All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning

Make yourself comfy... this is gonna be along one. The furnace that was being replaced was installed in 1965, and still worked perfectly. But it couldn't be modified for central air. So my expectations for reliability and service life were pretty high. I researched all of the applicable options, then contacted three companies for estimates. My specifications were identical for each; a new furnace, between 80 - 95+ % efficiency with a matched 2-ton A/C unit, and new ductwork to tie a 400 sq. ft. addition to the main unit. I looked at American Standard, Lennox and Bryant equipment. One provider promised a free A/C unit with a new furnace, but his quote was as high as the other two without the 'free' A/C unit. I didn't appreciate the bait and switch, so they were out. The second provider was going to cut up walls and install giant return grills in floors and this and that and the other thing... but never really gave me a solid plan and was in and out within an hour. Not real high in the trust department. Then I met with Matthew from All Temp. He was here forever... couldn't get him to leave (I'm exaggerating). But he did give me a solid plan for the new ductwork, with minimal modifications, noting that it could change slightly once they got into it. He gave me two solid options for an 80% and a 97% efficiency unit ("...what you got in here is running at about 45% efficiency, so even at 80% it's going to be like going from a Chevy to a Ferarri..."). I called him back in a day or two and ended up going for the highest efficiency unit, and a few days later his crew showed up and did the installation. They were here for three days (big job), and came back for one minor adjustment in the new ductwork. I held off on this review until the 'heating season'. Never having central air, if I wrote this last August I would have claimed that All Temp all but walked on water. But now I've had both A/C and heat (and humidification), and balanced the ducts for even ventillation, etc. And I can say that All Temp has delivered 100%. Everything works exactly as Matthew promised, from delivery thru installation, and now use. Absolutely zero surprises. The install was efficient, and left spotless. The crew was polite, accommodating, and professional (and knew what they were doing). All I (or anyone) can ask for is honesty and fairness, which have unfortunately become difficult to find. Competition between the manufacturers has resulted in everything being essentially the same... equally featured and equally reliable. So the real differentiating point is the people. All Temp's people are honest, fair and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong.

I couldn't be more pleased - everything from my initial contact call to the final handing over of the instruction manuals after installation was easy, perfectly pleasant, thoroughly professional, and unbelievably quick. To a person, everyone we dealt with was friendly, helpful and truly made this the easiest home repair experience I've ever had.

We worked with a sales person, Jack Freedman, who suggested a couple of options for air conditioning our 100+ year old home. We have a hot water heating system with radiators, so it would not be an easy installation. Two systems were discussed Space Pak and Unoco, both systems require putting tubes in walls and vents in the ceilings. Jack brought over a technician, Tony who looked over the house and assured us that the job could be done with minimal cosmetic changes that it would take about 7-10 days work. And he was absolutely correct on the time estimate and his suggested ways of minimizing reconstruction. The equipment was installed in the attic and tubes were sent through second floor closets to the first floor and through the ceilings of the first floor to vent the appropriate spaces. I would not normally try to describe the system installation so carefully except that of the 9 tubes going through the walls, no 100+ year old plaster was damaged. Tony and Charlie did an excellent job and Jack followed up with us on a regular basis during the install! The building inspector commented that it was a nice job.

Went okay. I prepaid on line for $89. Tech didn't know that and gave me an invoice for $76. So if you buy this service online you will pay more for it than just calling the company and paying the tech.

Matthew came out to give us an estimate. This man knows his furnaces. Provided us with all the info we needed. After we agreed to go ahead, All-Temp continued doing a fantastic job. Installers Don, Eric, Jose and Steve did fantastic work. They were punctual, courteous, professional, and friendly. They finished before we thought they would. Exceeded our expectations. We would totally recommend them.

The service person inspected and cleaned the AC unit. Insured that the AC unit was operating properly and that the AC unit had the proper amount of coolant. The service person was professional and kept the home owner informed on all aspects of the process.

Very badly. The company advertises a "best price" policy. The salesman started with a very high price; three times the online cost of the hardware. He discounted this for the Angies List discount and cash discount but the result was still unreasonable. I asked about the"best price" policy and was told that they had a big staff and they had to pay someone to remove the old boiler. I asked for a detailed price proposal and the salesman neglected to account for my 50% prepayment. I cancelled the project and 2 days later a removal crew arrived to take out the old boiler. The salesman forgot to cancel the removal. Overall this was worse than dealing with a used car salesman.

They did great. They were very professional and very quick.

The communication in the beginning was a bit rough, however I wonder if I taken the lead more if I would have gotten all the information I wanted from them. The actual purchase was done by the current home owner. The team take came to take out existing unit and replace with new unit did a great job. I would use them again. I trust them.

