Our air conditioner stopped producing cool air about a month ago, and we just haven't gotten around to getting it serviced. The heat and humidity prompted me to call this morning thinking that it would be a long time before we would get anyone out here to look at it because of the hot weather and how busy all of these places must be. Within 3 hours, someone was here. He was very polite, very nice. He was a good sport about getting up onto the roof (our air conditioner's on the roof of our 6-unit condo building), and within an hour or so, he had an appraisal of the situation. He explained a few options to me and the cost, and we decided to replace the freon and also install the hard-start component incase the problem was a weak compressor. If the compressor was the problem and causing the leak, we would just have to replace the freon again and then put in the part (and pay for another service call), and since the freon was the majority of the cost, I went ahead and agreed to the hard-start part for the compressor, which would probably be cheaper than getting another service call, replacing some of the freon, and THEN doing the part--plus I figured it was worth the peace of mind and not having to fit another service call into my schedule. Within another hour or so, the part/freon were installed. The man said that he saw a couple very small leaks right away and was able to tighten a couple valves as well. A few hours later, the air is working great. Hopefully, this did the trick. We'll be calling this company back to service the unit in the future.
Description of Work: Inspected our roof-top air-conditioner, replaced 7lbs of freon, fixed a couple minor leaks by tightening some valves, installed a hard-start part for the compressor.

I have a Unico Space Pac system. A tech came out on 6/14. He said the Condensate Overflow Safety Switch needed replacing. He did not have one in the truck and went to another tech in the area to get one. He returned 45-60 minutes later. He went to check the outside component and said the freon was low. Started charging it, said it was freezing up and the I should leave it off for several hours and they would come back on the 16th to finish charging the system. A different tech came back on the 16th and said it was overcharged and he had to take some out. He also said the capacitor needed replacing. After 2 hours, he said it was ready to go. I'm not certain now that the first tech knew what he was doing. He overcharged the system with freon if the second tech had to remove some. I paid for the time it took the second tech to do that. I called a supply company in Chicago to see how much the parts were. I was charged $45.00 for the safety switch and the company that makes them sells them in bulk for $15.00. The capacitor sells for $9.00, I was charged a whopping $122.00 for that. That's outrageous and deceptive!!! In addition, on the bottom of the receipt it's written "$5.00 off if you are not asked to join our discount club." Neither tech asked me that. I doubt if I'd join it now after this experience. I called All Temp on July 1 and talked to the manager, Bernie. He said that they tack on labor to all the parts they sell, even though they are charging you an hourly labor rate of $84.00. Isn't that deceptive and overcharging? So the hourly rate is more like $135.00, but they don't tell you that. Bernie told me that the supply company shouldn't have told me what the price of the parts were. WHY NOT? So I couldn't find out how much the part really costs and how much you are overcharging? He said he would look for the receipt and get back to me ASAP. It was two weeks after the service and he still didn't have the ticket? After 4 business days, he still did not call me so I called him. Pretty poor customer service if you ask me. When I called him back on July 7, he made no apologies about not calling me back, didn't remember me or the issue but gave the excuse of being really busy. Guess you have my money and don't think much of customer service do you? He said he still did not have the ticket and wanted to put me on hold and said I should call him back if we got disconnected. No, I think you should call me back dude! He was rather cold and arrogant during the whole phone call. He finally found the ticket and said that the price was correct, they added labor to the parts. If you charged me 3X the price for the safety switch (a $15 part for $45), they why don't you charge me 3X the price for the capacitor ($9 part for $27 instead of $122). No response to my question. Then he said that I should not have been charged labor (which was $168). He said they would send me a check for $154 but it would be later the next week. I was not trusting this guy but to my surprise I did receive a check for that amount. I would not use this company again, even if they got good ratings. I'm guessing that previous customers did not check the price of the parts and were double and overcharged as I was. The customer service and attitude of Bernie was unacceptable. I WILL NOT USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN AND WOULD GIVE THEM A GRADE OF F-.

