 + 0 moreAwesome. The installer came right on time. The job was estimated to take 2 hours but took longer. The only problem was that after he left we couldn't get water out of 3 of the 4 sink faucets. The installer had told us that AT SOME POINT we would need to remove the covers and clean the mesh & aerators but he didn't say it had to be done that very day. We tried getting the covers off ourselves but couldn't budge them so we thought the installer might have done something to a valve. We then opened and shut every water valve in the house and that did nothing so we got nervous because we didn't know what the problem was. Finally I realized this was beyond my expertise and I called their emergency number and said to send somebody. The technician came all the way from Deerfield that very night (20+ miles) and showed us the problem, used a pliers & then we got water right away. If we had understood that we needed to take the mesh covers off the faucets immediately and let the water run we would have used pliers ourselves and would not have had to call service but as it was, they stepped up to the plate and helped out this dumb bunny in time of need.
Description of Work: Removed old leaking water heater and installed new one. Then when we had a problem getting water out of 3 faucets they sent technician to diagnose & fix the problem the same day.

 + -1 moreI went into the hospital and when I came out my furnace was off. My pipes in my home froze and burst and there was water all over the place. The guy first came out and inspected the problem. Then said he was going to talk to his boss. They never called me back I had to call them and they said the water was leaking already. I said there was no water leaks or he would not have been able to put the furnace in. The man that installed the furnace used my wash room. There were no leaks, they just don't want to repair the damage. I have been calling them for two months and they just keep hanging up on me. I don't think this company is reliable. If I have to get a lawyer they are going to pay for the lawyer, the court time, and cost of repair. Update 6/2/09: Everything the company says is propaganda. The windows were boarded up before they installed the furnace. I called them to repair the furnace and they recommended to replace the furnace due to the warranty being out. The place was well insulated and people were staying there when the pipes burst. The only holes in the walls were in the bathroom for access to the cut off valves. I don't like the way they do business. I have 6 more furnaces to replace in my building and will not use this company.

Description of Work: Check furnace that was not working. Did routine checks on other furnace, two attached humidifiers and two A/C units. Fixed furnace, cleaned and checked all units.

 + -1 moreWe called All Temp at 7 am the answerin service said they open at 8, they called at 8:15 and they were here by 8:45, the technician, Tony, said it was the hot surface ignitor and had the part in his car. He was done by 9:15 which is good b/c I had the day off to go to the Chicago History Museum with my daughter and thought this was going to take all day. Now the heater is working and I can still enjoy my day off as planned :)

 + -1 moreWe ordered a new heating and air conditioning system to be installed by ALL TEMP last summer (2008) and it was installed in time to keep us cool during the hot summer days. The work was done efficiently and ALL TEMPS' price of the system was competitive. It is a good quality system and we would probably hire this company again. I have been holding off on writing this report because at the time we ordered the system we mentioned that the house was not heated evenly. Some rooms were comfortable while others hardly got any heat. Mike from ALL TEMP told us that this could be adjusted easily by him or one of his people, and asked us to call back during the heating season. This I did in January and then a couple of times more, but the adjustment was not done until March. It made a big difference as the rooms now all seem to warm up much more evenly, as far as we could tell on the colder days in March. I just wish it could have been done earlier in the winter.