There's two components to this review; one is for the office staff who took my calls and the other is for the service technician that serviced my furnace. The 'D' for professionalism is for the receptionist who took my call. All the other grades are for the service tech who came out and serviced my furnace. Let me start by saying the service tech Rich was very courteous, professional and prompt. If he were the sole face of All temp, this company would receive an exceptional rating from me. Rich called me several times to let me know where he was and approximately what time he would be arriving. He replaced the filter, cleaned my furnace and even did a carbon monoxide check. He was professional throughout the visit and a great technician. I am *very* please with his work! Unfortunately, the 2nd component of this review is for the office person and her behavior , which was not so professional and courteous. After making my appointment I called a week prior to verify my appointment and have them service my father's furnace (new business). I left a detailed note with the answering service and was promised a call back. I never received the call back. I called again the morning of my appointment to verify the tech would be here. I also inquired why I didn't receive a call back before and yes I was annoyed since I am a long standing customer, an Angieslist member and I was sending them new business. The phone receptionist insisted I received a call 5 minutes later and that 'Danielle' left me a message - basically calling me a liar. I check my voicemail throughout the week and in this case my phone history. I did NOT receive a call back so clearly Danielle did not call me. This would not be that big of a deal if she had simply accepted that a mistake had been made and apologized, however, she got a bit testy and I get to leave a less than stellar review here. I will not be using them for my father, there's plenty of competition on the list. Will I use them again next year? Not so sure I will. the only defense I have as a customer is to select another provider and thankfully there's competition for my business. All temp does have a great history here on AL and that's probably because of their service techs. However, receptionist need to also understand that no matter how busy they get it's their job and they represent their company to the public as well.

The office called back when I left a message for service work. A date was set and the service man, Jason, called when he was 30-45 minutes away from our residence. He wore cloth booties over his shoes when he entered the house. He gave us information about our boiler as to how to make it better and to fix problems. Jason listened and answered all our questions respectfully. We used the special listed on Angie's List for this service provider.

How did it go? Lousy. Our building required larger pipes that were installed back in '71 when the building was built. Because of the construction of the building and the fact that the previous pipes were encased in concrete, we could either tear down the drywall in the hall and second bedroom and drill through steel 2x4s at a prohibitive cost, or the All-Temp estimator said we could run the pipes at the seam of the ceiling and the wall and hide them with crown molding. We opted for the latter. When they started, they realized they couldn't get their hands into the bulkhead where the ductwork was in order to move the pipes from the electrical closet to the bedroom. They asked if they could put holes in the drywall, assuring us that All-Temp would pay to have the holes repaired and we'd never know they had been there. My husband called the office and was told that absolutely, All-Temp would pay to have the damage repaired--all we had to do was call the next day and schedule their drywall person to come out and do the work. We gave the go-ahead. First, the pipes and insulation are so large that no crown molding made is large enough to hide them. We're going to have to pay to have a bulkhead made for the bedroom. But the really bad part was when my husband called to schedule the drywall work the next day. Oh, so sorry. The receptionist made a mistake. They won't pay to have the drywall fixed. WHAT? If we had known that, we would have cancelled the installation of the air conditioner and found someone else who could do it without ruining our walls. So we now have three large (2 ft by 2 ft) square holes--one in the ceiling in the entryway to the living room and two in the wall in the second bedroom. On top of that, the estimator assured us that where the pipes went through the wall to the outside, the hole would be sealed. Well it is, on the outside. Not on the inside, so I guess you can say we have four ugly holes in our drywall and All-Temp takes no responsibility. And, the compressor is so far from the wall on our balcony that we've lost 15 feet of usable balcony, because we can't get around the compressor. It will cost us more to have their damage repaired than it would have to take down the walls in the first place. We are EXTREMELY dissatisfied customers. Do not do anything with these people without the work being written down and signed by the owner of this outfit. If the installers want to cut through your walls or do other damage, just tell them to leave and find someone else. Better yet, start with someone else.

Duing the hottest days this summer our A/C unit went out. The All Temp crew came out and performed a measurement. Based on the measurement I received a quote for a replacement. The next day, a different crew arrived with the units. Upon inspection, we discovered that the measurement team had made an error. They took full responsibility for the mistake and gave me a great deal on the correct size unit. I would highly recommend this company. Everyone was professional the entire time.

I called and was able to get an appointment the next day for an estimator to come out. Mike Clark was the sales person who came out to look at the units. I had a lot of questions and he took the time to answer the questions out thoroughly. I was interested in understanding why they supplied Bryant units and what Bryant had that Lennox did not as I hadn't heard about Bryant before. He showed me some Consumer Reports articles comparing the various manufactures and showed that Bryant was in the top bracket. He also did a thorough load calculation, measuring all the room sizes, windows and inputting it in a computer he had brought along. He wrote out a bid giving me a couple of options on equipment - basically the difference between a mid-range high efficiency furnace and a top of the line furnace. He called me a few days later to see if I had any questions and when I told him I was waiting for a couple of other bids just indicated I should get back to him if I had questions. Over the weekend, I compared the various bids and found I had difficulty comparing the bids because they all had different specifications. In addition I noticed that All-Temp's recommendation for furnace size on my lower level was significantly smaller than the other two providers. I wrote out a series of questions on Saturday expecting I would get a response on Monday and Tuesday from the providers. Mike responded that evening acknowledging receipt and gave me detailed answers and a revised bid the next day. He then followed up with me about 3 days later and I indicated I was waiting for a response from another provider and even though I liked his pricing I was concerned that the warranty they offered (10 year parts and labor) was not as good as another provider offering 15 years. He said they could provide the same length warranty for an additional cost which allowed me to compare apples-to-apples. Once I decided to go with All Temp, Mike scheduled installers to come out about 4 days later. He sent two crews so they could work on the upstairs and downstairs unit simultaneously. The installers laid out canvas to protect our carpeting and floors. Installation went smoothly and they showed us how to operate the units and left us the manuals. A week later I contacted Mike to see how to fill out the utility rebates he indicated we could receive by installing high efficiency units. He had already filled out rebate forms which the installers were supposed to have provided me and hadn't. He filled them out again and sent them to me. It was a distinct pleasure to work with Mike. He was very responsive before and after the sale without being pushy. I have never had a better experience and I will definitely recommend him to anyone looking to replace their HVAC units.

