They finished within a day. Only concern is that they attached the power to the wooden stair steps. Concerned that this could get damaged when we shovel the stairs since the stairs are open. When I questioned, this, the one guy was a bit flip, so I am following up with the sales person since I don't want to have issues with the unit. The other guy provided more of an explanation, however, he stated that the whip needs to be six feet maximum and if they had put the power box on the actual concrete wall of the building, I measured it and its within the six feet, so they could have run it along the building rather than the stairs.
Description of Work: Had them install a new AC unit.

We've used All Temp in the past for both furnace and air conditioning issues, and have been pretty satisfied (prices seemed a bit high, but not out of the ordinary as all of these services always seem high). Nearly every time I've had to call All Temp it's unfortunately been after hours or on a weekend. Today was no different. We have a one year old in the house so hot water is even more of a necessity so we decided to suck up the weekend surcharge and call when we realized that our water heater wasn't working the error message was, "gas valve fault detected." Called All Temp at about 1 pm to request same day service. They said they would page a tech. Two hours later and nothing. My husband called back and the answering service said "we paged him right away after you called so we'll call him back." Pretty much immediately my husband then received a call from the tech. It was very apparent that he had no desire to come out today. At first he was walking my husband through steps that he could try to reset the water heater - but we had already done those things. Then he went into talking about how even if he did come today if we required a part he wouldn't be able to get the part until Monday anyway. And just for good measure he added that he was already another job so it would be "a long time" before he could get out to us. He wasn't rude - but it was just very clear that he didn't want to deal with coming out to provide us service. When we're willing to pay a surcharge for weekend service you expect that charge to pay for the company reps to get over any reluctance to perform that service. Not so in this case. No one wants to pay a minimum of $125 to a person that has made clear they don't want to be there. Because of the decent service we've received in the past we might consider using All Temp again, but we've already found another heating and cooling company through Angie's List that we've used once before and will be our go to company in the future.
Description of Work: We called to have someone out to fix our water heater - we were getting a "gas valve fault detected" message. They didn't actually perform service.

They did not come to my house like I had requested, instead, they went directly to my tenant’s house. I then advised my tenant to tell them to wait for me. When I showed up at my tenant’s house they were there but they were ready to leave because it had taken me an hour to get there. They just asked me if I was the owner and I said, “Yes.” They said they couldn't do anything because there was a pin in the meter and that I needed to get a plumber. I have no idea what they did because I was not there when they performed their services. I was billed for “job completed” and they Didn't complete the job. I have no idea what they did because I was not there when they performed their services. I did not sign for anything, my tenant did, and I am the one who has to pay for it.
Description of Work: I had them come for a gas leak at my tenant’s house.

Contacted All Temp to arrange for an estimate on new HVAC system. Mike Clark arrived at the agreed time, inspected the existing system and made recommendations for a new system. Left me with product literature and promised to get back to me promptly with a full quote. I didn't hear from him for about a week and when I phoned him, he said he would "fire-up the PC" and email it immediately. Never got the quote and phoned him a couple of days later to inquire again. Got his voice mail, left a message, no return phone call. Nice guy; perhaps they do a good job but we'll never know due to the lack of follow-up. I simply cannot understand why these service guys spend the time to visit a home and then fail to follow-up with a quote. If he wasn't interested in bidding the job, he should have had the courtesy to say so. UPDATE 9/12/11: Mike got in touch to say that he had tried to send the quote by email on the day we spoke and would send again. I have now received the quote and am considering. Will update report again. UPDATE 8/27/12: Phoned Mike to let him know that we had obtained permits and begun demolition and asked him to come out again to provide an updated estimate. He did so promptly and invested the time to evaluate the mechanical drawings and calculate the various loads, needed supplies/returns, etc. The bid was higher the second time and about $5,000 higher than a comparable bid from a well-known competitor. I let Mike know this but there was apparently no flexibility on price so we have decided to go with the other company.

I was able to book my AC Tuneup for the next day which was nice. The serviceman showed up on time and went right to work checking the filters on the inside units then went out side and started cleaning the units with a hose and a lot of sludge came out and the serviceman explained that the bottom of the AC enclosure has holes to help drain the wayer and sludge but they become clogged over time and then back up. He also hooked up his gauges to monitor the temp and AC Refrigerant levels. Found one unit to be just fine but the other unit was low and he filled it with a small amount of refrigerant. Great value and peace of mind for $60 per unit.
Description of Work: AC End of the season tune up and cleaning was performed on my 2 units. One of my AC units was not cooling as well as it once did and after the cleaning and adding small amount of refrigerant it was back to working as new.