 + -1 moreI called All Temp on a Friday around noon b/c my heat was not working properly. I had changed the thermocoupler, but that hadn't fixed it. They had someone out that afternoon to take a look and he told us that the furnace needed replacement. He explained the details of why and we concurred seeing as the unit was over 20 yrs old. Since we knew of a previously repaired leak with our a/c unit, we asked for pricing for installing both. He quoted $2000 for the furnace and an addt'l $2200 (reduced rate for doing both at once) for the a/c unit. I asked him about a special I saw on their website 'buy a/c get furnace free' He wasn't aware of the special, but immediately called to find out the details. They did have our unit available, so we were able to get the a/c for $2600 (reg. price) and the furnace for only $700 install. We decided to add on a whole-house humidifier for $350. They were unable to install the unit that day, but came out first thing Saturday morning. When they arrived they informed us that they didn't have the a/c unit in stock and would have to reschedule that installation for later in the week. He had also forgotten a piece for the humidifier, so delayed that install until that same time. We scheduled the 2nd installation for the next Wed, then called to reschedule for Saturday. On Saturday, they came and installed the a/c and humidifier - even working in the rain to complete the job. They upgraded our humidifier to one with the outdoor auto-sensor since we were patient with their scheduling issues - an unexpected and appreciated bonus for us! We were happy with everyone we talked with at AllTemp. They were all courteous and knowledgeable. Very nice guys and patient with all of our questions. I also felt that they were very honest in their assessment and quotes. I would definitely recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Initial service call for non-working furnace which resulted in full replacement of furnace, a/c and whole-house humidifier.

Most of the times the staff is superb, however they forgot to give me Angie?s list discount on several units, but the lady there dug up the whole years report and took care of it . I use them all the time so I think it shouldn?t have happened in the first place but its okay. I just think they drag their feet a little bit too much and compromise on the quality of work some times. I had them install a toilet in my house not too long ago which was not done well. It just needed a shim in there but my husband did it eventually. I think it should have been taken care of the first time when they came out for the job. I also had them do some work in another property and I thought they over charged me. But I also think that they are better than other places in this area.

At a minimum, I would like All-Temp to refund $75 of the $150 service club for 2008-2009 since I will not be having them perform the spring air conditioner tuneup included in the price of the service club. In a perfect world, All-Temp should also refund the costs of all of the service calls after the first one in March 2005 ($266-49=$217), but I'm not optimistic that this will happen. I have the receipts with from these twice annual checks plus service calls with technician notes.
Description of Work: All-Temp provided twice yearly checks for my furnace & AC since 06/2004 (originally installed by another company 10/1997). In 10/2004, I joined their service club for $150 annually that included two annual checkups & a 10% service call discount. On 03/10/2005, my furnace started having a recurring problem where it would shut itself down with an error code 12 or 44, indicating blocked air return or air supplies. In addition to the twice annual checkups, All-Temp attempted to service the furnace for this problem on 3/10/2005 ($49) 3/17/2005 (No Charge), 12/28/2005 ($65), 2/23/2006 ($72), 11/14/2008 ($80). Because we live in an old house that we have renovated over the years, I accepted their explanation that the furnace was oversized & we needed to keep the vents to all rooms open. Still the problem continued to occur, so over the years they removed an air intake cap, reduced gas pressure, adjusted the programming so the furnace blower ran on low speed only, recommended thermostat replacement (not done) & recommended increasing the air intake & exhaust pipe diameter from 2" to 3" (not done). The furnace seemed to perform fine between service calls until 12/2008 when the problem began occuring regularly. We then spoke with a service manager several times who asked that we log the dates, times, & error codes each time the furnace shut itself down. When it became evident All-Temp didn't have a clue how to solve the problem, we called another company in 01/2009 who found that the air conditioner coil was blocked with a mat of about 1 inch of dirt & pet hair. This mat wasn't in the area of the filter & electronic air cleaner (which are cleaned regularly) but in an area at the top of the furnace that isn't accessible to anyone but a service person. Since this service, our furnace has performed perfectly. I finally got over my annoyance that All-Temp hadn't found the problem & called them to discuss the situation. I spoke to Bernie, who is the same service person my husband spoke to in December. Bernie told me that he would have known immediately what the problem was. At that time, I didn't realize that was who my husband had spoken to previously, so I didn't question him on this. He asked me what I wanted them to do about it. I said I wanted them to come out & ensure that the furnace was programmed correctly; ie, running at variable speed & not just low speed, etc. Bernie then told me that the motor speed was the only possible adjustment, which of course contradicted the adjustments noted on my service tickets over the years. Fed up, I didn't question him on this. He then indicated that he would check with a owner to see if any type of refund could be made but he was doubtful. Since he laughed when he said this, I don't have much faith anything will come of it. Another concern is that when Bernie was interruped by another All-Temp employee, he spoke very rudely to them including swearing (g.d.) that was audible to me. Very disappointed in All-Temp.

