We didn't choose Bain because: The price was the most expensive of our 3 quotes They didn't come to the house to see the area of removal They were not as responsive in answering questions as I would have liked

Owner visited property to provide proposal, she arrived on time was very professional and detail in her explanation. Was very helpful with required paper work I requested. Just a pleasure to deal with. I did not ultimately select her company due to large pricing differences. But this does not negate the face that she was very knowlegable, informative, helpful and professional.
Description of Work: I had the owner from Bain out the my residence for a proposal for asbestos removal. my risers were wrapped in asbestos and the boot, I requested proposal for removal.

My neighbor wanted to use Bain to test our air quality (she had a friend that used her for Mold testing) . I told my neighbor that I looked Bain up on Angie's list, she had two F's and I didn't want to use her! My neighbor hired Bain, & told me to come down the next day to get my apartment tested, too. So I called Bain & asked what she would charge to test the air in my apartment, & what would she charge for a SHS sample (Second Hand Smoke) & she said $250 for my home, $75 for SHS, the $75 included as many areas for SHS as I wanted. She gave me the same prices for the hallway. Again $250 for an air sample of the hallway & $75 for SHS in hallway. So I said ok. I went downtown to meet at my neighbors, Bain arrived on time, a very beautiful woman, & said she didn't have the time to test my unit, too, she only had 2 hours. I was really angry, because I drove one hour, boarded my dog, under the assumption she would be testing my unit, too. My neighbor was concerned about sewer gas, sulfuric acid, & other unknown toxins, many of us in the building were getting sick from the air. For me, it was so bad, that I stopped living in my unit. Bain listened & took notes what my neighbor needed. Then Bain agreed to come down & look at my unit. She said she could do a SHS fiber test in one area for $50 that day. She explained that each area would be $50. So much for the $75 for as many areas as needed testing. She then said she could test my hallway air that day, too for $250 for general toxins,. So I paid her $300 & she never gave me a receipt. She went back up to my neighbors, when finished would set up in my hallway. I left to run an errand, was gone 15 minutes. realized I would be better off to have the air tested inside my unit as opposed to the hallway. I called Bain back, & she said I was too late, she had already set up in the hallway, & the building engineer told her to stop & leave. I explained I could be there in 5 minutes, so as to take my air sample inside my apartment. She said she was on her way out. I was gone less than 15 minutes from when she left my unit. Bain explained she would give me a rain check & come back another time to take my air sample, as I had paid for one, & she wouldn't charge me her fee to come out. She said she needed 24 hr notice. I said are you sure, because sometimes the odor can be very strong one day, but gone the next. Yes, she said, she must have 24 hr notice. The issue with my building were fumes that smell like garbage, & they are not always present. The day Bain was there the odor was extremely STRONG. It was the perfect storm so to speak. So I was planning to go downtown the following week & gave Bain the 24 hr notice. Bain was pleasant (I really liked her, thought she was nice), & when she arrived on time again, she noted there was no odor and it would be a waste to take the sample that day. This time she told me she was close by, & that she could come on the same day, if I called her and noted the garbage odor. Since I was no longer living inside my home, the air was making me sick, I was basing the odor detection on my neighbor 4 floors above. So if my neighbor said it was bad on her floor, I would drive downtown, and notify Bain I was coming. Which I did, Bain didn't call me back. Luckily I got there and there was no smell. I say lucky because I never heard back from Bain. Still I called Bain again and left her a message not to come as I didn't smell anything. This happened one more time, neighbor said smell, I drive down and call Bain and leave voicemail, Bain doesn't call back, I get there, no odor. So I called Bain back and said lets forget the test, as I don't know when it is present, & I can't keep driving down there. She agreed, and said she would mail me back a check for $250. Meanwhile my neighbor is getting very upset that she paid $830 and no word from Bain. Very upset. It took over one month to get my fiber test for SHS back. The report had the wrong unit number on it. It also was not a specific test for Nicotine. In other words the fiber test she took for me, was useless to prove SHS seepage. Only a test for nicotine will prove that. I know that now. No refund check for the $250 hallway air sample. Never a receipt. Slow to return phone calls or emails regarding report needing correction. My neighbors report was all wrong according to my neighbor. She told me Bain would not return her emails or her phone calls, nor email her a receipt. All I could say was, I told you I didn't want to use her, because of Angieslist review. If there is anyone reading this, please save yourself a headache, use another company.
Description of Work: This review is a combined review. My neighbor hired Bain and paid her $830 to take 5 air samples inside her apartment and 1 air sample inside the condo building common hallway. Bain took 1 fiber sample for me inside my apartment for $50. I have second hand smoke infiltrating my home, and wanted/needed to prove it was present in my home. I also paid Bain $250 to take an air sample in my condo hallway., that Bain supposedly attempted and was stopped by the building. The building denies stopping Bain. I don't know who to believe . Please note that my neighbor feels so ripped off by Bain that she has filed a complaint with the BBB & wants her money back! Me, I asked for receipt, numerous times, never got one, my report was wrong, wrong unit number, and the test she took for me was not a test for SHS. I learned this afterward. The only true test for SHS is a nicotine test. Not everyone does this test. She did not return emails or phone calls. She said repeatedly she was mailing me a check. She never did. I called my credit card company and filed a dispute to recover my $250.

Price quoted was more than twice that of next highest bid (we received quotes from three firms). Was told job would take 4-5 days (firm we later hired was able to complete job in less than one business day; other firm we did not hire quoted 1 day work time). Provided an additional quote to reinsulate pipes that was more than the quote for the asbestos removal itself.
Description of Work: Received quote for removal / remediation of asbestos on pipes in residential dwelling.