Overall service was very good. My husband said that the service man was punctual and thorough. He explained what he was doing and why. This was an Angie's List Big Deal, so the basic cost of the tune-up was good. Apparently, someone had previously put the wrong type of capacitor on the air conditioning unit. The service man explained this to my husband and showed him why the capacitor was wrong and was actually running the air conditioner too fast, causing extra wear and tear and shortening the life of the unit. He replaced the wrong capacitor with a correct one. This cost extra, but he gave us a discount.
Description of Work: Air conditioner tune-up. Checked coolant pressure and all registers, checked capacitor and compressor, checked fan.

Description of Work: This was one of the Big Deals. A/C got cleaned and topped off. Checked the filter and gave good advice about replacing it. A/c now pumping out more and colder air. Best A/C advice I've had for any company that's been through the door. Very happy.

I am dissatisfied with the "Big Deal" coupon (Order # 110292) with All-Temp for an A/C tune-up. This was portrayed as a big deal compared to the $129 standard fee, but AllTemp and others frequently offer this service for discounted prices not much above your BD price. However, I went for this deal with AllTemp even though they were not the original A/C installer (4 Seasons). When the service man arrived he made it plain that the service level for the Angie's List deal was not up to the standard service. He took a bunch of measurements on the A/C, cleaned the screen and said there were serious problems, needing repairs of up to $800 (even though he unit is about 3 years old). He also tracked mud and dirt on my carpet. I then called 4 Seasons. Their serviceman wore shoe covers so dirt would not be tracked into the house. He made some adjustments on the A/C and added some freon and all was ok.

I purchased the group discount coupon from Angie's List. I called on a Saturday and they returned the call on the following Monday. I was surprised that they were able to come out on that same day. The tech called 20 minutes prior to arrival which was very good. He was very professional and thorough in explaining things. Every thing was in working order.

In a word, great. The techs were on time for the appointment and called ahead about 15 minutes before to let me know they were on their way. The techs were courteous and knowledgable. They checked out my system and offered useful suggestions about filters and temperature settings. They cleaned both the furnace and the outdoor compressor as well as checking refrigerant levels. They adjusted the fan speeds for heating and cooling. After I related a problem I had with the furnace heating cycle (not part of the Angie's Big Deal coupon), they suggested the probable cause. I asked them to have a sales rep contact me who did so about an hour later. We arranged for him to come to my home at my convenience two days later. He did so and performed all the checks and calculations the US Dept of Energy states should be done to determine correct furnace and air conditioning outputs for the size of my home. He provided a firm quote and answered all my questions, including utility and tax rebates avaialble. I could not be more pleased.

I don't know how these guys are so well rated. The service guy said my air conditioner needed to be replaced. I know it was 30 years old, but it worked fine. For preventative reasons, I had someone come out to give an estimate to replace it. The guy came out, but was very uncommunicative. I asked questions, but he brushed my concerns aside, and blew me off. I asked to have the estimate emailed to me, and he took my email address, but I never got the estimate or any follow up. They had replaced the blower motor in my heating system in December. It failed in August, leading me to replace the entire HVAC system. Their work is shoddy and parts break within 9 months, and they don't take care of their customers.

They were dishonest. They came out and repaired my unit, charging me $600. After that, they said it may not help since there was a problem with the compressor. The compressor did end up failing, and we had to get a new unit. When we called them, they apologized and said they would give us credit for buying a new a/c. They should not have done the repair and charged me the money since they obviously knew that other parts might go bad. He didn't look through the situation and present options, he just went right into the repair which ultimately was useless.

After subscribing and receiving my coupon, I called the number on the emailed coupon. After describing the service, the pricing and my residence location, I was told to call a different number with no explanation. All-Temp is a franchise and the Chicago based franchisee that published the coupon through Angie's List was unable or unwilling to service a client located I-90 and Randall in Elgin. The alternate franchisee was located in Wauconda. Upon calling the franchisee in Wauconda as instructed by Chicago, Wauconda told me to call the Chicago based franchisee number on the coupon. When I told them that I was given the Wauconda number by the Chicago office, I was put on hold. The scheduler returned to the telephone and told me I was scheduled for the morning of Aug 2 between 8 and noon, a little over a month from purchasing the Big Deal coupon. My A/C was running fine, so I accepted the date. When the technician arrived to perform the A/C inspection, the service could not have been better. The technician was thorough, polite, informative and clearly enjoyed his profession. This comment cannot be construed as to the effectiveness of the Chicago based All-Temp franchisee. The service delivered the Wauconda based All-Temp technician was outstanding, What I learned through this experience was to not expect the same service at scheduling.

