Lisa and Ron Elkins of 2 Point Perspective visited our home and we came to their office several times. We had several lengthy discussions to help all of us formulate a plan. My husband and I wanted to create more space in our small one story home. We are both retired (I was newly retired) and we were using our home more now that we were not working as much out of the house. We wanted the materials used for our project to be as green as possible and the design to be sustainable, beautiful, comfortable and safe for us as we continued to age. Lisa and Ron were extremely creative in their design of our house addition. They designed all phases of a beautiful, practical and very special plan that took into account every single detail that we asked for and many, many more that were woven into all of the phases of the design. Every tiny and large aspect of the plan was extremely well thought through from the awareness of blending in with the architecture of the houses in our neighborhood to the placement of light switches being placed in easily accessible locations. They took the design of our hosue and made it look as if the second level and first floor expansion had always been there. Every single question, suggestion or idea my husband and I had, was met with interest, respect and as much discussion as we needed to feel completely satisfied - often over tea served to us in their office. These two exceptional people served as liasons for us as we met with energy auditors, contractors and materials sales reps. They carefully explained every single step and every decision, pointing out the practical, green and financial aspects of each decision. The plan required working with the city zoning office and the city permit office. Lisa and Ron guided us through this process with the type of care that one saves for a special friend or family member - even providing me with a special bag to carry the rolled up plans into city hall ! I had chosen to present some aspects of the proposal on my own at city hall. Their caring guidance armed me with every detail of what I would need to obtain special zoning permits and general building permits. Not only did they teach me so very much, I felt very cared for by them as I ventured through a world of terms and systems that I had no prior knowledge of. Lisa and Ron were always organized, responsive and responsible. They had an agenda ready for each of our meetings, always had ready exactly what they had promised would be ready for the next step in the design process and were always patient and responsive to our endless phone calls, questions and e-mails. The financial proposal they had given us for the scope of the work they did was consistent with exactly what they had told us at the start. Once the plan was complete, all permits obtained and the contractor chosen (with their respectful support and helpful guidance as requested) the work was set to begin. Due to a family house that became available at the same time, we decided to forego the construction and instead moved to our family home albeit with many mixed emotions. This decision had absolutely nothing to do with Lisa and Ron's design. The house as they designed it would have been gorgeous, comfortable, green and much more sustainable than we had even hoped for. But in the long run we made this decision for sentimental and financial reasons as we had inherited the house that we finally moved into. After all of the work, attention and time that Ron and Lisa had focused on this project, I was concerned that they would be upset that we did not carry out the completion. Instead, I was met with the same love, understanding, respect and caring that was present throughout the many months that we had worked together on the project. Lisa and Ron Elkins are two of the kindest, creative and most gifted architects one could possibly want for any project under their care. I feel that I learned a tremendous amount about the entire process of architectural design and construction and I gained a confidence that I have taken into many smaller additional new projects in my life. thanks to them. My husband and I both cannot recommend them highly enough. Written by Arlene Brennan