Before he left, he set up an appointment to come back in the spring to adjust as needed for warmer weather for no additional cost.

They checked and cleaned my furnace, because I wasn't happy with the way it was heating the rooms. The serviceman explained everything to me, that he did. He gave me some tips on distributing the heat properly, by closing off a vent here and there. The price was very good. They were teriffic! I will use them again.

He described the process he would use, and noted the complications of running ductwork inside a small HVAC closet. He had to make several trips down to the truck to collect all the equipment needed. He was careful to clean his feet coming in and out of the snowy patio. He showed me how to operate the humidifier, changed the filter in my furnace, and left on time. The cost was exactly as predicted.

 + -1 moreWe were getting very little heat, called at 10 PM & Pete was out the next day. He said 1 of the fuses in our electric furnace was blown & some wires were burnt, & needed to be replaced. The 15% Angie's list discount was mentioned, but it wasn't calculated into the bill for $221. When questioned, Pete said we could use it for a new furnace or another service. Heat was restored, & we called the same day to request a quote on a new furnace. After 1 week, no one called, so we again called to request a quote. Salesman John came out, measured & looked at only the area of the current furnace, gave a passing glance at our living room/dining room, & began writing a quote. John gave us a quote for $2930 for a Bryant/Payne unit that is 60% larger than our current one. We asked why, & he said a smaller unit wouldn't work. When we pressed why, he was unable to give further explanation. We asked about a humidifier on a new unit, & John said he'd check to see, he didn't think a humidifier would work on an electric furance, but didn't know and would check. He didn't. We asked the make/model of the unit quoted, and he told us it would be Bryant, Carrier or Payne, "whatever will fit the space you have." He told us they were really busy with calls, & we needed to make a decision fast so that an installation could be scheduled. The quote referenced a 15% Angie's list discount, & a $130 credit for the previous service call. John had been sitting in our mahogany dining chairs, and after he left, we saw that something in his pocket had left several deep scratches in the back of the chair. John called 2 days later, asking if we had a decision about the furnace, and again said they were really busy and needed to get the installation scheduled. I questioned again the need for a unit 60% bigger than the present one, and asked if he'd done a load calculation. He said he did not, he "just know[s]." He said we have "a lot of baseboard to heat" and a unit comparable to current "won't do it." I told him, as we had during his visit, that the baseboards are independent of the furnace, and only supplemental to the forced air system. He argued the point with me, and still didn't believe me when I asked if he's seen the on/off dial on each unit. He said he hadn't, and continued to insist that the units are attached to the furnace, which they aren't. I asked him if it is efficient to use a larger than necessary unit. He responded that there's only $100 difference between a 15 kw heater and a 10 kw heater, so "you might as well get the bigger one." I told him that we were getting other quotes and would advise if we were going to proceed. Two weeks later, our heat went out entirely. We called another company, who came out the same day. The serviceman found that the wires Pete had supposedly replaced had only been taped. The new company replaced all fuses and wires in the unit, and charged $191.00.
Description of Work: Serviceman said he replaced 1 fuse and some wires, but invoice showed 2 fuses replaced. Provided a quote on a new furnace.

We ve been using All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. for four years. When we bought the house, All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. was who had serviced the house previously. We just stuck with them. They are cordial on the phone. They make appointments fairly quickly. Of course if you wait until their busiest time, you may have to wait a week or two. All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. is fairly flexible when it comes to special needs, like making a call before they come out and things like that. They maintain a level of quality service. We ve had no problems with the air conditioner or the furnace, and they re not new by any means. Whatever All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. is doing it is working. I will continue to use All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning Inc.

He replaced the motor and cleaned the furnace. Worked for a long time, very serious about the job. Answered all questions and stressed that the filter must be changed monthly. This is what caused the problem initially. Gave Angie's List discount.
