Description of Work: During the afternoon of January 20th this year, I noticed it seemed to be getting colder in my house. I went to my thermostat and turned up the setting, but a few minutes later, my radiators were still cold. I wnet down to the basement to look at my boiler, and there was no light from a flame nor any heat coming from a flame. The boiler had quit on me, so I consulted Angies List for a few recommendations. I took a few names of repairmen and got on the phone. Unfortunately, since this was a Sunday afternoon/evening, and the first pretty cold day of the season, alot of the repairmen I called were either too busy or simply not answering their phones. Eventually a man from All Temp returned my call and said he could be over within the hour. I was relieved I was able to get someone who would be able to restore the heat in my house before it got much colder...the temperature was now close to 60 degrees and getting colder. Their man arrived promptly as he said he would and went to work right away. He told me I needed a new thermo coupler and said he had one in his truck. He went out and returned quickly, carrying the device in his hand. Within minutes he had it installed and the heat was back on....wonderful I thought, we wont freeze tonight. I paid him the requested fee he charged and he left When I woke in the morning the house was cold again, and the boiler was out again, This time I called a handyman friend of mine to come and take a look. He re lit the pilot light for me and showed me how to do it, as well as giving the name of a man he knows who does this work. For the rest of this day, Monday, I must have re lit that pilot light myself 5-6 times. I called this new repairman and he came the following day, Tuesday. I told him what my experience had been and mentioned that a new thermo coupler had been recently installed. He took a quick look inside the boiler cabinet and said "no it wasnt". He removed that thermocoupler and showed it to me, it didnt really look new to me, then he tapped it on the ground and dirt/soot came out of it. He said this isnt new, but I will put in a new one, which he did and the boiler has been working fine ever since. A day or two passed and I decided to call back the people at All Temp and tell them what happened, and ask for a refund. The office manager took down all my information and said he would get back to me. He also added that if what i had told him was true, it wouldnt be a problem getting my money back. A couple days passed and I hadnt heard back from him, so I called again. He explained that the reason hadnt heard back fom him was that he wrote himself a note about this situation and put that note inside my file, but that he should have left that note on his desk so he could attend to it, but didnt, the note was put into my file instead (and evidently forgotten about). Another day passed and now I am running into more resistance from All Temp. Now they are telling my that they would only be willing to refund half of my money, because I hadnt called them back right away and ended up going to somebody else, without giving them the chance to make things right. I expained that I dont give businesses a second chance after they have abused me the first time, that if I have a lousy meal at a restaurant, I dont go back to the same restaurant hoping the second meal will be better. All Temp reasoned that they should be entitled to something for having made the initial service call, that maybe they could refund 75% of my money. I told them that I wanted a FULL refund and that if I didnt get it, I would report this incident to Angies List. I think the words "Angies List" sparked some attention to this matter, as within a week I received their check for the full amount ($190). For that they are to be commended, they did eventually do the right thing, but that was only after alot of negotiating and haggling with their manager. When a business does slipshod work and get a complaint about it, they should happily agree to make thing right, without having their arm twisted. Overall it was just too much hassle dealing with them. I got my money back but it took alot of cajoling to get it. Thank you for my full refund All Temp, but you wont be hearing from me again.
