This was a rather long endeavor that began as a claim on my home warranty, and ultimately was denied as the problem was caused by the Aprilaire system - something not covered by the warranty. So after the original HVAC company contracted for this wouldn't follow up with me (he wanted to replace large amounts of duct, and seemed uninterested after the claim was denied), I began calling other companies. Another well rated local company came out, spent a few moments, and said nothing was wrong. When I told Mattex this, they asked if they could give a second opinion. Within seconds he showed me where it had completely rusted through and could poke his finger straight though. We scheduled an appointment to fix it later in the week, the work looks great - very happy with Mattex. Glad I followed the recommendations of others on here!

They did a very thorough cleaning job, showed me the problems and pricing, and let me make the call. This is the second time I've used Mattex, and am very pleased. You might pay a little more compared to some places, but the expertise and professionalism I've seen from them is well worth it.

A service person came out the same day to do an inspection after I called them. He was pretty reasonable and gave great advice. When I asked them over the phone whether or not they would be able to provide the services I asked for, they said yes. I scheduled for an appointment, and when the service person came he said he would not be able to provide such a service. This was the only thing that I did not like. It actually seemed like they were honest about the services that they would be able to provide. I appreciated the fact that the service person said no, but I wish the company had told me this before. Eventually the work was not done.

They had very good communication. They kept me informed while ordering parts and how long it would take for them to arrive. They were here when they said they would be and they fixed the issue. The job overall went very well. I did not shop around a lot for estimates but I thought the price was fair. They arrived when they said they would.

The technician was great. The customer service in the office was, however, inconsistent. In the end everything worked out fine. We just had to make few additional phone calls to the customer service.

I had a plumber from Mattex come out to address several problems with my new house. He did a good job explaining the problems to me, showed me what was wrong, and some of them turned out to be quite simple to fix.

I have a contract and they come out twice a year. I get ten percent off if I do require any parts. I’ve used them for two years. When they originally came out there was a lethal level of CO in the furnace and he couldn't figure out why. He called his boss and then his boss came out. It was 6 pm and they didn't charge any extra. They found the problem and took care of it. They spent a very long time here and they didn't charge a penny extra. They put booties on their shoes in my house and I really appreciated it. I am already set up for my spring appointment.

Matt came to do the estimate and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the work needed. He did a good job of explaining to me why so much ductwork would have to be replaced. He was exceptionally pleasant and easy to deal with, and his professionalism (and positive reviews on Angie's List) gave me confidence that the work would be done properly. The workers arrived promptly, and again, their pleasantness and politeness were outstanding throughout. They made a point of keeping things as neat as possible, and they did a great job of cleanup. The plumber even gave me a free consult about a leaking toilet! Because of the complications with the ducts, the work ran over into the next day, which was a Saturday. Alex, the foreman, stayed late Friday to hook up the water heater so I would have hot water in the morning, and he and Matt put in many extra hours on Saturday without complaint -- even changing some more faulty ducts than anticipated. Before they left they made sure I understood the workings of my new thermostat. I can't say enough nice things about them.

We got 2 quotes for our AC work, and split it across 2 providers. For this part of the work, Mattex was by far the low cost provider so we went with them. The impact in that room for the hot summer was amazing! We did have an initial issue with the AC unit dripping water inside, but they came back and fixed it very promptly.

I called Mattex after a/c went out in morning (one of the hottest days of the year so far). They gave me a time the same day that a service person would be at my house. He came on time, diagnosed the problem quickly; went to get a part and returned within 30 minutes. Replaced the part and fixed the a/c. Friendly and efficient service!

Used them to get an estimate for a new air conditioner/furnance. Professional, but didnt give any straight answers. He had to go back to the office to run the numbers before he could give any prices. Not a good way to get our business. When we did get our estimates later in the day, they were about 1000 over the price we ended up paying from a different company (rhymes with days)...