It was amazing as All Temps came to install my new furnace on SUNDAY! Really? Does it ever happen that a company goes so beyond the call of duty to work on Sunday? I had a visit by a repairman who could not repair the furnace. His manager was able to find a slightly dented door on the same model and offered to give it to me for $1500 less! They said the dented door would not effect how the system worked. But at the last minute the manager checked out my home before the installation. He said he wanted to make sure that my experience was perfect and therefore was not going to give me the unit with the dented door. He just did not want me to call him back unhappy for any reason. He still honored the price that was $1500 less!! Also I did not have to pay the service fee. Most importantly, as we are getting colder here in Chicago I am so happy with my new furnace that works great! I hope I don't need another furnace but I would totally recommend these guys.

As I initially stated, I purchased the furnace cleaning & inspection service on 10/29/14. It wasn't until AFTER the purchase that I found out All Temp is located in Chicago. I am about 30 miles away, much too far. I want to find someone closer, esp in cases of emergencies. I called All Temp this morning & spoke to Joe. Explained my desire & he cancelled the service ticket but advised me to request credit/refund on my charge directly to Angie's List. In the future, it would be helpful to customers to know the address/location of these vendors. Please process in a timely manner and confirm status. Thank you.

They were good.They were thorough in the inspection and I would use them again.

We needed to replace a very old A/C unit and we received a few quotes. All Temp wasn't the cheapest but their sales rep won us over. He was very professional and, more importantly, non-pushy. He also responded very quickly to emailed questions. They were able to schedule the work about a week after we signed the contract. The installer arrived on time in the morning and was very polite and professional. He readily answered my questions. He then went to work in the basement and backyard. No fuss, no muss. Near the end of the installation, after he had packed up all of his equipment, I noticed that the condensate pumps were not wired to shut off the furnace should the pumps fail, contrary to our original request. It was apparently not stated on his work order. He apologized for that and went back to his van to retrieve his tools so that he could redo the wiring, and he did it with a smile. That was appreciated. Before he left, he made sure I understood the use of the humidifiers and condensate pumps. He also cleaned up the basement nicely. That, too, was appreciated. We've had no problems with the A/C this past summer. It works much better than the unit it replaced. It also looks nice sitting in the backyard!

The technician did not arrive during the five hour window; apparently, he was held up dealing with another call, but no one called to inform me of the delay. When he finally arrived, late in the afternoon, he turned out to be very professional, helpful and informative. We will consider their services in the future.

The guys were very professional. they were very patient with me when I had questions.

Called All Temp on a Saturday requesting a free estimate for services that I was told that I needed from another company. I was surprised when John told me he could come out the next, which was a Sunday. John was such a blessing, his second opinion saved me over $2,500! Not only did he save me $$$, he told me what I needed and it could be done by a handyman. I just want to say thank you to John for being honest and not trying to rip me off!

very good and thorough, answered all my questions, even though it was a routine maintenance visit.

At the time of the service, it seemed like a mediocre service call. They were asked to perform seasonal maintenance on our boiler, nothing else. Reasonable price, grumpy service tech. It wasn't until later when we realized how bad it actually was. 1) They REMOVED the work history sticker from the boiler. Yes, they pulled it off, so now there is no way to see the history that was done. Since some work was done by previous owners, we now have no way of knowing what was done and when. There is absolutely no reason for this. Just terrible. 2) They put their sticker on top of equipment that THEY DID NOT SERVICE. Yes, they covered up the service history of our air conditioner and water heater. Again, keeping us from seeing the history, age, etc of our own equipment. These were items they didn't even service. 3) They didn't let us know that the boiler, the item we asked them to service, was CRACKED. Apparently it had been cracked for years, based on comments from a better company. Unfortunately that oversight led to a flooded basement for us. Terrible service, just awful. We would have paid twice as much for a competent service. Never again.

Knowledgeable and personable tech performed a typical clean and check. However, knowing that I had just moved into this home, he gave me thorough feedback of the age and condition of all of the major component parts. Quite informative.
