+ -1 moreSee the above story about replacing and updating a Freon based A/C unit with a high efficiency unit that included a crane to lift the unit to the roof, updating the coils, and repairing some less than stellar repair work that was previously performed in my mechanical room.
Description of Work: I contacted Besco Air Inc. to evaluate my existing A/C unit and received a call back within 15-30 minutes of leaving a message. After speaking to Joe Pedota on the telephone, I explained to him that I was looking for information and had received a quote and possible options to replace my current A/C unit. He evaluated the products that I received quotes on, and steered me (correctly) away from making a mistake in choosing a low-end product. Joe came out to my home within 2 days, looked at my existing A/C unit on my roof, and had three different choices for me to choose from and explained in person the pros and cons of each. I gathered more information after meeting with Joe and found that everything that he had spoken to me about was true and accurate. I made my decision to have Besco replace my existing unit with a high efficiency unit (that's working beautifully) after Joe told me about how competent his installation team was. They were spectacular. They solved a problem that I had been living with for a number of years with some prior work that had been done in my mechanical room, lifted a new A/C unit on the roof of my townhome (in an extremely small and limited space) within 30 minutes, and went above and beyond my expectations with the level of professionalism and service. Joe even showed up during the install to see how things were going. The 'team' at Besco Air is obviously a Service First organization that receives my highest marks for quality service! I don't know why I was surprised to find that they're already 'stars' on Angie's List. Thank you guys! My neighbors have asked me for your contact information, and I have had no hesitation giving it to them.

+ -1 moreOverall, BestCo were very responsive to our phone calls, and everyone who came out understood the problem and the solution. I asked a lot of questions and they went to great lengths to make sure we understood both the problem, our options, and their recommendations. My only complaint was that when they drilled through the walls to vent the new furnace, they made a huge mess. Both when they drilled through drywall and hardwood floor, they didn't warn me of the mess involved, and didn't cover my furniture. The resulting sawdust and drywall dust went everywhere. If you're going to have them do any of this kind of work, ask them ahead of time what measures you should take to protect your stuff.
Description of Work: BestCo came in to fix several problems we were experiencing with out underfloor radiant heating. Although it was fairly obvious that we needed to have the furnace ripped out and a new one re-installed, BestCo did tell us about other options, which they were willing to do. They also explained, quite fairly, that they had no idea how long the "fix" would last. To support their conclusion that the furnace in question should never have been installed in the first place, they contacted the manufacturer and printed off the relevant pages of the web side rather than just giving us their professionalism opinion. I have no doubt that their recommendation was honest and fair. BestCo ended up replacing a furnace for our under floor heating, and venting it to the outside (which had not been done).

+ -1 moreBesco is the best. I have used them perhaps 3 different times now. In this case, we returned from vacation to discover our A/C was no longer cooling. Besco's technicians came the same day I called and diagnosed the problem. The next day they made sure to have the needed part and returned to install it. They did everything possible to fit me in during a very high demand day/week. The part needed was expensive, but it turns out it was under warranty still. I paid for the labor and service call and Besco took care of the rest. Excellent service--excellent repair. The technicians were prompt and respectful; they were knowledgeable and helpful; and they were efficient and thorough in their work. Top marks all around.

+ 0 moreWhile they did provide an estimate on duct cleaning (that turned out to be rather higher than several other companies), the technician appeared more interested in having me commit to an annual service contract for heating/AC maintenance. As far as venting the stove hood is concerned, they did provide a reasonable estimate, but did not inspect sufficiently to discover (as I subsequently did) that the duct actually was already present (!), albeit partially concealed.
Description of Work: I asked them to come give an estimate regarding AC/heating duct cleaning, and to give an estimate on creating an outflow duct for a stove hood.

+ -1 moreIn the midst of this heat wave, when I'm sure lots of air conditioners were on the blink, Jason was so very helpful and fixed our system almost immediately. Our whole house was hot, but our bedroom was 92 degrees - we were desperate! We called Besco on Thursday night, Jason called us back and suggested a possible solution we could do ourselves. When that didn't work, he came over on Friday morning, found a broken part, replaced it, and cleaned and repaired my unit. He was so nice and polite, but most importantly, he was helpful (and of course, he resolved my problem), My house is cool again!

