Blacklite Electric

My go to electrician from this point forward. I had a significant issue in my house where all the electricity from the house to the garage had to be redone. All the wiring and piping had to be done from scratch. I had 2 other electricians come out and tell me it was my deck lights that needed to be replaced. Neville was the only one that diagnosed the problem. He did over 9 hours of work with 2-3 men and the total was about 900. He was much cheaper than the others and he actually fixed the problem. He is punctual, hard working and completely trustworthy. I wish I had found him earlier in the process. He communicates over text which I find fantastic. He told me the reason he does this is because he is always on jobs. He doesn't want you to be paying him while he is on the phone for 15 mins discussing an issue with another client. Valid point. Neville owns the company and only has 2 people working for him. He takes pride in his work and he gets the job done. I have already recommended him to other people and he just worked on my house yesterday. Thanks again Neville!

They were so expensive. I'd give them a B overall because of the price. They did a good job but it was super expensive. To get an A rating, they should have a better price. I liked everything else like professionalism and punctuality.

Short version: A+ start to finish. Longer version: I thought it was a bit unusual to communicate solely via text message, but welcome to 2015. I called Blacklite on Wednesday and listened to the recording suggesting that I send a text message. So via a text I outlined 3-jobs that I needed done (dimmer replacement, switch replacement, outlet replacement) and within a ridiculously short period of time I received a response from Neville quoting their rate structure and requesting additional information on a couple of things on my list. A few texts and pictures later, I was added to the schedule on the day I requested which was a Friday, only 2-days out. I asked if I should pick up the parts and Neville suggested that it would be less expensive for me if I did, so off I went to my local hardware store, pictures in hand. Fast forward to today, appointment day. My arrival window was between 9 and 11am. Full disclosure, Johnny arrived a few minutes after that window BUT I was notified early that his prior job was running long and when I could reasonably expect him. Props for excellent communication and this was totally not a problem for me. Johnny arrived smile on face, put on his shoe coverings and went to work. While he was here I found one bulb related issue that wasn?t on the list I provided in advance and asked if he could tackle that one as well. Johnny knocked out everything professionally and quickly. Rates were great, texting is efficient, Neville is responsive and Johnny is a skilled professional (and easy to talk to while still being fast on the job.) All good here.

Johnny came in and did a great job explaining to me how he was going to perform the job to accomodate my requests for outlets etc in my newly built office. I then had him come back and wire in some outlets for a grid display of leds for me and set them to a switch. He also ran a line for my hot water heater in the bathroom from an existin power source. He was very maticulous and didn't waste any materials when he installed everything. I even had a couple of cover plates on hand that he used that didnt cost me anything extra. Its really great and refreshing to see honest solid work done at a great price. I have a couple of other projects that i am going to definitely use these guys for.

Neville, the owner, and Johnny persisted through Polar Vortex 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 to troubleshoot, test, and eventually replace all components and wiring for our condo building's outdoor intercom and front door buzzer system. They returned at least 6 times to replace all the parts and wires; they could not work very long at once with bare fingers in the freezing weather, but faithfully returned every time temperatures raised above 15-20 degrees. I really appreciated their persistence with the weather conditions. Our buzzer and intercom system is now working perfectly, and they even improved the door closure as a side benefit--now our front door closes regularly for the first time in the eight years we have lived in the building. Neville is very friendly and communicative so I knew what the status was through what turned out to be a long project.

The owner was able to give me an appointment for the next day, which I greatly appreciated. He sent the electrician I had requested (Johnny). Johnny did an excellent job. A few words of caution: this company charges by the hour-- make sure you track the time actually spent working, so that you can negotiate a fair price. I personally don't think I should have to pay for time spent going back/forth to the car (in this case 3 times), or going to the store for supplies. I explained that to the owner and we reached a fair price.

Owner sent the electrician I requested (Johnny). Electrician arrived on time. He mounted TV on bracket I had provided, but did not hide wires, so finished product did not appear professionally done. In addition, I do not think I was charged a fair price. I was not informed that this job would require the service of two electricians. I do not believe that this job required the service of two electricians. When Johnny showed up with his brother, I assumed that his brother was just coming to watch and learn and commented to that effect. My comment was not disputed. I was not informed that he was an electrician. I was not informed that I was being charged for his time. And he really didn't do anything. So, you can imagine my shock when the bill came for almost double what I had expected. If I had known I had two electricians on site, and I was paying for each separately, I would have sent one of them home or had them each work on different projects because mounting my 32 inch TV was a one-person job. I explained this to the owner, and we met halfway on the price, but I still feel I overpaid because I would never have hired two men for this particular job and finished product left much to be desired. In the end, I had to hire another electrician that specialized in audio visual installations to finish the job right. The new electrician was able to hide the wires, enable HD functionality and rewire/consolidate existing outlets so the finished product looks as it should. I wish I had hired him from the start. Too bad I can't post before/after photos with this review. Here's the bottom line: do not hire Blacklite for audio visual installations, when you do hire Blacklite keep track of the time the provider actually works, and be sure to confirm the number of electricians required for the job with the owner in advance, so you are not overcharged.

My experience overall went excellently. The pricing was reasonable for the quality of work. I was very pleased with the work provided. Johnny was very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this company to others.

They are good. I like them. They are professional and fair. They are generous in their advice. They have good ability to improvise if things not perfect. I would use them again.

He was very professional throughout the entire time he was here. The owner, Neville, is very personable and goes out of his way to make sure that he is being professional at all times. He will ask you lots of questions just so he has a good understanding of what your problem is. He gets the job done very much under the pricing of what other electricians would charge to do the exact same kind of service. He is very fast about getting his work done too, and does troubleshooting on the spot. He keeps you abreast of every step of the process even when he is working. When he is not there, he will give you detailed information of what he did and is 100% legit.
