Very good experience. First, I had used them prior when our basement flooded in July 2011 and we needed to replace our furnace, which was destroyed by the flood. Then, we were extremely happy with them and that continues with this review. First, the service man came out that same morning I called. He went through different diagnostics and determined that the A/C's condenser overheated and was probably shot. He said there is a slight chance it could work if the condenser could cool over time, and then we would need to add freon. The issue here explained to us then is that there obviously is some sort of freon leak, and then freon needed for our very old A/C unit is expensive. Plus, the A/C unit is showing rust and other issues. His recommendation is to replace the unit. We knew this was probably an expense we'd need to incur over the next year or 2 (at the most), so we will put our money into a new unit rather than hundreds of dollars into an old unit. The fee can be applied to a new unit if we go with Besco which is good. Joe from Besco, the saleman, was actually able to get out there 15 minutes later and showed me the options. Though we have not gotten the new one installed yet, we will be going with Besco for the install due to their professionalism, reliability, and expertise. They will not sell you what you don't need, and want to ensure you are satisfied with their work...so customer service is important to them. I would recommend their service for not only diagnostic, but also install of new A/C and Furnace units.
Description of Work: Determine if my A/C unit is salvageable or not, and then get an estimate for new system if needed.

I called him and he spent a good amount of time on the phone with me so that I could try and fix it myself without having to charge for a full service call at night. We eventually set up an appointment for the next day, he was on time and even put shoe covers to keep out the mess. I was very pleased and I would definitely use them again.

I hired Besco air to reinstall a brand new furnace that was improperly installed by Best Heating & Cooling. To settle a dispute, Besco acted as a 3rd Party to assess the installation and provide an estimate for repairs. (See my comments on Best Heating & Cooling, Lombard IL). Besco found multiple issues with the installation, and my confidence that Best Heating would follow through diminished with every bullet point of problems. We went with Besco. Here is the letter I wrote Jim Cox at Besco: Feb 17, 2012 Dear Mr. Cox: It is a sincere pleasure to write this letter of thanks for the exemplary workmanship and professionalism provided by BESCO AIR. In particular, I would like to spotlight Ed Pfeifer, who went above and beyond expectations, yet appeared as if it was standard operating procedures. Ed turned a horrible installation done by Best Heating & Cooling into a positive experience. I felt confident working with BESCO through Ed?s ability to empathize and educate. Though Ed wasn?t all talk, he delivered by reinstalling our furnace correctly and ending a nightmare that began Dec 2, 2011. I would also like to acknowledge Ceaser and Robert, who arrived on time, worked diligently, and had the common courtesy to discuss questionable points with my wife and the home office. Description of Work: Furnace: Besco Air found the Goodman furnace was not operating efficiently due to faulty installation, improper duct work fittings and connections, and overall poor workmanship from the company (Best Heating & Cooling of Lombard, IL) that recently installed the furnace. In order to facilitate the efficiency of the furnace, Besco Air needed to provide the following labor and materials: Remove furnace and reinstall correctly to be consistent with the supply and return plenums 1-inch from the wall and not 4-inches from the wall. Includes recovering refrigerant and disconnecting line-set from coil and rerouting to back wall and also disconnecting gas line and running low over to unit. Includes necessary sheet metal fittings and pipe to reconnect existing ductwork to unit at new correctly installed location [see line item "a" above]. Includes checking coil to make sure there are no restrictions in the air flow. Includes evaluating humidifier and making sure it is running properly when Besco Air is finished. Includes evaluating furnace and make sure furnace is working properly. Includes evacuating system to make sure there are no impurities in system. h. Includes returning in spring to start up unit and check pressures to make sure unit is working properly. (Need 65 degree temperature to properly check units.) Labor Besco Air will provide necessary labor to accomplish above listed work. All work to be completed during normal working hours

Installation went fine. They were respectful of the house and our time. In the end, we still need ac unit in our bedroom but we knew that might be the case when we decided to go with a simpler solution.
Description of Work: Replaced gas furnace and installed new (never had it before) central air system in our 130 year old bungalow. They spent a lot of time trying to understand our needs and come up with an ac solution that fit our budget and old house. Now we use them for maintenance twice a year.

Besco came to determine why our furnace was starting to 'Short Cycle'. The furnace was extremely dirty which Jim cleaned, and needed a new ignitor as the the original was extremely tarnished and aged. Jim was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Educated me on why I was having challenges with a short cycle and provided great advice on maintaining my current system for this season, with future options for replacement as our unit is 15 years old and will need to be replaced at some point in the not too distant future. Great communication on when he would arrive at my home, Jim performed the job quickly and professionally. Would use their service again.
Description of Work: Diagnosed the cause of the heat/furnace short cycling. Cleaned interior of the furnace, replaced ignitor, changed the air filter.