+ -1 moreWe were extremely pleased with the overall experience. The installation team was always prompt, knowledgeable, courteous and clean. While Joe was always available for consultation, the actual execution of our plan was carried out by Chris and several other team members. We were pleased to find that Chris also shared Joe's attention to detail. We could very easily convey our wishes to him and have complete confidence that in the twists and turns of doing work on an older home, he would make the same choices we would make. This was no easy task as our home presented several unique challenges, including steel I-beams in unexpected places throughout the house. The Unico system is well known for the ability to snake its small tubing through closets and other less visible locations. While physics dictated that we ultimately had to have exposed runs in two locations that will require some new framing, the overall disruption to the aesthetics in our home was minimal. Cutting through plaster and lath is a messy task, but the team took significant pains to protect items from the mess and always did a very conscientious job of clean-up. We met several other members of the team over the course of the project and each one was as thoughtful and courteous as Joe and Chris. The ultimate test of course is the performance of the system once installed, and here again we have been quite pleased. The system was easily able to keep pace with hot-humid days into the mid '90s and the zones worked perfectly providing significant flexibility in directing the cooling if, for example, we were to have a party requiring extra cooling on the first floor. Humidity removal has been excellent, and we are even finding that the finished basement is cool and dry and no longer requires two dehumidifiers running around the clock to keep it comfortable.
Description of Work: Our home from the 1920s never had central air conditioning, so we decided this summer to make an investment in improving our comfort and install a central system. We collected quotes from five different well-regarded providers for a Unico or Spacepak ducting system and various different external air conditioning units. The actual work involved installing all of the main duct work for two systems with dampers and zone capcbility in the attic with all of the branch ducts down to first and second floor, an air handler/blower in the attic, a cooling unit outside with associated drain, electric and cooling lines running up to the attic. Besco's quotes were competitive with the other providers and significantly more detailed, which we greatly appreciated. Designing the system required ingenuity to achieve the goal of adequate cooling while minimizing the need to disturb plaster walls and detail in the home reflective of that era. Joe showed a personal attention to detail and a willingness to go much deeper than any other providers to talk about vent placement and to accommodate our requirements that it be a two zone system for first and second floors supplied completely from the attic. We also wished to preserve as much storage space as possible in the center of the attic. Joe worked directly with Unico on our behalf to get the complexity of the zoned system configured just right. We consider ourselves fairly demanding consumers and had a significnat number of detailed questions for Joe over four or five e-mails before finalizing our commitment. Joe responded knowledgeably and thoroughly to each of our questions.

+ -1 moreWoke up and had minimal a/c coming out of the vents and a burning smell so called Besco first thing as I knew with a hot humid day it was only going to get worse. Jim ("Cheech") was great over the phone, trying to troubleshoot basic issues to avoid having me incur the Sunday service fee, but nothing worked. He showed up about 90 minutes later, and while later than he indicated, he was nice enough to call en route to let me know he had to make an additional stop.Jim quickly identified that the blower motor was bad and had a replacement on his truck, which was great. Often times workmen have to come back on weekdays so it was unexpected (in a good way) to be able to get the problem resolved right away. While things like this always cost more than you want, Jim did a great job, cleaned up after himself and even took the time to check the rest of the system just to make sure things were all in order. I would definitely use Besco again without reservation and would request Jim every time. He was professional, efficient and did a great job.repl

+ -1 moreI called another HVAC company to come do the "spring check up" on our central air before the summer heat. I was told that the unit was 14 years old, and on its last legs. Anyway, sure enough, within a couple of weeks, the unit stopped cooling. I started calling people to give me estimates on a replacement. Becso came out right away, and gave me the lowest quote among the four I obtained. The problem is: turns out the unit wasn't 14 years old, it was only ten, with a good five years left of useable life. Besco either didn't recognize that or, if they did, didn't bother to tell me. Moreover, they quoted me a price on a very cheap unit, with a very short warranty (only one year, vs. ten that was offered by most of the competitors). When I explained to them that i wasn't going to use them because the unit they offered to sell me seemed to be pretty lousy, compared to the competitors' units, they said "ok." They did not attempt to convince me that I was wrong, that the unit they quoted was, in fact, a good unit. That concerned me even more, i.e., that they did not even try to make a case for the their recommendation. My bottom line view: they were nice, and punctual, but they sell on price, not on longevity.

