AAA Tree Service

Went very well. All the work was done in two days. Looks very good.

This is the second time in 8+ years that they pruned this tree. Larry first evaluated the tree and declared it healthy, despite the fact that its growing partly through a chain link fence. We discussed how much he was going to remove (about 1/3). He climbed up with a harness and spurs and removed branches while a two man crew below gathered and sorted. Its become a very wide tree, so he removed branches that dipped into my neighbors yards on either side. This is in Chicago on a narrow city lot, btw. I was referred to AAA Tree Service by a friend who had an enormous tree suffering from carpenter ants that Larry treated. This was at least 15 years ago. That tree is still healthy and now one of the biggest in their neighborhood. I have a huge pile of firewood now, enough for several summertime backyard parties (!) I'll continue to use AAA Tree Service. They're the only tree service I've used so don't have a cost comparison and can't comment on that. They arrived on time and took between 3 and 4 hours to complete. That was a little longer than estimated. My only complaint: they're low tech. No email, you contact them via phone and wait for a return call. And checks only; no credit cards.

They came out to do an estimate. I received the estimate within a day or two via e-mail. I approved the work and we scheduled a date. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked very hard. Everything looked wonderful when they were done. It was a Father's Day gift to my husband who was thrilled not only with the job they'd done, but the fact that he didn't have to do it :-) Good experience.

The overall experience has always been good with AAA Tree Service. They have always done a great job for us. I trust Larry and his crew completely with the health of our trees. They leave the yard looking great and I always feel that I got excellent value fo my money.

AAA Tree Service spent a full day trimming and shaping our trees and removing 3 more. They last trimmed our trees 3 years ago. It was time for a trim and to clean them up. They always very careful not to damage any surrounding property, including gardens and bushes. They cleaned up the whole area, leaving no debris. They were happy to meet our request to cut tree trunks be cut for firewood and all other branches,etc, were chipped and removed. The place looks great and the trees look very healthy again.

Very, very disappointing. At first, Larry did a great job taking down the old tree and putting in the new one. It was early in the season, before the trees got leaves. He asked for a bonus because the tree was so nice, and we gave it to him. So far, so good. Then the season progressed, and only the bottom third of the tree got any leaves. This is when the trouble began. Larry was slow to come and look at the tree. He agreed it needed to be replaced, but essentially turned the problem over to his very combative wife, Sharee. She told us that the nursery did not want to replace the tree. I had to call the nursery, which agreed to give them a new tree. Then weeks went by, and many calls and even a letter went unreturned. Finally, they came out with a smaller tree and charged us an additional $200 for the pleasure of getting it. Sharee was kind enough to share her view that she never liked the original tree (the one we had paid a bonus, after the fact, to get). Along the way, I found out that the company is unregistered; that the fax number is non-operative; and that the address is someone else's.

We had some large tree limbs fall off a tree in our backyard with the recent summer storms that swept through Chicago. Larry came out the next day and made quick work of the fallen limbs with his chain saw. His price was super fair 75.00 for about 2.5 hours of work. He took the large pieces from the backyard to the street for the city to remove along with all of the other fallen branches. Nice guy. Very fair price. Only complaint was that there was lots of little tree debris that I needed to clean up around the yard.

Where do I start? These guys are an interesting operation. When we called for an estimate and spoke to Elsie, Larry came out within 48 hours. Nothing fancy - showed up in a t-shirt, no quoting pad. Took a look at the tree and came up with an oral estimate within 5 minutes. I asked him to come down a bit and he knocked 25 bucks off. Never did get a written estimate. Larry says he has been climbing trees for close to 40 years now. The day of the job, Larry shows up with Elsie and a second helper. The job turned out to be bigger than Larry first quoted but he kept to his original quote. These guys are "low rent". They have no truck with a canopy and their operation consists of Larry the tree climber, 2 chainsaws and a bunch of ropes. They did a real nice job on the tree. We had two complaints, 1) Larry was only able to cut off dead branches from limbs he can climb out to. Therefore, without a tall ladder or lift, some dead branches were untouched. 2) The cleanup was good, not great. There were some straggler branches left on the garage and in the yard and in our neighbors yard. Oh one other thing...we were asked to make a check payable to "cash". Definitely not the most professional operation but they showed up, got the job done and at a very fair price.

Really likable guys who listened to what I wanted done, and then performed admirably. Although maybe not possessing the most professional appearance out there, they were through and did a great job.

They found a major problem on the roof that our home inspector had missed. We subsequently had it fixed. He did this as an extra, he told us about this. He's great I would use them again in a heart beat.

