We moved to a condo that had a particular heat system that we were unfamiliar with. The heat was not working. We found the name of someone, and they sent someone out. That first service provider was not familiar with this particular system, and did not feel comfortable diving into the system. But there was an "emergency heat' toggle switch that he recommended we switch, and heat came on. (BTW, the first guy charged us NOTHING for his hour + time, since he didn't feel he did much.) Since we were not sure if that was the total answer, we found out from someone in our building that Anchor Mechanical knew our building's systems, so we called them. To their credit they did come out within 2 days. However, we told them it was not an emergency and that we had toggled the switch, and that we just didn't know if that was the solution. A guy showed up, smiling, and almost laughing at the situation, saying to us first off, "well I didn't come too early, and went and had a cup of coffee, since I figured it was just the switch that needed to be turned on." He spent about 10 more minutes with us answering some general questions we had, but he didn't get a finger dirty, nor open a panel, nor do anything other than share a little general knowledge. We asked how much it would be, and he said it's up to billing. We expected it to be about $50, because of course the guy did have to park and spend a few minutes. The bill was $250 (!!!) because, we were told by their billing dept., "the guy is union, and that's what he gets." To be an ethical and true service provider, he could have called us, and asked us if the switch had been toggled, and if so, that's the solution, and we WOULD HAVE KEPT THEIR NUMBER FOR FUTURE SERVICE. Instead, it was a joke to him so he could make a quick buck on us. It was insulting. We're paying the bill, because WE'RE honorable people, but I would NEVER ask them back to do any work. If they refund us for this bill, I'll rewrite it to let the members of Angie's List know they did the right thing. UPDATE FEB. 7,2013: After writing the owner (and included our check as payment), we promptly received a response, and our check back in the mail. While they 'disagreed with most of our comments'. they did the right thing and returned our check. I would consider using them again, since they did the right thing.
Description of Work: Poor service and customer building behavior. We were a joke to them, apparently, just a quick buck.