+ -1 moreAfter a frustratingly bad experience with another provider, I got Besco's contact info from my a/c system manufacturer. I'm glad I did. After calling to schedule a non-emergency appointment, Cheech showed up with a new guy he was training and quickly diagnosed the problem. He was then able to go get the parts and install them the same day. After he was done, it was like night and day. Before the repair, I was actually embarrassed to run the A/C because it was inhumanly loud, but now it sounds normal and completely tolerable. The entire time he explained what he was doing, showed me what he was basing his decisions on, and described the issue and answered my questions exactly the way I would expect a professional to. I plan to use them for my seasonal maintenance going forward and, when necessary, repairs or replacement projects.

The replacement of the water element in the humidifier was very easy to do and the technician showed me how to do it myself for future events.

The flexibility was much appreciated. They arrived on time at the site and we looked at the space and the electrical service. They explained two different options for heating and cooling the space and gave me different price points. They were very clear to me that there was a lot of work that would need to be done.

He was very personable and professional, explaining the work he was doing in detail and answering all of my questions. We also needed a filter change, which Cheech brought back and installed that same day. Cheech is a great representation of Besco Air going the extra mile for customers.

Description of Work: As a retired CEO of a manufacturing plant, former school principal and school professor, I have been well acquainted with the need for superb quality control in your processes towards a happy customer. Accordingly, when our 35 year old HVAC units (Lenox) came close to giving up the ghost, we endeavored to find the best bang for our buck, esp. for us retired folks, but a company most honest and professional as they come. So, we did our homework, finally gathering together three quotes to compare "apples to apples." I must say that each company made a gallant effort in their pitch, but Joe from BESCO came forth as the most trustworthy, and knowledgeable, indeed. We had chosen the Trane 5 ton air cond. unit for the outside, and a Rheem furnace in our basement, all 95 per centers, thus requiring venting to the outside through newly constructed piping. BESCO came in at the highest price, alas, but we were able to work with Joe, and he with us. Well, it didn't feel good if we were going to pay the highest price, but on the other hand, the gut feeling we had about Joe and the people he represented, went to balance out the scale towards our choosing BESCO. In carrying out the bidding process, one doesn't always necessarily contract for the lowest price....in my mind's inner ear was "you get what you pay for." Ah, so true..... On the appointed day, the chosen team (I had asked for the most experienced) was here at 7 a.m., worked twelve hours to the minute, rendered me instructions on using the thermostat, and evaporated as Santa in his sleigh. The basement with my newly installed "toy" in the laundry room appeared immaculate, not a trace of our visitors to be beheld otherwise. What a dream, both the units and the installers. The unit outdoors was not to be operated until BESCO would return to tend to final tasks of gassing, pressurizing, etc. With the first 70 degree day, they indeed phoned, appeared, and, voila!! Yes, what a dream. Oh, be my guest......BESCO Air. It pays to get the best!

We had a service contract with Besco Air, and the service person they sent out informed us that our furnace was not repairable. He explained what was wrong and put us into contact with Besco's sale representative, Joe Pedota. Joe came to our home that day and went over our options. He gave us a lot of information about our choices, and helped us come to a decision without making us feel pressured. Our new furnace was installed the following Monday, along with our air conditioning unit, and we could not be happier with the work Besco did. They arrived right on time, finished the installation of our units in one day, meticulously cleaned up after they were finished, and patiently explained how to properly maintain our furnace and work the thermostat. We highly recommend Besco Air... we were very satisfied with them while they were helping us maintain our old furnace and A/C, and we are even happier with the service they provided when it came time to replace these units.

They made special efforts to figure out what the problem was and resolved it and I didn't have to replace the water heater. What stands out about them is the professionalism and ability to look for alternative solutions.