The salesman came out and spent an hour going through my condo to quote replacement of our AC and furnace. The guy never followed up with a quote, phone call, estimate, nothing. They were running behind on their first appointment and I had to reschedule to the next day. They did the inspection, took their time, and answered all of my questions. They changed my filter, but they didn’t try to sell me on anything. It was a good experience. I had another issue with my AC making a funny noise, and they were able to come out right away with no charge because I have a contract with them. It was nice because they were easily able to fix the problem. The guy also took extra time to explain a lot of information to me and cleaned my condensate pump for free.

I came home one Tuesday to find that my A/C wouldn't turn on. I called All Temp first thing the next morning, and made an appt for the following day. The All Temp repair guy came within the alloted time frame (though I did NOT get a phone call before he showed up, as I was told I would). He checked my A/C unit, which is on the roof, and told me a I needed a new part. He sourced the part, which was apparently hard to find, and so we had to schedule the actual installation for the next afternoon. On Friday, the same repairman showed up at the appointed time, and he installed the new part in less than an hour. He showed me the old broken part too, which I appreciated. The whole scenario was pretty quick and painless. The part I needed wasn't cheap, but I did appreciate the discount they give to Angie's List members. The repairman who came to my house was nice and professional. The woman who answered the phone and made my initial appointment could have been more professional. So far, my A/C has been working great.

We have separate 1st floor and 2nd floor central air units. The 2nd fl. unit was seeming to lag on the dehumidifying part as well as running on a bit to get to the set temp. We were heading out of town so we figured we'd get service upon our return. When we did return we found the 1st fl. unit performing even more poorly. It could get the temp down past 76 and this was with running almost constantly. We've used All-Tem in the past for service as well as installation of a furnace so I had no hesitation about calling them. We were concerned about price it being a Sunday but the call was only about $50 more than a non-emergency weekday call. The sevice tech showed up when he said he would, was VERY courteous and thorough. He replaced a couple of parts and told us the 2nd fl. unit was fine and only needed the assistance of the downstairs cooling to get us where we wanted comfort-wise; and he was right! And he reminded me of an Angie's discount I had failed to mention on top of it.

Technician came out in response to our report of a non-working central AC system. Technician proposed a $2000 compressor replacement when the issue could be fixed for 10 times less by replacing a capacitor. After inspecting the unit technician said that the issue is in our compressor and replacement will run us $1700-$2200. Alternatively we could get a brand new unit for $3000+. We thanked technician for looking into the issue and paid $85 for the visit. Now two days later we had another specialist look at the unit. He replaced a $70 part, performed some minor service, for a total bill of $237 and now our AC is back on. Reason for our AC unit not working was a faulty capacitor that is used to start the compressor, but not compressor itself. I feel that ALL TEMP has violated our trust as an AC specialist. It could be negligence, lack of expertise, or a deliberate attempt to get a larger unnecessary repair gig. In any case this is not a company that should be on an A list with Angies. I am questioning the value of my subscription to Angies as this is an A-rated vendor.

First we just used Angie's Big Deal for an inspection and tune-up. We've noticed the last 2 years that our AC doesn't seem to work efficiently, and this summer it had gotten worse, never keeping our home as cool as we'd like. When the guy came out, he said everything worked fine and it wasn't efficient because we weren't using the right filters. He said it should work once we get new filters. So we changed our filters and it didn't get better. In fact, 4 days later it was over 10 degrees warmer than we had set it. So we called them back (in the beginning of the big heat wave) and they sent someone out that day. He said our condenser was now broken, even though it had been fine days earlier, and our unit was so old that we might be able to get an after market condenser, but it would take a week or two. I was about a week away from delivering twins, and the thought of waiting for a week or two during this heat wave sounded like torture. That same evening, another guy came out to give us an estimate for an entire new unit, and said they'd rush it due to our circumstances. Within 48 hours of our call, we had a new air conditioner working better than our old one ever had, and it seems much more energy efficient. We really appreciate their responsiveness during the heat wave, and our new AC unit is working well right now.
Description of Work: Inspection of air conditioning unit, which they said was fine, then 5 days later it died and we had to replace it.