The floor heater stopped working the day after maintenance was performed. Was told that, to make it work, it required an additional $535 of work, but they offered no plausible explanation why it stopped working the same day they performed the service.

Unfortunately I feel it was bad timing for this to happen but we feel it would have happened no matter if we where there or not. Tom who was the serviceman at your house is very knowlegable and one of the most honest guys I know. I stress honesty in this company and this is one of the reasons Tom came to work for me. I had a talk with Tom about your situation and he told me that over half of that repair cost was parts we discussed at the time of the maintenace call and was agreed upon to order. In my records it shows that we came five days after maintenace to repair the hot water heater and not the next day. Teresa (dispatch) took my initial call around 10am & Jim (technician) was onsite at about 2pm same day--he called when he was about 20mins away. Jim effeciently diagnosed the problem, replaced the failed part, inspected a second furnace and was off to his next project. Jim is a friendly, and, more importantly, knowledgeable technician & I believe he has the customer's best interest in mind. Price seemed very fair. Specifically asked if I had additional questions before leaving. We used a different service for the last 7+ years. Tried Besco based on Angies' references. Responsive service. No regrets. Will use these guys next time around. Thanks Jim.

Besco arrived on time as promised to service an inspect all of my units. Everything was in good working order thereafter. Our first service requirement came in early December when one of my heaters went out. The tenant called at approximately 4pm that her heat was out and it was below freezing that evening. I called Besco and they were able to get someone to her within the hour. The repair turned out to be minor but Besco's responsivness was much appreciated as my tenant would have otherwise had a very chilly evening. So far, the service agreement has been a worthy investment and I appreciated the priority service response.
Description of Work: I signed up with Besco for a service agreement on multiple heating and air conditioning units in a multi-unit investment property of mine. They serviced all of my units (clean, inspect, etc) and then issued me a one year service agreement which includes discounts on labor and parts as well as priority service.

UPDATE (12/14/2011) Besco's owner, Jim, called me to apologize for all the miscommunication that led to the technician's lateness and for my being charged more than the price quoted me. He went so far as to reimburse me the difference between what I paid and the original quote I was given in March of 2010. This shows a lot of integrity and I am happy we got to speak. If need be, I will use Besco again. I have re-adjusted the grades I have given Besco for this transaction now that my issue with them is completely resolved. ---- March, 2010: Burner on boiler was not regularly firing up. Checked Angie's list and found Besco in the neighborhood with excellent ratings. They sent a tech over the same day who diagnosed the problem, did a little rewiring and got me going again for $80 (the minimum to walk through the door at that time). He said I eventually needed to have an aquastat relay and damper replaced for $345 at my convenience. The relay/burner was working when he left, and I was leaving town on business, so I paid the $80 for the visit and said I would have the replacement parts installed this Fall (2011). Well, as the weather started cooling down this year, the boiler kicked in and everything worked fine for a while until Wednesday before the Thanksgiving weekend, when the burner started acting up again. So, I called Besco back and scheduled to have the needed parts replaced. Andy called me back stating his regular parts supplier is not answering the phone, probably because of the holiday and the price his secondary supplier is asking for seems high. He'll call me back on Monday with a final price. Andy called me on Monday and says the price will be $400 for the relay and the damper and labor. OK. My bad, I snoozed, I lost. Waited too long to lock in a deal from March and the prices went up. Whatever. So we schedule for the next Friday. Andy gives me a window between Noon and 3:00 p.m. Waiting, waiting, waiting ... Andy called me at 3:40 saying the tech is late and will be at my place in 20 minutes to 1/2 hr. The tech does not show up until 5:00. He is personable, efficient and replaces the aquastat relay in only about a 1/2 hour. No need to replace the damper. Then he hands me the bill. $425.00, not the $400 I was expecting. The tech replaced only the aquastat relay and not the damper.

I wanted to replace my old furnace and central air conditioner. After doing research I decided to install Trane. I was looking for authorized Trane dealer in my area. Besco Air happened to be one of them. I read about Besco Air in Angie?s list. Based on the positive comments written by various members in Angies?s List I decided to call Besco Air. Mr. Joe Pedota came to visit my home and see what kind of furnace and AC unit would be good for my house. I had lot of questions. Mr. Pedota was very polite and answered all of them to my satisfaction. I was very impressed by his sincerity. Although his price was not very different from other companies I decided to go with Besco Air because Mr. Pedota seemed to me a very honest and caring person. He came during and after the installation. I am very happy with his service. The technicians who came to install the furnace and AC did a good job. They came on time and finished the job in one day. My experience with Besco Air has been positive. I will recommend them to other people

Besco submitted a competitive bid on the replacement of an existing furnace and water heater with high efficiency versions. They were very responsive during the bid process, got the work done quickly and efficiently, and were very competitive compared to the other companies I got bid from (4 in total, all with A ratings on Angie's List). The overall work was very good - there was one small problem that took a few days to turn up. It was minor, but Besco came out very early the next business day and fixed it in around 30 minutes. Very responsive, and very professional.
Description of Work: Removal of an old water heater and furnace Installation of new high efficiency water heater and furnace. Cleaning out of a blocked return caused by some floor installer hiding their debris in our duct work rather than hauling it to the trash!