I was having a problem with my Central Air Conditioner. Something was causing the circuit breaker to keep tripping, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was (although I'm not an HVAC professional. I had to get it fixed though, I have two small children and it was a constant 85-90 in my house, with fans blowing. I called them on Thursday morning, spoke with a very pleasant receptionist, and made an appointment for 3:30 that afternoon. Joe, the service expert called me before he arrived to verify my address, and showed up promptly at 3:30 and started diagnosing my problem. After about 30-40 minutes he told me there were some problems with my starting mechanisms that were causing it to trip, and that there had been very shoddy work done on it before. After looking in his truck, he didn't have the parts, but told me he would be back the next day with them at the same time. After he arrived the following day, he had my AC up and running within 45 minutes! He also checked the furnace and the blower to make sure my whole HVAC system was running at full efficiency. To make a long story short, we now have cool air in our house. He gave me a detailed description of the problem, and gave me an estimate with and without a service plan. We decided to get the service plan, because I decided you cant put a price on preventative maintenance. Thank you Joe, and Mattex! You saved what was left of my summer!

An A++++++ company!!!! I live out in the country and have three dogs, one elderly. I am currently in the process of getting a divorce. I got the house and it's problems. I came home from work last week and my air was not working. I called two companies that others had recommended the next day. One which is on Angies List. One company could not come right out. The other one that was on Angies List did not even return my calls. I still haven't heard from that company. I got on Angies List and saw that Mattex had great ratings and reviews. I called during my morning lunch break. The woman who answered was very nice. I explained my situation, including that I had three dog and she sent Alex out to my house early that afternoon. It was very hot outside. Alex was awesome!!! I had left maintenance of the air conditioning/furnace up to the soon to be ex. I was worried to death because I suspected that the upkeep necessary for the central air/furnace probably was not done. I remember explaining this to Alex as soon as he got out of his van. He quickly put me at ease. After looking at my furnace, Alex explained to me what my options were, replacing the blower motor or a new furnace. He did not try to push me into the most expensive option, which was replacing the furnace. I asked him how much it was going to cost to replace the furnace. Alex called someone right in front of me and got an estimate. The estimate was much lower than what I had been anticipating. I told Alex I wanted to go with the furnace. Alex told me that he wanted to check out the rest of the furnace first so that I could make an informed decision, which he did. In the end I still opted for the new furnace. The furnace was ordered quickly. A few days later Alex returned with the new furnace. (It was a holiday weekend) He installed the new furnace and took away the old furnace. Alex made some recommendations for improving my system if I wanted to at a later time, and advised me of a problem with the furnace pipe, a repair that can wait for a bit since I do not need heat right now. I will definately call ONLY Mattex when I take Alex up on his suggestions and needed repair! If you are a single woman and do not want to be taken advantage of, go with Mattex. They will present you with all of your options and not try to push the most expensive option onto you. Very, very trustworthy!!! I will deal with no one else but Mattex in the future!

The service person was exactly on time. He walked me through a lot of what he was doing. He showed me dampers that I didn't know I had, so I can better use my heating and cooling system. He also pointed out issues with my AC unit that I will rectify. I was extremely pleased with the service, and the booties he put on each time he entered my house. I'm not sure that I want the service agreement. But will certainly call them again. Update 15 Apr 2011. I would still use this service, but will not sign a service agreement with them again. I get hounded with phone calls and email from them. I also just received an invoice for a renewal that I did not request. If you use Mattex, think twice about signing a service agreement.

