In addition to the more mundane aspects of painting a very large total surface area, James was able to efficiently work around the wooden railings, carpeting and doorways while neatly and completely covering the 3 story hallway, using 3 separate paint colors (1 for ceiling; 1 for wainscoting/lower paneling; 1 for upper/main walls). His high-altitude work, painting 15 feet up on a ladder set on the stairs was particularly impressive. James's ability to work quickly while still providing exceptional quality - and his easy ability to communicate with the home/condo owner, is really a welcome (and rare!) combination to have in a contractor.
Description of Work: 3-story interior stair hallway needed to be painted.

 + 0 moreExtremely well. James's attention to detail, coupled with his excellent people skills, resulted in a beautifully finished product in a remarkably short time period. Through his discussions and good relationships with other contractors, James had identified that the building next door was updating it's concrete sidewalk, which he recognized as a very rare opportunity for both buildings to update the fencing between them. He was able to negotiate their efforts for removal of the old fence, while quickly identifying an attractive, and building-code-compliant fence that the entire building agreed upon. His planning, preparation, and consistent efforts led to a fence that was up within a few days (including the time needed for fence post concrete footings to set) and is a true 'upgrade' to the building's property - both in security and in aesthetics.
Description of Work: Old property-line wire fence was removed and replaced with a stylish, high-quality fence.

 + -1 moreArchetype and James did excellent work start to finish. He found a creative solution to a problem I was having with a custom loft door. James was clear and transparent throughout the process. I met with James on several occasions and he was always on time and easy to get ahold of. The price was great especially given the level of work performed. James was able to work with my schedule and the project was finished ahead of schedule. I will use Archetype for all remodeling/rehab projects in the future!

 + 10 moreJames was attentive, detail oriented, punctual and hardworking. He estimated the project to take 8 weeks and it only went over by 2 weeks because we added a few changes during the process. He handled most aspects of the project, but found competent sub contractors (tile work, electrical, plumbing, drywall/paint) when he needed specific expertise. After the job was complete he made sure to address every punch list item or any issue that we noticed after living in our new space for a few weeks. We plan on using him again.
Description of Work: James acted as both the general contractor and did the majority of the actual work on a renovation of our second floor. This renovation included adding a master bathroom and closet, and reconfiguring half of the floor into 3 working bedrooms.

 + 0 moreOnce again, Archetype Homes delivered with perfection. We were absolutely delighted with the work. He was so much better than we ever anticipated. We finished on time, slightly below budget with all the details executed flawlessly. James communicated with me every step of the way. He explained how the work was going, sent pictures, kept a beautiful spreadsheet regarding the expenses. I couldn't imagine working with anyone else in Chicago.
Description of Work: Archetype Homes helped me rehab my condo in Chicago. I had moved to Washington and was unable to be there for most of the work. James and I spoke over the phone and emailed to create the plan which he executed. James oversaw the installation of a new heating and A/C system. He completely remodeled the kitchen, 2 bathrooms (with laundry included) and dining room. The entire condo was also painted. Floors were refinished. New windows were also installed. James created the designed, developed and managed the budget and communicated flawlessly. My family and I were able to come into town to see the final product. It was so much better than I ever imaged. We only wish that we could live there. We trusted James completely and he delivered with perfection. We highly recommend Archetype Homes to anyone. We were on time, on budget and 100% delighted with the results.