Joe showed up on time. He provided a detailed estimate and explained the different furnaces. (It was too complicated to consider a high efficiency model). He followed up, and after checking a couple other contractors, we hired Besco. The installers were on time and did a great job. They checked with me as needed and explained the new thermostat. Joe also stopped back to make sure everything working properly and to review the operation of the thermostat.

First a repair man came to access the problem, was punctual and polite, and determined what the problem was. Our radiator needed a new valve. I paid $166.00 The repair man came back 3 days later with a new valve but was unable to attach it to the radiator because a piece on the radiator could not be loosened. They took the radiator back to the repair shop to fix the problem. This is where the problems begin. Two weeks pass with no word from the company about the progress on fixing the radiator. I have to call them to find out what is going on. A time is scheduled to bring back the radiator and install it. When the repair man returns, a new guy, he comes in a large truck that won't fit in the back of our building and has no where to park. He was also told that a needed part would be here but it wasn't. Now I am waiting for another call to reschedule the installation of the radiator. Through all of this, the repair men have been very polite and the last guy was apologetic about what had happened. I just wish that the company was a little better at contacting customers.

Hi Member, I'm sorry for the delay of getting that radiator back to you. Dealing with old radiators is no fun and a delicate process. We only charged you for a hour time and I know for a fact it took longer that that to get the piece out of the old radiator because I went in the back to help. As far as not getting back to you in a timely manner we will take full responsabilty for that, we got busy and the radiator sat in the back. I first called Besco when another competitor said that I needed to replace a fully working furnace that would shut down to frequently. Jim responded and changed the air flow to keep the furnace from shutting off. He explained that my furnace was really in good shape. He solved the problem that the other company could not, despite at least 8 service calls. Lesson learned, do not keep going back to the same company if the problem is not solved in the first few tries. I had Besco replace my rooftop condensor this summer. We were able to come up with a plan to keep the cost down and not pull out my entire furnace to reach the air coils. I appreciated their willingness to work with me to create a less costly solution. The work was done promptly, efficiently and has been problem free.I received a thank you note from the owner afterwards!

I solicited mutliple quotes, and Besco was among the competitive prices. I ultimately selected them because they provide Trane equipment. They were very responsive throughout. They arrived on time and worked quickly to remove our old unit and install the new one. The technician walked me through everything once installation was complete, and they took time to point out a few things about our duct work and humidifier. They also provided a new wall thermostat free of charge.

we purchased a BIG DEAL service call from this company which was half off their regular priced service call cost. The technician came out on time and looked at our Chimney Vent situation and gave us the information we needed to proceed. There was a slight hang up in payment as we had previously paid the BIG DEAL via Angie's list but the technician thought we needed to pay again. We had to call his company and talk to 2 people before the boss came on and verified that I did not have to pay as I already had. Seems like the information from wasn't distributed from the top down regarding the BIG DEAL. Other wise it was a great easy service call.

We first had them come out to get our furnace back up and running after a flood this summer after another service company told us that it had to be replaced. Besco told us it was worth repairing since the furnace was just two years old. They got the part and had the furnace back up and running in just two days. Might I say it was very fast since many of my neighbors also had heating and air service call too.
Description of Work: The furnace was not starting after a flood. The fan worked but the circuit board was ruined.

Besco's representative showed up on time and got right to work. He did a good job of explaining what he was doing and he gave me a brief tutorial of the HVAC System that we had (we have just bought a 2400 Sq. ft. duplex in Lakeview). He pointed out a few areas where we should keep an eye out for issues in the future (but I didn't feel that he was trying to "upsell," was just providing an FYI). I would say that the job was of the easy to moderate variety and they met all expectations. I will use them again in the future.

I used them in May of this year. Everything was perfect. They were great. They installed the first half of it last December. They did the furnace and the air conditioning installation last December. They came in May, charged the air conditioning unit and got that up and running. They came in and took care of the business. They cleaned up after themselves. I was happy with the work that they did. They were good. I have recommended them to other people. They were great to work with and I was very pleased.