Our heat had gone out about a week and a half prior to us contacting Mattex. Another company had come to look at it and basically told us the system needed to be replaced. We called Mattex to get a quote on a new heater/AC unit and one of the owners, Mike, came to do the consult. When he found out that we would really prefer to fix the existing system, he inspected it and told us that it would not be a problem and would cost around $500. He took our info back to his office, located the part he would need and then we scheduled the repair. We did have to call a couple of times to see if Mike had found the part and had to request that the official quote be brought at the time of service, but these two things were not a big deal and did not affect the quality of the job or our satisfaction. On the day of the repair, the repairman, Alex, arrived at our home on time and prepared to work. We showed him the unit and he began working right away. A few times he realized he didn't have the proper parts, so he had to go back to the Mattex location to get them, but he was always honest about it and wasn't disruptive. The work was completed in about 4 hours (which was the amount of time estimated by Mike on his first visit). Alex even fixed some wiring that the earlier company had messed up, even though I forgot to mention the problem until the last minute. Overall we were extremely happy that we decided to go with Mattex for this repair. They were honest, knowledgeable, and friendly, and it was a pleasure to do business with them.

They came to the house about 30 minutes after a 7:30am call to them. The first service call diagnosed problem for need to replace part which had to be ordered. The service technician got the motor running well enough to keep it going so that we were never without heat after his visit. Second call replaced the motor & all seems well. Thank you.

The person who evaluated our plumbing/drainage issues listened to our concerns and provided input. He was the same one who eventually installed the back up sump pump in our basement. Despite the fact that he explained what he was going to do to my husband at the first visit, he still reviewed his work with me on the day of installation. He made sure we had our questions answered and was courteous and professional throughout.

This story begins with a small crisis. We had radiant floor heat. After getting several bids, we contracted with Mattex to get a new boiler put in for the floor heat. During the installation, however, Mattex discovered that the pipes in the floor had leaks. As they were in a slab, they could not be repaired or replaced. We had no other choice than to go with forced air heat. This would thus be a major job, as the duct work in our house was limited (it had been installed for AC after the home's construction -- the house was built in late 1940s). Therefore, we not only needed a forced-air heat unit installed, but new and reworked duct work in the (basement-less and attic-less) house. Moreover, we decided that since our AC unit was relatively old and inefficient, we'd get a "package" unit--heat, heat pump (thus multi-stage, high-efficiency heat) and AC. In short, we got a completely new HVAC system in our house, including almost all new duct work. Major job. We had 4 estimates on this job, and Mattex's bid was the second lowest--just a few hundred dollars more than the lowest. Since we had been very pleased with the work they had begun on our boiler (but ceased, after discovering the pipe leaks in the slab), and since their bid was very competitive, we went with Mattex. I should also say that 2 of the 4 companies that gave us bids made it very clear through their bids that they wanted nothing to do with this job. It was going to be a pain. Only Mattex and one other offered reasonable bids. They took 7 business days to do the job--installing the new "package unit," running a new gas line, installing new ducts, doing new wiring in the house, re-locating the thermostat, and testing. They had scheduled 5 days for the job--but it proved to be much more challenging than they had planned. In particular, it was very difficult to snake the new ducts through our ceilings, which had only about 10 inches of clearance in many places and had a bunch of nails protruding downward from the roof through the roof sheathing. In the end, Mattex lost money on our job. It was evident that this was going to be the case a few days into the job. But this in now way kept them from top-notch, persistent work. Alex, the foreman, was very polite throughout. Matt, a co-owner of Mattex, was on site about half the time working with the 2-3 man crew. Everyone, without exception, was polite. I felt I could trust them in my home, with or without me or my wife and children being there. The job done, the system is far superior in terms of comfort than our old one--and far more efficient (we qualified for the big federal tax credit for high-efficiency systems). The house is "balanced" regarding comfort level/ temperature--that is, the duct work was designed in such a way that the entire house feels almost exactly the same (as opposed to one room feeling warmer than the next). Mattex, from our experience, is a high-quality, reliable, trustworthy, and capable company. We've since recommend them to three other friends (two small jobs, one big job), and in every case our friends have been very pleased. If for some reason a customer was not pleased, I am very confident that Mattex would do what they needed to do to make it right--they are just that kind of company.

I was able to get an appointment for four business days after I called. I scheduled the appointment for 8:00 AM. The technician was late, but his office called to let me know prior to 8:00 AM that he was running late and I had no problem with this. He was extremely thorough and helpful throughout the process.
