Receptionist said someone would call me back to schedule an appointment. 3 days later, she again said someone would call me back within the next 3 days. I told them that I guess they didn't want my business if it took them over a week to even schedule an estimate. -- updated due to quick response and competitive price on new work.

We were very surprised when this company told us that they didn't do jobs as "small" as ours. Our other estimates have come in at $1500-2000, so we were very surprised that this was too small for a company that advertises to residential customers.

Had three estimates before choosing AAA. They were the mid range. Met with Frank for estimate in July. His crew did work. Had more work done than originally had estimate for. All work was completed in timely manner. Biggest delay was the city work permit. Highly recommend. This is a busy time of year for construction, so schedule start time was hard to nail down but when the crew started they finished in four days. Used existing brick to make repairs. Looks great. Used Angies list coupon and saved 500.00 bucks

Needed an estimate for some masonry work for a 12 unit condominium building. Owner missed appointments, when he come out he never then responded to repeated attempts to get the actual estimate. Did not use email or fax. Seemed knowledgable but also seemed overworked and felt like he didn't really even want the job. F for responsiveness. Wasted a couple of hours of my time.

It didn't. We emailed and called without response. Finally got the owner on his cell phone, received apologies up and down for the lack of response to the RFP we sent 3 weeks earlier and a promise to get on it right away. Again, missed the deadline we agreed to and never returned calls or emails. Sadly, this is the 2nd time I have had such an experience with them despite them coming highly recommended. They are off my list for good...too many other good contractors out there interested in the business.

Heard especially good things about Arrow and AAA1 Masonry and called them both to come over and give an estimate. Arrow returned my call the next day and came over and gave an estimate within 2 days after. AAA1 was extremely arrogant and never called me back after several days. Finally I called back and said I would really like to give you guys a chance at a estimate and they gave me the sales reps cell phone number. He answered the call and was very charming and phoney on the phone saying he was very sorry and that he owed me a call but hadn't got back to me yet and would pull over and call me back in five minutes. Well I never got a call back and the next day I called to speak to a supervisor and got the run around again.....in this economy I just don't understand how you could be sooo stupid and not even entertain new business regardless of how busy you might be. Don't bother calling them and having to go through the same frustration. BTW the email address on their website to contact the company doesn't even work....they need to get their act together.

The chimney work that they did is absolutely beautiful, however the communication with me was terrible and it was not done in a timely manner. A job that should have taken maybe a week took about six months and all they would tell me was that it was weather issues. I wanted to tuck pointing to be done in fall, however it was more fall to early winter which I thought was inappropriate. Had I known that it would take so long I would have pushed the project back to spring. I have been pleased with about 50% of the work. They could have match the tuck pointing better and some of the cement work was shotty. They came out for the initial consultation and estimate in late August of 2008. We signed the contract in early September and the work was not completed until March of 2009.
Description of Work: AAA - 1 Masonry & Tuckpointing Incorporated came out to re-build a chimney, do some tuck pointing on my home, and put in a new stone step.
In May I was advised when I had a roofing contractor look at a leaking copper roof above a 6x12 one story entry-way on my 2-story 1928 brick house that before I got the roof fixed I should get the brickwork done since that was the original cause of the problem. I found that getting the several contractors' estimates was a learning process. John Serafini came out the first time within just a few days of my calling the company and gave me an estimate for what I absolutely needed. After considering that I'd rather get other marginal problems fixed I called him back twice to look at these areas of concern, get his opinion for the additional work and got 2 revised estimates. He was very patient with my call-backs. After I signed the contract and paid a deposit I was put on work list and informed that it would be about 4 weeks, depending on weather, until the work was started. However in just 2 weeks I got a call that the work could start in 2 days. Andy, the foreman, was at my door at 8:00 in the morning and estimated that it would take1 long day or possibly a little longer to finish the work with his crew of about 10. Because of thunderstorms they stopped work at 2, returned the next day and worked most of that day to finish the job. Andy gave me a couple of choices for the mortar color. The color selected matched the previous tuck pointing perfectly after it dried. Because of the color shift as mortar dries I know this color matching can be tricky and was really impressed with the outcome. After the first day, I was concerned about some mortar residue left on the rebuilt brick and voiced my concern which was taken seriously and resolved to my satisfaction. We were really impressed with the clean-up as well as how well the crew preserved the plantings around my house. The days that the work was done were brutally hot but even at the end of the day the crew worked like gangbusters, completing the job and cleaning up. To sum up I was totally impressed with the quality of the AAA-1's work, their efficiency and the respect they showed my property.
Description of Work: AAA-1 dismantled and rebuilt a 6'x12' brick entryway above the roof deck (about 1 1/2') reusing the original brick on the outside wall and installing new brick on the inside wall, resetting original capstones with stainless steel Ultra-Guard moisture barrier. They removed 11 rusted window opening support lintels and replaced with new, painted lintels wrapped with moisture barrier flashing. They tuck pointed after machine grinding all the many needed areas on the house that required it, matching the mortar color. They removed the cement coat at the top of the chimney and installed a new pre-cast capstone. Old ivy wood which was clinging to one area of the house was removed.

The estimate was done early spring and scheduled as soon as company was available. Workers arrived early on Saturday, the company rep John reviewed the estimate and work sites to confirm the work needed, and the crew started immediately and completed the work in one day. This is the second occasion AAA-1 has worked on our building I am happy with their work and their methods. They do great job on matching mortar and brick. They leave the work site clean and are very trustworthy.

