. When I got back, I noticed that the windows I had specified to be caulked had not. I called and they said they would send the original estimator back out. He reviewed the work 3 days later and then tried to tell me that they weren't planning on caulking everything until I reminded him of the revised estimate. The work was done that day and appeared to be well done. I was told that they inspected the roof on 10/29 and would get back to me with their recommendations. I'm still waiting. I have emailed and called them several times, but have yet to hear back from them a month later. This company should not be confused with Allendorfer Roofing - THEY ARE NOT THE SAME COMPANY.
Description of Work: We needed some outdoor caulking done and a new vent cover installed on the side of our house. I also wanted someone to check our roof as I was told by Domicile Consulting that the new coping Nyberg Enterprises installed was done incorrectly and with the wrong materials.

Thank goodness for Brian Allendorfer Roofing and Masonry. I live in a 6 unit condo building which is just over 10 years old. The flat roof was of poor construction. Last summer one of the 3rd floor units had significant damage due to water coming in from the roof leaks and we realized we needed not only a new roof but a rebuild of the 6 foot masonry parapet. As a self-managed condo association, we had no less than 6 different roofers and masonry companies bid on the roofing and masonry re-work. From the outset Brian Allendorfer stood out. Brian provided a very detailed masonry and roofing estimate. He came to several of our evening condo meetings to answer various questions. More than that, he and his team were able to deal with some particularly difficult and picky residents. I think many companies would have walked, but Brian continued to work with us. Many Chicago area condos sustained hail damage in early 2011, so they were backlogged as it was, yet he worked with us. Brian was able to get our 2-week long project in before winter set in, a true feat given the length of time our association spent vetting and working through the various proposals. I can’t say enough how glad I am we choose Brian Allendorfer to do the work. He and his team were professional, always positive, and very responsive throughout the process. I would highly recommend Brain Allendorfer for any roofing and masonry work.

The crew arrived on time and were very professional and efficient. The cleaned up all their scraps and did a thorough job. We no longer have any leaks in the ceilings. All in all it was a well down job.
Description of Work: This is a follow up to my initial review when the company did not perform the work I had contracted. After I posted on the list Brian Allendorfer called me to profusely apologize. He had been injured and stated things had slipped while he was out of commission. He came to my house, and offered to bring back his crew to review the work they had done and to also recaulk the skylights for no additional charge. They removed the old shingles around the skylightsand replaced those. The recaulked all the skylights and replaced additional shingles that had blown away.

After several attempts to have them come out to look at the roof they had to keep rescheduling due to weather and unexpected delays on other jobs. When I complained about this a few months later, Brian Allendorfer Jr. immediately came out to my house and looked things over with me. He apologized for the initial trouble scheduling a time and explained that someone had been out to look at the roof when I wasn't home and found more work than the Big Deal accounted for but they failed to follow up with me so I could explain what I wanted to do. We discussed the work and he agreed to fix all the problem areas for no extra charge because of this delay and confusion about the job. They did a fantastic job! I am really pleased with the quality of the repair work they performed and they really went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. In the end I think they spent closer to 5 or 6 hours doing various repair work on my roof so we can get a few more good years out of it before we need to replace it. I will definitely call them again when it is time to replace it.

I purchased the $199 Big Deal and within 30 minutes was able to schedule an appointment for the repair within the next week. The 2-man roofing crew (Supervisor: Manny) arrived 10 minutes early and met with me to discuss what problems we had. The deal called for 2 hours total (1hr per person), however Manny and his partner spent an extra 20 minutes working to finish replacing all the necessary shingles. When they were done, they were professional and cleaned up all the shingles that fell and returned the extra shingles to the storage area.

The repair seemed sufficient though it has been hard to tell because the rains we were having greatly diminished and the leak stopped. The request for an estimate was not responded to by the company. Finally, after several phone calls, a representative came out and looked at the roof. He told me that the roof was in a state of deterioration caused by the shingles breaking down prematurely. He also told me that the manufacturer had some sort of claim program to receive partial payment for their faulty materials. In any case, he said that a proposal for the replacement of the roof would be out in a few days via mail or email. The proposal was eventually emailed to me in November, 2011.
Description of Work: Contacted the company via a coupon offering for a roof inspection and minor repair covering 2 hours of labor. No one responded to the prepaid coupon until I finally contacted them. They took several days to respond to my phone messages and finally made an appointment for a visit. The visit was conducted by one of their employees and a minor repair was completed. Their employee told me and then showed me how bad my roof looked. I requested him to have someone come out and provide me a detailed estimate. The estimate for a new roof was emailed to me in November, 2011. The amount of time between the time I first contacted the company and the time that I received their estimate was over two months. In the meantime, I had contacted two other roofers who had provided me with detailed cost estimates within 1 to 4 days of looking at my roof. I must comment that since I filed this report with Angie's List, Brian Allendorfer has been extremely attentive to my needs. I only wish that this had been the case from the beginning.

I had purchased Brian Allendorfer's last Big Deal for $199 for Roof Maintenance and unfortunately had a very poor experience. We could not find a date that worked for quite a while which is understandable given the amount of people who purchased the last Big Deal, however the problems really started when he finally did send someone out to look at our roof. The guy Allendorfer sent out came on a Monday afternoon when only one person was home at our 4 unit condo building. That person works from home, so they let the worker in and onto the roof for the inspection. After worker was finished, he did not speak to anyone before he left about what he saw or if he was concerned about anything. I subsequently have called Allendorfer 4-5 times, spoke to them and asked for a report so I could report back to my condo association on the findings/recommendations and have repeatedly been told that "I'll get back to you.....or he must not have found anything concerning or he would have told me about it and recommended further follow up." I just cannot accept that answer and certainly my condo association cannot accept the fact that we paid $199 and could not even get a 1-2 page report of what was in good condition, what was wearing down, etc... I feel luck to only be "out" $199, and really hope someone does not plop down over $6,000 on this company that seems to in over its head with these Big Deals where it has significantly affected their execution, customer service and follow up. Buyer Beware!

Don't purchase the Big Deal! I purchased and paid for the Angies Big Deal at the end of August 2011. It is now mid-November and I still have not received any services. I made an appointment for 3pm 11/18/11 the company did not show up, did not call, no email, nothing. If they are trying to improve their Angie's List reviews by offering this deal, it is not helping. Rescheduled the appointment for 12/3/11, again no show, no call, no email, I am going to try and get my money back.