We scheduled services, but the very next day I called to postpone, as I realized I had a scheduling conflict. I was met with rudeness and an unwillingness to commit to another date. I was told that I'd have to wait to see how the timing would play out with "real" customers. I don't really know what kind of customer she thought we were! We decided, on that basis, not to use their services.

They did a really good job. It looks really nice. They did a great job cleaning up the yard after they were done. They forgot to clean off the garage, but it was no big deal.

We moved in to a new place that had a large tree in the front yard that had several dead branches. I got Larry's number from Angie's List, called, he came out the next day and gave me a verbal quote. I agreed, he came out the next day, did a great job, even did a little extra work to help this old tree, and charged what he quoted. I would definitely recommend AAA Tree Service.

The Petways are great! I called and spoke with Larry s wife, Sheri around noon and they were at my house to give me an estimate by 6 PM! They performed the work the next day! Larry and his crew were professional and took great caution not to damage my shrubs, plants and lawn. They disposed of all branches, even cutting some into firewood for my fire pit! I will definitely use AAA Tree Service the next time I need tree trimming.

Got their name from Angie's List. Liked what I read. Called and Larry (owner) came out that same day to provide a written estimate. Had gotten one other estimate from a provider recommended by a neighbor, but Larry's was better. Plus he seemed very knowledgeable - knew exactly what was required and my experience of him was that he liked looking after trees. Having recently moved to Chicago from Oregon, I liked that! Said he would come back to do the work sometime within the coming two days. On the second of the days, he called (well before the end of the day) to say he would not be making it until the following day. That is why I gave a "B" for punctuality. It wasn't tragic, but I had planned around it a bit. Thereafter, he was here on the day and at the time he had set up following our chat. I was thrilled with everything they did. His wife is a co-worker and they had a third individual with them. Larry knew exactly what to do. He treated it all like artistry; I really respected that. When they were done, I wrote the check for them on the spot. They cleaned up the entire premises before leaving. Oh, he found a carpenter ant infestation which I had not seen, but I surely did when he showed me. He had the product with him to treat it on the spot. I am very happy with my entire experience professionally plus they are very likable people - no talking down to me because I did not know much, no "know-it-all" airs of any kind, just an obvious willingness to do right by me and the trees. One thing I did not check on beforehand, and happily it didn't matter, is whether or not he was insured. Seeing how he had to climb, contort and reach to get at limbs and branches made me realize it is dangerous work. Definitely will have him out again when the tree needs another clip.

They came and gave us an estimate and that price did not change. We set a date, but they called to tell us that they had an emergency and we set a second date for service. They came to do the work. The tree was trimmed and they asked our input on what part of the tree we wanted removed. After the job, they cleaned up and took the tree limbs away. Great service, we would use them again.

We played phone tag a couple times before we connected. Elsie and Larry came out and met me. They are both very nice, and Larry is a character. He seemed very knowledgeable. He gave me a verbal estimate for the job on the spot, but wasn't able to give it to me in writing then. I thought that was strange they would come out to do an estimate, but not have the materials with them to write it up. Regardless, they returned the next day and dropped off the written estimate (they don't do email). Their estimate was fair, but another service had a lower estimate (by $50). Since this was for a condo building, the lower estimate won. I think we should have used AAA, and in the future I will try and use them.

They were great! They were here within an hour, assessed the situation, and went to work. The branch was huge and spanned from my roof to the neighbor's roof and was resting on my wires. Larry performed a miracle by supporting the branch (which involved him climbing the tree and securing the limb with a rope), and then taking it apart piece by piece - without damaging the deck or taking down live wires. Wow! He cleaned up and then he and his wife went to the barbecue our emergency had kept them from. We would call him anytime!

Waste of time. AAA Tree Service would not cut my tree down for the originally quoted price. For a company that claimed to have been in business for 30 years, they made a beginner's mistake.

Great. They were very organized and it was impressive to watch them work.

Larry came out promptly to see the work that need to be done. We agreed on a very reasonable price. The work was completed within a couple of days. All debris was hauled away. We are going to use him again for a slightly larger job involving a cottonwood tree.

This company came out and gave me an estimate. He had an opening that week and so we were scheduled within the week. They did their work and then went on their way.

Great! They returned our call right away, gave us an estimate that was almost $200 less than another service we found on Angie's List, did the work and that was that. We'll definitely use them again this summer when we need some shrubs cut back!

Very well, they did a great job, cleaned up all the mess and got the job done.

Larry did an excellent job. Prompt, courteous, very reasonable price. The tree removal was a bit complicated because several phone and cable lines ran through the tree, but he avoided damaging any of them.