I called AAA-1 and spoke with one of the owners Howard Reese at the beginning of April 09. I explained to Howard I would like him to look at the front of my house and garage as I needed an estimate on some tuck pointing and brickwork. I gave him my address and cell number. He assured me that he would be stopping by in the next couple of days and would mail me an estimate. This was at the beginning of April 09. I have had no response back after leaving him a vim on his cell phone nor have I received a response back from his office asking for his call back. NOTE: I should mention that the reason why I called Howard at AAA-1 is because their company did a complete 4 side tuck pointing job and lintel replacement work on a 3 story condominium building that I used to live in. Our condominium association gave AAA-1 a lot of money for the work they did. I am wondering if the job I am asking for on my single family home is not enough profit?

This contractor was recommended by my husband's employer and was excellent. They were prompt, fast and courteous. I had never dealt with masonry repair before and they were helpful and thorough. They finished this work in one day and left the work area very clean. I was very pleased with the excellent matching they did with my facade brick and mortar. Their work looks good and has generated many compliments.

The work was done well for $9000. AAA-1 Masonry & Tuckpointing bid the job at $16,730. They were not willing to meet me or go up on the roof, but bid the job as a drive by. It is my feeling that this company doesn't need work.
Description of Work: I obtained 8 bids from Angie's list companies for rebuilding the parapet of our 2-flat, replacing coping tiles, replacing parged areas with common brick and tuck pointing some face brick at the front of our home. The bids were as follows: $19,600, $16,730, $18,000, $13,000, $9250, $9000, $9000, and $6871.

Last fall I sent an email to the company asking for an estimate on waterproofing. No response received. Since the company is highly rated, I sent an email on 5/4 again requesting an estimate. As of 5/13, no acknowledgement or response received. The company lists email as a way to request an estimate so I do not understand why they don't respond.

Needed tuck pointing/ Chimney work done on a 14 unit townhouse association. Had trouble with intial contractor who came out- called office to complain and got a call back from the owner (Robert) who apologized profusely and said he himself would come out in a week. He was very punctual, knowledgeable and detailed (spent 3.5 hours inspecting all the chimneys). Said he had a printer in his car and would get all the estimates to me that night. WOW I was impressed! No estimates arrived that night, nor the following. 5 phone calls a fax, promise after promise and 4 weeks later NO QUOTE! I finally received one quote for all 12 homes- it said every home needed the SAME amount of work at the same cost which is unbelieveable since some chimneys have been repaired more recently than others. I read all the A+ reviews on Angies list before calling them out. Either everyone was on drugs or this company is quickly doing a downward spiral.. I wish them luck as they lost my 12 home contract
Description of Work: Nothing was performed- took too long to get a "generic" quote that seemed unreliable

I called AAA-1 and spoke with Bob Reese to get an estimate on some masonry work our 6-flat condo needed. It took nearly a week before he was able to come. He seemed very knowledgeable and told me he would get me a bid within 5 days. He never called or sent a bid. After looking at Angie's ratings, this seems to be a common problem with this company. I decided not to use this company.

Two or three weeks later I heard back. We scheduled a date for them to come out. He came out and looked. He was very professional. He said he was going on a vacation and I would have an estimate in ten days. It has been over a month. I spoke to a person that said they would look into and call me back and they did not. I liked him best out of the people I got from Angie's List, but his lack of follow through makes me not want to use him. It was not going to be a cheap job. Last week I spoke to Robert Reese himself, and again he apologized and said he would get back to me and I still have not heard from him.

The experience with AAA-1 was a very positive experience. First of all, the owner Robert gets very involved in the projects. From the initial estimate to the completion, he was engaged in the process. When he came for the estimate, you could tell he knew he had plenty of experience. We received estimates from 5 different companies and some of them had no idea how to address the specific problems we were having in our building. Our condo is 12 years old and we have been learning that the builder did not do the best of jobs. Robert clearly explained what was done incorrectly during the initial construction and how it caused the leaks and problems we were having. After the huge rainstorms, we were just happy to get on AAA-1's schedule as all companies were extremely busy. AAA-1 came out on 3 different occasions to do various parts of the project. They sent out a large team that was well-managed by the foreman and they were able to accomplish a lot. With that said, I was glad I was home to watch over the crew. Compared to other service providers, they were extremely accommodating and took extra care, but with the money we were spending I wanted to make sure they didn't miss anything and that they kept the work site as clean as possible (covering furniture, etc.). No matter what provider you use, I recommend making sure someone is home to keep an eye on the process. AAA-1 wasn't a problem, but you may not be so lucky with other companies. On the day they came to do the waterproofing, it had rained slightly and I was skeptical about whether they should do the work since the product works better on dry surfaces. I'm sure other companies would have told me that since it was not a big rainstorm, there would be no harm to doing the waterproofing, but AAA-1 was very understanding and did not put any pressure on me. We ended up re-scheduling. The waterproofing was a huge part of the cost and it seemed a bit excessive, but to us it was worth the risk with a reputable company. Our building is 12 years and the brick had never been waterproofed which was a sure recipe for future disaster. Most importantly, all of the work accomplished what it was intended to do. We had 3 separate leak zones before AAA-1 began their work and none have leaked again since the work has been completed. It's been a relief to have piece of mind about the quality of the work. Robert and the AAA-1 team have been extremely accommodating thru the whole process, more so than other service providers. The high grades on Angie's List have been earned thru quality work and excellent customer service. I highly recommend AAA-1. Before I buy my next home, I will definitely have Robert come out to take a look!
Description of Work: AAA-1 provided a variety of services for our condo building; grinding out and tuckpointing mortar joints, flashing and resetting stoop and parapet wall capstones, replacing a deteriorated door lintel and sealing/waterproofing our split brick concrete blocks.