Our ac stopped working on the weekend. they sent someone to repair it on Tuesday & found out that the compressor was shot. They scheduled to replace the unit right away and were out Thursday morning at 10am to install the new unit. They also saved us some money by suggesting a 3ton unit, we had a 4 ton unit before and had problems with the line freezing because the unit was bigger than needed. We did have priority scheduling because we are part of their discount club, they installed new furnaces for us a couple years ago and we have been very happy with their professionalism & quick responses.

Through no fault of his own, the technician was late due to other work. I think the company should have done a better job of apprising me of the delay. I had to call to ask for an update on the ETA. The technician Lucas was v. good, however. He was professional, courteous and quite efficient, and provided a helpful explanation of the work done. I would certainly ask for him specifically in future repair work.

Went very well at first. Very professional. Technician immediately diagnosed my A/C issue and was very cooperative in letting me follow him around to learn what was going on and how to diagnose myself in the future. Only problem was at the end I asked him to do a quick check to make sure everything else was working and he did not really do so - seemed in a hurry to get elsewhere. As luck would have it, that night it went from 70 to 35 and needed to switch to heat. Heat did not work. Aggrivated, called All-Temp the next morning. Was happy to hear they would send out another tech at no charge to diagnose the problem with my heat. Turns out the same day they fixed the problem with the A/C the lighting element in my furnace broke. Odd coincidence , but I suppose just that. This guy was fantastic! He spent way more time there than he needed to, very careful to test everything, going out of his way to make sure I was happy - even pulling me in to show me some things I didn't know about the furnace and easy fixes in the event anything happened like this again. Most would have waled away after replacing the element, but he tested all the wires and found an additional problem with a short that was causing my A/C and heat to stay on as the same time...would have cost me a FORTUNE in electric bills!!! He stayed probably an hour longer to diagnose that and repair. I loved the experience andwould ask for this tech by name if using All-Temp again.\ Overall, very positive experience except for the first tech leaving a bit too hastily and missing the problem with my furnace. The issue however was solved very quickly by an even more knowledgeable and friendly guy! The journey was a bit rough, but in the end, couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem with air conditioning, replaced capacitor. Came back to diagnose issue with heating, replaced heating element (the item that glows to light a gas burning furnace).

Very well overall. Everyone was prompt and did exactly what I wanted them to do. The price was competitive with the other estimates I received. My only fault of them was that they did not do a load calculation for our house prior to recommending a unit. Of course, only one of the companies that I dealt with did do a load calculation.

They repaired the duct work on the upstairs furnace as a courtesy. I paid around $3800 for the work. I got three estimates for the new furnace. I was interested in the brand that this company provided. Also, their quote was mid-range. I was very happy with the guy who came out to do the quote. The work was completed in a day. They came out in the morning, as they said they would. The furnace was up and running by midday. They took out the old furnace without any mess. They even replaced the thermostat and installed the humidifier, which I didn?t have earlier. The new furnace came with a new thermostat. I will definitely call them back, if required.

I was not very happy with their service. They came out and the guy was really nice. They looked at my furnace and first they said everything was okay, but then they came out several times. The supervisor finally came out and fixed the problem. If the supervisor had come out the first time, I would have been much happier with their work. I would have preferred a more experienced person the first time.

The power vent on our water heater was making funny noises on a Monday night, so on Tuesday I called four HVAC companies rated "A" on Angie's List for quotes. Given the commodity like nature of a water heater (they all quoted one of two brands), I went with All-Temp since they were the lowest by a few hundred dollars. The water heater ended up dying on Tuesday night and they came out on Wednesday. The water heater was installed when only a babysitter was at our place, so no one was there to inspect the finished product. All appeared to be ok until I notice a puddle of water on the floor. It turns out the installer did not fully tighten the fittings connecting the water source or the water flowing out causing water to pool on the top of the heater and then down the back of the heater onto the floor. I called the main number and asked if someone could come back and look at this in the evening but was told that the installer was on his last job of the day and couldn't come back until the morning. I was a little nervous about letting water drip all night, but it ended up not being an issue. The installer came out first thing Thursday morning, blamed his partner for the oversight on tightening the fittings, made the needed adjustments and everything is ok. I wasn't thrilled with having them need to come out a second time, but it was handled fairly professionally and everything is working just fine now. The sales guy also threw in a free furnace cleaning with the new hot water heater, so all in all, I feel like I got a fairly good deal on the whole project.

All Temp answered the phone promptly and said they would have someone stop by before 1pm. The technician arrived around 11am and began work immediately. He explained everything that he was looking at and how the different parts in the furnace work and what would potentially cause the furnace to not start. He was able to clean out the pressure switch and tested the furnace several times to ensure that it was operating properly. I decided to not have the part replaced because it was operating well. The technician told me that if the problem occurs again within the next 30 days All Temp will come out and replace the part and not charge for another service call.
Description of Work: Furnace was not starting. The status light indicated there was a problem with the pressure switch. I called All Temp Saturday morning around 9am to have someone come out and check the furnace.

(03/08/2010) Our boiler was leaking from a valve from the expansion tank. Although the unit is and has been heating sufficiently, I have been concerned since it started about a month ago. Jason, the service man was extremely knowledgeable about boilers specifically. He explained what was happening, and that replacing the expansion tank at $400 would solve the most immediate issue, but since the boiler is 25 years old we might think about replacing it entirely (tank included:$4000). He pointed out differences in types, efficiency and safety. I appreciated the information, but did not make a commitment, as I may want to get another quote just to compare. He left a contact number in order for my husband to call him with any questions, since he could not be present for the appointment, which was very nice. UPDATE (05/20/2010) I would advise everyone always to get a second opinion, when it comes to an expensive fix, no matter how glowing reviews are.
Description of Work: (03/08/2010) Diagnostic service call. UPDATE (05/20/2010) This is actually an addition to my previous report. We met a retired HVAC man at a function and got into a conversation about the issue we were having, when we had All Temp come out. This retired man told my husband all he had to do was DRAIN the expansion tank. He called it "waterlogged" and it should be drained about every 4 years. Something about the water/air ratio. We did this, and the problem stopped, no more leaking. Everything fine. Basically, All Temp charged us a service call for the opportunity to sell us a completely new unit, for thousands of dollars and did not perform something as simple as what was apparently the problem.

I called on Wednesday and was able to set up an appointment for the following Saturday morning between 8 and noon. Greg arrived at 11:15 and got right to work. He was very nice and professional. He cleaned the furnace, hot water heater, and also changed the humidifier pad. My husband and I just moved into our house a few months ago, and we had some questions regarding our furnace and hot water heater. Greg was very patient and answered all of our questions very thoroughly. I appreciated the fact that he wasn't an alarmist. We will definitely call All Temp in the future. Greg did a great job!

It was in the evening when the thermostat broke and the heat went off. It was very cold. I called All Temp and they connected me with someone on-call after hours. I had no idea how long it would take or how much it would cost. He was on a job but would get to me next. He arrived in about two hours and repaired the thermostat in about half an hour. The gentleman was very professional. All Temp gave me 15% off the cost. I expected the late night visit would be expensive, but I found the cost to be quite reasonable. I would definitely call them again.

Water heater started leaking at 11 PM. Called All Temp 24 hour service. Frank told me how to remove the water from the leaking water heater so I would not have a flood. In the morning Ned & Rick set up an appointment for that day, working around my work schedule. Ernie & Solomon replaced my hot water heater & removed my old one. They service the furnace and air conditioning unit that is they do the annual cleaning and maintenance. They clean the thermocouple unit for the furnace, check everything and make sure it is working smoothly. In the spring or early summer they come, recharge my Freon and clean the air conditioning unit. They are pretty flexible, they show up when they say they would and they are punctual. The guys clean up after themselves when they come out and they don't leave any mess. They would be coming out in a couple of weeks.
